Appetizers: Miso soup and crab ragoons were bland. The miso soup lacked enough miso to have flavor; it tasted like water. The crab filling in the ragoons was creamy and light but the shell was tasteless. We ordered the everything hibachi (chicken, beef, shrimp). The chicken was dry (overcooked) and the shrimp was rubbery. The flavor was good though my friend was very fond of the white sauce (rightly so). Lastly, we ordered the Spicy Tuna Roll. Convenient, quick and tasty. This place I hear is a Clemson stable, and it's easy to see the set up is great for the college area. You can either order a meal from take out, or if you have the time, can snag a booth or table in their dining area. It has a simple menu, with just the basics of a Japanese place. Main entrees is any Hibachi protein, with sweet carrots and friend rice. As a note- no sushi. I got the Shrimp hibachi for $9 and it was a solid meal for the place. I think the portions are a good size; if you're really hungry you can eat the whole thing, or if you're a slow diner like me, I have leftovers for a later dinner ready. read more

I have never written a poor review of a restaurant before. Today was my 2nd time at Osaka Express in Clemson, SC. Server is very nice and tryst hard as the only server. I ate about half my meal. It was ok, until I found hair in it! Called the server who took the plate to the kitchen. They offered to make another to go but I declined! Couldn't eat it now! I would first like to start off by saying that we ordered three meals, and all three had multiple hairs in them. The food overall was not good to begin with, which is saying something from three hungry college students who regularly eat dinning hall food. Even the yum yum sauce was subpar, and had a liquid consistency. The carrots tasted like baby food from a jar, and the rice was also mushy. The broccoli was ok. Believe me I counted them because once again portion was small, I even asked the waiter just to make sure. My friend paid a $1 more and a got a bowl of zucchini. Just discovered this place today. Fantastic spin in sushi and Japanese cuisine. The sushi burritos are big, busting with flavors and well priced. Considering this is a Japanese express restaurant I am surprised anyone would review this place and complain that the food was "nothing but Japanese". I can't say the service is amazing but I usually get take-out here anyways. The food is GREAT however and when I lived in Clemson I ate there once or twice a week. If you want sushi......this is not the place. If you want egg rolls and General Tso's Chicken....this is not the place. BUT if you want Hibachi....THIS IS THE PLACE! First you need to know that Hibachi is sauteed meat, (Chicken, Steak, Shrimp) vegetables, (mushrooms or broccoli, and glazed carrots) and fried or steamed rice. There are two versions of each dish: Hibachi and Teriyaki. It is a very simple menu and the food is prepared VERY quickly (about 5 minutes) but it is incredible. All this is served with a side of shrimp sauce (does not have shrimp in it...it's just the name) which is great for pouring over your rice. It's actually much healthier than most of the food you would get at a Chinese restaurant because it's not deep fried or slathered with sugary sauces. Osaka Express does a great job for what it is. The food is the take-out version of what you get at a Japanese steakhouse where they cook it in front of you for 3 times the price. Needless to say, I go there 2 to 3 times a week and the food has always been fantastic. If you want sushi and egg rolls...go somewhere else. If you want GREAT inexpensive hibachi you will be thrilled. read more
