This was the first or second time I've ordered carryout from here. I paid extra for the filet, but tasted like lower quality overcooked steak. Oh no. They ruined a perfectly good filet by cooking it well done :(. We've eaten here several times and don't recall them ever cooking the filet well done. I don't mind paying extra for a better cut of meat, pls just don't cook it well done. You know the saying, if you want your meat well done order chicken. Love this place! Tim the manager takes good care of everybody and makes sure the clients are well taken care of. The Ramen is always on point hot & fresh! It has never disappointed! The food arrived within 5 to 7 minutes of order even when the place is crowded! This has become a family favorite for many people in this area. I order from here regularly using Grubhub. Tonight I ordered the usual, hibachi chicken and shrimp, but added the 5 piece scallop side at $10.95. I was really surprised to find that I received 3 rather small-ish scallops, each cut in half. So I guess I got 6 pieces in all, but $11.00 for three cut up scallops is a bit ridiculous. All the staff was very nice and attentive; the food was a little disappointing, frankly. We got two different Ramens; the soft boiled egg was totally overcooked in both (straight up hard boiled)... both bowls weren't hot, either - slightly more than luke warm. Most disappointing was that they were both just totally bland. I've never added so much soy sauce to anything in my life. If the dishes had been $8 each and reviews had been 2 and 3 stars, it would have been fine; as it was, I was pretty disappointed and won't go back. read more

Best Japanese restaurant around! This is one of my favorite places to get delivery, though I still haven't visited in person. I've found may other Asian food restaurants in the area to be cookie-cutter and low quality, so Sawa is a refreshing and authentic needle in a haystack. My favorite of their offerings include their bento boxes and ramen! I really wish they used other vegetables besides zucchini (like the broccoli and corn in their ramen) for their bento boxes, but the rest of it is truly fantastic. I adore their tofu (which is silken mapo style for the bento boxes and a firmer, sweet tofu in their ramen). Their rice is always perfectly cooked and seasoned, which is even better with some yum yum sauce! Portion sizes are appropriate for what you pay for, too. Looking forward to ordering again (and stopping in sometime soon)! read more

First, Ashton the server was amazing and juggling the entire waiting area. Words can't describe how hard she was working trying to wait tables, work the register, and greet the people while they come inside the establishment. Second, this business has an entire area that's not being used and they could at least allow the takeout orders to pickup their food on that side. It was very uncomfortable having customers come in standing over you waiting for food. Third, the cook must've been new because the food was not prepared like it's described by others on the YELP review. It appears the owner came in trying to alleviate the situation, but it may have been too late. Lastly, I will definitely return but changes need to happen going forward. read more

This place is great both in house and for delivery. We got the spicy miso and steak ramen. Both were beautifully and perfectly packaged for delivery and delicious. I don't find the spicy miso to be intensely spicy but you can customize if you prefer more spice. If the restaurant sees this, please post a picture of the salmon Ramen. i've wanted to try Sawa for a pretty long time now; their one of the only other restaurants in the Greater LYH area that boasts of ramen, so i had to go try some of their food. ironically, we ended up ordering a smorgasbord of appetizers instead and put on our own little make-shift dim sum, which I left extremely stuffed from. All in all, we tried the shu mai, the takoyaki, the gyoza, the cheese wontons, and the pork and peking duck bao buns. i have to say, we really enjoyed them all--the shu mai came well apportioned with a nice seafood taste that wasnt too fishy; the gyoza was cooked very well and had that hearty flavor that we're all craving when we order dumplings; the wontons were creamy and sweet with a nice crunch and a sweetly sour sauce for dipping; the takoyaki were crunchy and fillingly-well made; and the buns were both decently portioned and had good flavor in terms of sauce and meaty flavor. I also got the onion soup, and it's the only thing i wouldn't get again mostly because it tasted more like the mushrooms in the soup than onions. All in all i'll definitely be back to update once i get a chance to try the ramen, but you can guarantee that i'll be ordering at least one of these well-performing apps while i wait! read more

This little restaurant was cute and quiet! The food was great we got the veggie dumplings, cheese wontons, firecracker roll, avocado roll, veggie lo mein, shrimp lo mein, and the fried tofu. It came out quickly and hot, the cheese wontons were sweet and savory. Main complaint was that the fried tofu was made with silky(soft) tofu instead of firm. In my experience silky tofu is used for desert not savory. The tea was great I got the double berry tea with strawberry boba; it was the perfect balance of sweet and refreshing. The service was okay the two girl working the counter seemed nice but they took a while each time to check on us, not sure if it was because we were in the other room alone but not the worst service. For the Lynchburg area, this is a great addition. We have yet to have a place that provides adequate Ramen, and I've always thought they would do well in our area. However, I may just be spoiled from having great ramen up and down the east coast, but this ramen wasn't on my list of favorites. I had the spicy miso, and while it did have a heat factor, the flavor just wasn't there for me. Additionally the spicy pork was not all that flavorful, which tends to never be an issue even if the broth doesn't match up. Also, while I understand that different shops have different styles, having hard boiled eggs as their primary egg instead of soft boiled (and not having variant recipes on the menu) was a bit saddening. Glad this place exists, and I hope that they progress in their process as they stay open. read more

The food: The tempura shrimp and the gyoza tasted like something I would buy out of the grocery store in the frozen section. Just happened to be on this side of town and was looking for places to eat and saw that this restaurant had popped up! Finally a Japanese ramen place in Lynchburg! I got the Tonkatsu Ramen and Chicken Fried Rice. The ramen broth was a little salty to my taste but they fixed that quickly for me when I informed them. The chicken fried rice was simple but was tasty, which we liked. Got a small sampler of coconut milk tea bubble tea. I love bubble tea but never tried that flavor before and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I'm looking forward to trying other bbteas on their drink menu. One thing I would like to see more though, and that's not specific to this place per se, are Japanese dishes other than hibachi or yakisoba. Theres a lot of other places that do these things already and there are so many other Japanese dishes that Lynchburg lacks so much of.
