Best sushi we've had outside NYC and the service was super friendly. We went for a very early dinner at 4:30. We saw a lot of takeout business the 90 minutes we were there, but we thoroughly enjoyed the quaint dining room. Nice lighting (read not too bright), soft music and cozy room. We live 45 minutes away and we'll probably be back 3-4 times a month. We have been searching high and low for good sushi in our area and this place is WONDERFUL. We had the fatty tuna, salmon, mackerel, a couple specialty rolls and a tuna hand roll. Fish was unbelievably fresh and the rice was PERFECTION. Can't wait to go back! read more

Fairly unimpressive. At times the fish is fresh, but hard to enjoy considering the price point for how much you get. They have no updated menus online or in their restaurant so it's always more than you think it's going to be. Even a combo lunch for one, with tip will be about $20-25 which is steep considering the rolls are 6 pieces, not 8 and they are very small. I think the food here is good, but it's really overpriced considering they have no atmosphere and operate as a take out only place for lunch. The one in rhinebeck is really much better. Osaka never disappoints! This is my favorite sushi restaurant in the area...and it's right in the middle of little Tivoli! The sushi is always fresh and the hot dishes I've tried are all delicious. I love the atmosphere here too. It's small and quiet, and one my wife and my favorite spots to come for a date. Having dined at so many sushi restaurants all over the country and Canada I would place this restaurants offerings at a solid Middle Of The Road. Absolutely Nothing VERY wrong here or anything a bit "off". Just solid Sushi. One thing I noticed immediately were the under sized pieces of fish in both the sushi and sashimi. I wasn't looking to be critical....but it was pretty obvious to me as soon as I looked at the plate. The pricing was fair considering what I got and I had no complaint there. Another thing that caught my attention was that the "replacement" yellowtail (because they were out of the scallops I wanted) were not as fresh as it could have been and was quite a bit chewier than I'm accustom to. This restaurant will scratch your itch for Sushi........Disappointingly, it left me wanting just a bit more, for the over all experience. read more

Osaka- I have been dining here prior to the launch of Yelp! Osaka is one restaurant I have a soft spot for. The building is situated as a house structure. I always experiment a different sushi at this place and I am never disappointed. The tempura here is less oily than other Japanese places I have visited and in addition there is a better variety of root vegetables included. The is a Taro (cocoyam) placed in the mix of sweet potato, onions, broccoli and other fun root and non vegetables. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Tivoli Hudson Valley area. Osaka is probably my favorite sushi place in the northeast. I'm a local and it has elevated my sushi standards throughout my travels! The fish is consistently fresh and there are many unique rolls. The tekkaba and yama kuchi rolls are my favorite! I think the Tivoli location is a bit better but I don't turn down sushi from the Rhinebeck location either. We visited Rhinebeck recently for the Country Living Fair. We had a craving for sushi and the Osaka Japanese Restaurant had consistently high reviews so we gave it a shot. The restaurant is located in a tiny brown house in the middle of town. The interior is small, clean, nicely decorated, and the sushi chef is front and center. We placed our order and watched the chef make our rolls, sashimi, and sushi. We ordered the tempura vegetables for an appetizer and it was fantastic. The server gave us hot towels for our hands -- a delightful Japanese custom that is rare here. Then the sushi arrived . . . the presentation was glorious. We have been to many sushi restaurants, even in Japan, and the presentation at Osaka Japanese Restaurant is top notch. The tempura sushi was out of this world -- crisp, fresh, delicious. The rolls were superb -- the flavors were layered so delicately that each item could be savored and enjoyed. At the end of our meal the server brought us a segmented orange to enjoy, and all was right in the world. I heartily recommend this lovely gem of a sushi restaurant. Delicious, delicate sushi and melt in your mouth rice noodles. I absolutely love Osaka. Such kind waitresses as well. As a vegetarian I found really solid options - I particularly recommend the tofu starter which has a nice broth and the sweet potato and tempura roll. Honestly though, you can't go wrong at this spot. My only suggestion would be to make a Japanese breakfast/brunch option with fried egg so I can come here for all my meals! read more

Having recently moved to Tivoli from Brooklyn, we were eager to check out our new local sushi joint. We were not disappointed. Osaka sushi is definitely on a par with many sushi restaurants we have been to in Brooklyn and Manhattan. I love Osaka and have for many years. When I was going to college in the area, I would often go to Osaka for their incredibly reasonably priced lunch combos. The miso soup is the best I've ever tasted. All the sushi is made expertly and is very fresh. I've never tried the other entrees because the sushi is so good. The pan fried gyoza was crispy and very flavorful. It's a tiny space, just a few tables, so a weekday lunch was always the best time to go for me. They will also do catering kind of... bring a platter in, they will fill it up with a lovely sushi presentation. A different appetizer that will blow your guests away. read more

This place has some great sushi. They are a tiny restaurant, so on weekends the wait for a table is wrong. I'm not sure if they deliver, but you can always take out and pick up the order yourself. The sushi is fresh and tastes great. They have some great specials, where you can order 3-4 rolls for an entree, and they are plentiful! You an get full easily. They have some great entrees too, fried fish, chicken teriyaki, tempura, udon, etc. But I always order their sushi, and haven't found another place that makes such good sushi since. They have good desserts too, their green tea ice cream is always fresh. They also have great drinks. Nice date spot too. read more
