Love this place. Went to dinner here with a good friend who lives in shallotte that raved about it. Service is friendly and they do a good habachi show. I just had an appetizer cause I wasnt that hungry but tried some of her habachi was delicious. They have good prices and steak and shrimp and chicken and other varieties. I ordered a hibachi filet to go last night. When I ordered I asked for medium rare as you would do with a filet instead what I got was well done. There wasn't a lot of flavor to what I did get. I'm paying the same price as I would if I was there for the whole hibachi experience you would think they would take some care to make sure my order was correct highly disappointed. read more

We had a reservation for 16 and would be taking up 2 grills. Adults at one grill and teenagers at the other. Unfortunately 1 family of 4 could not make it to dinner. So they crammed 12 of us around 1 grill. The young lady stated that reservations would not permit us to take up both grills as originally booked. I am sitting in front of the 2nd grill and no one else is seated at the grill. Sat groups at other grills but not the one I was seat at. We were lied to by the staff and made the entire meal not enjoyable. We had to speak very loudly so we could hear one another and made the other patrons not happy either. Pictures are from my seat to the rest of the group. The staff accommodated the request of another party to move to a larger area so they could enjoy their meal. At the end of the meal, we were quickly given boxes and told that the hostess would take our payment so that we could clear out quicker since they were getting busy. Ways to improve: 1. Don't lie to customers. 2. Make sure customers are comfortable and have an enjoyable experience. 3. Taking care of customers will lead to better gratuity above and beyond the % for a large group. 4. A surprising teppanyaki restaurant in Shallotte, NC. A very red, Asian decorated place with a jolly atmosphere. The cooking is typical for teppanyaki. Pleasant, talkative chefs put on an entertaining show. I miss the knife juggling that used to be a feature. The food was fresh, delicious, and served quickly. Service was friendly and helpful. The service was very good. Very friendly. I really wanted Tempura but was not happy with it. Tempura is a very night batter and this felt like frozen breaded shrimp posing as Tempura. I did not want all the breading. It changes the taste. The vegetables were overly greasy but also very raw. A good tempura vegetable is a little softer. The sushi was good. The cooking surface is smaller than other places I have been, and therefore the table in front of us got a little messy while he was cooking. He did some cute tricks and was entertaining! Food was good, although my steak was ordered med-rare and it was not. No red at all and pieces were tough requiring me to ask for a knife to cut them smaller. I would not order steak there again. Three people in my family had their steak overdone. By the time you think you should have it on your plate it is already over cooked. Also had some Alaska roll sushi which was good. I probably will return but will stick to shrimp which were really delicious and maybe the scallops, although one only gets four pieces. read more

Their waitress was kind. I wanted to order a 6 piece sashimi appetizer for 9.95$. My only request was that i wanted all sake since I don't like other types of sashimi. The waitress asked her higher up, who seemed as cold as ice, and said they would charge $2.00 extra for requesting the same sashimi. Who pays $11.95 for 6 pieces of sake at a strip mall joint? If you just order the sake sashimi, it's $4.95 for 2 pieces. Ughhhh... whatever. The waitress tried to tell her manager that the chef sometimes cuts three pieces not two to try and get me three pieces for $4.95, but her manager said that's only if she has leftover pieces. You guys gotta stay consistent. I thanked the waitress for trying but now I've kinda lost my appetite. I settled on the dragon roll with tempura shrimp, eel, avocado , my three favorites in a roll. Plenty of tempura shrimp but a tiny eel and even tinier piece of avocado. Stingy, much? The waitress said it was big and filling. Ummmmm... not really. I'm still hungry. Hubs got the sushi platter with various sushi and sashimi. It was just not right. It had the wrong texture. Even with soy sauce, it couldn't mask the strange flavor. Surprisingly, there is a tabletop hibachi cooktop experience in this small restaurant. I took some family members out to lunch (lunch is half the price $10.50 for shrimp hibachi meal). They were all impressed with the food, especially the price. I would go there again for sure. read more

I can't say I don't recommend this place because we didn't actually eat here, but first impressions are everything. We came in hopeful to have a nice hibachi dinner, they were not real busy and the girl up front asked us if we wanted grill or table, we said grill would be great, and she said ok it will be 5 minutes, 5 minutes went by and she came back again and asked us do we want grill or table, so that was it for us! The table across from us came in after us but were sat at the same time at the grill across from us & received their drinks, soups and salads in record time. (Before we even ordered drinks). Then they tried to cram us in where we couldn't even move to accommodate 4 more people, and once the additional 4 people were sat everything after that felt VERY rushed. Interaction with the chef was very minimal. There was one server who appeared to be carrying the weight and kept our drinks filled. They ran out of Coors Light. Food was pretty good, portion sizes were consistent with the time we visited last year. Filets were delicious. Thinking we just came in at a bad time and they were a little overwhelmed. Initially we were a little nervous trying this place because there aren't a lot of reviews and none very recent. Because it's the only Japanese steakhouse really close to Ocean Isle Beach we decided to give it a try. It was my family of six and my son who is about 17 months old. We called earlier in the day and made a reservation. They do have grill spots and table spots. So if you make a reservation be sure to say which one. We got set at our reservation time and though the waitress was not overly friendly she was nice and we never had to worry about refills or needing anything. There was a mixup on one of our dinner entrées but it really wasn't a big deal. We were supposed to get chicken and scallops but they had chicken and shrimp instead. My husband said it didn't matter to him so he just kept the shrimp. We didn't have to wait long at all for the soups or the salads. The chef came out in a timely manner and did a good job on the performance. It wasn't anything over the top but there was a big fire in the beginning, The egg trick, and the smoking volcano. All of the food was very good. Overall I would come back. I gave the rating four instead of five because I felt that the chef and the waitress could have done a little bit more to make the experience super awesome, but there was nothing wrong about any of the interactions. We are so happy to find this place so that we don't have to travel 40+ minutes to South Carolina if we want to eat Japanese steakhouse style food. read more

As a local of 8 years I must say this is my FAVORITE Japanese restaurant within a 40 mile radius. They seem to have been through some rough patches after it was sold about a year ago, but They finally seem to have it together. We should have turned around and left the minute we saw that the sushi chef was a teenage white kid, but my friends and I were there to celebrate a birthday, and the birthday girl wanted sushi, so we stuck it out. All 5 of us deeply regret that decision. This was easily one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Here are the highlights: -The place was totally empty when we arrived, and somehow it still took the manager almost 20 minutes to seat us. -I asked the waitress for some edamame and she looked at me as if she had never heard the word before. -It took just a few minutes shy of TWO hours to get our sushi. The one guy in our party who didn't order sushi got his meal within a half hour. He said it didn't taste bad, but he was sick a half hour later. -The waitress kept telling us the food was almost ready, and then more time would pass with us getting hungrier and more pissed. Other people arrived, ordered, ate, and left before we ever saw a salad or soup. -The sushi itself, when it finally arrived, was poorly constructed, but didn't taste terrible. That's the nicest thing I can say about it. -The manager repeatedly apologized to us, but only gave us a 10% discount. How this place stays open I have no idea. The only rationale I can think of is that it is a sponsored scientific study in testing the patience of customers. We ordered four rolls and it came out to $23.95 which wouldn't be bad if they were decent sized rolls. However, these rolls are piddly widdly. The sushi is mediocre at best, you can save it with Wasabi and soy sauce. The shrimp tempura roll is so thickly covered in breading it leaves you wondering, "where's the shrimp?" The microscopic tuna roll was the best of the order, but it leaves you wanting a Big Mac to feel anything close to full. Would not eat here again for the following reasons: - Service was friendly but slow. - The young son of one of the employees spent his time either running throughout the restaurant (including the restroom area) or positioned behind the sushi bar touching the work area. - The restroom floor was very slippery and the toilet would not flush. - The fish was rubbery and discolored indicating it was not fresh. We all felt varying degrees of gastric distress after our meal. - I found a long strand of hair wrapped in one of my sushi rolls. I can only guess that the hair came from the sushi chef who had not covered or tied back his long blonde hair while preparing the food.
