I tried the spicy smoked sausage and received a roughly 4" piece of sausage on a hotdog bun wrapped in foil along with a small serving of baked beans. The sausage didn't look or taste like it had been smoked. In fact, I would not be surprised to find it came from the food distributor and was just heated up. It was very underwhelming. The beans were a bit better but nothing special. It's all counter service at the Shallotte Smoke House but of course they hit you up for a tip, even though you bus your table for them. The restaurant was bright and clean with all sorts of posters about different varieties of 'Q and sauces in the country. My husband and I try to find good BBQ whenever we travel. Today we had lunch at The Smoke House Shallotte. OMG! The brisket was delish and perfectly prepared. The pulled pork was also very good. Lunch on Tuesday. Tried the 3 meat plate - pork, brisket and pork burnt ends plus two sides - fries and hush puppies. Meats were all very good. Moist Brisket the best. More than plenty for two. Fries could be much better, I would change product myself. About 6 puppies. Several different causes - I liked Sweet. With a Coke this was $33. Paper towels would be nicer than their napkins used. The three meat plate is a lot of food. It is delicious. You order at the counter for either take out or dine in. Sauces/pickles are separate at their own station. The ribs were really good. I got the spicy sausage and it was a lot. I had a ton leftover. It was right kind of spicy. The pulled pork was also tender and good. I loved the okra and slaw. I would definitely return. read more

Amazing customer service! The lady working the front counter was so friendly and helpful. The brisket was some of the best I've ever had. Tender and amazing flavor. Went here last night as wanted to try it, but other times driving by it was never busy. Last few times driving by noticed it was busy so we went in. Food was excellent, service could use some improvement. The cashier upfront should know the menu and what season g is in the fries....we saw they had seasoned fries, asked the cashier what seasoning is on it as there is one particular we are allergic to, he did know and had to ask the lady cooking. We got those fries, they were delicious but a bit of a kick to them. Every employee here should know what ingredients are on items and what is on the menu read more

Staff was kind, but food did not rise above average. It's a quick service place so we did have our door quickly spice smoke sausage had a nice little kick but other wise nothing special. We were disappointed the meats, brisket and pulled pork, were too spicy and hot. Must be the rub they are using there. We have eaten before at the other locations in Southport and Leland and it was much better, not hot at all. Even our daughters chicken fingers were spicy. Will not return to this location. read more

A good concept at a reasonable price with good service. However, the food is not good. The smoke flavor permeates everything and everything tastes the same. I was unable to taste any difference between the green beans and the collards. They are not good and certainly not southern collard greens. The brisket does not taste anything like Texas barbecue (I lived in Texas for 13 years and had much better). The pulled pork is not close to eastern NC style and is the smoke taste is overpowering. I liked the macaroni and cheese. The chicken was very dry and too much smoke. The hush puppies were greasy and flavorless. I would not recommend. read more

Finally got a good BBQ Place near by. My wife and I ate there for the first time on July 13th and were very pleased. We both had brisket and used the "sweet" sauce and it was excellent. The meat was juicy and perfectly cooked. Reminded us of the brisket we used to get in Texas. My wife enjoyed the Mac & Cheese and I thought the baked beans were good as well.
