We came in on a weekday for lunch. We were greeted promptly and seated at a grill. Our server came and took our drink orders and brought us a sushi menu. When he returned with our drinks we gave him our sushi order and our lunch order. Your salad and miso soup were out in a flash followed by a beautifully plated order of 2 sushi rolls. I cannot begin to explain how impressed we were with the sushi we ordered (California roll and sweet potato rolls). They were absolutely perfect. Before we finished all the goodies our chef (Marlon) came out. Nobody ended up joining our table so we were able to speak the entire time with our chef. He was great! Even told me where I could get a knife like his. I'm a huge foodie and it was nice being able to talk ethnic foods with someone that knows food too. I highly recommend asking for him as a chef. We were seated promptly, BUT, (1) the waitress stood on one side of the hibachi grill and handed us our salad instead of walking around and placing it on the table, (2) the waitress also tried to serve us the soup from the other side of the table and told us to "be careful, it's hot." Amazing. A family member took it from her before I could explain to her that she should place the soup on the table next to the diner. (3) the cook left the rice on the grill too long such that it was hard. One little girl called it crunchy and he cracked a joke. (4) the chicken was cooked too long and (5) the steak was cooked too long. (6) The cook left fat on the chicken and on the the steak. (7) the cook did not scrape off the meat remnants from the grill. So, it just sat there and burned. I dont understand. We just ate and left (although we enjoyed being together, but not the food). I spat out the meat a couple of times in my napkin because it was too tough. I think it was deliberate or he just could not handle a full table. I should have asked for a discount. Osaka is a great sushi bar + Japanese steak house. The design is very Oriental(East Asia), it definitely has some elements from Osaka, Japan. I enjoyed everything I ordered. The white tuna sashimi is fresh and tastefully. (Look for it in the paper sushi menu I attached) Sushi chefs are nice and have great recommendations if you don't know what to choose from. Edamame was just right for me. The steak hibachi do have a generous portion. I highly recommended this place. read more

Very tasty! I had the hot pot/Korean bowl. Very good! Crunchy rice stuck to the bottom, yummmm! We also ordered the hibachi chicken, which is exactly like what you get at a teppanyaki, but we chose not to eat by the hibachi. Overall, very good and very good prices! read more

Oh where to begin? We never received our soup, our salads, our white rice, or drink refills. We all Purchased combination meals so soup and salad should have been included in our meals. We were there for a birthday and reminded them upon our arrival. Instead, our bills were brought without even asking us if we wanted any dessert. When we tried to ask about the missing soup and salad, no one had a response. When we asked about our birthday celebration, no one seemed to care because our meals were completed. We attempted to speak with the manager on staff who provided no remorse, no apologies and refused to even come to the table to speak with us. When finally attempting to leave this nightmare, they kept telling us our "credit card was being declined". After the third different credit card, these geniuses figured out it was their "point of sale system was down." We had the option to just wait it out until the system was back up and running or pay by cash. What a horrible experience. I cannot believe we wasted our time here. The food was good however It was my birthday and no one sung me happy birthday or even offered. We were never served our shrimp that is supposed to come with the meal and we told them all they said was aww and was not compensated at all. Went for a family night with my mom, sister, and grandmother spends over $500 only to have my dad hospitalized after getting him a carry out of ONLY steak fried rice to get 2 big shrimps that closed his throat and swelled tongue and lips that God he is alive. My brother received 2 big shrimp in his meal as well after both were specified to have NO SHRIMP because of allergy. My grandmother did not receive any rice with her plate of meats. Manager was so rude when we reached out to him went to talk in person to receive refund for one order and a remake for another, "one or the other, I am not giving you a remake and refund" even though they were on 2 separate bills cashed out 2 different ways. he ended up walking away "IM NOT DOING THIS!!" Love this restaurant. The soups are delicious and very flavorful, the house salad comes with a ginger dressing. It's by far the best ginger dressing I've had outside of my homemade sesame ginger dressing. I've had the vegetable hibachi, the vegetable tempura, the bento box, the sweet potato tempura sushi, the cucumber sushi, and the asparagus sushi, and they're all great. No complaints whatsoever. This place is always very clean, the staff is always very friendly. I would eat here every if my husband and kids didn't object. We've only done the hibachi grill once and it was good, but we typically opt for the dine in section to avoid waiting. My girls love the hibachi chicken for kids. Be advised, the portions here, adult and kids alike, are massive. I always end up over ordering and leaving with leftovers because I over indulge in soup and salad, and we all share the sushi. Great location with plenty of parking. Lots of room in this establishment with the high ceilings and the tavern-style atmosphere. They have traditional Teppanyaki grills (where the chef cooks food on a large table with several seated) and individual seating with a regular menu as well as a full bar. The menu selections were extensive and reasonably priced. I highly recommend the Bento, which includes salad, soup, a protein and two appetizers. The meal included eight spring rolls! Had I never been to the Sterling Heights location, I probably would be giving them a 4 or a 5 but the Sterling Heights location has set some pretty high standards for Osaka's. My friends and I sat on the hibachi side and all got different meals, yet we all got fried rice. The fried rice is almost the be part of the whole thing and it was basically undercooked. I felt like I was chewing raw rice. Not to mention, the portions seemed way smaller. Generally I would not have anything bad to say about Osaka's because you get so much food for your money. The restaurant is very large with a side dedicated to hibachi grills of moderate size and the other side with bar and seating for those who don't want hibachi. The sushi was well prepared and staff was attentive. The portions were average. The decor is nice for date night. We arrived around 6:30 and were seated immediately. Wonderful experience. I had a party of 11 and we were able to squeeze at one table. We were 20 minutes late for our reservation, but they were still able to sit us down within ten minutes. Servers are really nice, but not very attentive. They seem to have a lot of staff helping, but they don't really pay attention to what customers would need (refills, napkins, etc) until you flag them down. I only saw my server when he was taking our drink and food orders and when it was time to pay. Not a big deal if I was dining alone or with a smaller party, but if I have a party of 11 wanting more bar drinks it's a bit cumbersome. We waited a really long time for our food. Probably about 40 minutes until the chef came, I understand it takes time to prep the food, but there was only one uncooked table when we placed our order. We got a round of sake bombs and it was the perfect size, but it was $5 so appropriate. It was nice to see the managers and hostesses helping the servers. Our chef, Ken, was amazing. Not only did he put on a great show, he was so personalized with all of us. I really do appreciate the service he gave to my party. I would go back just to see him. Restaurant is pretty clean. I would just say the servers need to be more attentive, and if not the server helpers or other staff walking around could help. At the time they didn't seem short staffed. We sat at the regular dining and had no trouble being seated right away. The menu on this side has many options for Sushi or Hibachi. Most dinner entrees are served with miso soup and salad. We ordered the sashimi dinner and the chicken and steak hibachi which also comes with rice or fried rice, veggies, noodles, and shrimp. It was perfect between two people and everything was delicious. I was highly disappointed. This restaurant was not clean. There was rice, dust and who knows what else in the crevices of the grill. I discreetly alerted the management however he did not care. His response was "Oh, we clean the grill!". This was definitely more than a days worth of rice and gunk. When my beverage was served the rim of the cup was dirty and I had to send that back. The cook at the next station kept dropping things on the floor and would pick them up and keep using them. After seeing all of this I couldn't eat. Who knows what might go on in the kitchen area. Went here on a Wednesday night for my birthday and I'm surprised it wasn't busier! As a the-other-Clawson-hibachi-restaurant lover, I must say I prefer Osaka! The interior is really cool and the tables are smaller, which is nice because it's more intimate and you can get started on your meal faster. They also have at least one big table for parties. Our waiter was suuuper friendly... if all of my waitstaff was like that, I'd be out of money tipping so much! Our chef was super cool, engaged with us the whole time... cracking jokes... and he even made my age for me out of the fried rice haha (which is much tastier than previously mentioned Clawson hibachi restaurant). The food was wonderful with, of course, major portions - Yay leftovers! Overall, it was a great experience and it's right around the corner from our house. There are a lot of places like this on the Oakland Co area to choose from. With that said this one is closer to the top of the list but not the top for me. The food here is some of the best hibachi I've had but the show wasn't as good. The service was also THE BEST I've had but the service at these kinds of restaurants are usually pretty good. Only reason they aren't getting the full 5 star was just how loud of a restaurant it was. You can tell they tried to fit as many tables in there and forgo some of the ambiance.
