There's nothing specific about Osaka that makes it great. It's one of those places where the sum of the parts do not equal the whole. But it has easily become one of my favorite sushi places to visit in the area. It's a small place; the size of a chinese take out place. The decor is simple and clean; it won't amaze you but its nice enough to make the place feel like a restaurant. The prices are about average in my opinion, and the food is good. I've never been floored by anything here, but the food has always been fresh, tasty and well prepared. I enjoy their take on specialty roles. They don't have a large exotic selection, but there's enough regular and specialty roles to satisfy most tastes. It's always the same two men behind the counter when I've visited and they're both very friendly and courteous. And if you tend to order the same thing or have specific requests, they'll remember this and after a while you won't have to ask for it. If you're a fan of teriyaki sauce, I recommend this place as their sauce has a nice thick consistency and compliments the dishes its used on very well. If you're looking for a place with a wow factor, you might be disappointed here. But what you will find is a friendly environment with consistently fresh and tasty sushi. That's what makes this a quality local spot. I'd recommend it to anyone in the Lyndhurst area. read more

This place is great for the price! I ordered a tofu bento box for lunch with veggie rolls replacing the California roll, and it only 15 minutes for my order to be ready. Also, the total was $9 and change. This would be an OK price but the reason I'm impressed is because I got a salad, soup, 8 rolls, and sesame tofu with veg and rice for that price. I was only able to eat the salad, half the soup, and a taste of the rest before I was stuffed!. So for nine bucks I got lunch and leftovers for dinner - to me, that is awesome. Additionally, the people working there are very nice. TIP - park on a side street and walk because parking out front tends to be scarce. read more

Great Food! The place has a nice sushi bar area, nice background music, the atmosphere is quite nice and cozy. I ordered the Sunrise roll. It was tasty, the fish was fresh and well made. it only has crab tempura and avocado inside which made the roll a bit thin but its understandable. If you love sushi this is the place to go. The sushi is extremely fresh and delicious. My husband and I go there frequently and have yet to be disappointed with the food. The price points range start at about $6 for a simple roll. Their specialty rolls are amazing but start at $10 and above. Also, this place is a BYOB so stop and pick up some wine or beer to compliment your sushi. The only qualms I may have with this place is that they are limited in space so if you want to go out to dinner with a larger group it's really hard for them to accomodate you...although they do the best they can. Also, if you are there past 10pm, which is their closing time, they will give you not so subtle hints it's time to go home...LOL. read more

They've got parking behind the building, but I try to park on the main road. I like their Black Dragon and tried the special or Deluxe Sushi. It was prepared well, the best place to sit is at the bar so you can see your food being prepared. I'm not sure if the staff is actually from Osaka, but it's good to know that there's a good sushi place located near by. It's a little pricey. Downside is I wasn't given tea and the waitress forgot to get us drinks when we sat and edamame is usually free in most places. All in all, I'd probably visit again to see if the quality changes. read more

Osaka is my FAVORITE sushi place. I've tried numerous places all over north jersey & nothing compares to osaka. They have incredible lunch specials. All rolls are made to order and all fish is always SUPER fresh. I've never once eaten here & been displeased. I leave happy, full, and content every time I come. Workers are very friendly too and make a point to remember you if you go fairly often. They pretty much know my order, preferences and that I need loads of spicy mayo haha. I really wish I can rate this place five stars but I am a on going customer to J J Sushi in North Arlington. I am not saying the place is horrible but when I ordered my sushi I looked at my plate and felt jipped. The rolls are mostly filled with cucumber. Not the actual fish. So instead of having a spicy tuna roll I had a cucumber roll.. I had the lunch special and the prices were great for what I gotten. But I was disappointed on the whole presentation. And the waitress was very pushy. I came in not hi how are you... it was pick up, take-out or sit in. Then to pay she was hovering over me when I was getting the money to pay her. Unfortunately I don't think I will be coming back. I was looking forward to a new place to go to :-(. read more

I only give four stars here because of the little changes made since Mr.Kim no longer owns the place. He was what made it great, he was a God of all things fish and rice. Little changes include, slightly higher prices, no more free soup and salad as soon as you sit down while you're waiting for your order, and no more Mr. Kim peeking over at you trying to read whether or not you're full so he can sneak you a free hand roll (maybe it's because I was a LONG time patron, I'd been going to his restaurant since he just had the one up in Little Falls near the Willowbrook Mall, but he's always been a fantasticly nice dude). All that aside, his influence and creativity in rolls and food are still pretty much intact there. you have not had a good roll until you have had the Red Dragon Roll. If you're going there for the first time, make sure you pack an extra $10. It's worth it. The thing is, yeah, you're going to pay an extra buck or two, but Osaka is also about the freshest fish you're going to get in the area. Mr Kim used to tell me that he'd be down at the fish market in NYC twice a week to get the incoming catch. He'd also get some rare fish and good cuts that you don't normally see anywhere else, so you could just ask him what special fish he had and he'd pull out some nice saltwater eel, giant clam, fatty tuna or sharktopus (j/k) cuts that you'd normally have to pay an arm and a leg for, and on a rare occasion, he'd even just serve you up a small portion just to try it out! But then again, that's me living in the past. I doubt the guys there will do this now, I'm usually in and out with friends. But that's just it, the rolls are great and tasty, the rice is always fresh and warm and the fish is amazing. nuff said. read more

The prices and quality of the sushi is phenomenal... I eat sushi on the regular and for the prices they offer there is nothing else around like this. It is always super fresh and they are friendly. The decor of the restaurant isn't my favorite but the food makes up for it! We often order the salmon sashimi which is one of the best I've ever had. Better than Tao downtown in NYC!!!! Don't plan on walking in at 9:00pm even when their business hours say they close at 10:00pm they will tell you that they close at 9:30pm and tell you they can't serve you. I went in this evening while a man was at the sushi bar. Then a man came from the back after a minute of us already sitting down looking at the menus and said they were closing in a half hour.
