After ordering to-go weekly since the start of the pandemic, we are no longer patrons of Osaka. The service and quality of food over the past 4 or so months has taken a nose dive and it doesn't seem like the staff cares. The condescending attitude on the phone, to getting our take out order wrong, to not carrying at all about it being wrong, to finally, the quality of the fish. Some nights there is no flavor and drowned in sauce to make up for it. We literally order the same thing every time and I order it the same way. it's a gamble on what I get. Spending this much money for subpar meals is not something I'll continue to do. read more

Had a pretty unpleasant recent visit. Placed pick up order. Didn't get our whole order, called. Was offered credit for next time. Told them it was my hubs dinner so if they could make it, we can pick up. I asked for a complimentary item for having to spend another 40mins for our order. Girl on phone who takes orders said yes, and when hubs picked up order and didn't get any complimentary roll. I called and the girl who takes orders said NO se never said she would give us a complimentary roll and that they would just make my missing roll. I was like wtf... Bruhh. You straight up said you would give us one as it was YOUR ERROR & fault we had to WASTE TIME/ GAS to go pick up our dinner YOU FORGOT TO GIVE US!! Girl straight up gave me SAS.. & was like NO I DIDNT, I DIDNT SAY THAT, NO I DIDNT. I guess I had a Karen moment, cuz I was like.. LET ME TALK TO YOUR MANAGER!! Bruhh, the manager was so nice and said she was suppose to offer us a complimentary appetizer. Which she never did, anyways. Manager said we have credit for our next order so we can get a free roll. Waited 30 mins to get seated. Then waited over 90 mins to get our food. There was still one food item missing. I understand today was an extremely busy day but when I mentioned the missing food item, our waitress (Laura-girl with pink hair tips) came up with an excuse on why she forgot it. Her snappy remark was not ok. I understand she's frustrated but don't take it out on us??? We had to wait an extra 10 ish mins for the missing food item. I work in the food industry myself and I would never have treated my customers as poorly as she treated us! She looked & sounded like she hated her job. Food is amazing. Service sucks and needs work. They need to care about the customers not just the money. I felt so bad for the people waiting outside. Apparently, some were waiting over an hour & a half just for seating!! Great sushi! We came for a visit with friends and had a nice time. The atmosphere was inviting, prices were reasonable, the waiters and waitresses were friendly, and they didn't mind that we stayed longer to chat. I ordered the monster roll which was good, I just wish it were a little spicier. My wife ordered the teriyaki chicken roll and enjoyed it. Our friends ordered the New Orleans roll and something else and those were both delicious. The miso was ok, but overall, everything else was very good. We decided to give this place a shot over my two favorite sushi places in town, Sushi garden and Miki Sushi(not easy to do once you have found a fail-safe place to eat). I read through all the reviews and realized after my meal how each persons experience is so different and everyone's taste buds have different flavors that we love and dislike. Based on the reviews I read I ordered the jalapeño poppers to start.... Thank you to those of you that recommended the jalapeño poppers that you won't find anywhere in town and are so wonderful and taste surprisingly feisty with a little bit of sweetness. My girlfriend ordered us the Panda roll and the Rock N Roll as our main dish.... Panda Roll: My lovely lady added green onion and spicy sauce to the roll and it was amazing! Not to mention it was delivered to our table in a wooden boat with a mini Kung fu Panda guarding our roll Rock N Roll: awesome roll with amazing flavor and amazing taste. I will order this every time I come back. Service: excellent! No complaints and couldn't be happier...2 thumbs up Food: Amazing! 3 thumbs up! It truly would have been a 5 star experience if it wasn't for the very slow service. BUT our server was super nice and I know she was trying her best! Came in on a Friday night at around 7ish. Our wait to be seated was about 5 mins and then about another 5 mins just for our drink order to be taken. Again I have to say that our server was really trying!! We took that time to look over the menu and then waited for our server to come to take it. Our Order: Poke Tuna Salad Lion King Roll California Roll (kids fav) Firecracker Roll Texas Roll hamachi nigiri Dessert of Mango Mochi & Cream Puffs Poke Salad was good but the pieces were super tiny and not an appetizer I would share with someone. Lion King Roll is always something we try at different restaurants and I'm glad we did here! Not overly baked and tons of flavor! FireCracker Roll was good and had just enough spice, definitely a must if you like some kick. Texas Roll- Bland and not something we would ever get again. hamachi nigiri was like butter and melted in my mouth! Tons of flavor and tasted so fresh! Perfect thick cut of the fish. GET THIS! California Roll were huge pieces and of course kids loved it. Mango Mochi always yummy but the cream puffs are something you would buy in a tub at Costco. I would seriously just skip dessert and just enjoy the sushi. Overall it really was a good meal! And a nice atmosphere to have a family dinner or even a date night. Well what can I say, I'm a sushi fan. Osaka sushi is definitely a place that welcomes everyone with a homey feel to the restaurant. The staff was friendly in all aspects and maybe even a bit beyond. I had ordered the Dragon King Roll, which in fact did come in the shape of a dragon (super cute). The fish and sushi was fresh and delectable, making the trip to Modesto much more worth it. The portion and caliber definitely matched the sushi's price, so I would suggest coming here if you want good sushi for a decent price. I also split a tempura appetizer with my friend and I really enjoyed the shrimp tempura. The texture was nicely crunchy on the outside and of course flavorful in general. This is my review from my visit 2 weeks ago. I received the most terrible service from this place. Mind you, I have been coming here for awhile but I had never been offended or disrespected like I did. I had ordered the Bento box for my toddler. I was told there is no kids menu and that was the next best option. I ordered the salmon. My toddler didn't like it. I had informed my waiter the issue as my son didn't like it. I took a bite and it was very dry. ANYWAYS, The waiter returned it. The manager, Chloe came to the table and gave me the most attitude. Questioning me why I returned it and it was a waist of food. She said that this wasn't her problem, that I am the parent and it's MY problem, and that I should eat it instead of waisting it. I had asked who the owner was and she said " it doesn't matter they aren't here." Luckily, I was helped by Jessica the other manager, she handled the situation with professionalism and care. Now, I was reading some of these complaints on here and I see that the server or manager will give suggestions of something else if customer isn't happy with their order. Well, Chloe never did that. Instead she was defensive and rude. Mind you, I had already ordered a total of $100 worth of food. She didn't need to be nasty about a $15 bento box, or whatever the price is of your bento box. I just know that Chloe needs to be retrained and reminded that as a manger, it is mandatory to handle issues and situations with giving the best customer service. Please retrain her if she is kept as manager. As for Jessica, she was wonderful. And because of Jessica, I am willing to continue to be a paying customer. read more

This Sushi Place is unique and tries to be special. Although the tiles could give your shoes better grip - meaning that anyone can easily slip and fall because of the tiles. + The tea has Roasted Rice creating a deeper flavor. + The Miso soup is one of the richest I've tasted. They must have used broth vs. water to create the soup. + Servers were friendly. = I wanted to like the rolls, they looked pretty and seemed inventive. Unfortunately my taste buds became confused and wasn't sure what to taste. My taste buds went from sweet to sour to salty, all in the same bite. This was true for most of their rolls including the Pink Lady and the Fuji Mountain. We started mixing to check what was occurring and surely enough, taking some of the ingredients out and adding some from the other rolls made the roll taste better. I am in love with this place! It really has grown on me. When I can't make my drive all the way to Sushi Garden...this comes second best....and actually...its really competing with my first place choice of Sushi Garden. They have high quality service. Sushi was good but nothing to rave about. The sushi appetizer tasted a bit mushy so we didn't eat it all. We had a party of 5 and we all ordered 2 rolls each to share with the table and none of them really stood out enough to say that for sure we would come back. I like mixing soy sauce and wasabi to dip the rolls into, so I usually start with a small amount of wasabi and keep adding until I get the spiciness I'm looking for, needles to say I added all of the wasabi that came in my plate and it still wasn't hot enough. I had to order extra wasabi to finally achieve what I was looking for. Again, it just makes me wonder how fresh the food really is. Still loving Osaka!!! I had a wonderful early dinner there this evening. Today was the first day our county moved to the red tier, which means indoor dining is allowed. When arrived at 4:30 on the dot and we were promptly seated outside. I asked if indoor dining was available and I was told depending on the circumstance. Not a big deal though because they created a lovely atmosphere outside. The service was on point, never a low drink and very attentive. Food was delicious as always. I love this place and have reviewed before. I think it is the best Sushi in Modesto. The service is always friendly and prompt. Every dish that is served looks like it came off a magazine cover. This spot has been here for over 12 years. This was once a burger king converted into the sushi restaurant. The menu has a lot to offer but make sure to check the boards and ask the waitress for any special rolls. For those of our family and friends who resist sushi because they don't eat raw, look at the paradise roll. This roll is chicken. Yum!!! This is definitely my new sushi spot! The restaurant is nicely decorated and super clean. The service was top notch from the moment we walked in the door. Drinks never went empty and our waitress made sure we were happy with everything we ordered. She even gave my husband and I both miso soup, even though what we ordered didn't come with it. We got way too much food. I had nigiri sushi, sake and hamachi. Each order came with two pieces and they didn't skimp on the fish. It was nicely proportioned and fresh tasting. My husband ordered three specialty rolls for us to share. We had the Red Dragon, the Dragon King, and the Golden Phoenix. My favorite was the Golden Phoenix. The Dragon King was pretty spicy but tasty. The presentation of all the rolls was awesome. I loved the wasabi mushroom... Too cute! We had no room for dessert after all that, but they had mochi! Love the sushi at Osaka! Plus, I'm really happy that they've started serving grilled edamame! Everything I've ever eaten here is fresh and flavorful! Service is great, too. I went here a few days after Valentines Day (there were tons of people waiting to get in on Valentines Day evening!). We got there as soon as they opened and were able to sit inside. And during these time they are still taking orders I had called and asked for 2 rolls the dragon roll and firecracker roll and both were amazing she told me 15mins I got there the staff was already standing outside taking orders and bringing there order to their cars really great to see they are still in. Their sushi rolls are still amazing, but their potstickers seem to have changed. The shrimp potstickers I used to love were super fishy tasting when I ordered them. The dough also appears to have changed- it used to be thick and now it's paper thin. I'll skip the appetizers next time and just order sushi. read more

It's kind of easy to pass by if you're driving by. The store front is modest but neat. Once you enter, though, it's a different world. The atmosphere is private and chilled out in booths and buzzing at the bar (from what I saw from my booth.) My husband and I ordered a variety of things because we wanted to try as much as we could, and, normally expensive sushi is on the smaller side. Osaka is a little pricey. But they deliver. The sashimi was sliced perfectly (and on the generous side,) and tasted SO good- not like the stuff you get at a supermarket. And I'm not trying to dog on supermarkets. It's akin to the difference between a fast food chain and a cookout with the family; they're both good for different reasons, but, if you're gonna be fair cookout wins for freshness and flavor. We got ramen, sashimi appetizer, a bento box to share/sample, tempura appetizer, and a few nigiri (single serve sashimi/sushi.) The umi (raw sea urchin) was DOPE- if you're a fan. ****If you're not a fan you won't care, and if you've never had sushi before, I don't want you to get it because of this review and turn you off sushi/Japanese food (because it's more exotic a choice than most on the menu.) All in all, the atmosphere, presentation, quality, and taste were memorable and worth recommending. You're gonna spend money here, I'm not gonna lie, but you're gonna get quality food. *last tip: if you don't have a wad of cash to spend but you want to try (me a load of the time- just so happened it was an anniversary, so we splurged,) start with miso soup, water, hot green tea, browse the menu. I've been coming to the sushi restaurant for years. Personally I think they make the best Chirashi Don bowl in town. Their combo dinner with teriyaki chicken and sashimi is also excellent as are their custom rolls! *Because of Covid they've had to re-purpose the old drive-thru lane that's on their property into outdoor seating but it's actually set up quite well & the road noise isn't too terrible. They also are still doing to-go orders and are making the best of this pandemic. It is also worth mentioning that I've never had an issue with the customer service I've ever received here. The staff is respectful and prompt. They do get busy but they don't usually get far behind checking the table/clearing things off etc. I recommend you give them a try. read more

Love it! Love! I've tried many sushi restaurants all are ok but Osaka is my favorite. Always fresh and full of FLAVOR! Hawaiian Roll is a must if you want some spicy and the house salad is excellent with their delish dressing. Normally I take my hearing aids out in loud surroundings like restaurants because I want to hear the person I am with, and not the background noise. This restaurant I left them in and it was wonderful. I could HEAR my husband, the light background music, the tinkle of a waterfall, and barely any of the other people at their tables. It was glorious! Now the food, and I love food. This place was freaking awesome!!!! Fresh and I mean not recently thawed, it was truly fresh and so yummy!!!! I have rated the rolls below.
