I was staying in Smithfield and this was a convenient place to eat. I was glad I tried it. I was there for brunch and had the eggs benedict florentine that had spinach on the muffin and the eggs (2 eggs, 2 muffins) and hollandaise sauce. It was very tasty and I really enjoyed it. Then, as though that wasn't enough (it definitely was), I just had to try the Bailey's cheesecake. It came with pistachio ice cream and was quite wonderful. There is indoor and outdoor seating and you seat yourself. It can be pretty crowded. the seating includes a bar, high tables, regular tables, sofas, and booths. There are books around the inside for browsing or trading and an interesting collection. The downside is the service. It took awhile to get a menu and order. The food came out pretty quick after ordering but hard to get anyone's attention for the check-ended up going up to the counter to pay. read more

Smithfield has a wealth of bars and pubs, this place stands out due to its modern exterior. Inside however is a welcome blend of space and kitsch decor. While the food is still the same good quality as alway, the service is not great at all. I do have a drink or meal here once a week easily but even as a regular it sometimes takes up to 20mins to get someone's attention. Tonight I was waiting for a friend for half an hour and that time a waitress has passed me by 5 times without even looking at me. I eventually got to order my wine but it took another 20mins after my friend arrived before someone took her order. Serious improvement needed here. read more

Well color me impressed! Expectations were not high as Oscars was chosen after we could not get a table anywhere else. They have 6 kinds of gluten free beer, including one on tap which for a pint will only set you back €5.70 (330 ml will set you back up to €8 for GF beer). I also had the bacon cheeseburger with GF bread which was really good. The service was spectacular and fast. I will be back here without a doubt! read more

Great location and nice outdoor seating. The proximity to the lighthouse cinema is a definite plus here. Service was fast and efficient and we had a couple of excellent poitin cocktails. A little disappointing was the food - somewhat bland, I had a veggie burger and fries and the burger bun was really somewhat dry, the fries not much better (decent patty though). I would definitely come back for the cocktail and location but perhaps go for a different meal. read more

Dropped into Oscar's pre and post dinner, great drinks selection. I had the rioja which was very good. The staff were very friendly, we got seats and we were very very happy. Oscar's caters for a 30ish crowd, it's a nice break from the hipster bars in the city. They offer a larger choice of craft beer. The seats are very cool. You may find yourself settled into an old dentist chair sipping a lovely craft beer - happy days. read more

Being close to the lighthouse cinema this was a perfect spot to enjoy a bite to eat and a drink before a movie. A modern bar/restaurant, oscars was spacious if not a little too dark for 5pm on an evening. Having grabbed a comfy table we ordered some food and drinks from the exciting looking menu and great selection of bottled beers, cocktails and wine. The waitress struggled a little with our order and has to come back to confirm our drinks order and sadly did not bring my meal as requested. I ordered the chicken fillet burger without bacon and unfortunately on arrival there was a few rogue slices of bacon in there. Not the end of the world..... The burger itself was delicious. Tender , tasty with great sauce. The chips that came with the meal were really great also with hints of flavour and seasoning to make them stand out. Live in the area but hadnt been here yet. On the way back from town, decided to pop in for one. Lovely decor and atmosphere. Didnt have any food and didnt get to see the menu but it seemed a good few tables were having food. Downside; orderd a Mojito that took at least 10 mins to make and when brought to the table the waiter announced they were very low on mint, low being a overstatement (see photo). I drank it anyway as it took so long but might of been an idea to inform he customer first so i could pick something else. Nevertheless ill prob be back for wine :) read more

The food is average, drink selection is not bad, but the staff should be trained better in customer service. When I was there it was quiet and no one came up to our table to take our order, a cup of tea tops forever to get and I saw how the guy behind the counter stuffed something in his mouth as customers were paying their bill and didn't even try to hide the fact that he's eating... Not impressed. Came in once around 2 o'clock, the menu looked great outside and when we sat down the menu they offered to us was completely different and very small... We asked if we could maybe just get a sandwich and soup as nothing tickled our fancy from that menu and we were told it's not possible... Don't think the chef would be rushed of his feet to heat up some soup, as we were two of the very few customers ordering food at the time... It's very local to be, but not sure I'll be coming back. read more

I go for lunch here mainly, but also grab my morning coffee here too. The 'hot sandwich of the day' with soup for €8.50 is spectacular value; the soups I have had have been so thick in texture and rich in taste i.e. Very fresh and homemade tasting, perfect for these winter days. The hot sandwiches I have had are the pulled beef and chicken maryland. Both have been stuffed with meat; tender, juicy and flavoursome together with delicious fillings. Staff are very friendly but it doesn't feel like they are forcing themselves to be nice, it is genuine. €1.80 double espresso won't break the bank too. read more

Seriously, seriously like this place. I've been in for a coffee a few times but only had a meal there recently. The interior has a really cool feel to it, it's just an eclectic mix of awesome furniture, barber shop chairs as seats, copper tables, leather chairs, massive bar. I was in on a Saturday morning for breakfast and I loved that it wasn't crowded. The menu for breakfast/ brunch had many more options that I was expecting to cater to all. Light eaters who wanted a bit of granola, medium eaters looking for Eggs Benedict or those such as myself who ordered a fuller irish breakfast consisting of 2 pieces of ham, 2 sausages, 1 of each black and white pudding, eggs your way, 2 slices of toast, a tomato and large mushroom and homemade beans. Did I say this included coffee or tea all for under 10 euro? Honestly, I couldn't even finish it all and it held me over until dinner. The food was really nice for an irish breakfast and it was a relaxing and pleasant experience. The wait staff were very attentive which made the experience that much better. read more

I would highly recommend this place. The food tastes amazing, the service is great and the drinks are strong but good. The only thing I didn't like was that there was not a lot of options for the dinner menu other than that I would go back. The portion they give you is worth the money you pay for. And at first glance you think it's very little but I guarantee you would get so full you would not be able to stand up. read more

Unfortunately was not very impressed with Oscar's. I was left standing at the door beside what i assume was the manager and another waitress until I said hello to them first. I was then allowed to seat myself at a dirty table. Menu's were dropped down eventually. Food took 30 minutes without explanation or apology. The food was OK, nothing amazing. Overall it is a very nice space and i think if they had had enough staff on that evening it would have ran smoother. I wouldnt rush back for food but it's a nice place for a drink or a coffee(which is really nice) read more

Great setting, great location, great menu. Why don't I go here anymore? In short; the service. The staff are friendly, but I've often been left at a table (hungry) for 20 mins waiting for one to notice me. When I go to get the menu myself, they tell me to take a seat and they'll bring it to me. I've had quick bites turn in to 2 hour minor frustrations. Like I say, I love the food. I want to eat here all the time, but don't think I can risk the staff not being properly trained again. It's a shame. If you have loads of time though, and aren't overly hungry so can take a gamble on staff, you should definitely check this place out. read more

I pre booked Oscars in advance to avoid any qs and when I arrived to the restaurant our booking was not on the book. The blond girl who was on front of house was absolutely rude and over dramatic. She start accusing me of raising my voice (when this wasn't the case). Another man stepped in and took over and he was very polite and helpful. She then proceeded to go behind the bar and talk to another colleague who I assumed was a manger because she wore a blazer and started talking about us. Which I also felt was unprofessional. She was waving her hands and pointing at us and clearly talking about us. During our meal the blonde girl repeatedly walked by our table and gave us dirty looks which made me and my family feel very uncomfortable. The food wasn't bad I can't fault it. But personally I wouldn't recommend that girl to work in hospitality or the food industry. I would recommend her to go on a course to better her greeting skills as I wouldn't want anyone to get the same treatment. This really put a damper on our experience and I would strongly consider weather I would visit again. read more

Oscars is ok. I go there often for (actually nice) coffee in morning and occasionally for dinner. It's bit expensive for what this bar really is both in service and food. The menu selection is ok (burger, wings, fish&chips, salad..), the quality is nothing remarkable but still ok. Im not crazy about the "lunch menu" items, but the dinner and breakfast items ive had here were amazing. the coffee is ok, but not the strongest.
