My wife and I went into Oscar's on 27th street today , 14 Nov 24 at about 1:00. I ordered fish and chips, onion rings, and a diet Mt.Dew. My wife had a hot dog and a Pepsi. When I got the order, my wife's stuff was OK, but I got a Diet Pepsi and there were no onion rings. I checked the receipt and the cashier hadn't put the order in For the onion rings. I took the drink up and told the lady it was wrong. She went over and started to fill the cup. In the middle of it filling she left and was helping some guy at the register and just seemed to forget about my drink. When she finally remembered, she went back to the drink machine, gave the filled cup a funny look and she dumps it out. She headed further back and after a short while came back with my drink. I thanked her and went to eat my fish and chips. Turns out the fish portions are tiny. Like a fish stick and a half. There were three of them. I could only think it wouldn't even make One of the fish portions at Culver's. All in all, I was disappointed. I won't be coming back. read more

What a find! This little store offers frozen treats and hot eats. My wife compared the Oscar burger to the taste of a whopper at half the price. The fries were also good. My daughter said the fish sandwich is "really really good". It reminds me of a Dairy Queen but better quality and price. Was ordering with a nice young lady and asked about trying to recreate their sundae of the month from July and the worker guy next to her chimed in and was rude as hell and he did it twice when we were not talking to him. Usually the food is good, but a few weeks ago, we ordered fish & chips and we were very disappointed by the 3 fish sticks and few fries for almost $10. The fish fry was great until they changed it. Finally ordered something other than custard here, and boy, will I not do that again! The chicken tenders were thin, floppy, and didn't taste like real chicken. Seemed more like a rather large chicken nugget. (And it was wrapped in aluminum? Is that a thing? Wrapping chicken nuggets in foil?) The cup of broccoli cheese soup tasted how one would expect at a fast food type place. I love the model train set, it's a nice touch. Good place for a burger and frozen custard, quick competent service, it's clean, it's bright and there's plenty of parking. Their WI FI is a bit wonky so it's not a good choice to get any work done. There's nothing healthy to eat here, but then I wouldn't come here for that. read more

What's with the name Oscar? Why is a custard place named Oscar? Why not name it Colonel Custard after the famous Colonel Custer, who probably liked to eat custard? Besides the name, I've enjoyed the "flavor of the day" on two occasions at Oscar's. Both tasted very good. The staff is also very friendly and accommodating. The prices are fairly low, unfortunately so is the quality, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a scoop of chocolate ice cream. The bacon is extremely thin and tasteless. The beef patty itself is decent because it has a distinct grilled taste to it. The bread is fluffy and not too bad...but still it's not quite good. We stopped at Oscar's Custard Shop for the first time (we are generally Kopp's fans), and were VERY impressed. It is actually a very large and clean restaurant. The indoor was bright and colorful with "Circus" posters throughout. They serve several flavors of Custard, and a wide selection of shakes, and sundaes. They also offer huge hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken and fish items and several salad options. Fries and onion rings can be gotten as well. We ordered Custard and enjoyed all of it! A Double chocolate waffle cone, 2 Zebra cones, and 2 thick Chocolate Shakes...yum! Total bill was less than $14! It was a great first time experience...we will be coming back soon. read more

I took the kids there last night and I probably will not take them back again. As far as local custard "stands" go...Oscar's has to be low man on the totem pole. The building itself was clean. The train layout was interesting and definitely an attraction for the kids. The service was not horrible, but rather apathetic. Nobody seemed like they wanted to be working there. Not many smiles and a lot of blankly staring behind you while they took your order. Food was what really brought down the experience. It is pretty obvious they buy whatever is the cheapest product they can get and it shows. Chicken tenders were awful, processed chicken and they came wrapped in foil? Who does that? Not even a foil wrap...just hastily wrapped in a chunk of aluminum foil. They tenders had the consistency of chicken nugget and were a world away from a whole muscle tender that you would get at Culver's. My burger was very average. It was supposedly a 1/4 pound burger, but the patty was no bigger than what you might find on a Big Mac and it was dried out and had zero flavor. The bun was borderline stale and the extras (lettuce, tomato, and so on) were skimpy. The fries were okay. Nothing special. The onion rings probably came out of a box. Nothing appeared homemade...which is kind of what I expect from a custard stand. I'm generally pretty generous with reviews...but the dining experience was just so crummy. Yes, it was cheap...but I'd rather have them charge a little bit more and purchase better food than serve the high school lunchroom fare they currently sell. It's been some time since I visited Oscar's in West Allis, so when shopping took me to the area I decided to take the plunge and grab some dinner. This Oscar's was nice, with a circus train set that was a draw for kids. The prices on Oscar's grub drew me. Wow. A bacon cheeseburger and onion rings for under six bucks. Dang! The burger was good size, reminiscent of the feel of a Kopp's burger in my hands. I'm sorry it didn't taste as flavorful. It was just adequate in my opinion. The onion rings were really good. Crispy battered and they didn't fall apart when you ate them - the crunch held up. I didn't try the custard. I couldn't figure out what the flavor of the day was. It wasn't posted anywhere I could see. I should have asked my order taker, a polite friendly young man. But no worries - I will go back. I'm writing this in the car on the way home because my sundae was so great I couldn't wait to review it! This location is relatively new, so it's still clean and shiny on the inside. Service was quick, order was accurate, and we didn't have to wait long to receive our sundaes. I had the flavor of the day, which was pecan pie, with nice big chunks of pecan pie mixed into the custard. I topped it with peanut butter cups, which they gave a very generous amount. The cherry on the proverbial sundae was the nice model train they had setup, complete with the Seven Dwarfs mine, and some seasonal characters like the headless horseman and Dracula on a Vespa. Grant is one of the Proprietors. I met him at Andy's gas station on Ryan Road. I told him how stoked I was that I was meeting him and said whoa whoa don't leave I want to get your autograph ( my first mistake) and then told him that I wanted one of the Sundaes and I wrote Turtle sundae and he signed it. Again I told him how cool it was I was really glad that we met he was even buying cold stuff for his crew. I went through the drive-thru ordered a turtle sundae got up there was having a good time with the staff they brought the slip to Grant and he said well hey you still got to pay for this you just wanted my autograph it's not a voucher. So, not the best custard in Milwaukee, but definitely offers a few extra perks. The menu is complete with many different options, including decent salads and healthier options not commonly found at a custard stand type of restaurant. Biggest perk hands-down though is at the location on 27th St just past Rawson Ave. They actually have a full train set located in the middle of the restaurant. As a nanny of a little boy this is a huge "Hotspot". Even better, the train is set on a timer and when time runs out, kids can press a button to restart it. Definitely a fun spot to bring the kiddos for lunch. Make sure you allow extra time though if you have kids bc the train is a big hit! read more

Great food good service. Today I got the chicken dumpling soup. The broth could have been better but the chicken was nice and tender. It was nice watching the train go by but it ended up stopping and no one could figure out how to fix it. I love how fast and friendly the survive was.
