Met up with a fellow Yelp Elite for lunch on a weekday. We got there early and were seated immediately. Opted for the sushi and sashimi lunch special Bento Box. Wow. The presentation and taste of each of the dishes was great and, at $27, it was good value considering the amount of food. The service was quite good and our tea and water were refilled regularly. It was a very positive food experience and happy to recommend O Sushi if on Granville and looking for sushi.

Had a lovely lunch the over day at O Sushi. The menu is quite extensive, various options of rolls and other Japanese dishes. I tried the aburi rainbow rolls and it was a success. I'm a big fan of any aburi sushi in general and this one this was quite tasty. Service is fast and easy. I'll be back.

Great service and good food (interesting combination - my Amazing Spider Roll featuring coconut and Unagi Roll). Clean bathroom. Only minus was that the seats are SUPER hard and uncomfortable even when padded by my coat. Maybe it is a deterrent for the laptop crowd but people might eat more if they want to hang out for a while!

    Delish lunch special.

The service was super. Place was clean. Food was served hot and fresh and in a wonderful display. I had the vegetarian option of tofu and sweet potato tempura. The batter on that was the best I ever had. Affordable.

Highly recommend their aburi rainbow roll!! You get 8 different types of fillings/flavors. Truly a rainbow their tempura was also good. Make sure to also reserve for a spot! They get pretty full and busy. You can call them to reserve a table. The servers there were also very kind.

I came here for dinner on a Friday. It was fairly empty but the place is huge! And so is their menu (but their prices on their website differs to their actual menu). I ordered a few things. I will note, their food is not uber fresh and pretty pricey for the quality of food! I got the TOFU - Mozza Agedashi (Deep Fried Organic Tofu and Mozzarella cheese with Tempura Sauce). The tofu to mozzarella is even but the tofu is too thick for my liking. And the sauce made the tofu soggy. Then I got the GOMA-AE - Organic Kale with Black Sesame Dressing. This was disgusting. The kale was not fresh and the sauce did not taste good. I got the Brussel Sprout Tempura (6 brussels). The Brussel Sprouts pieces were huge and lacked any flavor (even salting them before frying would have taken it to another level). I asked for hot sauce and was charged $1.00 for siracha. Lastly, I got the Yam Roll. It was not very fresh and basic. They had 2 waiters and the service was very fast! This came to $40. For the quality of food, this is crazy to me. I would pass on this one!

Don't judge this place by the storefront. It looked dodgy from outside but inside it was nicely done up. Renovated and such. There are regular tables and chairs in the front part of the restaurants. Towards the back, the tables are smaller with high stools and meant for max 2 diners at each table. The prices have gone up drastically when you compared them against older menu pictures in Yelp. But I think the food selection and decor have also changed. The set lunch bento, now known as teishoku, starts from $18 for the tofu version and to $24 for sushi and sashimi version. I had the sushi and sashimi teishoku. It was beautifully plated and had a bit of everything. Everything was very fresh and delicious. The fried items were not overly greasy. It was not super filling but the portion was enough to keep you at maybe 70-80% full. I deducted 1 star off for the poor service. It was not busy when I was there with plenty of tables available. But I was automatically led to the back tables with the high stools just because I was dining alone. I requested for the regular table as I'm short and high chairs or stools are my enemies. Then I noticed other customers who came in after me, even single diner, were not brought to the back to be seated. When these actions happened, you start to wonder why. Service wise, they only focus on bigger groups or people who ordered a lot. They went to those tables frequently to refill their tea. Nobody took notice of me and other diners nearby. Finally one server came over to top up my water glass. They didn't even bother with the diners next to me (they each ordered 1 roll, maybe the servers think that's too little?). Only eager to clear their plates. Service on the whole is not great. At the speed they try to clear the dishes, it is on par with a typical Chinese restaurant which tend to clear your plates even when you are still eating. Quite a pity as the place is really beautifully done up and the quality of food is there. The staff pretty much ruin the dining experience. Not a place to linger chatting with friends when done eating.

Oh O Sushi...considering you're in the Canadian city with probably the best sushi around, it's hard to compete. And while you did quite a few things right, it also wasn't anything to write home about. So I give you a perfectly average rating. The biggest sin though was the seafood udon. Not terrible, but you gave us a whole squid in the udon. Like the WHOLE thing...squid beak and organs intact. That was kinda uncool...and also inedible. Otherwise, the food was alright and the service was pretty good. The Chirashi Don had a lot of fresh seafood and West Coast Combo was fine. But when the things I remember about you most are the squid guts and stellar ginger ale selection, a 3-star rating seems just about right.

    Great healthy options and alternatives.

While I was waiting for my takeout order I was reading the menu, and what stood out for me was the detail in the menu and healthy options (see pics). I know this sounds a bit weird, but the menu was very attractive, as it made it so easy and appealing to order. Their food items and sushi rolls were very creative and actually came with descriptions as to what was in it, which is helpful. Not all sushi places have that and you have to ask the server...what's in this and what's in that..... Loved the healthy alternatives.....GMO free, Organic, Free range etc....awesome. Vancouver is filled with amazing Sushi places, so there's not much to say....I liked it....their Sushi was fresh and appropriately proportioned (see pic). The right amount of salmon to avocado to rice. The right amount of salmon to avocado to cream cheese to rice. This sounds like a no-brainer....I know, but it counts....I've been to sushi places where they try to save a buck by replacing the serving of salmon with rice and the serving of avocado with cream cheese. With these guys I got what I paid for. I mean I've been to a couple of sushi places where I ordered the Philadelphia roll (salmon, avocado and cream cheese), where the majority of the roll was just cream cheese and literally a slither of salmon and a tiny cube of avocado. It all comes down to how much expertise the sushi chef practices and how ethical the management of the place is toward their guests. Even though the service was decent, I think it could use improvement. I waited too long for my couple of rolls, and at the end I asked about my order to find out it had been sitting there all along. But, I liked their sushi and the location is great!

I had a fantastic katsu experience here today. I wasn't expecting much since it's a sushi place, but it was more memorable than other katsu places. If you're in downtown, I recommend stopping by here and having a special experience like mine.

If you're looking for a good sushi alternative located in the heart of Downtown Vancouver, I'd recommend this place. My servers are nice and friendly. I love their choice of music as well! This sushi place also opens pretty late.

We walked by and decided to try this place out. We were sat down immediately at the front table which is great for people watching. We didn't like the cauliflower dish but I really liked the Ume shisho leaf roll. It's a great casual place when you want a sit down meal.

But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

Me, I know nothing about Izakaya or what is or isn't authentic Japanese cuisine, so this review is coming from someone with zero knowledge or expectation of any specific foods or experiences. Despite it being a weeknight, the place was packed. It was good that we had a reservation. There was a couple in line before me and they were walk-ins, and there were no available seats for them. I noted how small this place was, and crowded, with the tables close together and a long bar with a counter and barstools there (also close together). Our reserved table was right by the front door - literally, - so every time the door opened, we got a gust of cold air (and it was a cold February night when we were there). I kept my coat on. Truth be known, I was not very comfortable. Also, it was loud. Very loud. I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. (I'm too old for the loudness!).
