I have to say, if I would have written this review a few days ago, it wouldn't have been pretty. There was a mixup on my membership that was very concerning to me and I wasn't sure how they would handle my claim. That said, Ashley was very courteous when I called. She spoke to the GM, Jeffrey, when I called and then they asked me to send them an email to verify my request. In return, the GM himself sent a lengthy and polite email explaining what had happened and took every measure to rectify the issue. Even though the initial experience wasn't to par for me, I am satisfied with the outcome and feel that customer service such as this deserves a good mention and a 5 star review. read more

I've visited many wineries but this is the best of the best. It is a great comfort to know that this family owned and operated winery strives for sustainability with the use of renewable energy and cows and sheep to keep the ground free of unwanted vegetation and provide fertilizer. The day I was there every table was filled. They were serving black angus chorizo burgers and a fresh salad with a vinaigrette that was a masterpiece. Enough about the food. Let's move on to the wine. I had a difficult time deciding at the end of the tasting what to buy. Every wine I tasted was superb in its own right. My hat's off to Oso Libre. Not only do I look forward to my membership shipments, but I plan to order much in between and look forward to numerous visits for the special events. BRAVO!!! read more

We met the winemaker Chris (I think), and felt very welcome in the tasting room. Fantastic wines, which seem to garner awards at every competition they have entered. While an attractive location and friendly staff, I must complain about the exorbitant and misleading pricing to taste their average quality wine.When our group arrived we had to wait in line to pay two ladies at a table set up before the entrance. We thought we had to pay for our lunch here (Angus Burgers(). Instead, we were informed that we had to pay $15 to taste their wine...$15.00???? are you kidding?. After we asked about the price, we were told we could buy a glass of wine for $12 where we had to pay for the burgers further along their assembly line. My wife did the tasting and was frankly put off by the large tip jar on the counter asking for guests to tip the pourers, as if $15 wasn't enough. Also, when my wife bought a bottle of wine, her tasting fee was not credited to the purchase, which is customary at many other wineries. When I asked about the $3.00 refund, I was informed that a single glass of wine was also $15. Assuming I would get a generous pouring for this unbelievably high price, I said OK. When I told their waiter i was buying a glass of wine, he led me into a small tasting room and proceeded to fill my glass with an amount only slightly larger than a tasting sample. Not wanting to argue at this point, I took the wine back to my seat and waited for my burger, which frankly was dry and not as good as Carl's Junior. The entire episode was unpleasant. I live in Templeton and have been to nearly every winery in the region. I can tell you that this is not worth the drive, unless you enjoy being charged more money than any other winery does. I don't normally post reviews, I actually had to down load the app to post this review, the service was so bad. Went out for burgers. The burgers were outstanding. However, the service from the staff was very poor. The staff were down right unfriendly. The tasting fee was $15 per person and the pours were very small. After tasting 5 wines, we had less than 5 oz of wine total. I used to be a member and the staff were trying to talk me into rejoining. After my experience today, not only will I not rejoin, I will not recommend them to anyone. For those of us who are locals, we have so many other wineries to choose from who treat their customers so much better. Keep looking if you are looking for a truly outstanding Paso Robles Wine Experience; Oso Libre does NOT deliver. read more

Good wines, friendly owners, fun animals. Maybe our favorite stop of the day (although to be fair it was the last :) because of the owners. They shared a lot of interesting info about the winery and animals (el paccas, chickens, etc.) which made for an entertaining conversation. The wines were tasty and they comped our four tastings with the purchase of two bottles. Also they gave us great tips on where to eat in town and we got a couple freebies by dropping their names. read more

Oso Libre checks all the boxes, memorable wines, beautiful setting, and a nice tasting room with friendly staff. After buying some wine we sat on the patio and ate our picnic lunch. They have cows, sheep, and alpaca. That combined with the beautiful vineyards and the incredible birds that soar through the valley made the setting so enjoyable. Put this one on your list of places to stop. read more

We are wine club members at several wineries both in Temecula and in Paso, but Oso Libre is by far our FAVORITE. The wines are delicious (especially the Solara), the staff is friendly and helpful, and the views are awesome. Visiting this winery for the afternoon is more relaxing than a visit to a spa. I recommend visiting during one of their Estate Angus BBQ Burger Saturday's, it's a little busy, but worth it. read more

We had our first visit to Paso Robles wine trail. Our first stop was Oso Libre and I have to say great first stop. The Angus Burger was outstanding. The wine was top notch as well. We were extremely excited to try out Oso Libre after several family members had suggested it to us. We got there close to 4:20pm, and there were two other parties there. My husband and I didn't feel like we got much attention as the owners' son seemed to be too preoccupied talking to the couple next to us. We weren't sure what wines we were trying or what blends/varieties they were. We tried to strike up a conversation with Jeff, who seemed disinterested. I also felt as though he was very rude as he gave the couple next to us a "friends and family" discount in front of us because their friend had recommended it to them. We were also told to go there, and after spending almost $200, didn't feel as though we received very good service. Won't recommend to others in the area due to what we felt was rude behavior perhaps because we were a "younger crowd." Decent wine, way overpriced, and the staff should be friendly to all guests even if it's close to closing time. read more

I read good reviews about this winery and made it there on our trip in November 2011. The wine was better than any other wine we tasted during our 3 days in Paso. It is our new favorite and we even joined the wine club. We had stopped joining wine clubs a few years ago, but the wine was that good. My wife and I, along with the other couple we were there with, all rated this at the top of our trip. We did not taste anything we did not like and my wife and I both work at a winery. The owners and employees were very friendly and I would say this is a must stop the next time you are in Paso. read more

What an amazing experience! The wine was fantastic, the people were great. We met the owner and his wife, they were so welcoming and just such an interesting, fun couple. This was our by far our favorite wine tasting visit over 3 days in the paseo area! The staff is extremely friendly especially Big John! He made our experience outstanding. He knows the area and is very knowledgeable about the oso libre wines and the beef. We had a wonderful few hours at the winery on a Gorgeous Sunday afternoon . ANOTHER BAD EXPERIENCE ON THE WINE TRAIL NEAR CAMBRIA: In this case, after a rather unpleasant tasting at Opolo Vineyards, we stopped at the Oso Libre Vineyards. I had tried the Syrah at Opolo and was reminded of how little I care for that varietal. When the somewhat surly witch of a pourer offered their Syrah to me, I demurred and let her know that I wasn't a fan of the Syrah grape. At this she snipped at me, "But it won a Gold Medal!". None of the wines here were outstanding in the least and the service remained snide. Once again, all was forgotten once we arrived at the Grey Wolf Winery down the road. But, not unlike Opolo, the wines were mediocre, more like Stepford Wines where all taste the same and none rise to the occasion. read more

The wine has been a favorite now for 2-3 years and we always try to stock up 3-4 times a year. We always recommend going there to anyone primarily just to experience the unique service they offer! We have visited two years in a row and stayed after our tasting for a glass of wine outdoors both times. The owner is very knowledgeable and friendly; our server this year was not so much...the day we went, they were also doing tastings only indoors and not out on the lovely shaded patio, which we would have preferred. read more

A friend and I visited Oso Libre on a whim maybe two years ago, and were absolutely blown away. I immediately joined the wine club and have been back several times since then to taste and to introduce friends who have never been before. I'll split this review up into two sections: the tasting room and the wine itself. Tasting room: Oso Libre's tasting room has a really great feel to it. It can get crowded at times, but it's spacious enough between the indoor and outdoor areas that I've never really felt it was too busy for me to enjoy myself. The winery dogs are adorable and very friendly, and the view of the vineyards (complete with cows, sheep, and alpacas grazing) is gorgeous. There's a lot of souvenir-ey stuff available for purchase in the tasting room, but it feels natural and not overwhelming like some wineries where you feel like you're being poured wine in a gift shop or the front room of a Cracker Barrel. The decor is also really cool, with a fair amount of Dia de los Muertos style art scattered around and sometimes seasonal decorations up as well. The staff have always been very helpful and friendly when I've been there, and I've struck up a couple of fun conversations about the wine with them. Chris and Jeff (owner and GM, respectively) are usually wandering around and are very welcoming. Chris in particular is just a fun guy to talk to, and seems genuinely interested in what people think of his wine, which makes sense since he's a winemaker in addition to being the owner. The wine: I grew up in northern Santa Barbara county surrounded by great wine, so I can be very picky. I have rarely been as wowed by a tasting lineup as I was the first time I visited Oso Libre. Part of that, I'm sure, is due to the fact that their wine happens to line up really well with my personal preferences. All of the wines I tasted at Oso Libre were light (without being thin) and perfectly balanced. Even their cab blends had a great full-bodied feel without being overwhelmingly heavy or tannic. Most central coast wineries, sadly, can't pull off Cabs very well since the climate isn't really ideal for it like it is up in Napa, so I was impressed by this. The best red I tried, though, was the Carnal GSM. It's exactly what a GSM should taste like. Their Volado Viognier is also out-of-this-world amazing. The prices are pretty normal by central coast standards, which means it's not really cheap but also not particularly expensive, and the price/quality ratio is a lot better than Napa/Sonoma in my opinion. Perhaps the most impressive thing is that I have yet to taste a single wine their across several visits that I didn't think was great. Some are more my style than others, of course, but the wines are across the board delicious. In summary: If you're a fan of big, earthy, palate-wrecking reds, butter-filled oaky chards, or super high-acid whites this may not be the winery for you. Otherwise, I highly recommend you check it out. You won't be disappointed. read more
