I work in a Winery in Livermore so I was looking for a great experience with fab wines and I found it. Oso Libre had been recommended and we were greeted by Matt who is the tasting room manager. We were a party of 10 and everyone loved the wines. They age them for a minimum of 4 years and honestly they were all delicious. They also have a whole fabulous menagerie of Alpacas, sheep and Angus cattle. The sheep & Alpacas roam inbetween the vines, it's so cool. They gave us little crackers and bites of cheese which was great and most importantly we left LOVING this place and the wines and of course Matt. We will be returning here no doubt. read more

This was the first stop on our tour of several wineries in the Paso area. We were greeted before we even got to the door by Jeff...he was warm and friendly answering all our questions about the property. Our server was amazing (I'm so sorry but I don't recall her name.) She was knowledgeable about not only the wines but the property as well. Being an working ranch AND 100% sustainable is what really drew me in. Love the idea of the sheep grazing the vineyards and the owls keeping the pests under control. I am not a wine connoisseur, by any means, but do enjoy drinking it. I've been a member for almost two years and I've visited the winery twice. Always a good vibe! Happy people, fun employees. The owner is always there interacting with customers. Wines are not pretentious but consistent and pretty good across the board. Special mention of the best greeters in Paso, the doggies! Love them! I'd give five stars but I don't want to give wine snobs the wrong idea. If you are looking for accessible fruit forward wines, Oso is great. If you are a wine drinker that scoffs at easy drinking wines, looking to cellar, etc. This probably isn't the place for you. Oso Libre also has a great beef club! This is a great winery to visit and if you are looking for a fun wine tasting experience and fun wines, you'll love Oso Libre. read more

Oso Libre winery is cream of the crop! Their wine is unique and delicious, tasting room offers many options, wine club allows you to customize your orders and best of all they offer personal and top notch customer service. My fiance doesn't usually like chardonnay, but he loves theirs! The burger events are also incredible- definitely one of the top 5 burgers I've ever tasted (and that says a lot). I love how environmentally conscious they are and that they focus on reusing their materials. They are always available for questions and are incredibly responsive. We have been members of other wine clubs and none have compared to the level of service and care we've received from Oso. The landscape is beautiful; the tasting room is surrounded by rolling green hills, orchards and creatures ranging from alpaca to sheep and cattle. We were warmly greeted by the resident Aussie. You have to love a winery that has a dog roaming the landscape! We arrived on a lazy Saturday afternoon and met the owner. He told us of plans to bring another dog to the pack. We started our tasting as the only group on the patio. The metal and wood tables are situated so you can watch the animals as you enjoy your glass. We ate our picnic that we brought for the excursion. We began with one employee pouring for us but then had another person serving us as the crowd outside grew. The service was not as attentive when they were stretched thin. Another friend joined us towards the end of the tasting, but she did not have wine. This is when the confusion began. Because we has so many servers, they were not sure how many tastings we purchased. They tried to charge for the friend that did not drink and did not believe me when I said that she had arrived late. This confusion could have been avoided if they were better staffed to help keep track of our party. However, I would give them another try if I was in the area. Our first impression with the owner where he told us that we could wander the grounds was what I remember as the best part of the visit. read more

I have been to many wineries across the country and of them most in California (50?) and Oso is the absolute best for reds. Their cabs, zins and blends are better than anything I have had. I went to over 30 wineries and never considered joining a wine club and Oso Libre made it an obvious YES! I felt that if i went to a winery that had red wines that were so good that I couldn't resist, I joined their club. Well, I'm a proud Oso club member. Normally blends are not very good. It seems like most wineries make blends of left over grapes. Not at Oso Libre. The first (and only) blends I ever actually loved were theirs. They age their wines in oak far longer an anybody else I have found and the results are tremendous. I also never really loved a zin until having theirs long aged in oak! It changed it so that it almost tastes like a great cab. Oso has a true sustainable winery with cattle, chickens, ducks (I think), natural water on the property from streams, llamas and who knows what else they've figured out over the years to make things work perfectly. They spent over 10 years cultivating the grapes before opening the winery. It's obvious they truly love what they do. Their product is second to none. Be aware I'm a cab sauv fanatic. The best zin I've ever had? Oso. The best cab? Oso, and nothing has been even close. The best blends? Oso, and I never thought I'd really love a blend until Oso. If you understand good quality red wines, Oso is the top of the line. read more

There are many wineries that I've visited that the atmosphere has left such a great impression on me that I forget what the wine tastes like. This was what happened on my first visit to Oso Libre. My large party was welcomed by Jeff and had a wonderful host pouring for us. I had such a great time I bought the wine! My second visit I was again greeted by Jeff (I believe the owner) and the same amazing host. But this time the winemaker stopped in and shared some winemaker insight and the vineyard manager joined us as well. Again, the hospitality was so wonderful and genuine that I joined the club! I have yet to take advantage of any club parties and events, but I'm sure they will not disappoint. read more

Oso Libre is one of our all-time favorites in Paso. We have come to Paso 4 times and have made it a point to come to Oso every visit. We love the wine but keep coming back for the amazing customer service. They have a number of wine membership options, and we have continued to increase our membership with every visit. They also have a beef club. They raise Black Angus cattle and send you a shipment once a year. The wine: Big and complex. Everything that we have had from Oso is amazing. The wine is on the pricier side, you are looking at around $40-70 per bottle. The beef: Some of the best beef we have had. Those who have had Black Angus will know, it is a very flavorful meat, and getting the shipments once a year has been awesome. Ashley in the tasting room is very knowledgeable and has been with the company for many years, she has helped us on a number of occasions and was the one to sign us up for the wine club. Our last visit we were served by Jeanine, who was awesome! We also had a chance to meet the owner Chris. Everyone in our party happen to go to the same community college as Chris and he was nice enough to spend some time and tell us about how he got into the wine business. What a GREAT winery! This was our first time tasting in Paso and Oso Libre came highly recommended from some colleagues. We were impressed from the start, pulling in they have signs about the animals that live on property and they are pet friendly you can bring your leashes dog tasting with you. Everyone working was very friendly, we enjoyed talking with Steve and also met Kris who was is one of the owners. My husband being a disabled veteran truly appreciated the generosity the winery shows towards veterans and the even have a non profit charity that donates to wounded warriors. We joined this winery about three months ago. We returned this weekend with 8 of us and where treated incredible. It was a hot day, Brett immediately put up another umbrella for us and brought us cold water. Jeff came over to greet us and tell us about the Angus hamburgers on the grill. My favorite winery in Paso! The wine is delicious (although you have to be a member to try their best drops), the people are friendly and informative and they have animals galore exploring the grounds (dogs, cows, sheep, birds, you name it!). One of the first wine clubs I ever joined and still the best in terms of value and taste. Definitely visit during one of their Estate Angus Burger days if you can, $10 gets you a delicious burger covered in gruyere cheese, onion, mustard and greens, which, of course, goes so so well with a glass of whatever most tickles your fancy. read more

I came in with friends over the 4th of July weekend and it's a really cool place! We were sent by other wineries (we like to ask what they're drinking) and couldn't have been happier. -The interior: it's hip and cool, on par with Tooth and Nail/Force of Nature. Has a slight Dia de los Muertos theme with a touch of hip industrial. Want to drink outside? They have a beautiful patio overlooking their vineyard. The food sounded amazing, but we didn't get a chance to try it. -The wine: we're avid red drinkers, truth be told. Their whites were on the good side, but their reds were delicious! My friend, who ended up joining their wine club, had just been introduced to the world of red wine on the 3rd of July (when we went tasting the first time). All of their reds are full bodied and delicious, not a bad one in the bunch. Their Revolucion is fantastic, as is the Grande and the Reserva. -The service: everyone was great to us. The owner stopped by a few times to laugh and chat. The guy handling our tasting was personable and joked with us the whole time. Everyone was really great, and knowledgeable. read more

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this winery. I loved it so much I had to join their wine club. Have visited 3 times, the last time was on the Dia De Los Muertos Mexican holiday and boy did I have a blast. Mariachi's, Food and wonderful fun. The owners are so welcoming despite the large crowd. They made everyone feel at home. Chris, Linda, Jeff and Liz, and all of the workers were so generous and kind to me and my guests. I have been to several of the other wineries but this by far is my favorite to visit and always will be. This is a small SIP certified sustainable vineyard. It's a must stop! First off I love that they give back! Your wine tasting fee $15. is waived with the purchase of two bottles individually. The day we went, our tasting fees proceeds went to charity. They also donate to a local kitchen that serves and nourishes those going through cancer. Now the wine you must try their Award Winning NV Carnal 96 points and Double Gold in San Francisco's International Comp. For limos and party vans RSVP is required due to the parking availability. Enjoy the atmosphere and friendly service. We went for their Angus BBQ event recently and joined the wine cubs. I had previously tried the Querida 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon from Oso Libre and loved it soo much I really wanted to visit the tasting room. I admire the fact that they are SIP Certified and embrace sustainable farming. The tasting room is a bit small, but I did visit on a holiday weekend when they were extremely busy. The owners were pouring and they were very attentive to each patron, though the room was quite full. I admired their enthusiasm and the passion for their wines. read more

I simply cannot say enough good things about this place! I was there wine tasting with my friend Karissa, and every thing about the place makes me want to go back. The wine was the best that we tasted all day, and every single varietal we tried was good. They make a lot of blends, which seems to be working for them. The viognier was my favorite, we left with a bottle. The gentleman pouring the wine was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Severely disappointed. This is my first review of a winery or anywhere. I usually do not take to Yelp until I have exhausted all other remedies and contacted the establishment first. I am planning my best friends 30th birthday. She is out of town and wanted to come to paso to visit me and go wine tasting with some friends. I contacted Oso libre to bring the group of 14 tasting. They told me I could not come after 2 pm. So I moved all of my other reservations around and called them back to go right at 11 am. When I called back she told me I had to pay in advance for the tasting. What? Then proceeded to tell me it is custom in the industry. I informed the woman no other winery has required that. She said oh well we do. I told her I don't know everyone tasting as some are the aunts and uncles of the people and I do not want to be in charge of handling everyone's cash, making change and explaining to them they can't use their credit card they have to bring cash to pay me back. Again I am so disappointed and angry. What happened to whatever is most convenient for your customers? What happened to customer service? What happened to customers first? They said the reason is because it's hard to keep track of who has paid and who hasn't for groups of 40. I explained we weren't 40 we were 14... She said, no. Selfish businesses = no business. Businesses with customer service will get my business. Halter Ranch and Justin Winery were super friendly and super acoomodating. read more
