Stopped by Osteria alla Frasca for a late weekday lunch and I was seated right away. This restaurant is tucked away in a little corner so it's quiet and peaceful. The servers were very friendly and I ended up getting their daily special, which was a clam spaghetti. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the clams and the sauce paired perfectly together. I've had my fair share of pasta dishes while in Italy, and this was certainly near the top in terms of deliciousness! Definitely check this place out! read more

Reservations are a MUST. We called around 6pm on a Saturday night and we're lucky to get a table for two at 730 just after opening. Others were turned away as the restaurant was fully booked, and they correctly stated that most places require a reservation, particularly on the weekend. After spending three weeks throughout Switzerland and Italy, this is easily the best meal that we had. We ordered the grilled octopus, burrata, tagliatelle, ragu, and gnocchi. Each dish was fantastic. My son is a trained chef and he said it was the best gnocchi that he's ever had. This place is a hidden gem. (4.5 stars) Dinner here was such a lovely experience. We were the only reservation of the late evening and so we had the small restaurant to ourselves. It was the intimate Venice dining experience you dream about. The owner was incredibly friendly and attentive, told us all about life in Venice and genuinely cared that we enjoyed the meal, which isn't hard to do after having a glass or two of their wonderful cabernet. The squid ink pasta is an absolute must. It's the real deal (you're lips and teeth will turn black) but it's unforgettably fresh and vibrant. I could eat a bowl of that any time of day. The gnocchi was also lovely, light and fresh. I wish it had a little bit more richness but the seafood was so freaken fresh. While visiting Venice, my friend and I picked Osteria alla Fresca to dine at in the hope of enjoying some outstanding local cuisine and we were NOT disappointed! Tip: Reservations are recommended both because this place is quite popular, and the seating is more than somewhat limited. Despite the fact that there were only two staffers working when we visited (one host/waiter and one chef) the staff was totally up to the challenge of providing an excellent dining experience, including some great conversations and outstanding food :-) From our conversations with the staff and reading of reviews written by others, apparently this place has a different menu most every day; on the day we dined here, they gave us the full Italian dining experience, including a first course, a second course, and a starter. We had the seafood pasta, seabass gnocchi, seared tuna and assorted grilled fishes. We somehow also found room for dessert - everything was beautifully presented and delicious! If you are in Venice, you have to come here! We booked reservations about a month before based on the good Yelp reviews and ended up having a great dinner. This place is in a non-touristy neighborhood, which is a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Venice. My wife and I got three courses, no dessert. The seafood tasted fresh and the pasta was incredible. They don't have the same menu every night, so some of the dishes in the pictures may not be available on the particular night you come. We loved the mixed seafood appetizer, the linguini with seafood, and both fish main courses we had (tuna and something else that was just divine). A lot of reviews say to get the gnocchi, but we did not think it was particularly special although still good. All in all, this was the best meal we had in Venice on a trip that also included Michelin dining. read more

On a summer night in Venice my husband and I wanted a special meal to celebrate our anniversary. We decided to try this place because of the great reviews and... it was perfect! It was a bit of a walk from where we were but in Venice you walk. It's hidden from the many tourists, which is perfect! The food was amazing and the service superb! I get that subtlety is the strategy with seafood seasoning in Venice, but the dishes were under seasoned and didn't always make sense with the flavor combinations. Spritz was pretty good. Skip the bread, it's below average for what I've had in Italy, and that's a low bar (though the breadstick was fine). I understand coperto, but to serve this as compensation is hardly justified. It was Thanksgiving Day and I was traveling alone in Italy so I wanted to find somewhere special and delicious to celebrate all that I am thankful for while solo. And I managed to find one of the best spots in all of Venice. Osteria Alla Frasca is cozy and intimate. Maybe not fancy, but elegantly humble. There are 5 tables for 2 (or seating for 10) inside, as well as a few more tables outside. It is tucked away on an out-of-the-way residential block, which adds to its charm and authenticity. It isn't hard to get to though, only a 2 minute walk from the F.Te Nove boat stop. It is on a corner with dim lighting and candles flickering on the tables. The host is happy to greet you and make conversation as well as advise on the menu (which is all in Italian). I knew I probably wanted the sea bass (€22) when I walked in, so there weren't a lot of decisions O had to make. I was told that eggplant would be replacing the normal mushrooms on the sea bass but I actually prefer that so I readily agreed. While waiting with some bread and a 1/2L of Prosecco (€10) I was able to chat a bit with the host and examine the posters of seafood on the wall. The wait was just about 15 minutes until my sea bass arrived piping hot and fried to a flaky golden crust. And it was everything I had hoped for. It had just the right amount of fried crunch to go with the melt in your mouth flesh full of flavor. It really was prepared to perfection. For dessert (because what American doesn't have dessert on Thanksgiving?), I went with my always-favorite, the tiramisu (€6). It was amazing as I'd hoped and was the perfect complement to the fine main course. After, I was suggested a shot of espresso (€2) which I agreed to because it goes so well with tiramisu. Again, just what I didn't realize I needed. Finally, I was surprised to learn that the espresso is accompanied by a complimentary glass of grappa - a strong grape based Italian brandy. I wasn't actually sure I'd be able to handle the grappa at this point, but he told me I'd be able to walk out into the brisk night without my jacket after, and sure enough he was right. 15 minutes later I walked out in great spirits and without wearing my jacket. This is a terrific restaurant located in a quiet neighborhood outside of central Venice. It was about about 30 minute walk from our hotel (we were a two minute walk from the train station). We loved everything we ordered. Bruno, the host is such a sweet nice man. He told us exactly what to order and everything was scrumptious. Appetizers - the grilled octopus was both tender and crunchy; the razor clams were an absolute delicacy. If you've never had them and like calms, try them. Dinner- Sea bass sautéed in tomatoes and eggplant; gnocchi (always order gnocchi if on the menu) was cooked perfectly. The shrimp, pepperoni, tomato sauce made it perfect. My husband and I found this charming Restaurant by chance! We were just walking one night, getting lost in Venice and hoping to find just the perfect place for a late night dinner and as we turned one corner, there it was! Beautifully lit at the end of an alleyway. It was a gorgeous warm peaceful night, so we chose to sit outside and the service and food could not have been better! This is not a tourist place from what we noticed, as we were surrounded by Italian locals. I had the Pasta Pomorodo and it was excellent! It's a simply dish, but as they say, the best restaurants are usually judged by their most simple dishes, because it comes down to the freshness of the ingredients, the Chef's preparation and presentation. The dish was very flavorful and the pasta was al dente! Service was excellent and very friendly. We felt welcomed and were happy to practice our Italian with the waiter. This restaurant is an amazing find in Venice! We ordered the codfish montecato for an appetizer, a traditional venetian dish. It was extremely well prepared and delicious. For dinner we had the gnocchi with scallops and "sea asparagus" and the seabass fillet with eggplant. Both were amazing but the seabass fillet was out of this world. The attention to every detail of this dish shows that they have a remarkable chef in the kitchen. The fish was pan fried and lightly crisped on the outside for a perfect texture. The light sauce and the eggplant combined to make this dish truly outstanding. We loved it so much we had to order a second one which was also prepared to perfection. The owner truly takes pride in his restaurant and talked with us a bit when the meal was over. He personally shops for the fish which is caught fresh and purchased from a local market nearby. At over 120 years old, it's not surprising that this restaurant has been around for so long. read more

We called this restaurant for a reservation 15 minutes in advance of our arrival. We got there around 8:45 pm, and we were one of two tables. The place is small. However, by 9:15pm the place was all full- every single table. All of our dishes were excellent, my only complaint is the seating arrangements. Picked this place almost entirely based on yelp rating. They were spot on! Tiny, romantic place that was more off the beaten path than any we ate at while in Venice. A nice causal vibe and service from who I took as the owner. We made a late seating reservation, was 10mins late and nothing but welcome when we arrived. Simple menu with mostly seafood. Whipped cod with polenta appetizer was unique and delish. Ravioli w/ shrimp, spaghetti with shell fish and a sea bass with egg plant split between us was a perfect amount of food. Can't see how you could go wrong here and I would highly recommend. Mostly due to such limited seating, would suggest making a reservation. Once again this all-time favorite of ours is as always sublime. Our last dinner in Venezia 2 years ago almost exactly was here as was our first dinner back in Venezia last night. Reservations are always a good idea; there are only a few tables so best to email them prior especially on weekend evenings. We came there at around 1900 last night after about 24 hours travel time- we'd communicated with Bruno (the owner) prior & he had a prime table reserved for us. Primi- Grilled Octopus (probably the best we'd ever eaten!!!) Baccala mantecato con polenta e basilico (creamed salt cod over polenta with Basil) - This was a favorite we'd had before and it was as always sublime. Segundi- Spagetti alla Frasca- =Spagetti with lots of shellfish - always a perfect choice. Perfectly cooked pasta with gorgeous scampi, clams etc. Frito Misto di Pesce- perfectly fresh, well prepared, this is another favorite of ours. The sardines, in particular, were memorably good. Dessert we had none, that was already a lot of food for us but we did partake in a delicious caffe coretto con grappa before we wandered off to our apartment sated & so very happy. An aside- unlike many other places in Venice you are safe to go with whatever they suggest without runnng the risk of a truly exorbitant bill. Hands down the best seafood we have had in Italy! The charming little restaurant is off by itself in the back of an alleyway and we came across it walking home from another place. We went back last night and we were in heaven! The grilled octopus appetizer was to die for, large tender pieces served with an amazing sauce. My wife ordered the calamari with strawberries (I know, but it goes really well!) and I got the seafood spaghetti - full of fresh clams, mussels and shrimp in the shells. The calamari was nothing we've had before, not lame breaded O rings, a whole squid cut and grilled to perfection! We ended with a creme brûlée that had a hint of citrus to it.
