Off menu vegan dessert, grilled peaches with granola
    Kathy G.

I don't even know if I can say enough wonderful things about Osteria Forto. I only wished I had visited sooner because this was a top-tier experience for me. I felt like a VIP from the moment I arrived. The service was impeccable! The word that keeps coming to my mind is personable. From being greeted warmly upon my arrival, to our personable server, Hayley, to attentive support staff keeping my water glass full and frequently clearing plates, to the owner, Liz, personally serving our dessert. I really like the way they wrap the leftovers to take home. It's a very thoughtful touch. So my review of the food is a bit different as my dining companion is vegan so when they initially made the reservation some time ago, they requested a vegan menu and wow did Osteria Forto outdo themselves! They created a personal printed seasonal menu for us with the option to do all four courses and we said "yes!" We began with a grilled asparagus salad over greens with roasted beets and a delicious wild mushroom vinaigrette. It was my favorite part of the meal! The second course is considered an appetizer of linguine pasta with blistered tomatoes and tofu in a garlic olive oil. It would be plenty for a lighter appetite. The main entree was a giant stuffed Heirloom tomato with farro, on a bed of polenta that was surrounded by a sauce that contained Brussels sprouts and golden raisins. It was a large serving and I could only eat a third of it. The final touch was a dessert of fresh grilled peaches with house made granola. Such a perfect way to end up a hot Summer day. There is plenty of parking in a shared lot with easy access for disabled folks. The ambiance is upscale but not stuffy. They offer seating in their dining room, at the bar or patio. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Calamari, Old Fig that my husband enjoyed.

This place is doing everything right! Our server Derrick, was outstanding. The manager came by a couple of times and all staff that we came in contact with was top top tier with knowledge and kindness. I had the best espresso martini in life. The calamari and arancini was also amazing. We had a party of 5 so we tried several dishes. Everyone loved the veal but the sea bass and the Rigatoni Cardinale dishes were my personal favorites. Perfectly cooked and a great balance of flavors. I also got the Lobster Al Cognac which was also well cooked and flavorful but I probably would'nt order it again. It is pricey but worth it for a fine dining experience. Great wine options. Ambiance is very welcoming, warm and intimate. I'll be back, for sure.

Our first time here and I was admittedly surprised by the elevated nature of the restaurant! We sat at the bar and our server was very helpful. Didn't grab a picture of the Caesar salad, but unfortunately it was underwhelming. The dressing didn't have much flavor and almost tasted a little oily for my liking. I got the rigatoni bolognese, without cream and it was very tasty! My husband had the cavatappi salsiccia which had great flavor and the sausage was not aggressively fennel flavored. For dessert we got the tiramisu, which was a little underwhelming as well. Overall, though, a good experience and we will be back to try other things on the menu.

I am so impressed with Osteria Forto! We had a fantastic dining experience - from the service to the food to the decor - such a great spot in St Charles county. Can't wait to come back and try more on the menu! Tried: eggplant appetizer, truffle fries, Chilean seabass Loved: the eggplant appetizer and sauce were really perfect, and the Chilean Seabass was cooked perfectly with a great risotto. The service was outstanding. Our waitress was so lovely and helpful when ordering.

Our first time here and it was really great experience. We enjoyed the intimate setting that allowed us to have a nice dinner conversation without straining to hear over the rumble of a loud dining room. The service was very solid, and the food was well executed. We started with the delicious bread and olive oil which complimented the Forto Salad. I had the Tortellini Romano and my wife had the Rigatoni Cardinale. The rigatoni was good, with a just mild kick. I am not normally a tortellini person but this dish was off the chart outstanding.

The restaurant is cozy and service was great. My salad with house dressing was bright and quite good. Unfortunately, I found my pasta with Bolognese sauce to be rather bland. Of my 3 dining companions, 2 ordered chicken parmesan that came with roasted potatoes and a vegetable of the day, brussel sprouts. They reported their meals as very good and would order it again. The 3rd had the shrimp scampi, and gave me one. I'd order that next time. There was a seasonal cocktail menu that looked appetizing.

Decided to pop in on a Saturday evening around 6:00 PM with no reservations. The dining room was completely full. We were able to find two seats at the bar. I came in knowing exactly what I wanted so we ordered quickly with the bartender Dan. It didn't take long and our food was. The sea bass was everything I wanted. It was so good and all the flavors meshed together nicely. The service here is top notch. Dan was very attentive and fast. I hate I waited this long to finally check them out but I won't make that mistake again.

We are here on a Saturday evening. We made a reservation and we were seated on the patio which we weren't sure about at first. Service was excellent and the food was delicious! My husband had the forto salad and I had the burrata which was good. Entrees were steak and chicken piccata. I did have an extra side of garlic pasta which was bland. Other than the pasta everything was fantastic!

Excellent! Wow! Arguably the best restaurant in all of St Charles County! Service, food and atmosphere were all top notch! Highly recommend!

Wonderful place tucked into a unassuming strip mall. This has some classic Italian flavor and a good wine list to pair. We had a great time with salad and the eggplant for starters and then the pastas were a fanatic main. No room for dessert at this visit but I will be back for dinner and make sure I have room next time!

Fantastic new Italian spot in Ofallon! Had a reservation tonight and my husband and I were immediately sat. There is a good amount of seating and a lovely bar. There was a big group (10-15 or so) in the back- so I believe they can accommodate larger parties. The inside is beautiful and more upscale. Erin, our waitress, waited on us hand and foot and was an absolute doll. We started with the calamari and Forto salad and both were delicious. The sauce with the calamari is to die for. The portions were more than fair. Complimentary bread and oil come out as well and the bread is warm and fresh- so yum. For entrees we had the chicken parm and subbed a side of cream pasta for the seasonal vegetable it came with (Brussels and potatoes) as well as the chicken cacciatore with the seasonal vegetable. Both came out promptly and were fantastic! Portion sizes were large. The cream pasta was absolutely amazing- super creamy and lots of garlic. We past up dessert because we had to practically wheel ourselves out but will be back as Erin told us everything is homemade! Everything from service, to ambiance, to food and portions were wonderful! Great date night spot. We will be back!

Side of pasta w/tomato basil subbed for vegetable of the day

Nice experience with pretty good food. It is located in a strip center storefront, but once you walk in, the only way you really know is because the windows let you see outside. Workers were helpful, attentive, and efficient. Our server was very nice. The salads were quite good, with a variety of ingredients, including items such as artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, kalamata olives, etc. The wife's chicken piccata, served over mashed potatoes and artichokes was delicious. It came with two boneless chicken breasts, so there was a lot of food. My pork rib chop saltimbocca was similarly large, 14 oz. It was well prepared and about as good as it could be for a pork chop. However, veal or chicken may be a preferred choice - not a knock on the restaurant, just a preference. I subbed the vegetables for a side of pasta with tomato basil sauce. This was the one semi-disappointment. The sauce was sweet but lacking in spice notes.

The restaurant had an impressive, intimate atmosphere thanks to its cozy, small dining area, making it perfect for a date night. Our waitress recommended a Pinot Noir called "Root Cause," which paired wonderfully with our meal. I chose the Penne Sorrentina on her suggestion, and it was delicious. I added shrimp, which was fantastic. The dish is slightly spiced and helps the blend of flavors overall. My date had the Rigatoni Bolognese with meatballs but found it a bit lacking in flavor. The olive oil and vinegar served with the bread were high-quality and very tasty as well. I did not catch the waitresses name but she was delightful and made great conversation. I would return again at some point.

We were seated right away and the service was top notch. Waitress was always attentive. As for the food, well...... we over-ordered for sure because too many things looked good. I went to the restroom and i casually glanced at others patrons' plates. Some were just downright disgusting... Big ole crab legs hanging off the plate! Shrimp stacked so high it would almost fall off the plate. Huge plates! Pitiful i tell ya! I ordered the crawfish/shrimp ettouffee and it was different than any other i've ever had. My wife reminded me the menu says this was cajun food done St Louis style. My meal was great. Excellent flavor. The wife had some Cod and fried shrimp; again... on an over-filled plate. She had to give me a few pieces of it to help her out. My mother-in-law ordered Coconut shrimp, gave each of us a piece to taste and still had 6 BIG coconut shrimp left that she couldn't eat. If you're math-ing this, the plate had Twelve huge coconut shrimp with fries and some grilled corn. Add to all this a side of hush puppies cause my wife loves them and some cajun batter fried pickles for an appetizer, we had a ton of food. We have found a new place to go to. If you haven't tried this place, you should. I will definitely be back.

We were greeted and seated right away, which was a nice start to the evening. This was our first visit to this particular location, although we've dined a few times over the years at their Creve Coeur restaurant. Our server was also tending bar that evening. He was polite and attentive, although a bit soft-spoken, which made him a little difficult to hear at times in the busy restaurant. We started with drinks--my wife ordered her usual glass of Chardonnay, and I went with a Corona. For dinner, my wife chose the blackened red snapper tacos with green beans and beans and rice, while I ordered the seaside combo with cod and shrimp, served with green beans and potato wedges. Our food arrived in about 25 minutes, and everything tasted very good. My wife especially kept talking about how flavorful the red snapper tacos were. The seafood tasted fresh, and the sides complemented the meals nicely. Overall, both the service and food made for a very enjoyable evening. The only downside was the price, as the dishes are definitely on the higher side. Still, with seafood being shipped in from the coast/gulf, that's somewhat understandable. All in all, it was a good dining experience, and we'd consider coming back again for another date night.

My husband and I had dinner there last night for a special occasion. We were immediately a little freaked out by a male waiter who appeared to be bouncing off the walls, as if he was on crack. At one point, he almost fell into our table, and all I could think was, "please, please, don't let this be our waiter." Guess what. He was. He never introduced himself, but he acted like he thought he was onstage at a comedy club. He was just getting a massive kick out of what he apparently thinks is a personality, but all I could think is that this place clearly doesn't test for drugs. Since we were celebrating an occasion, we asked to start with a bottle of Chardonnay. After an unacceptable wait time, he brought me a single glass of Chardonnay and loudly declared it, "a generous pour." I had to remind him that we had ordered a bottle. Despite the fact that he never once introduced himself, we were able to learn his name from our check when he brought it, and his manager and coworkers will know exactly who he is from my description. Brother, I am not going to divulge your name here, but please call someone. Get some help. Please. He has what sounds to me to be a strong southern accent. I'm from Alabama, and I felt like I was back home, in the worst possible way. He has no concept of how to be a waiter, but he sure is impressed with himself and his schtick. Think Jeff Foxworthy - "you might be a redneck" - but without any of the charm. He's just loud, obnoxious, and incompetent. He practically hangs from the chandeliers. Again, we were celebrating a special occasion, and our waiter (let's call him M) eventually did figure out how to bring us a bottle of wine - which tasted off, with a vague aftertaste of olives, of all things. Then he dashed off, because there were clearly customers there who were far more important than us. He had ZERO interest in providing us service. He was hyperfocused on the large table that they were anticipating - clearly someone was having a party. That doesn't mean that my husband and I didn't deserve basic service. We were celebrating something too. We just weren't quite so ostentatious about it. I ordered the seafood ravioli, and my husband ordered spaghetti with one meatball. Neither meal came with a salad, but M seemed to desperately want my husband to have one, so he finally said, "fine, bring me the salad." Again, the wait time was downright silly, but M eventually brought him the salad, and then acted as if he had screwed up by not also bringing me a salad plate (I hadn't asked for one and didn't want one). According to my husband, the salad that nobody wanted (and that we had to pay extra for) was edible, but nothing special. Finally, our entrees came. The menu described the seafood ravioli as "Large ravioli noodles filled with lobster, shrimp, and scallops, served in a rich, creamy sauce with mushrooms, clams, and garlic." Sure, if you say so. What I actually got was CHEESE ravioli in a cream sauce that somehow managed to be both bland and overwhelming - quite a feat! The cheese smell was so strong it was nauseating. I did manage to find a few clams in the sauce, but it was nothing like what the menu had promised, and there wasn't even the slightest hint of seafood in the ravioli stuffing. If lobster, shrimp, or scallops were involved, I saw no sign of it. The few clams I managed to find in the sauce were the only hint that this was supposed to be a seafood dish. It was quite some time before M bothered to acknowledge us again, so when he finally did check on us, I explained that my dish was inedible. His demeanor changed completely, and from then on, he barely acknowledged us, and when he did, he was rude. He didn't apologize for the bad food. He didn't ask if I'd like anything else. He just walked away with my barely-touched food, clearly pissed, and he couldn't resist making a snide comment about having to ask his manager if he could take it off the bill, because he didn't have the authority to do it on his own (I hadn't asked him to). The manager didn't bother to say anything to us, and M barely spoke to us again. I went home hungry. Some celebration. At this point, I just wanted out of this place, so as soon as my husband finished his food, we were out of there as fast as we could move. What we had hoped would be a pleasant celebratory dinner, ended up being, hands-down, my worst restaurant experience ever, and we will NEVER be back.
