It was only 3 in the afternoon A few tables music at a listening level The waitstaff were very accommodating and attentive polite and friendly. Looking around it looked over staffed but as the 2:30 started to be a 4:00 o'clock lunch the busier it started to get. Still no pressure. Ordered the white bean soup. It was delicious not over powering light broth with just the right amount of veggies The wine from Sicily was just the right paring with the main course which was the veal chop. Came here based on a strong Yelp score and proximity to my hotel. First thing I noticed upon getting to the hostess stand was the B rating, which was not displayed on the exterior window but more hidden inside (pretty sketch). However, looked up the score and apparently they aced their May inspection after being subpar for about 18 months. Decided to give the place a shot and hope for the best. I have to say I am glad we did! The decor / vibe was pretty good, and so was the food. I thought my cacio e pepe was cooked perfectly and had a nice flavor, although my plate had enough oil in it to power a small data center. The starting bread was just okay, but the scallops were also solid. The lobster roll app was also good, but that's more due to the buttered Texas toast. I think the highlight was the Tiramisu dessert. Pricing was confusing, as my pasta dish and the scallops were fine - but all of their fish dishes were insanely priced and the $32 for 2 one bit lobster rolls was silly. The tiramisu at $24 (roughly) seemed like alot but it was plenty for 2 and really was excellent, and I say that as a guy who doesn't normally like it. Service was okay - it just wasn't prompt or intentional but it wasn't bad either. While in the Times Square area we stopped by after going to the theater since they are open until midnight on Friday and Saturday night. Without a reservation they seated us inside. Food: Very good and fresh. I got the frutti di mare and it was delicious. Our party shared a few apps, which were all very good and came out hot and fresh. We also shared a few desserts and my favorite was the tiramisu because it was so moist and rich in flavor. Service: Was just okay. When we first arrived and sat down, we took off our coats and asked the server if they could take our coats for us to the hostess since there was a coat rack/stand up there for guests to put their coats. The server just pointed us in the direction of the hostess stand and told us it was in the front, so we just kept our coats on our chairs and every time they walked behind us, it was on the verge of falling off the chair. Also, they weren't trying to be accommodating to us when one of us had a food allergy to one of the sides that came on the scallops entree, which was very annoying. We had to basically beg them to do a modification just to change a side. The overall attitude of the servers felt very stuck up, like they were too good for us or something - it was very odd. Ambiance: Beautiful decor and dining room. It felt fancy, but not overly fancy. The tables chairs behind my seat kept pushing into my chair so it felt uncomfortable because it felt like I had no space behind me to move. There was barely any room for the servers to walk behind me. I was lucky enough to get a same day reservation, even though the restaurant looked completely full when we arrived. From start to finish, the experience was excellent. Every staff member we interacted with, from the host to the bussers to our server, was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The food was outstanding. I could not decide between the risotto and the bolognese, so I ended up ordering both and was so glad I did. My boyfriend ordered the scallops, and for appetizers we shared the eggplant parmigiana. Every dish came out beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. There was not a single miss. The ambiance was dimly lit and very intimate. It did get a little loud as the night went on, but it honestly did not bother us and added to the lively energy of the room. It is on the pricier side. For two of us, with two glasses of wine and two double shots of tequila, our total came out to about $400 after tax and tip. A beautiful restaurant for a special occasion. We visited Osteria La Baia to celebrate our wedding anniversary while in Manhattan. We were seated in the back of the room in a quiet corner. I ordered a cucumber spritz and my wife a glass of Sancerre. Both were lovely. We each started with salads that were very fresh and tasty. My wife ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and I ordered the Lobster Fettuccini. Service was polite and refined. My wife was thrilled with her fish. Saying it might be the best she has ever had! The lobster pasta was good. Nice pieces of Lobster in a red sauce. I found the red sauce a bit overpowering of the flavor of the lobster. The sweetness was lost. The pasta was well cooked but I ended up eating half and then picked through for the remaining lobster. We decided to share a slice of their chocolate caramel mousse tart. It arrived with a bonus from the kitchen of a piece of the house panna cotta. The mousse tart was sensational - rich and creamy with a bit of crunch! We are not fans of panna cotta nor flan due to the texture. We did try a bite each and nevertheless returned to the mousse. Absolutely incredible. I ordered the lobster fettuccine, and it was one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. The lobster was tender, the sauce was rich and flavorful, and the pasta was perfectly cooked. I didn't order a mixed drink, but the drinks they put out looked of very high quality, The food was not as thrilling as I had hoped. For a starter, I had the roasted octupus. It was not the most tender octupus I've had, and it is served with quite a few fingerling potatoes, which lacked seasoning and ultimately pulled the rest of the dish down. The capers were a great addition, however, and gave the dish a much needed acidic note. As for the entree, I had the pappardelle alla bolognes. My favorite was the tuna tartare with the eggplant a close second, but all three dishes were delicious. We then each ordered our own entree and two sides for the table. I ordered the Cacio e Pepe and I all but licked the plate. It was full of flavor, not too heavy, and definitely coated your whole palate with yumminess. The Brussel sprouts were some of my favorite Brussel sprouts ever. The desserts were a lovely ending to a stupendous meal, we had a crème brûlée and an olive oil cake both of which were the sweetness that we needed without being too sweet. The beau and I chose this place for a pre-concert event due to its proximity to the venue. Typical midtown pricing jumps out at you at first glance of the menu but the dishes sound great. Our server was friendly but was upselling us which of course we fell for. The Veal Osso Buco special was good but not $70 good given the size of the portion. The accompanying pasta was too rich for the dish and overwhelmed the delicate flavors of the meat. We also had their rigatoni with burrata which was very nice but nothing extraordinary. I chose Osteria La Baia to celebrate my birthday with my family. The restaurant is located at midtown of Manhattan New York. You may take subway and it's easy to find. There may not have many parking spaces around so if you drive, you may need to park on the street or few blocks away. Nick was careful with taking orders for all of us as soon as I notified him with my dietary restrictions gluten and diary free. Nick could be new to the job so his knowledge and service could be improved. However, Nick is humble and passionate to make efforts to improve his service for us at the time of our visit. The flounder was baked but not dry at all. It came with Olive oil, Italian herb sauce with a touch of lemon taste. I had to say that I was not impressed by the flounder fish because of the bones. I enjoyed the beet salad with red sauce. It tasted so refreshing as an Appetizer. I had to say that the Russell spouts could bake a little shorter time because it tasted a little too roasted and burnt. I enjoyed the pomegranate seeds on top that redeemed the overly roasted and burning tastes. We ordered the classic Osteria La Baia Tiramisu cake on a glass with fresh strawberries, blue berries, blackberries and coffee powder to taste. The Tiramisu tasted amazing, creamy, not too sweet, milky with cheesy tastes that melted in mouth. I would say the highlight is my birthday special raspberry sorbet. The dinner was very good. The vibes are New Yorkish-Italian. We started with the octopus -- it was tender, not rubbery in texture, great credit to the chef. My husband ordered the ribeye medium-rare; it was very good, close to perfection. I had the Faroe Islands salmon, which was quite neutral in flavor and looked very pinkish, like farm-raised salmon. This was such a disappointment. We may have visited on an off night but there were multiple issues we faced. I chose this place because hubs wanted Italian, it was super close to our hotel, and it was rated 5 stars on Yelp. The first impression was great. Originally, we were planning on ordering a bottle of wine, even though the wines were insanely overpriced. I am not sure what made me change my mind but I suggested I order a glass of wine and hubs order beer, to which he agreed. I am glad I decided on that. I also ordered sparkling water, to which I was charged for. Very rarely have I been offered sparkling and charged for it. Fine. I ordered the Rigatoni with Vodka sauce and Caesar salad. Hubs ordered the lasagna. The salad arrives and it has butter or Bibb lettuce!!! I have never seen this! I asked for an extra side of dressing, to which there was no dressing at all on the salad so the side of dressing was the only dressing. We must have waited a good 25 minutes until our entrees arrived. My pasta was absolutely awful. It was barely al dente and really had no flavor. I think the lasagna did not taste gourmet; more like a local pizza place style. The portions also were not big. We finished everything on our plates. Not once did any staff stop by our table and check on us after dropping off the entrees. All the negative factors just kept piling on and then I notice a server pouring beer from a bottle into a glass at a table nearby. So my husband's beer was brought to the table already in the glass and we assumed it was draft. Once we witnessed our neighboring table being served like that, we noticed there were no taps. Luckily I had an app where I can pay the tab and save money so that is what I did so I didn't have to wait another 20 minutes to pay. My sugar was dropping so I grabbed the remainder of sparkling water and left after paying in the app. Our bill was $150 and even though prices are increasing everywhere, I was expecting our bill to be around $100. 2 beers, 1 glass of wine, sparkling water, a salad, and 2 pasta entrees.
