We also shared the eggplant dish: Involtini: eggplant rolls in parmigiano sauce with basil. YUMMMM! A few of enjoyed the asparagus mushroom soup, which was so good! For the main course we ordered the cacio e pepe which is presented to the table and mixed in an actual cheese wheel/bowl! This dish is so simple, yet so flavorful and rich! I really wanted to like this restaurant, especially since I come to this area regularly for my doctor's appointments. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be returning. We spent $155.85 before tip (about $186 total with tip), so I expected an excellent lunch experience. The positives: the arugula salad was fresh, the calamari was well prepared, and I appreciated that they served San Benedetto mineral water, which is a brand I've enjoyed for years. The disappointment was the $35 cacio e pepe. It was excessively salty, and by the end of the meal the sauce pooled at the bottom of the plate and was even saltier. Cacio e pepe is a simple, classic Italian dish, so getting the seasoning right is essential. At this price point, I expected much better execution. For someone lived in Europe for over three years and been to Italy so many times, this was subpar. Parking was also less convenient than I would have liked, which added to the overall experience. Back of the building or street parking. Back of the building is tight spots. The service was good, and I tipped accordingly because my issue was with the food, not the staff. Quiet for lunch time. Overall, while there were some bright spots, the main course didn't justify the price. With so many dining options in the area, I don't see myself coming back. read more

So, this spot really deserves a 5. Gus, who I believe is the owner, was super accommodating and incredibly helpful. It is a beautiful, quality space. Gus presented a number of specials. I wish that he had recommended a number of favorites for that restaurant as it was our first time. I tried the pasta special, which while brilliantly prepared, was not really to my taste. I photographed that dish and the dish my cousin had which was halibut. Incredibly well presented. Again she was not thrilled with the dish although it was very good. On the upside the calamari was a knockout, the bread was incredible, the dessert was completely off the hook, a chocolate dish that's at the top of the dessert menu. Definitely, try this place. But be sure to inquire what's on the menu that's among the favorites if it's your first visit. read more

Love the environment, it's a small cozy bistro setting with outdoor and indoor seating. We got seated inside and you can view the open kitchen, venting is quite good you don't really get bothered by the grease from the kitchen. We ordered: Involtini (6-7/10): Eggplant rolls with tomato and parmigiano sauce, basil recommended by the server, not a fan of eggplant dish usually but the sauce and texture is quite good. Roasted on the outside with soft stuffing. It's very light dish, great if you've a meat entree. Wish I've tried the meatball instead. Gnocchi Di Burrata (7.5/10): very creamy, truffle sauce. This dish gets heavy, but it's very rich and thick. Gnocchi texture is very nice too, paired with zucchini. I rarely see large gnocchi like this, very chewy and soft. Cacio e pepe (7/10): perfectly al-Dante, love the presentation of putting the freshly cooked pasta onto the cheese wheel. Seasoned with extra black pepper, very simple dish and did it the right way. Personally, I prefer to have a meat entree to share on the side if I'm having this pasta because it could be bland and straight forward. Simple but lack of depth. Lasagna (7.5/10): decent lasagna, love the baked spinach chips on the side that balances out the heaviness from the cheese. It's chef's special, not overly cheesy. Good, nothing wow. Ice cream (coconut/ mango/ lemon): standard Service: good, love the way how they offer a bag hook for our takeout. Detailed focus, and warm hospitality. Last Friday, I had a hankering to try Osteria Vera: I am so glad I hankered! The interior is PERFECTLY lit. It has the intimacy that a restaurant like this needs. The atmosphere is just what was needed after a hectic morning. I also love the fact that you could watch the process of the cooking. But the service and ambiance was a 2-minus. Our major problem was the waitress, who: didn't mention the specials until we asked about them; was less than friendly; brought the cocktails late; brought our bottle of wine even later (after we were pretty much already done with our appetizers); and never checked back during the meal to see if things were okay or we wanted anything else. She did materialize after the meal to ask if we wanted dessert, but at that point we'd had enough. To add to all this, the restaurant was incredibly noisy -- we had to raise our voice in order to converse. Their prices were decent, considering the westside location, but I really can't see us goi g back there. read more

The food overall was good, but we both felt everything on the menu was slightly overpriced and nothing felt out of this world enough for us to potentially come back. The burrata with beets was really good - I'm not sure what I expected, but I'm not typically one to just eat beets, but they were super flavorful. The paccheri was cooked perfectly al dente and I really appreciated that the sauce had the seafood flavor infused/worked into the sauce. So many tomato based seafood pastas miss the mark by just throwing seafood into the dish and not incorporating it into the sauce, which wasn't the case here. The cacio pepe was really good!! Although my fiance found it to be a little salty. The pasta was cooked perfectly as well for this dish. The service was good - I can't remember our waiter's name but he was super friendly. We ended up sitting at the tiny bar, where the bartender was probably not thrilled that he couldn't chat with his buddy and had to overhear our girly chatter. Typical Brentwood vibe - mostly older folks. My friend and I are in our early 40s and felt very young :-) Eggplant starter and lemon pasta were both excellent. Gnocchi was a letdown - needed more flavor to balance out the burrata. Small pours of wine so you're better off going for the bottle. We ordered the lobster pasta dish. It actually was very good, and the taste was very good. However, we were three guys, and none of us were satisfied with the portion. I recognize that lobster is not cheap and that they had to limit the portion size, but honestly, I probably could've eaten three of them. As I said, the dish itself was good, but the others in my party were also a bit disappointed in the quantity of portions served. Out of six people, not one person needed to have a takeout container for food to take home. Everyone cleared their plate, but felt that they could have eaten more. So my suggestion would be to raise your prices if you need to, but serve enough so that the average person will feel satisfied after finishing their meal. Nobody wants to go home feeling like they didn't eat enough at a restaurant. read more

My husband and I came here with two friends on a Friday night with a reservation I'd made about a week before coming. I'd heard Osteria Vera was a newly opened Italian restaurant in Brentwood on a website like Eater. Street parking is not the easiest to find in this neighborhood but doable. We got here a bit before our reservation time and were seated immediately. The interior of the restaurant is nice, but with walls of exposed brick, it feels like an East Coast restaurant rather than LA. The menu here contains simple and classic Italian food. We ordered a range of appetizers to share, including crispy brussels sprouts, eggplant rollatini, and calamari, all of which were delicious. For mains, my husband had the lobster paccheri while I had the linguine al limone. I really enjoyed both, but liked the texture of the paccheri, which was more al dente. Would recommend this place if you're looking for a solid Italian meal on the west side. read more
