I'm from Italy and it was a fantastic experience! The pasta was incredible -- in my opinion, the pasta menu is the absolute highlight. It was freshly made (you could definitely tell!) and served in great portions. The Fettuccine alla Nerano were amazing, with incredible flavor and texture. Back in Italy, pasta with clams is my favorite dish, so I was super excited to order it since it's not easy to find in the US. It was done just right -- really great! The seafood was fresh and high quality. The only minor detail is that the clams were fresh and local, likely Pacific clams, which have a less intense, briny flavor compared to the Mediterranean vongole veraci that give off that rich sea aroma. But hey, we're in Los Angeles, so you naturally adapt to local ingredients. The Caprese appetizer was good, though I wished the portion had been a bit larger. Dessert was delicious, especially the zuppa inglese gelato -- the flavor took me straight back to Italy! Exceptional staff, too: I was pregnant and needed a shaded or air-conditioned spot, and the hostess went out of her way to find a table that suited my needs. Maybe you get curious about this place because there's a lot of people when you walk by during brunch time and the menu looks decent. Plus it's next to the LA Central Library and the garden. So you decide to go. That's what happened to me. But I wouldn't go back. The interior bar area had a book-themed decor. I liked the decor and vibe. But the food was bland and uninspiring. I loved the stacks of books by the bar and especially the window where you can watch the fresh pasta being made--it definitely adds to the experience. The pasta itself was just okay for me. It looked beautiful and was fresh, but flavor-wise I was expecting a little more. Parking was also a bit of a challenge since I didn't know where to go at first. So glad I chose to make reservations to dine at Settecento. Made reservation on Saturday for 6 before I saw their happy hour ends at 6 so dialed it back to 5 to bring in 2 friends for their birthdays who thought we were coming in to celebrate something else :) We basically ordered everything off the happy hour menu. I got the okura old fashioned because that's what they're known for, and wanted to see how this differs from a regular old fashioned. Was smooth but could have been a tad stronger. All in all glad we cake here instead of a pretentious spot with a long wait. This place was great, chill vibes walking distance from hotel and is enjoyed by locals. Settecento was such a great spot for a girls' night! The atmosphere was cute and relaxing, and we never felt rushed, which made it perfect for sitting, chatting, and enjoying the evening. My boyfriend and I came for happy hour and got the Margherita pizza, Polpette (meatballs, not pictured), and the pepata di cozze (mussels). We also got two glasses of wine, a beer and an IPA. Food was pretty good, nothing insane that really stood out to me but it was definitely a solid meal. Ambiance is incredible, I drove by this spot once a couple weeks ago and immediately made plans to go the following week. Very pretty patio and a very fun bar design. I had plans to head to Cal Plaza, so we decided to make reservations and grab something to eat. First, let me say that this place is really nice. The atmosphere is welcoming, comfortable, and just has a great vibe. Everyone who worked there was friendly, down to earth, and genuinely pleasant. I always appreciate servers who are, as I like to put it, just really cool. As for the food, we ordered a salad and a Margherita pizza, and I have to say, both were excellent. The salad was fresh and flavorful, and the dressing made it really stand out. The Margherita pizza was absolutely delicious, and it paired perfectly with a couple of drinks. We really enjoyed ourselves. The outdoor dining area is especially cool. For me, it was a little surreal because I worked in downtown for many years and passed this location almost every day. I remember when it was a completely different restaurant, so sitting there brought back a lot of memories. Whoever came up with the idea for the current concept did an outstanding job. The whole place just feels inviting and relaxed. We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and made reservations in advance for the beautiful outdoor patio so our pups could join us. Our group of seven enjoyed a relaxing meal outside, sharing several pizzas while each ordering our own entrée. I went with the Caprese focaccia sandwich since I wanted something lighter that day. It came with a side of crispy fries that paired with the sandwich. My husband ordered the Bolognese and said it was flavorful. For the table, we shared three pizzas: the Funghi, the Truffle Tartufo, and the Carbonara. I expected the truffle pizza to be my favorite, but surprisingly, the Carbonara won me over. The combination of eggs, cheese, and guanciale was delicious. Our table was outside perched on a grassy knoll with a view of the downtown city scape....it set the tone for a beautiful ambiance although our large table was positioned at a slant which made our family style meals awkward to reach. Our server was particularly helpful in our decision to get the steak to share. It was delicious and cooked perfectly. It was definitely a highlight to our meal that will likely encourage us to return. We really enjoyed the experience here but be aware that most of their dining tables for parties greater than 2 are outdoors. (The smaller tables are in the bar area inside.) Stoped by with family for a late afternoon lunch after my niece's graduation. It was 2pm so we had the option of the pre-fix lunch menu or the happy hour menu which makes for better options for those who don't want a full meal (app and main). There were definitely highs and lows here. Pro: setting/scenery, service, pizza, caprese salad, focaccia and parking ($6 with validation) in the underground parking facility. It's a beautiful restaurant with lots of greenery in the middle of downtown. Greg was an awesome server and their bread based dishes were amazing. Pizza was by far the favorite across our group. Needs improvement: soup to the day was cream of mushroom. Lacked flavor and depth. Tasted a little flat. Bolognese and vongole had the same profile, lacking flavor and depth. The table felt the same way with some of the other dishes and surmised maybe this was on purpose to accommodate the general public and broader tastes of visitors and travelers that frequent downtown. Shredded parm and chili flakes helped a bit. Good thing we got full on bread and the pizzas we ordered for the table :) All in all we agreed it was a nice experience and would return, but will stick with the dishes we enjoyed. Celebrating Mother's Day here. We had dinner reservation (highly recommend). Undergroung paid parking is available, otherwise there is street parking. I love the ambiance the minute I entered the restaurant. It is very aesthetic, spacious, and clean. We sat outside and had a great view of the Bonaventure Building. The outside has lots of heat lamps, which was perfect for the cold evening. Our pastas were very delicious. It was perfectly portioned for one person. It was busy TV NOT SHOWING DODGER GAME ooof very bad news bears ! Service was efficient & hospitable ( mind you we sat at the bar) We unfortunately missed happy hour so ordered off the full menu & in my opinion the full dinner menu on a Thursday night in the spring time is extremely limited So we ordered a salmon appetizer, a burrata appetizer & a meat pasta entrée to share. I had a tequila based cocktail. He had a bourbon or whiskey based cocktail. (Not stiff btw) The food was not disgusting. But it was not life changing & portions are tiny ! The views are breathtaking like if you are a 17 or 20 year-old celebrating your birthday, or a tourist; it's very romantic and just beautiful. But I have worked in downtown for many many years and have seen transformations and I am immune kinda, to the views, like not in a bad way, but ive just been exposed to this so long, in other words, if a first date brought me here, it wouldn't impress me. AnyWho, in addition to the interior seating & the bar seating, the patio seating is vast & spacious, & in my personal opinion, a walk from the bar in other words, the servers are racking in a minimum of 15,000 steps a shift (which I'm jealous of by the way), but my point is the patio is humongous & therefore, if you choose to sit outside, you may wait a long time for your items, check, etc. & service possibly. So the restrooms have single private stalls, but the actual sink to wash your hands is open for both sexes. Upon leaving before 8 PM, it got really busy. Yes I will return if the situation calls for it and yes, I will recommend. But I absolutely will not make it a point or go out of my way to return. read more

Food is really good. My pizza had a wonderful textured crust, and held stable when picked up. My wife and our niece loved their food as well. Our main gripe was service. We were walk ins and were told there was a table but that there was a max time of 90 min. We said no problem as we had a concert to go to. After being seated, the two waitresses walked around the patio for quite some time and then we watched as they visibly noticed us and realized neither had attended. Our server came over and apologized, but her attentiveness was really lackluster. We ended up leaving after getting validated and still had to pay $6 to park below because we were seated for a total time of just over 2 hours. Maybe this is a one off, and we'd consider giving it another shot for the food, but yeesh. One of the memorable (and not in a good way) service experiences. read more

Anyway, Parking in this area is very hard to find, but it's what you would expect for downtown L. A. We got the calamari and the eggplant to start. calamari did not have much flavor at all. And the eggplant was pretty decent, but also just okay. we ordered a lot of variety from the menu. I hate to say this, but the service was just okay. The servers were not personable at all, and we didn't even really know who was our server. We had so many different people come to our table. The only thing that I would say that was consistent and good were the drinks? They had a good variety and selection of wines and beers. My Mushroom Pizza, which I heard, was something that they were really good at, was not great. It was burnt on the bottom, and there was literally someone in our party Who never got her meal. I guess they forgot to put it in. And as we were of pretty much finished eating hers came out.. (brazino). Attended the Night at the Library birthday celebration at the L.A. library and saw Settecento steps away from the entrance. We made a reservation, while inside the event for 8:30 pm. The hostess at the stand that night was all over the place and people were complaining asking where she went and no one knew, but we all noticed once a line began to build, she would disappear. I would recommend making a reservation just so you have a solid place in line and so you're at least ready to be seated. Angel our server was fun! We loved his energy, it wasn't over the top and it was very mellow, but also he was on top of everything and checked in with us and gave us great suggestions for drinks, appetizers, entrees. I will say, this place looks fancy and expensive and also a dream. The outdoor seating is like you're eating in a countryside in Europe and not in Downtown Los Angeles. We sat outside and our table featured a sofa as one of the seating options. We had the best girl dinner and were able to catch up over drinks and food and Candlelight and I didn't want to leave. I had the pizza, my sister had the filet mignon and one of us had the pasta . The calimari was good as the starter and they also had house bread which was so good. The Settecento pizza was my favorite and their pizzas are delicious, light, airy, full of flavor. My sister said her filet was ok but the mushroom sauce was delicious. For dessert, I believe we ordered the Tortino and the Tiramisu and both were great but the Tortino was a little better. I ordered the Toki Pona to drink and couldn't finish it but it was very good. Its simple: $25 pre-fixe lunch menu. I have been scouring high and low for lunch pre-fixes and I am so happy that I came across Settecento. To put it easily, you pick an appetizer and an entree (between pizza and pasta. If you want their premium items (with truffle) it's an extra $10 or so. The ambiance was so peaceful, which makes it a bit of an odd location to be in the middle of the FIDI in Los Angeles. I mean it makes sense because all the worker bees go there for lunch, but I could see them having a second location somewhere more scenic where people would still flock to. The pasta was house made and springy and with the clams and white wine sauce, it was a solid dish. But it is a smaller portion. If you really want to get a bang for your buck, I would go with the pizza, its a full 10ish inches. read more

We were staying at the Westin Bonaventure hotel across the street and stumbled across Settecento when we went to the library. Very aesthetic, cute outdoor seating and book decor inside. It was sort-of hard to find the entrance. We walked around the exterior (there's a lot of outdoor seating), completing maybe 200 degrees until we found how to get in. It was very lively with large French doors open between the indoor and outdoor seating. The service was very attentive and fast. However our table for three was very small for our party of 3 and I'm not sure how 4 people would have eaten dinner at such a small table. Our server was nice but greeted us with and odd greeting about how nice we all smelled. Apparently we were a "great smelling table". The food was good. Truly such a beautiful restaurant with violins hanging from the ceiling and bookshelves, which capture the essence of a restaurant in the library gardens. Everything we tried was good, perhaps not something I'd rush back for, but decent for the price and portion. Lots of creativity reflected on the menu. Personally, I wasn't keen on the Lobster Buratta or Sliders. I did like the Bruschetta Trio and Polenta, though. The meatballs were okay. Service wasn't as attentive as we'd like, though we received our items in a reasonable amount of time. We did have to flag down servers on a few occasions for silverware, drink refills, and our bill. This restaurant is indoors and outdoors, just steps away from the library. It can get quite warm when the sun is out, but pretty at night with all of the lights.
