This is such a cool place, entertaining for both kids and adults. It is just 10 minutes drive from the downtown of Solvang. They have good size parking lot and small shop. The fee is 7$ and the food bowl is 1$. It looks smaller from outside but it is huge. They have 125 ostriches and it is not too crowded, at least on a weekend around 11'o clock. They also have Emu and a bunny. The ostriches finishes food pretty fast, so I would suggest taking multiple bowls. read more

Looking for a weekend getaway from the Bay Area? Slovang is such a cute Danish inspired town an hour south of SLO, with the very cool attraction of ostriches! I had such a blast, seeing the free roaming ostriches and emus, and being able to feed them with such a treat. My whole family, ranging from teenagers to the elderly, enjoyed feeding the ostriches and we all had a great time. Admission is seven dollars for adults, and a tray of food is only one dollar. What an amazing experience. This is something it's very low budget but also very cool. For about seven dollars a person you can have the privilege of feeding these amazing dinosaur birds that we call ostriches. You'll love it, your kids will love it . It's a pretty affordable activity. People were trying to get the ostriches to eat out of their bowl but they just weren't interested. I had one ostrich take one peck and then walked away. They are strong so hold onto your bowls tight. The area is large and fairly clean. They allow dogs inside which is cool. There are maybe over 20+ ostriches but they're scattered throughout. Restroom available upon entering but it's two porta potties. They have a few photo ops spots available with nice murals. Small gift shop in the front and entrance is on the side. They have press pennies for any collectors out there and they do sell ostrich eggs and feathers. They have a huge parking lot but gets full fast so a few cars are parked on the side of the road. We LOVED Ostrichland! We visited on Dec. 22 Sunday, the week many people have off so I have a feeling it was extra crowded. The parking lot was starting to fill up at 10am. We got one of the last remaining spots. When I asked to buy 3 food pans, one for each of us, she said we could just buy 1 because they ate a lot the prior day, but suggested we can come back to buy more later. When trying to feed the ostriches and emus, they didn't seem too hungry. The birds really did get their fill of food already from the folks who arrived at 9am, plus the day before. So, come early if you want to feed them. We couldn't even get the birds to finish the one pan of food we had during the hour we were there. It was a lot of fun feeding both the ostriches and emus, when there was one hungry enough to come to you. They peck rapidly at the food, sometimes trying to peck your hand or even just the air or the food pellets left on the fence. There's a lot of fallen pellets on the ground. One pecked at my hand and my cell phone. It didn't hurt at all. Maybe I was just lucky. Haha, we saw a free roaming egg just sitting on the ground in the main ostrich area! Somehow we felt lucky to see this. And sometimes the ostriches would open up their wings while running. They looked like birdie ballerinas! Enjoy the scenery and expanse of the farm. It seems there's plenty of space. The adult ostriches can roam a wide area, while the younger ostriches and the emus have a fenced in area. Upon leaving at 11am, there was a lot of traffic on the road and a line of cars trying to park. The parking lot was like a zoo. I honestly think this place is pretty genius because I would have never thought anyone would even think that showing off ostriches would be a business. For a tiny fee you get a day pass to see the giant birds roam around in a giant barren land. Even better is that for $1, you get to do free labor by feeding the ostriches and emus one pan of food! (Genius) Honestly, I enjoyed feeding these giant birds slam their beaks into the pan, only for many of the feed to fly out and hit the ground then watch the squirrels capitalize on sweeping the free food off the floor. They still had the business open even though it was raining which was great because we only stopped by for this experience while driving back up north. So glad we came! Happened to drive by this place on our way to Morro Bay and decided to pull in. So worth the pit stop! $7 admission and $1 for each feeding bowl. The bird are EAGER to be fed. At first it was a little intimidating because they come at you quick and strong but if you follow the guideline they give you, its all good. Its a quick stop 20-30 minutes to feed, walk around to see the birds, and take photos. Beware that it is a bit smelly and the bathroom situation is just a portapotty. On the way down, we passed it again and it was definitely way busier but maybe the crowd was due to it being a holiday weekend. OstrichLand USA was hands down one of the funnest experiences during my trip to Solvang! I mean, I never would have guessed I'd have the opportunity to feed live Ostriches and Emus! It was a blast. My family and I arrived around 10:30am on a Sunday and the animals were still hungry. I've seen other reviews stating if you arrive later or on a busy day they might not let you feed the animals so make sure to get there early! Ostrichland is a huge piece of property, it's nice knowing the animals have a large area to roam around on and enjoy their lives. There's ample parking too so you shouldn't have to worry about that. We walked around their little gift shop before going in. There's a lot of cute little purses, clothes, stuffed animals etc for purchase. And they have a penny machine outside for the collectors out there! Admission to Ostrichland was $7/adult or $5/military. And kids 12 and under are $3. Then it's $1 per bowl of food. Their pricing for admission and feed is so affordable and great for large families or groups that want to visit. I'm happy they're not charging an arm & leg because being in social they honestly can but I appreciate that they keep their pricing low so people can enjoy the experience without it burning a hole in their wallet! Now, the Ostrichs are HUGE! I really didn't expect them to be so big and tall, they're actually quite intimidating. I'd actually be scared if it weren't for the gates that separate guests from the animals. The Emus are probably more kid friendly when it comes to feeding them. They're not as forceful when eating out of the bowls whereas the Ostrichs can really peck hard! You have plenty of options to choose from as far as where you want to feed them. They have a bunch of different areas to see the Ostrichs and Emus so everyone should have a chance to get some cute pictures with them. What a fun spot! I had a trip to Solvang planned and wasn't too sure what I was going to do, randomly came across Ostrichland USA on Yelp and am so happy I did. Just about a 5 minute drive from the heart of downtown Solvang, this spot is super accessible and quick to get to. Entrance was $7 per adult and you could purchase buckets of feed for $1. At only $16 for about 30 minutes to an hour of entertainment for two people was not bad at all! Few things to note- This place is much bigger than it looks! Be sure to save some feed for the ostriches and emus in the back. We didn't realize just how large it was until we already gave most of the food out. The ostriches in the front seem to be more aggressive and hungry than the ones in the back. If you're a little scared of feeding them, head over to the emus or the ostriches towards the back for a more gentle experience. They will warn you to hold onto the pan holding the food bowl with two hands...make sure you listen because some of the ostriches will try to yank it out of your hand! read more

I didn't think of visiting at all until...I don't know I was in the mood to go see some ostriches/see what the fuss was all about. So, after all that-it was ok. My first visit was a little later in the day and I was warned/told that the birds might not be hungry. Fair enough, taken under consideration and ignored. Fortunately, there were still some birds hungry/curious enough to walk up, ostriches and emus both. For a place on such a large plot of land the footprint is pretty small. It's a good thing because it allows the birds to roam more. There are couple of big paddocks but only a few platforms. It honestly doesn't take too long. Don't worry about coming early for the 9am slot! We arrived at 8:40am (they recommend being 15 minutes early) and the gates was closed, no one there. The first staff didn't arrive until 8:55am. All 9am goers started streaming in at 9-9:10am. As for the service, they aren't here to hold your hand but you don't need them to. If you want to be sweet talked by staff who are there to sell you a low cost ticket and $1 feed food, reconsider your expectations. As for the smell and feeding experience, don't come here if you're overly sensitive and can't handle big birds on a farm. These are 200-300 pound birds so yes they're a little aggressive when they peck your food. They're animals, there are a lot of them, the smell is expected. Go to a zoo if you can't stand the smell. Fun Ostrichland is a really neat little farm right down the road from Solvang proper. I've passed by it a million times, never once giving it a second thought. Now with two young kids, I desperately search for a fun roadside distraction that will get me out of the car and let them get some energy out. Ostrichland delivered. First, this is a quick stop. The feeding area isn't very large- you can probably come and go in 20 mins. If it's a crowded weekend, that's a different story. Oh and by the way, avoid the crowded weekends if you can. I wouldn't recommend getting too many food bowls. They have enough food in them and multiple people can share the fun. The more people feed them, the less they want to eat, obviously.
