Aside from working the streets of Solvang, Ostrichland was our main attraction on our trip. We got up and arrived right at opening and there were lots of people in line already. Admission seems a bit pricey for what you're getting but I guess they have to make money somehow. We walked around and fed the ostrich's and emus. They were scary up close lol but weren't too aggressive. Just hold on tight to those feeding pans! We spent less than 30 mins walking around and feeding the animals. It's not a very big space. I probably wouldn't go again but it was a very unique experience and I'm glad we do go. read more

C'mon, ya'll. Bring the kids, grab a couple large feeding bowls for $5, and feed the ever-so-hungry ostriches that run freely in the open land! They are protected and fenced in, protecting us, and protecting them. Get your cameras ready because this is fun and hilarious! Wear comfortable shoes since you'll be walking in the dirt. Entrance fee is about $7. This place is a perfect stop before Solvang. You'll probably hang out here no more than 45 min, unless you have young ones that will keep you there. Went here for the first time. We arrived in the early morning on the way to Solvang. Glad we did as when we were leaving the parking lot was starting to get very full compared to only 5-6 cars when we arrived. Everyone working there were super nice greeting us we came in. It is very cool to see both ostriches and emus in person. We paid the $1 for the feed bowl. Be careful as the ostriches are very hungry and hold tightly the feeding bowl as it can be dropped accidently when the birds are "pecking" at the bowl feed. I'm not gonna lie... the idea of coming here was cool but the thought of actually getting close and feeding the ostriches was kind of scary lol. Those guys are fast and tall and could easily peck our eyes out!!! But-- once I got over the negative thoughts in my head and worked up the courage to get close enough... it's really a cool, fun experience. On top of that, the price to do this was not bad whatsoever! I think it was $7 a person? There were sooo many ostriches, we didn't even realize there were more further down. We used up all our feed in the front. There was one ostrich in particular that was quite the bully... coming in hot, trying to eat out of every bowl and not leaving any for the others! Had to watch out for that one lol. Once you move further along back... you'll see some emus in the bunch, as well as some cute little bunnies on the way out! The scenery all around was nice... mountains/hills of green in the back. Very spacious lot for the birds to roam "free". There's even a little photo cut-out spot (didn't care for mine so I won't be sharing that lol). I don't remember if there was a time limit or not but we spent a good amount of time there. If you've got kids, I think this is such a fun place you can bring them to. I don't have any just yet, but I know my nieces and nephews would absolutely love this place! Must visit while passing through! We had no interest in seeing the rest of Solvang, but this was a fun and quick stop, especially if you have kids. Admission was $17 for 2 adults, 2 kids and 1 food bowl. Takes about had an hour. Reviewers were right about how crowd and time of day reflects how hungry they are. If it's peak times with many guests, they won't be as hungry and staff will tell you the truth. We only bought 1 bowl and managed to find some birds to feed. It's dusty and out in the open so even with mild weather, bring a hat. They had a few misters on but not enough. Gift shop staff let my kids hold the ostrich and emu egg for a pic! This place was quite unusual. Where else can you feed ostriches?! We wouldn't have stopped by had it not been for our plans to go to solvang. Staff was kind and offered free entry for those with notable disabilities since the grounds are too difficult to push wheelchairs on much of the dirt path. Military is also given a discount. Bowls of food were only $1! Thankfully we came in the morning when a majority of the ostriches were hungry. It was quite entertaining to be able to feed the ostriches. Amazing how massive they are. Not as dusty as others claimed, easily able to walk the grounds in my sandals with little dust. Very small place with not much more to do or see. A nice add on to solvang. read more

Ostrichland was a fun excursion and now I could finally take my family. They have lots of lively animals we got the feet emus and ostriches young and old dozens in separate areas. The kids loved it the animals were nibblers and aggressive, however their fencing is designed to limit their strengths so that makes it safe for my kids to feed. They are very hungry and they love interacting with people even though the baby emus are fearless. Worth the price you stay as long as you like we stay for about 45 minutes and it was fun and the kids loved it. Just a reminder, no petting the animals or writing the animals as my son was asking. We walked away with a nice ostrich egg I must say was delicious and extra fluffy please be sure to mix it well to get your good scrambled eggs. read more

Don't skip this kitschy roadside attraction that feels like a total throwback to my childhood. I could hear echos of my dad complaining that we were almost to Solvang and it was silly to stop. It is silly. We fed bowls of pellets to the ostriches and emus. They were magnificent. The folks running the gift shop were friendly and seemed to not take life too seriously. This was a place that I did not know existed until we passed by it on our way to Solvang. I was very excited and intrigued to see an ostrich and an emu up close. It was an easy path to the payment area, and all the instructions on what to do and not do when feeding the animals. It was good that they had a large handled bowl with the food to feed them. Some of the ostriches are more aggressive eaters than others and the emus were quite tam in eating out of the bowl. When you do get to see an ostrich up close, they are beautiful and bigger than what you would think. I have had this place bookmarked for ages and since we were in town, I made sure to make a stop. The experience was amazing. I booked my reservation online for 12pm for three of us and got one dish to feed the ostrich and emu's. Total for my reservation was $23 which is a great deal for the experience. When we got to the place, parking was a bit hectic but we were able to get a parking quick because someone was leaving. Beware, the parking lot is pretty small and when we were leaving there was a line to go in and they blocked it off until someone came out. So get there early. Inside the place was cool. The teens working the front gate checked us in to our reservation flawlessly and gave us our feeding dish. When attempting to feed these amazing animals, make sure to hold the dish handle with two hands. They peck at the dish and you can drop it. The first couple of attempts to feed were a fail but after awhile we were successful. My son enjoyed it and had a huge smile on his face. You definitely get up close and personal with them and can take some amazing photos of the whole thing. So if you are in the area, I highly suggest to stop by this attraction. I've stopped here many times over the years. Truly a gem of an attraction on the Central Coast. For less than $10 you can feed ostriches and emus. They seem very well fed and taken care of too, with lots of space to roam around. Be careful though... they do get rather feisty so pay attention to the sign warnings. Great spot for families! Went in only to buy eggs LOL didn't pet the ostriches but they have the admissions ticketing area OUTSIDE to the side of the gift shop. The farm is wide, petting area seems to be a small section, prices are relatively cheap and gift shop is also smaller. Lots of parking in dirt roads Also the turn in is a middle of the road unprotected left (with turning lane) so beware. The gift shop lad was patient and nice. He nicely explained what they offered. Ostrich eggs ( as available) are $60 and emu eggs are $30. We originally came for ostrich eggs which weren't available and he automatically offered emu eggs which apparently have higher yolk content. The shells are also sold and worth almost as much as the fresh egg itself. They only had 4 emu eggs and said ostrich eggs are more available around april-sept. They were packaged well with bubble wrap and boxed individually w/ instructions and a stick ( but I remember using a drill to open the ostrich egg loool), you could choose what color/egg you wanted but apparently freshness wise were all the same. Its a quick stop for some cheaper fun. They take card! It's 7 min away from solvang so might as well, and you'll go back on the 101 after instead of the turny 154. read more

The entrance fee is $7 per person, and it costs $1 per bowl of food for the ostriches. I suggest arriving early if you really want to feed the birds. I got there a little after 4 p.m., and the ostriches weren't interested in eating. I had to walk to the far end to find two birds that still wanted food. Several people ended up giving their bowls away to others because no birds were eating from them. A lot of food was also thrown on the ground. It seems that with so many visitors, the birds eat non-stop earlier in the day and are full by the afternoon. So, go early if feeding them is important to you. I heard several people got their hands pecked. Some ostriches don't aim well, they just swing their long necks around the bowl. I even wondered if some ostriches might be blind or just have poor eye-beak coordination. Either way, be careful and gentle when feeding them. The ground squirrels seemed happier than the ostriches. We stopped by Ostrich Land USA on our way out of Solvang for about 45 minutes and that was totally enough time to experience it. The fee for admission is reasonable - $7 for adults, $5 seniors, and $3 for children. You can also buy bowls of food to feed them for $1 each. Make sure you hold on to the bowl with both hands -- the ostriches really do try to grab it from you! We enjoyed our time here. There are lots of areas to feed and watch the ostriches, so don't make the mistake of sticking near the entrance - there's plenty more to see! We didn't realize there was so much space and ended up using the food bowl we got way too quickly. There's a lot of space and the birds seem generally happy and well fed - many were completely uninterested in the food we had and walked right on by. There were a few that looked like they had been experiencing some level of stress as their feathers in the back were all gone, but most of them seemed to be segregated in a separate area. It was interesting to see just how massive and prehistoric looking these birds are! There were many delighted kids there when we visited, and I can imagine that this would be a memorable and affordable family outing. What a fun stop on our way to Solvang! We went Monday morning, it was not crowded. Friendly staff & super affordable ($5 adult, $3 kids, $1 bowl of food). The bowls go fast, they are super hungry & eat them so quickly so we ended up getting 4 bowls per person & spent 1 hr there. We fed lots of baby, teen & adult ostriches & emus. It's not a huge but there are so many ostriches and emus. It is super affordable to get for only 7 bucks per adult and 1 dollar for each bucket of food to feed them. Some of the ostriches get aggressive for food but there is clear rules and signage everywhere to hold with two hands and the proper way to do it. There are a few photo ops to get some fun photos and its fairly easy to do the whole thing in a short amount of time. There is also a small store on site selling some ostrich souvenirs and eggs. Ok you can just show up and buy tickets but that takes longer and not guaranteed a spot. Use their website and prebook a time slot for your group. Include a bowl or 2 of food pellets. We booked at 10 am and showed up about 950 to go in. Entrance was very quick. I must stop here up mention they have 3 outhouses at the entrance and they are overflowing with toilet paper, sanitary pads, diapers or whatever so that you can barely fit on the toilet as the debris is stacked to the top. In my entire life I've never seen such a poorly maintained group of outhouses. I checked all 3 and all 3 were overflowing. It's insanitary and gross. How can the owner of this farm just ignore all human decency by not having them serviced? ‍And it was obvious they are making money with the steady stream of crowds. In fact when we left solvang in the afternoon. We drive back by the ostrich farm and saw people parked on the road out front with acutely long line of cars. It would have yo be packed inside. I was really glad I planned ahead to get there in the morning when it's not real crowded. It was cool seeing the Emus who are gentle creatures. The ostrich are very strong and aggressive I thought we got to see and touch an ostrich egg, but there was no location with this. I would suggest some sort of touch station for this. I know the eggs are sturdy. With an attendant you answer questions. Overall it was cool doing this once but we agreed we would never come back. With the outhouse issue I would not recommend anyone come here until it is properly managed. read more

Never thought I'd be leaving a review for an Ostrich farm but here we are! This place is conveniently located and parking was easy, they even have an attendant to help you out. Very affordable and they do take card which has been a concern at other "zoos" where you can pay to feed the animals. Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout the visit. Plenty of signage and convenient feeding platforms along the fence line. I actually really enjoyed the Emu's myself, a lot more delicate and personable compared to the big boys. Lots of spots for great photo opportunities and with the way things are setup you'd really have to try to get nipped by one of the ostriches. It was also remarkably clean for it being an outdoor attraction with lots of occupied exhibit spaces. Family friendly with common sense, don't let your kids wander right to the fence holding a giant dish of food unattended. The one nip we saw was very mild and the kid laughed it off pretty quick. This place is near and dear to my heart. Each time we come to visit Solvang the Ostrich's and Emu's are on our list of places to visit. This trip the young Emu's caught my attention. They were in a separate area and not yet old enough to make the same deep vocalizations their older counterparts make. These two made sweet high pitched sounds. Even though we came during the terrible heat wave (high 90's for the rest of the week) it was still fun to hold out the feed bowls and walk around talking to the birds. I really do think they listen. And a few of them posed for my pictures. The gift shop (with air conditioning, yay) had a few new t-shirt patterns I really liked. Plus the super sweet kitty cat perched on the counter provided necessary customer support. Now someone needs to tell the Sun to stop giving us triple digit heat. Sheesh. read more
