Called a week in advance to book a 9 person reservation for the Hibachi room. This was one of the less complicated processes I've experienced in this post pandemic world of reservations. Very nostalgic of easier times. This was the place of choice for my son's 9th Birthday (yes accidental continuity there). We arrived a few minutes early, but everything was ready for us. Service was excellent. They provided the hibachi menus at the table, but did give us the sushi and cocktail menus upon request. Our group ordered just about everything. Seriously people were acting like they hadn't eaten that week! I think the great service and fresh flavors of the food prompted more ordering. Jose was our chef and he was amazing. Really made our night! My parents who usually hate hibachi are already discussing making the journey from Twinsburg again because they were that impressed with the food and service. My only caution is that for larger groups the seating may be a little "cozy". I will definitely be back. read more

Stopped here for some sushi. Pretty quiet place, spacious seating with a small sushi bar option. Service was not over friendly or engaging, but quick and attentive. The sushi was pretty good. Spicey tuna and Philly were the best on the plate. My wife also enjoyed her spring roll order. read more

Back in OH for Thanksgiving vacation ... went here again ... what a DISASTER ... it's an oxymoron ... the food is good but the service is almost nonexistent ... we've been here 2x before and the service was the same ... The waitstaff consists of ONE person for the entire restaurant! ... so I suppose it's "on me" ... First time, and this was exceptional. Hidden in the back of Golden Gate Plaza, Otani's is worth the visit. At 7:30 on a Monday night the restaurant had several full tables, and several people were eating at the sushi bar. The walls were decorated with waves, reminiscing of the great artist, Katsushika Hokusai. The manager, Marco, was an excellent waiter and very attentive. Checking into Yelp we ordered an app of Crab Rangoon using the $5 offer. The sushi roll was fresh and good. I ordered my first Ramen Bowl called Shrimp Tempura. A bowl full of ramen, broccoli, scallions, seaweed, and more in a Miso broth was very good. I took half home. On the side were four large Tempura Shrimp. Very nice. Son ordered the Steak & Scallops Hibachi. Salad, Miso soup, rice and vegetables were included. It was delicious. I bragged that we came for my son's birthday, and Marco surprised him with a bowl of ice cream and Tempura Oreos. Oh, my, those Oreos were worth having after the entire meal. Totally recommend. Terrible Experience I would give zero stars if I could. We waited an hour and a half at the hibachi grill and when the chief finally arrived and cooked our food it, bland, and completely disappointing. The service was just as bad--no updates, no apologies, and it felt like we were completely forgotten. By the time we got our meals, we had lost our appetite. Definitely not worth the time or money. It's been man years since I ordered from here. And now I recall why. All their Sushi is served warm. I am used to maki rolls being cold. The Vegan Spicy Mushroom Scallop Roll was impossibe to eat as the mushrooms were tough and rubberish. The avocado rolls were good but warm. Been here before for Hibachi which was fabulous and from my recollection one of the funniest hibachi performers I've had. Today, felt like getting sushi wasted so we took advantage of the half price sushi night (FYI, half price specials end at 7pm and doesn't include the sushi sampler or anything on the new sushi item list). Additionally, place gets crowded and they only take reservation on half price sushi nights if you have a party of 5. Despite the foot traffic in there tonight, our server was attentive and got our order on point (i'm a fan of just small amount of rice as not to dilute the taste, also not a fan of cream cheese in my sushi). Saba (mackerel) nigiri, sold in single servings. Not a party favorite but my Filipino heritage draws me to this salt water/fishy delicacy. A very healthy serving and fresh for what you get. Spicy tuna, wrapped in seaweed, 6 pieces. Kind of small, definitely poppable bite size, boasts a nice karate chop to my face with spice. Pleasantly unexpected. Rainbow roll, a premium California roll inside (avocado, crabstick, cucumber), capped with a rainbow of salmon, Hamachi, shrimp and maguro. Such pretty presentation and equally delicious. I think I heard every neighboring table order this roll as well. 4.5 roll, were like sushi cookies, had to eat these in several installments, but was my favorite of the order. Spicy tuna, shrimp, masago, wrapped in rice and strips of seawood, topped with red clam. usually also comes with cream cheese, but I opted out. Spicy scallops, 6 pieces, were just plain diced spicy scallops. Also very small niblets of pleasure, like seafood bon bons. didn't think they had much spice factor, also heavily laden in some mayo sauce. Food was great as usual but unfortunately their service has been going down hill. Tonight was my last time going there. We ordered carry out for pick up. I was told 35 minutes on the phone (I know better and I always add on 15 minutes due to staffing shortages) I arrived at the 50 minute mark. I had to wait an additional 35 minutes so a total of 1hr and 25 minutes when I was told 35 minutes. Reason being? They were slammed with orders from door dash, Uber, grub hub etc. I am so sick of these places ignoring customers that are dining in their restaurant and/or standing right in front of them. Great service. Terrible sugary food. Inedibly syrupy sweet sauces and soups. Ramen was sweetened. Gyoza was sweetened. Sesame chicken was soupy with a sweet syrupy sauce and bulked up with cheap celery. Even the fried rice was abysmal: soaked in brown soy colored sauce, yet flavorless and dry. Made with long grain rather than short grain rice. This is made for westerners or maybe Filipino eaters who like everything sweet. Not authentic at all. We knew as soon as we sat down and there were forks on the table. The miso soup arrived with a spoon in it. If you know anything about Japanese food ... No spoon for miso soup! Torikatsu fried chicken was the only thing that didn't have syrup on it -- and ironically that's the one thing that normally has a sauce on it. Do not eat here if you're looking for Japanese food. We sat at the bar, which is a first for me at a hibachi place, I live for the table action but we needed a fast dining experience so we tried. It was so neat to watch the guys roll sushi, so we had to order one for an appetizer. We picked the flamingo. It was my first fried sushi roll, pretty good. I like my sushi on the spicier side, but cool to try something different. They also brought us the soup and salad that accompanies all hibachi orders. I love that they don't make you pick just one. I want both!! I got the miso soup while bf got the mushroom soup. Their house salad with the ginger dressing is nice and simple. Otani adds an interesting twist to theirs dressing but making it a creamy ginger dressing, definitely different. I don't think I prefer it over normal ginger dressing but I would do some unspeakable things for fresh ginger so take it with a grain of rice Haha. If you like a more subtle ginger flavor, you will probably enjoy it. We then received our gigantic entrees. I ordered all veggie with extra veggies and bf got the steak chicken combo which looks epic. Mine was super great, I wish there were more mushrooms and zucchinis but that's just my preference. Their hibachi sauces are delightful though!! The gingery sauce was great but it is outdone by the white sauce. It is like a better version of yum yum sauce. It has more of kick and I just love it. All of this of course was served by a wonderful, quick and helpful staff. They promptly brought us forks when they saw bf struggling with chopsticks. Went here for dinner with my dad. It was his choice, I was trying to push Jersey Mikes but he wanted Otani! Otani it was. Started out with a fresh salmon and avocado roll. It was perfect! We both ordered chicken, shrimp and beef. The miso soup was good, and the salad just plain iceberg with some ginger/mayo dressing. Pretty standard. The meal was a pretty good portion of rice veggies and protein. We both finished it. I put some chili paste on mine as I have to eat spicy food! The hibachi chef did a decent job, he was the more mellow one. I noticed that they have 1/2 price drinks on Thursday. My husband and I were thrilled to find vegan sushi near Cleveland. We really appreciated the wide variety of vegan options - everything we ordered was delicious! Our waiter rocked! He looks like Kiernan culkin if he slayed a little harder. I appreciate his hustle and how he was running laps around the restaurant despite not actually carrying any food. The real cherry on top was when he saved my clueless friend from the burning hot hibachi table and continued to provide aid to her using his medical expertise from his past life. The Char Sui and Pork Belly ramen options always hit the spot for me. It's not the best but it is definitely better than most restaurants I've visited so far for ramen. While the ramen is decent, the other food dishes (esp the rice ones, such as the chicken cutlet), are filling and have enough flavor to keep you satisfied. The service here is quite fast as well. I've never felt like I waited to long during my dining experience. Food was always delivered mostly when I expect it too. The wait staff here are humble and kind as well. They always focus on providing the best dining experience for their customers. I am always greeted with a smile and appreciate it a lot. This food was disgusting. From the pictures online, it looked like a regular hibachi restaurant. We go and sit down in the restaurant style area (cooks are not in front of you), and we ordered hibachi chicken. Some of the worst chicken we have ever had in our lives. Tasted like boiled, frozen chicken. Even the fried rice had absolutely no flavor. We are also avid sushi eaters, and I can confidently say the worst sushi I have ever had as well. The BEST Ramen, hands down. Their pork belly bowl is something you're not going to find anywhere else. Other places we have gotten pork belly from have been completely different meat than here. Their sushi is also top notch. Love the atmosphere. You can sit at a table, or sit at a short table on the floor (there's a sunken in area for your legs) which my son loves. The servers are always good, maybe a tiny bit slow, but there's usually only one or two covering the entire place so it's no fault of their own. We had one bad experience with an older woman server who got nasty with me and wanted to argue one time, but we don't hold that against the place since it was just once. (My son was younger and he always got just plain ramen noodles and broth, I forget what it was named on the menu. When she brought it out it this time it had spinach in it and I told her we asked for plain. She proceeded to get offended and tell me "he can eat that, that's always in there. I've worked here forever and that's how it always is, if you've ordered it before then he ate it like that". I said well, we have ordered it a dozen times and it's never had spinach, even on the menu it said plain noodles and broth. She wouldn't let up and seemed extremely offended that he didn't want spinach. I ended up not sending the food back, I just picked the spinach out for him while she gave me the stink eye. Fried rice and Singaporean noodle were fantastic according to the family. I had sushi and enjoyed it. Presentation is great and the waiters were friendly but on a Friday night, they defiantly appeared understaffed. Had other appetizers like some kind of Kani beef rolls and soft shell crab which were great as well. Overall, the ambience was lovely. Clean with some traditional seating as well as hibachi tables if you're into that. Really got that cultural Japanese feel. Service, as I noted earlier, was definitely suuuuuper slow for sushi. I think it took like 45-50 min for 2 sushi orders? And they were just single rolls. We came at about 7:00pm so they were busy but the agony from waiting while hungry was there... but our server was very accommodating and kind and tried her best to keep us updated and our teapot full! Best Ramen in Cleveland! The pork belly ramen is out of this world. And the original sushi chefs from Pacific East are here now that PE is under new ownership. The sushi here is MUCH BETTER than Pacific East. The best part is I can finally get my warm scallop roll! All of this and prices so reasonable you can actually afford to eat here more than once a week! Great owner, she is very nice and always accommodating.
