Where did one of the greatest if not greatest guitarist to ever live lived in San Francisco? The late Jimi Hendrix lived what is today is on top of a pet grooming store called Grooming and More and nextdoor there is the former Haight Street Market also known as Gus's Market on Haight street. Back on a Summer of Love strolling through the Haight there is a place which has lots of natural foods and lots of goods and a good place to grab drinks if you are headed to the Buena Vista Park, Panhandle or Golden Gate Park. At Gus's Market shop for groceries and you can grab take out foods like sandwiches called the " Valencia " ( can't escape it) , Hippie Hill, and Banh Mi . You can also build your own sandwiches and even add salad like, chicken, egg, and tuna salad. You may also add sauces like with 1000 Island sauce and Basil Pesto. They also sell bottled sauces like Fish sauce and Ranch dressing ( if it's from a Farm is it still considered Ranch ?) You will also find the other sauce with a good selection of wines like the Pinot Noir. Come take a Summer of Love stroll on Haight which is very "sedating "starting from the cross street of Clayton passing by people on their board "skating " across the street there is a Buffalo Exchange where used clothes be "trading "while on the same block one of the best pizza in the USA at Tony Gemignani's Slice House pizza is being prepared and the cheese is "grating "while people inside who are looking for a table are still "waiting " Inside Gus's people examine the mangoes and berries some are looking at imported goods and are price "evaluating "because the tariffs on some import goods have the prices "inflating" but people be coming back because they find the Haight street shopping experience is "fascinating "and that's why this place on Yelp for years has over a 4 star "rating"

Such a cute deli, they have everything you need and the store is clearly super popular as it was completely packed inside! They had tons of sandwich options as well as a poke bar and sushi. They have both premade and made to order sandwiches, and lots of other ready made food options. My only qualm was that they got my sandwich order completely wrong. I did the build your own sandwich option and the woman taking my order definitely had a hard time with it. She only repeated back the meat to me after taking my order and said the wrong thing but I corrected her. When I got my sandwich I was missing 3 of the items I asked for (one of which I paid extra for) and the sandwich had mustard on it which I really do not like. Unfortunately I did not enjoy my sandwich and couldn't even get through half. They really layered on the mustard so even after I scraped off what I could, it was still very strong. It would definitely be better if they had a paper where you could select the boxes for what ingredients you want on your sandwich, that way there's far less room for error. My sandwich looked delicious, and if you like mustard, I'm sure you would've loved it.

As far as their customer service goes everyone there is nice, attentive and problem solving. When it comes to their produce, it really has gone downhill. Yes, you do find some decent items fairly price but then most of them are almost on the expiring side. Their "organic" products are with-in the "non organic" ones. I understand that the workers have re-stock items but this happens too often, on weekends and on their most busy times for business. It is hard to get around, since the space is very limited. Take a look the picture which to this date I cannot understand why a difference in color of a bell pepper would increase its price dramatically. Also, what kind of "deal" do you actually get when the deal is the same price? Lastly, if I was the manager, I would ask the employees that smoke/use vape to go to the corner so the smell does not persist near the store, this obviously includes asking people not to smoke in the park-let because the smell of cig's ends up inside the store and no one seems to care.

Got a banh mi and it didn't taste like one at all. I could barely taste the pickled carrots and the mayo just looks like regular mayo which is not authentic. The sandwich is big and filling but it just taste like a ham sandwich with mayo. It came out fast and in a timely manner. I would recommend not getting this if you're looking to want a good banh mi. They have many other options!

This is my favorite local grocery near me! I get all my produce from here- friendly staff! They are more affordable than Whole Foods, and have a lot of vegan/veg healthy options. I also sometimes get sushi from there. Pretty decent sushi- the spicy salmon roll wasn't spicy at all but still a delicious meal.

Actually, I hardly ever go to Safeway anymore. Shelves are always well stocked, store is very clean, and just a pleasant place to shop at. In one incident over a year ago, another customer verbally harassed me and threatened physical harm while I was shopping. Her child was left unattended and was knocking items over, which I reported to security. The guard failed to do his job and did not intervene appropriately. When a supervisor arrived, the situation was handled much more professionally. I should feel safe shopping in my local market. That guard no longer works there, but the experience was upsetting and difficult to move past. Unfortunately, in January 2026, I encountered similar issues with a new security guard. He has repeatedly followed me around the store without cause. Most recently, he approached me unnecessarily, stood uncomfortably close, and spoke to me in an intrusive manner while I was selecting items. His behavior showed poor training and a lack of respect for personal boundaries. These repeated experiences with security staff are negatively affecting the atmosphere at Woodlands. I am a respectful, regular customer and do not want to feel uncomfortable or monitored without cause when shopping. Proper security training and professionalism are essential for customer safety and trust.

We were in San Francisco for about a week, and having a Trader Joe's so close was a total lifesaver. We could easily stop in and grab breakfast foods, snacks, and, of course, our favorite peanut butter cups. It saved us from having to spend a ton of money eating out for breakfast every morning, and we were able to stock up on snacks that lasted us for the entire trip. This Trader Joe's was definitely a different experience than the one we're used to back home in the St. Louis suburbs. Since it was right in the city, you actually had to take an escalator down to get into the store, which was kind of fun and unexpected. I also felt like there was surprisingly more room in the aisles than I expected for a city location. The checkout line was a completely different story! It wrapped around the store, which honestly gave me a little anxiety because I felt like I needed to hurry and get everything because the line looked like it was going to take forever. But they had a ton of checkers working, and the line actually moved incredibly fast. Before I knew it, we were checked out and on our way. It was just really nice to be somewhere familiar while experiencing a totally different version of Trader Joe's in another city. Having one so close to our hotel made our trip easier, more affordable, and a little more fun. And yes, we absolutely stocked up on those peanut butter cups!
