Wow!!! I saw this place leaving the doctor and was curious.... looked on Yelp, did a u-turn and here ya go! Biggest best Reuben ever! To be honest, I wanted to get the corned beef but it wasn't ready yet so this is pastrami. DELISH! On the chalkboard that day they had a Szechuan Reuben with kimchi and some amazing looking sauce. I can't even imagine how delicious that must be! I will definitely be back! **** Update... I feel like I want to give these guys a little advice! If you want to stay open in this town you have to have a consistently good product at a decent price and they do if a $12 Ruben is ok with you. I do wish the rye bread had more rye in it but the pastrami and corn beef are so good we'll let that slide. The thing is they're always out of things on the menu! No latkes "cause they don't sell." Well they'd sell if people knew they could come in and get them when they're in the mood. Today I had a half sandwich so that I could get a salted chocolate chip cookie but when I asked if they had any, the guy exclaims "No!" It was funny/weird. And of course no corned beef... it's either sold out or not ready. My point is, I don't think this place will make it if they don't change some things. I chanced upon the Otherside Deli just weeks after it opened but it was early and I was looking for a late breakfast, not ready for lunch. I talked with the counterman for a bit and decided I would return another time and try their home-cured pastrami since I'm an old Brooklyn Deli guy from way back. So a few days ago I found myself in their neighborhood around lunchtime and decided today was the day. Upon walking in you could tell this was a modest, start-up restaurant that set a nice but spartan tone to the place. I didn't read most of the menu, I know what I wanted and I ordered a pastrami on rye w/deli mustard. I was looking forward to a great tasting, home-style deli sandwich and that's just what I got. The pastrami was tender and tasty, somewhat reminiscent of corned beef on seedless rye - I missed the real 'deli' rye bread with tang and bite and a crust you have to work thru but the counterman said they hadn't been able to find the rye they really wanted yet. The plus side is that the sandwich tasted lovely, I could tell they were really trying to accomplish something unique and worthwhile with their enterprise and I like supporting folks like that. However...I was disappointed with the small size of the sandwich, especially considering its price ($11). For that price I was expecting more of a meal than I got and that is always disappointing. So if your appetite is modest and you want to try something unique and tasty then by all means make your way to the Otherside Deli. The rest of the sandwich menu looked interesting and I wish them all the best with their restaurant...it's just not for me. read more

I ended up ordering a Philly Cheese steak bc they didn't have the turkey to make me a The Otherside sandwich... everything is xtra i.e. chili relish. Found it pretty dry, adding more salt bc it doesn't have any flavor and as I was finishing the sandwich my stomach did not like what was going down... Had an upset stomach ever since. They need to keep up with their stock... the guy ahead of me asked for a meatball and they told me they didn't have that either... come on now on a Friday ? The guy just said they were fairly new that was his excuse .. btw this was during lunch. No reason why they just rely on their Pastrami. read more

This place is great. Took over where Delaware suns was. Totally legit Italian sandwiches. I don't like Rueben's but they look amazing. Like the half sandwich option. Only reason I didn't given it 5 stars was because I got a chicken cheesesteak one time and there was barely any meat on it. All bread. Made me sad. Other than that one time, it is fabulous. Straight-up delicious. Everthing was fresh and cooked to perfection from the grilled onions, carved turkey, jalepeno relish to the delicious slighlty grilled bread. I can't say enough about the two gentleman working there today. They were friendly and professional, spoke directly to the customers, came around and asked how everything tasted, and provided an inviting environment. Great little local lunch spot. One word Amazing!!!!!! Ordered with my brother while visiting in Austin I'm from Maine. Ordered twice because it was that darn good!. First we ordered a sliced ribeye steak and cheese and a turkey club with bacon, lettuce tomato and mayo. The ribeye steak on my sub was so fresh and sliced ultra thin with some nice fat caps keeping the beef super juicy. Coupled with the yellow American cheese and the crusty sub roll the term steak and cheese took on a whole new meaning. Don't know where to start on that turkey club, The Turkey on that bad boy was like fresh carved chunks of rotisserie chicken so moist and juicy and slightly warmed to ultimate perfection. The bacon perfectly crisp and adding a nice contrast of salty to the rest of the sandwich. Went back up to the counter for round two and ordered there signature Italian sub which we received alongside a bonus sample of there homemade New York style slow cooked pastrami corned beef. The Italian sub was straight bomb ham, capicola, and salami met for the Perfect trio for a great authentic Italian style sub. Sub also had provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, oregano and oil and vinegar. Everything on this sub tasted so fresh clearly everything is sliced daily if not sliced at every order very epic!. Lastly the sample of pastrami Reuben was as the silver plate mounted on there wall stated "you are about to enter a whole different dimension" the meat was so tender and when pulled would just break apart and when in your mouth melt like straight butter. Had a perfect ratio of fat cap to meat and the meat was so tender with that perfect slice against the grain. I will be back for more this is just the start of a Saga. I first ate here following my yearly checkup at the nearby Seton medical tower about 11 months ago. It replaced Delaware subs and initially when I pulled up I was disappointed that Delaware was gone. Nonetheless I walked in and ordered two sandwiches to go. Being the hungry man I was, I started eating the Pastrami Reuben on the road home. The sandwich itself is filling, delicious and may be gone before you realize it. Despite it's size, I was nearly done with the sandwich 5 minutes into the drive. I've never had a Reuben as good. The philly cheese steak was another winner, I ate half of it before I made it home. I normally wouldn't eat that much all at once but the food was tasty. I hope this place remains a beloved but not overly trafficked spot, but knowing Austin (I'm one of the few natives left) expect lines to start forming in a few years as more locals find out about this place and recommend it to their friends and neighbors. Upon entering the restaurant we were told to stand behind the makeshift table set-up and told to order on-line over our phone. While we are looking at the menu on our phone, we were asked to step outside to complete our order. The attitude of the staff member who addressed us was unpleasant and rude. We ended up leaving. If the guy with the attitude was the owner, it is his prerogative to operate his business this way. If it was someone other than the owner, he should know that some asshole is hurting his brand.
