Back again. And they have it going on here now! Staff super friendly and accommodating. Got the club and will post a pic of the beast. The meat is enough for two and I love a lot of meat in my sandwich!! Quick I mean bang food was here and spot on. Crew got cheese steaks and haven't said a word since food got here. That says it all. Tea is off the hook go there for sure. Another Austin jewel. Other Side took over after previous owner left. Man what a difference in the best way possible! Sandwich was better and the place is Clean!! Staff are super friendly and the tea is great. Just total 180. I had the Otherside Italian had loads of meat which is my pet peeve. Another hole in the wall spot that does it right. I was looking for a local sandwich spot and ran across this one. Not only was the food amazing but the customer service was superb! Best sandwiches I've ever had. This place should make every Top List in Austin. The Queso Cheesesteak my go-to. The Italian is amazing as well. My wife loves their pastrami. The owner is very nice and makes sure everyone is satisfied. Something else I look for in restaurants is the tea... the tea here is always great, not watered-down. This place is always a 11/10. I get "The Otherside" with corned beef on white toasted. All I can say is, amazing. One sandwich is $14 or half for $8. It's worth every penny. I haven't had any of the sides because the sandwich is very filling. Everyone there is really friendly. There is outdoor seating if you want to be 2 ft from the sun, otherwise there are 3 booths and a long high table inside. They don't take cash. read more

I was a huge fan of Otherside back when they were a food truck behind a random bar with the best pastrami in the universe. I haven't been able to get downtown to see their new location since they moved. Today out of nowhere we decided to visit them. We were super excited. Unfortunately, they decided without posting anything to their social media, or website they they would just randomly close early. I walked into the store optimistic because I still saw some people eating. I was simply told they decided to close early today because they were dead... This place is in a tiny plaza near Seton main and the interior is sort of run down and the kitchen dirty looking. That doesn't stop me from ordering delivery through Favor here often. What they lack in presentation, they make up for in taste and portions! We've tried their Reuben with pastrami and the turkey and both are loaded with meat. Check them out! read more

Best pastrami I've ever had and I've had "the best" in NYC, nice thick slices of pastrami, amazing bread, even great sauces to go with your pastrami or Ruben. The cookies looked really good but didn't try them, but the sandwiches, OH THE SANDWICHES! I made a special trip up for it but to my surprise it's near a spot in that part of Austin I'm close by weekly, so I'll have to come here more. Yum! My husband had the "Otherside" which was outstanding. He ordered the half a sandwich, which, with chips, was enough of a lunch for him. I would say tell them you want them to go easy on the dressing and it's perfect. I had the ham & Swiss (the whole sandwich) and loved it. Very, very fresh and just simply delightful. Exactly what you want in a deli sandwich without feeling weighed down like you sometimes do at some of the chain sandwich shops. Super friendly down to earth, wonderful service. Big booths to sit in. Just the perfect little neighborhood deli. My only complaint is that they only have the super crunchy kind of chips, I like Lays, but that's a personal preference. read more

This review is for 3.5 stars. Fine pastrami but definitely wouldn't consider it New York style. Not fatty and not posed as you'd expect. Bread tasted alright but completely fell apart if you opt to add coke ale or tomato to the sandwich to layer it. Cole slaw good but on the blander side as I prefer so each their own. House hot sauce a good addition as well. Honestly didn't blow me away as I'd hoped. Service fine and quick, takeout available, and parking easy out front or nearby. Good but for $12 I think I'll just stick to a bbq sandwich when in Austin and leave pastrami to the east coast. read more

Very small nondescript sandwich joint. Sandwich options can be made hot or cold and there are a fair good number of savory looking sandwiches. I did not notice any vegetarian sandwich options, but the pickles, sauerkraut and chips may possibly substitute? I ordered the Reuben as a whole sandwich with the option of adding a bag of chips and a tea ~$15. Of all the reubens I've ever eaten, none have made me go "wow" with every bite. A great sandwich is one where each bite tastes the same from start to finish. The sauce that the Reuben was paired with was delish but the sauerkraut added another layer of flavor that blended well. I would not hesitate eating here again whenever I have a hankering for a savory sandwich! read more

I am so happy this deli is hop, skip, and jump away from my obstetrician. Every month I have to go to the doc to check on the little bean growing in my tummy, I know where I'll end up after! Pregnant cravings or not, this place will always be a go-to, fast lunch place for me. It's located in a teeny, kinda-run-down strip mall on 34th street amongst all the medical buildings and Seton, so I can imagine it's a popular spot for lunch goers in the area. I was the only customer on this particular day and I have never been greeted so warmly. Furthermore they walked me through the menu with genuine consideration for pregnancy limitations (you can't eat deli meat while you're preggo...lame!) So, I settled on the cooked turkey reuben. Because they heat the meat up, I am good. They were happy to oblige my request. This sandwich was stacked. I mean fully loaded. I had to remove some of the generous cuts of turkey just to take a bite. The sauerkraut and sauce is really what made the sandwich for me. Next time, I think I am going to try The Roddy. I can't wait to return, but think I can't wait for my next doc appointment, although that's always a good excuse to pop in! read more

We came last week and had their special, the Szechuan Reuben, with kimchi instead of kraut, mozzarella, and their special hot sauce. I would say we thoroughly enjoyed it, but I would have liked it a little more spicy. Aside from that, the meat was incredibly moist and perfectly seasoned! The deli is tucked in to a small shopping center, and doesn't stand out from outside signage. They have ample parking and you get your food pretty fast, so there's a high parking turnover. Also, the staff was very helpful and nice! The only negative I would say, because I'm weird about smells, is the old, mildewy smell of the Deli itself. It took my breath away when I first walked in, but eventually my nose got used to it. I would probably get to-go next time, and eat somewhere else. Hey, some people might like that, its endearing, homey? Maybe I'm the weird one! Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would return to try some of their other sandwiches! read more

Second attempt at trying the Pastrami. They were out by 12:30pm.. they have been out of Pastrami both times. I tried to get a better idea of when they typically run out. Asked about their hours. Customer service just wasn't ideal. "That's just how it is man I can't just make more Pastrami" I understand that, but the owner was cold. You consistently don't make enough Pastrami, that's just "how it is" Too many options for good sandwiches in Austin to get rude service. Skip this place, go to Little Deli, Gourmand's, or Pieous. read more

This place is a must stop by if you are in the area. It's going to be a place I frequent when in Austin. Being a person who grew up in NYC and had my share of Chop cheese sandwiches. Other side deli has it down. First of all, this is the first deli outside of NYC that I was able to find a chop cheese. I also didn't read any reviews, so I guess I be the first. The service here is great. I placed a online order and arrived a little early. They were very accommodating in getting my order completed very quickly. The chop cheese has great flavor and was I remembered from my childhood. What ever you taste swing by and get you something. If the chop cheese is this good then the other sandwiches are probably just as good. read more

Otherside Deli is my quarantine comfort food. Their pastrami is so good its outrageous. Their Rachel (their rueben with turkey) might be my favorite sandwich in Austin. We tried Otherside Deli last Thursday night after hearing a friend rave about the original truck spot. While we were the only customers that night, the location seems smart because it's otherwise kind of a culinary dead zone, so hopefully there's more medical folks foot traffic during lunch. We ordered a pastrami rueben, a meatball sub, and some coleslaw. The coleslaw was light and nicely acidic, and the pastrami is both legitimate and delicious. Great sandwich overall. The meatballs on the sub were spicy and flavorful, but the whole thing needed a bit more love. (For one, the bread should at least be slightly toasted, so it doesn't get so mushy from the sauce.) The man and woman who were working were nice, and the space is casual albeit sans much personality. Our main issue is value: if you're charging $12 for a sandwich--and we get it because we make pastrami at home ourselves, and it's a time-intensive process--then there should be more than just a few slices. You don't need to make it Carnegie Deli-style (RIP!) for $30, but a true pastrami reuben should be more generous with its meat. In whichever case, we would still recommend this place to others, as the only other truly impressive pastrami in Austin is all the way in Dripping Spring at Pieous. read more

I chanced upon the Otherside Deli just weeks after it opened but it was early and I was looking for a late breakfast, not ready for lunch. I talked with the counterman for a bit and decided I would return another time and try their home-cured pastrami since I'm an old Brooklyn Deli guy from way back. So a few days ago I found myself in their neighborhood around lunchtime and decided today was the day. Upon walking in you could tell this was a modest, start-up restaurant that set a nice but spartan tone to the place. I didn't read most of the menu, I know what I wanted and I ordered a pastrami on rye w/deli mustard. I was looking forward to a great tasting, home-style deli sandwich and that's just what I got. The pastrami was tender and tasty, somewhat reminiscent of corned beef on seedless rye - I missed the real 'deli' rye bread with tang and bite and a crust you have to work thru but the counterman said they hadn't been able to find the rye they really wanted yet. The plus side is that the sandwich tasted lovely, I could tell they were really trying to accomplish something unique and worthwhile with their enterprise and I like supporting folks like that. However...I was disappointed with the small size of the sandwich, especially considering its price ($11). For that price I was expecting more of a meal than I got and that is always disappointing. So if your appetite is modest and you want to try something unique and tasty then by all means make your way to the Otherside Deli. The rest of the sandwich menu looked interesting and I wish them all the best with their restaurant...it's just not for me. read more
