So many great things to say about this sushi restaurant! My favorite in all of the Bay Area hands down !! Very small restaurant but some of the freshest unique sushi rolls I have ever had ! Lots of parking very calm location. Definitely whenever I'm in the mood for sushi this is my go to spot !

The sushi was very fresh, the tempura batter was super light. Absolutely always enjoy their food. They forgot to have my sister's ramen broth spicy but they fixed it when asked. Orher than that, the service was fast and the restaurant is cozy.

I usually don't do review, then I realized only my treasure box has one fill with wasabi and ginger? Just because I am speaking the same language as he does? I feel ashamed! Thank god I took a picture! First time I go there with my colleague, never be back!

Good place to have japanese cuisine. This place is good for dining with friends or families. There are plenty options on the menu. There is also many choices of sushi roll option. The owner is also the sushi chef and very friendly. We have been visiting couple times and love the food and the company. The sashimi is fresh and the cut is good size. I also like the shrimp tempura. That is one of my favorite. The spicy tuna roll is yummy . The beef teriyaki is tender and the sauce is good. Overall it was satisying and we got home happy.

Contrary to the restaurant rating, my experience was pretty decent. Will this be your life changing go-to number #1 sushi spot? Probably not. Will you be able to conveniently satisfy your sushi craving? Yes. We came in as a large group around 12 PM. I enjoyed the complimentary warm tea they gave us to start off. The lunch bento boxes are popular and satisfying. For a mid-sized group, the party platters are a good option too. The party-platter comes with standard rolls (shrimp tempura, tuna, california etc.) and the small is good for ~4 people. They also have a lot of vegetarian options and a lot of rolls to choose from in general. Fish is fresh. Efficient and kind service and overall a good pick especially for a casual work lunch.

I highly recommend if you are in the Redwood Shores/Redwood City/San Carlos/San Mateo area(s) and looking for Sushi, come here! I prefer to support local family owned businesses and both Victor and his wife Queenie create a wonderful customer friendly experience in addition to providing excellent Sushi. Highlight the Kumamoto Oysters (fresh) and the Redwood Shores roll, Ahh Mazing! In addition, the entire staff are absolutely wonderful. You won't go wrong.

Sushi and appetizers are solid. My go-to place when I want something easy, close with little or no wait. The service is TOPS. Our waiter (his name is Stone) is phenomenal. Always smiling, remembers our orders from the previous visit, quick to respond to any requests. LOVE eating there when he is there. This is out go-to place. Never had a bad experience here!

    Lobster Roll so good!!
    Tiffany M.

My first try here! Super fresh fishes abound, argh!!! I'm definitely a sushi pirate! Loved everything I ordered and very impressed. The Lobster Roll is beautifully presented with a lovely lobster shell placed with the roll for a grand presentation. Each bite of the roll has a nice chunk of lobster up top. I might have found my new go to for sushi craves! The Dragon Rainbow Roll I loved; nice version of traditional Rainbow Roll. Different raw fish up top the bite sized roll cuts, including my personal fav, yellowtail, with real crab on the inside for additional cost, is awesome and sooooo good. Creamy and sweet sauces drizzled over the roll is perfect accompaniment. Lastly, the Mackerel Sashimi I haven't tried before I found to be pretty tasty but a little too vinegary and salty for me, that's just me folks. It was beautifully presented with lemon slices and radish curls. I will definitely return, so close here in the hood. Give them a try, ample parking in the Redwood Shores Shopping Center.

Bento Box & Redwood Shores Roll
    Kristen L.

Came with a coworker during lunch. It wasn't too crowded, and we opted to sit at a table outside. We each ordered a bento box ($12.99) and the Redwood Shores roll ($14.95) to share. The bento box comes with shrimp and vegetable tempura, California roll, salad, rice, and miso soup and I chose the tonkatsu as my entree. The Redwood Shores roll has unagi and avocado, and is topped with crab meat, raw tuna, and avocado. The food is just okay. The tonkatsu had a good crisp but was a little tough and the tempura was heavily battered and oily, which made it hard to finish. Both the Redwood Shores roll and the California roll had a disproportionate amount of mayo to the rest of the ingredients, so that was the prevailing flavor with each bite, which I didn't really enjoy. Despite the underwhelming food, the servers were nice and delivered our food quickly. 3 stars is probably too generous in terms of the food, but the good service was appreciated.

Some personal thoughts: If you want something light, or try to order for the elders, wagyu aburasoba is a better choice, since the meat is more lean and yogurt sauce help balance the richness. Homura aburasoba is also great, but minced pork is a bit fatty, and traditional sauce is also rich, so I normally find it hard to finish a bowl because I'm too full. Nevertheless, I don't say it's not great, do not order. What I meant is that if you have a preference for light food (like me), hate something too oily/ greasy or afraid of fat, wagyu aburasoba is always a better choice!

My order was Soboro Aburasoba noodles with green onions and ground chicken. I substituted the raw for a poached egg. First off, these noodles have no soup. You mix up the egg with the melange of ingredients resulting in a pasta sauce of sorts. My dish was sweet since the ground chicken seems to have been cooked in a teriyaki-type sauce. After a few bites, I added in some sesame seeds and garlic seasoning. After a little more time, I added in some vinegar - this helped balance the flavor more. For me, this dish was disappointing. The noodles were okay. But after half a bowl, the dish was really boring. It's like eating a big bowl of pasta Bolognese. A few bites if the same flavor and I wanted to have something else. The service was so-so. I was not offered the free tea (unlike my neighbors who were both males). I had to ask for it. At the end, I had to flag a server for my bill. The food here at Kajiken is not inexpensive. The line must be due to the dishes being different from traditional ramen with soup. But for me, I will likely stay on the savory ramen-with-soup-fan side rather be a sweet-dry-noodle fan side.

It had sea urchins, hokkaido scallops, shrimp, salmon roe and 5 types of fish belly (my most favorite part of the fish). Every bite just literally melted in my mouth, and they were incredible fatty and delicious. You get what you pay for. Oh baby roll was also delicious, but luckily we tried it before the chirashi (or else it would turn into a disappointment - since the chirashi was phenomenal). It's just a basic roll, stuffed with ahi tuna and avocado topped with seared salmon, you can skip it if you want. House warm sake was a surprise. I like it more than I thought.
