We walked in on a Monday about 530-6 pm with my parents. Completely empty. We ordered the takoyaki and a deluxe combo 12 piece that was an assortment of sushi and sashimi - hot tea to start. The combo plate came fairly quickly, the sashimi and sushi were okay, portions were on the smaller side respectfully. My fiancé got a chicken teriyaki bento with spicy tuna roll, my parents and I got a few hand rolls, scallop, salmon skin, and spicy tuna. Super spider roll and a few more rolls. The bento box was very small portion of chicken and just nothing special about it on top of that. Not bad just not great. The hand rolls were small - 2 bites. Again not bad, just Not really Eventually we get the takoyaki at the very end, which was actually the best thing we had there. It was piping hot, inside nice and gooey while the outside was crispy. Good place to have japanese cuisine. This place is good for dining with friends or families. There are plenty options on the menu. There is also many choices of sushi roll option. The owner is also the sushi chef and very friendly. We have been visiting couple times and love the food and the company. The sashimi is fresh and the cut is good size. I also like the shrimp tempura. That is one of my favorite. The spicy tuna roll is yummy . The beef teriyaki is tender and the sauce is good. This place is just ok. My favorite thing that I got was the cold soba with broth. The broth was actually very nice, especially with wasabi mixed in. I also got the chirashi bowl. The cuts of fish were all over the place. Some were thick, some were thin, some were falling apart, some were cut in half. It was a mess. The quality also varied. Some pieces tasted ok while some really did not taste fresh. This is definitely not the type of place that you go when you want a really high quality sushi. But I really did like the soba so that's why I'm giving it an average rating. And the fish wasn't disgusting, it was also wasn't great (and a few pieces were really not great). read more

The lunch bento boxes are popular and satisfying. For a mid-sized group, the party platters are a good option too. Lived in Redwood Shores for many years now and love supporting local small businesses. Work is close by also. I've grown to really enjoy dining at Otoko Sushi for lunch and dinner. So glad the current owners replaced the previous businesses at this location in the Marketplace. The Bento box offerings are great. I usually get the teriyaki chicken with mixed tempura with good value and quite filling. Miso soup is great with just the perfect savoriness. Not too salty and good temperature. Service is prompt and efficient with very nice and pleasant staff. The ambience is casual and pleasant. Good air conditioning when it's hot outside. I also enjoy the sushi rolls that have great flavor and rice to fish/protein ratio. I've enjoyed eating here many times. Highly recommended! Will keep coming back. read more

This place doesn't look like much from the outside- it's right next to Mendocino farms, an American bar& grill and a 5 guys but it's actually very nicely decorated inside. The lighting is a bit dim and romantic and they have a large TV with football on. The servers are attentive and the food comes out quickly. The food is average, nothing crazy but it's decent. The fish is pretty fresh. I will say, for $20 I was expecting a bit more fatty tuna on the roll. They also sold Kumamoto oyster for $4/oyster and Santa Barbara Uni Nigiri for $25/2 pieces which is pretty average. Chirachi don had kind of small pieces and came with a good miso soup. read more

Sushi and appetizers are solid. My go-to place when I want something easy, close with little or no wait. The service is TOPS. Our waiter (his name is Stone) is phenomenal. Always smiling, remembers our orders from the previous visit, quick to respond to any requests. LOVE eating there when he is there. This is out go-to place. My first try here! Super fresh fishes abound, argh!!! I'm definitely a sushi pirate! Loved everything I ordered and very impressed. The Lobster Roll is beautifully presented with a lovely lobster shell placed with the roll for a grand presentation. Each bite of the roll has a nice chunk of lobster up top. I might have found my new go to for sushi craves! The Dragon Rainbow Roll I loved; nice version of traditional Rainbow Roll. Different raw fish up top the bite sized roll cuts, including my personal fav, yellowtail, with real crab on the inside for additional cost, is awesome and sooooo good. Creamy and sweet sauces drizzled over the roll is perfect accompaniment. Lastly, the Mackerel Sashimi I haven't tried before I found to be pretty tasty but a little too vinegary and salty for me, that's just me folks. Came with a coworker during lunch. It wasn't too crowded, and we opted to sit at a table outside. We each ordered a bento box ($12.99) and the Redwood Shores roll ($14.95) to share. The bento box comes with shrimp and vegetable tempura, California roll, salad, rice, and miso soup and I chose the tonkatsu as my entree. The Redwood Shores roll has unagi and avocado, and is topped with crab meat, raw tuna, and avocado. The food is just okay. The tonkatsu had a good crisp but was a little tough and the tempura was heavily battered and oily, which made it hard to finish. Both the Redwood Shores roll and the California roll had a disproportionate amount of mayo to the rest of the ingredients, so that was the prevailing flavor with each bite, which I didn't really enjoy. Despite the underwhelming food, the servers were nice and delivered our food quickly. 3 stars is probably too generous in terms of the food, but the good service was appreciated. read more

The food was very standard and the meat was not bad. I think I would have crack my tooth if I bit in the California roll any harder, found a piece of "rock" in the roll. Cute small Japanese restaurant in a plaza in Redwood Shores. No lunch specials though. I tried the udon here and thought it was pretty decent. Soup was hot. Very clean broth with not much in it (which I like - I don't like a lot of things like bean sprouts, too many onions, etc). Noodles were nice and chewy. Always a little nervous about delivery sushi but they do a standout job! They even present the Rainbow roll beautifully almost as great as in store. Warrior roll and double hamachi are favorites as well as Negi Hama and Halloween roll which can be hit or miss if the pumpkin isn't cooked enough as in this case the only clunker in the group. I'm officially done with this place. I hadn't visited in a while with various hit and miss experiences of receiving smaller portions and forgetting items over the years. So I scheduled to meet up for lunch with a friend. This particular afternoon, the final nail in the coffin occurred. I had exited my vehicle and forgot my mask. Subsequently, I turned around and stepped on the curb wrong losing my footing and hitting the pavement. My hand took a bloody spill. My friend was already seated outdoors with a couple of waters ready for us. I thought I could use their restroom to wash up my blood-soaked hand and proceed with our sushi lunch. However, they refused to allow me to use the restroom despite my injury on display. He pointed to the hand santizer machine at which point I "LOL'ed" and perambulated with my friend a few doors down to Grill House where I was able to wash my hand, given many bandages, and had a nice lunch. With this sort of attitude, all the inconsistencies make sense. Let it be known if you choose to dine here, you will not be permitted to use the restroom at all. read more

Took my mom here for Valentine's Day lunch because they have a sushi roll called The Sweetheart Roll. It's shrimp tempura, imitation crab meat, avocado topped with tobiko and two sauces. Comes shaped in three hearts. It's so tasty and the presentation is beautiful. Love that their menu has photos of each roll. Staff was attentive. Restroom was clean and tidy. The fish was again so thin it looked like a piece of bacon and also tasted really oceany. My bf commented that it was drenched in oil to make it seem more "fatty." Avoid this one like the plague, people. I had one of the worst takeout experiences ever. Firstly, I asked the manager(?) if there was soy sauce and chopsticks in my bag. "Yes, all there" he says dismissively. I check at the car...not there so I go back. Waiter gives me them and says "well your door dash said no utensils" Okay so if the food is good, I can forgive. Nope. I open my $25 chirashi and find paper thin slices of fish, rotten smelling salmon, and a small rice portion (!) of all things. I ordered from UberEats. There was a promotion for $10 off $40. I ordered 3 ordered of sashimi and my order totalled $45 plus tip. I received 3 orders nigiri (what would cost $21). I called the restaurant and they explained the issue was that their receipts don't show whether one ordered sashimi or nigiri, but agreed my price reflected sashimi. They offered to give me free sashimi if I visited in-person, which I explained wasn't an option. I asked if they could call UberEats and they agreed. Uber reached out and said the restaurant was only going to adjust $7, which isn't correct. Do not go here and support a business that is cheap and unwilling to provide the bare minimum customer service (i.e., not taking monies from customers that are not owed). The rice is put into the smallest section of the bento box and instead they put edamame which is supposed to side menu into the biggest section of the bento. When I called the restaurant to complain, they gave a lame excuse saying that customer usually throw away rice because most of the customers are not Asian to appreciate the value of rice.
