Listen, I like this place and the pizza is really good but they definitely have problems. Its very expensive for pizza that is both thin and small. They also have a very consistent issue of taking forever to make pizza. To pick up two pizzas, it said the order was ready to pick up at 6:44pm. We get there ten minutes late, go in, and told the pizza is going to take 15 more minutes. It literally said the pizza was ready and instead they gave it to us about 20 minutes after. Fix how you do your pick up, it's embarrassing and weird. read more

I have never written a negative review before, even when it was warranted, but this experience was so disappointing I actually have to. It was my first time ordering Otto, my partner is gluten and dairy free, and we had been told it was the best pizza around for these types of food accommodations. I dropped $50 for 2 pizzas- 1 small GF with vegan cheese for my partner, and 1 large pepperoni for the rest of the group. It cost a little over $50 with tip, which is insanely expensive compared to other pizza in Newburyport, but I figured it would be worth it if the GF/DF meals were really as good as we heard. Well I can tell you that was not the case. The pepperoni pizza was definitely undercooked, which made the slices flop down so much that the cheese and pepperoni would slide right off. It wasn't even warm when we picked it up right on time, so it did not slide off because of heat. Even when we tried to reheat slices in both the oven and the air fryer to try to make the crust not doughy, it still did not improve. While the unreasonable price and the disappointing pepperoni were enough to make me not choose this pizza again, it is not enough by my standards to write a negative review. However, this part of our experience is what caused the negative review. My partner ate a lot of the GF/DF pizza and said it was decent, which was a positive. But it wasn't decent later that night when he was doubled over for HOURS with extreme stomach pain and all the symptoms of food poisoning which kept him up through the night. He has continued to have less severe, but still lasting effects of food poisoning from his pizza in the days since. He is not from Newburyport, and this experience has ruined his vacation, as he has been too sick with food poisoning symptoms. I had thought that the mushrooms on his pizza looked like they were old or potentially unwashed, but I don't know if that was the sole thing from his pizza that made him so sick. All I know is that his pizza made him sick. The only reason we even tried to branch out to Otto was because of the GF/DF recommendation, so I hyped it up to my partner that he would finally be able to have a GF/DF pizza that still tasted like pizza, only for him to get food poisoning from it. Clearly not everyone who has had a GF/DF pizza from here has ended with the same result, specifically because it was recommended to us, but I will be telling anyone in the future who is looking for a GF or DF pizza recommendation to stay away from this place. read more

Just had my first Otto pie after years of being teased for not trying the "best" pizza in the Port. I chose a small pineapple, bacon and hot honey. The staff was extremely friendly and professional. Wait time was totally reasonable and I picked up some wine and goodies while waiting . Bottom line is that my poor little pizza was way over cooked. Also there was burnt black residue on the bottom. This Newburyport location is reliably unreliable and they will do nothing to make things right with the customer when they make costly mistakes. Their pizzas cost about $26 and it's a coin flip as to whether you'll actually receive what you ordered when you ordered it. You can expect any combination of burned pizzas, being given the wrong pizza, forgotten toppings, a lack of toppings, or making you wait far beyond the time promised for your order. The corporate office doesn't care either. I've contacted them. Imagine planning your family order ahead of the rush. You show up a few minutes after you receive the text that your order is ready for pickup. You have your hungry toddler in hand to to arrive and get dinner, as you specifically planned. The guy at the counter, Diego, says "5 more minutes. He's cutting your pizza up right now." 45 minutes later... after the text telling you your order is ready... you ask for your refund because you need to have dinner ready for your family. He ignores your request and he says again, "5 more minutes. He's cutting your pizza up right now." You ask for your refund again and he hands you two cold pizzas and a sloppy topping fresh pizza. Once again, I contacted Otto's corporate office for help in making this right and was completely ignored. There are plenty of capable pizza places in our town and I will never order from this location again. They get 1 star because the company has a solid rewards program. See below for the cookie cutter response you should expect, if you ever have an issue with Otto's. They take your complaint and file it in their electronic trash. Zero customer engagement. We love Ottos pizza! We love it so much that I decided to order it for our family gathering a few days before Christmas. We ordered a large pepperoni and onion, a large extra mushroom, a large mashed potato and bacon, a large cauliflower and two salads. The cauliflower was for two vegetarian guests. Delivery was timely and great, but instead of cauliflower we got buffalo chicken and instead of two salads we got one. We noticed the salad right away and the delivery person offered to come back which I wasn't going to do two days before Christmas. I asked him to set up a refund and he said he couldn't. Needless to say our vegetarians went hungry. I let Ottos know via their survey but no apology or refund was extended. Oh my God - there is no better bang for your buck (2$) than this double dough. It is not Chicago-style deep-dish; it is...... ....you know that Far-Side cartoon, where the two gorillas are sitting on the ground, leaning against the tree, with a huge pile of banana peels next to them? And one of them says, "you know, I really love bananas.....I mean heck, we all do - but for me I think it goes so much more beyond that" THAT is this double dough, for me. So....Walk around and choose an ice-cold 4-pack of a juicy hazy double IPA; ask the staff for advice, they're experts. Bring a driver, because the urge to have some immediately is overwhelming - and if you do....you won't be driving distracted......you'll be driving transported. It isn't safe. At home, pop it in the oven (ON A RACK !) at 350, just to keep the crust as it was when it left their oven.....Take out one of the mugs you keep in the freezer, fill it.....gently. The ideal pairing? I've been to OTTO 4 times total. Me and my family order 5-6 pies-- many different toppings. Let me start with the good things, Otto has delicious pizzas and has many unique and fresh topping. It also includes gluten free options which was great for two of the members of my family. It also is inside of a liquor store so we were able to hit the packie while picking up Pies-- two birds with one stone! The brutal downside is that 2 of the 4 times i've been here, my Spice Pulled Pork Pizza(personal favorite highly recommend) has been burnt pretty badly. Now i'm a hungry guy so I powered through but for the steep price can I please get a well cooked Za? Lastly, the pricing is pretty high so expect to ask your boys for a Venmo after ordering here. Well this is my 2nd review...and I did return twice since. My 2nd time around other than the easy ordering online was a completely negative experience. I ordered 2 small pizzas of which I was looking forward to sharing with my neighbor. I tried using the tracking your order ,but it wasn't operating correctly. I phoned and spoke with rude staff who were not helpful in the least. I was told my pizza wasn't ready but I said I'd be there in a few. When I arrived there were several in boxes on a shelf ..after some back and forth I learned that mine were there. I signed my repeipt and left. Drove home and opened them to serve. . completely inedible, each slice a combo of cardboard and rubber. Horrible and inexcusable. I spent over $30 on awful. I called & got absolutely nowhere. So I sent a message to their corporate office with the details. They sent me coupon codes so I could give them another chance... Did I want to? Well I really didn't want to cook tonight and I thought I would try it again... 8 ordered online which again was simple enough. With my past experience I phoned earlier than pick up time to make sure they wouldn't be sitting for who knows how long on a shelf .. the staff member who answered was actually nasty. But did add that they were slicing them now? I said Thank you and id be right there. I walked right in and there they were in the shelf again ..for how long this time? I asked to open the boxes before I signed the receipt and left with them.... So he begrudgingly did with attitude that I won't add in this review. They did seem ok and before I left said thank you. .did I get one in return? If course not! If looks could kill, I wouldn't be writing this .. so again, I got home and opened the boxes to serve. Very disappointed, we have been ordering for years and just recently the quality went down dramatically. Order online is disabled and the person who is taking orders on the phone is rude and seems careless in making side remarks . I used to order the spicy pullporks with scallions and there is barely any meat on it. Meat ball ricotta got the same treatment. These pizzas are no longer worst the extra cost because I suspect there is a new franchise owner who is cutting on cost and still changing full price. So the 2 pizzas tonight cost $38 with tip. I ordered online at 5pm for a 5:55pm pickup. It's Friday after a long week teaching high school kids for both of us. 1st pizza ready at 6. 2nd pizza will be ready in a few minutes (they said). That was a lie. So we waited. And waited. 1st pizza getting cold. Turns out the 2nd was never cooked and was just going in oven at around 6:20. 25 minutes after supposed pick up time. Girl at counter apologized but no convo from manager. Finally at 6:35, after 35 minutes waiting for one pizza, not a fancy dinner, a pizza, after much confusion we get the 2nd pizza. But wait there is more. When we get the much delayed pizza home and try to take a slice, all the toppings slide off, so now it's a deconstructed pizza I guess. 1st pizza is cold. 2nd pizza not really a pizza any more but have eat so I bite into semi raw pizza dough with sliding toppings. Yum. Now if this was the 1st time we waited for pizza at Ottos that would be bad but it was the 2 nd time in the last 2 visits. So I'm done. I don't anticipate a response to this from the company cuz nowadays businesses just say sorry and leave it that but hopefully others will avoid this overpriced pizza with horrible service. read more
