Otto's has a new location but it hasn't stopped it's goal of supplying this town with good gaming options. My boyfriend and I like to pop in here on occasion! He likes to see all the DND books and games. I like to see all the figurines they have on consignment, for great prices I may add. I may not play Warhammer, but I do like how they paint the minis. By the way they also have a good painting selection just like in the old location. They still have the gaming spaces in the back for those who want to play with others. The guys at the front are there to let us know if we need anything. They may not get stock as fast as others but at least they are honest about it. The board game selection is also still one of the best in town! I make a point to bring out of towners here in case they find something they like. Ottos is a gem of a place and one of the few where people can interact and hang out without food and drinks. Support local businesses! read more

Played a Magic: the Gathering tournament here on April 15th. Was a pretty big tournament with over 25 players. (Modern format for people who care.) Tournament started at 7pm and was was ran smoothly. People I played with and talked to were all very nice. Employees were helpful and attentive. A pack was given out for participating which is a nice touch. I guess they aren't into selling Magic singles? The only selection was a few boxes of unsorted commons and a small box of bad rares. Maybe they have a policy of asking to see more of the inventory but I didn't see much else. Lots of Warhammer product in the store if you're into that. I also didn't see an event schedule posted and one wasn't handed out during the night. If you choose to play just call ahead to confirm start time and type of tournament? I might have missed it or it could be posted on their website/socials. They also didn't have snacks or water for sale. Not a big deal as there are many stores within walking distance that sell food/drinks. Just easier to grab something in the store after game instead of walking around. I'll go back to play again. Just wish I could support the store with more than a $5 tournament fee. read more

Went in to get a few practice games of Android:Netrunner under my belt before the store's tourney in a couple weeks. Otto is a great at helping me work on my decks and having a place to relax and hang out with friends. My only complaint is that I live too far away to make it in more often. read more

I used to love this place and Otto is great! However, last time I went there was a particularly rude and dismissive employee that completely ruined my experience. I didn't catch his name but this ponytailed jerk refused to even look at me when I spoke, completely ignoring me in favor of my husband the entire time we were transacting business. There was a LOT of cool stuff in there that I wanted and I went in there intending to drop a lot of money, but with that attitude I'd rather buy it online or at Palladin's. The staff is nice, but as a retro gamer, there are two big flaws for me. One is that I went in the other day and they hardly had any Super Nes, Nes and Genesis games. Not much of anything else either. Second is that Otto charges too much for what he has. Even years ago, I saw Zelda Wind Waker sell here for $50.00. At the time it was for $19.99 everywhere else. I've gone to many of the boardgame/tabletop stores that have opened and closed here in Bakersfield and this one is one of the best. They have a nice big location with plenty of room for whatever game you want to hang out and play. They keep a pretty good stock on boardgames and a lot of the supplies you would need for miniature gaming. The one thing that makes this place so much more welcoming than other game shops is their focus on the customer. I worked in retail for years and as a shopper on of my biggest pet peeves is when whoever is behind the counter doesn't acknowledge new customers. That never happens here they great every customer and are very welcoming to not just the regulars. Im a retro video game collector who grew up in bako, and every time i come by to visit i stop into ottos to see what they have in the retro department. I went in there on may 8th and i found a lot of things ive been looking for. Killer instinct for snes, perfect dark for n64, ninja gaiden for nes, and a few others, i got them all. They even had wind waker for gamecube, and my roommates have been foaming at the mouth looking for that game for the past couple of months and im now on my way back to surprise them with it. As far as prices go, well they're not 'ebay' cheap, but look, ive bought these types of games on ebay before and half the time you get a retro game they either dont work or theyre in terrible condition. This store has a 30 day warranty on retro games and they give them a good wipe down before you walk out with them. On top of that, if the label is somewhat damaged, they take ten percent off the price and if you check into yelp, you get 10 percent off the price for all retro games, so i wound up saving a bunch. Medieval themed with vintage as well as modern systems. Awesome staff, with the owner being a long time manager of all the Gamestops,in town at one time or another. A beautiful game room with theater seating to try out the games before you buy them. All this with board games and a huge collection of Jinx merchandise. A must for any local gamer. read more

Pound for pound The best game store in all of Bakersfield. I live in the north part of Bakersfield and drive across town just to see what they are going to sell next. They have video games from just about every console but this is more than just a video game store. Lots of great role playing games, card games and board games for sale as well. Games like dungeons and dragons, munchkin, game of thrones, warhammer, zombie dice, special editions of risk and much much more. You can even have your kids birthday party at this place. What's cooler than having several xbox's or playstations linked up in one room? You can pwn someone and instantly see the sadness on their face as you rule the gaming world. Don't get me wrong there are a few other gaming stores that I really like but this one by far is my new favorite. I think what sets the store apart from the rest is the knowledgeable and friendly staff. My only regret is that I can only give them 5 stars. Good job guys! read more

They have a large, Bioshock themed gaming room where you can pay by the hour to play. There is also plenty of space for a Table Top gamer to play in the back, be it Dungeons and Dragons or Warhammer 40K! After moving to Bakersfield, this was one of the first places i visited and it was a good choice. I went to just check it out but also had a game in mind that id buy if they had it and they did! The atmosphere is great too - much more organized and neat than other game resale shops I have been to. Unfortunately my rating cannot go below 1. This system is flawed because Otto's deserves a negative rating. The few times I've wandered into this god awful excuse for a store. I have been ignored and out right walked out with a simple hello. I am not asking a lot when I approach a store but I at least expect competitive prices. Its unfortunate that just by asking around you can go right next door and get literally half price on the used games. Which I had to find out first hand because I was put on hold on the phone for 15 minutes, then disconnected. 10 minutes later when I wandered into this barren wasteland it was completely empty. With no reason as to why I got hung up on. I would of loved to give this store my money if they earned it. Its sad at this point I would rather take my money down the street to any chain over this store. read more

I like going here to look for retro games. There are some things here like retron items that you can't buy anywhere else in town. Some games are a tad bit over priced. I saw a broken nes cartridge on sale for I would like to say 15 dollars. As well as some games that are cheaper at gamestop or gamestor. All in all they do have alot of good things in there like toys and stuff. It is worth checking out. My advice though check on ebay to see if you can get something cheaper before buying it here, retro gaming wise. read more

What a cool place. I am 75 year old and not a video gamer, but I could not help but be impressed with this neat ,organized, well displayed store. All the youngsters trying out games and watching their excitement reminded me of my first Commodore Computer. I came to get the scratches removed from my Office Enterprise DVD. It took 10 minute and $ 5.00 and I was on my way home. I tested the disk by making a backup copy without any errors and just saved myself the remaining 42 authorized installs. Thanks Guys! It's the best hobby shop Bakersfield has. That being said, it's a brick and mortar store in a digital warehouse era. They have a decent selection of mainstream stuff. Magic the Gathering and almost everything warhammer. A good deal of DnD stuff and various other table top games. However, they seem to always be sold out of whatever I want other than paint, to top that off they don't price compete at all, they charge the full MSRP for all products. I can't count how much of my business they've lost because of this and can confirm I have saved hundreds of dollars going with Amazon. The staff is super friendly and they're always willing to order whatever you want if it's sold out, however, if you wait for them to get it you can wait a week plus and you will pay full price. Why bother when you can Amazon it to your house and pay 5 dollars less or more? I'd been asking for the same Tank model for about 3 weeks, every time I got a response of how troublesome the carrier of the product was, Amazon had it to my house for 2 dollars less in 48 hours. I saved $45 on the warhammer 40k starter set this way. Ultimately, sadly, this is a great hang out spot, but a mediocre shopping destination. I only buy things here when I want them immediately, like paint colors, otherwise it's just too expensive and troublesome. They host events, endless magic, some age of sigmar and a weekly Saturday wh40k. Sadly they never have surprise or otherwise non recurring events. They may add kill team, but don't expect much else and the best stuff is weekends only. read more

Hands down best kid oriented customer service locations in Bakersfield. This is the second birthday party we have had for our son here and they are stellar. Devin an employee there that assisted with the parties is outstanding and was so helpful and attentive to us and our guests and was so friendly. I definitely recommend this business to anyone looking for a different type of party location. Party room is a little small only seating about 10 kids comfortably but they have tables outside the party room that are able to be used if no one is occupying them. They do all they can to accommodate their customers and we love that! read more
