I went last night and my waiter was Aaron. I was very happy with his service. He was very attentive. So we get our food and I noticed my steak was over cooked. Almost like beef jerky! Ok not like beef jerky but it was obviously over cooked. Aaron came to check on me and I asked him if this plate was mine because my steak is a little over cooked and he agreed with me that it was. He asked me if I would like a new steak. I told him no because I just never send my food back no matter what. He asked if I was sure and I said yes. So he walked away. So I guess Aaron went to tell his Manager and the Manager, Brenan came to me and insisted on giving me a new steak. Again I said no because I just do not like to send my food back. I'm scared they will wax the floor with my steak! LOL So Brenan apologized and really wanted to get me a new steak. He finally talked me into it. As I was waiting, he asked me if I needed anything else and I said no but he was so sweet and brought an Oreo Sundae over to my Daughter. Even though I told my waiter Aaron that I didn't want a new steak, he took the liberty of notifying the manager and immediately wanted to rectify the situation. That shows me that both Aaron and Brenan really cared about how I felt and how my food tasted to me. I never had such great service like that before. This was the absolute worst meal I have ever had. The steak was ordered medium rare, it was not even rare it was raw. We didn't get the second side with the steak. The chicken sandwich was a piece of leather and could not be eaten. The fries were raw.All of the meals were cold except for the kids meal. This was the worst I have ever had. I had dinner here at the bar last night. The food was okay, although it used to be better. I remember coming here years ago, when every bar stool was occupied, and there was a ring of people standing around the bar, waiting for a seat to open up. The service was okay, too...although with three servers behind the bar at one point, you'd think that one of them would have noticed that I had an empty plate in front of me and an empty beer mug that needed refilling. What bothered me the most about last night's visit, however, was when the two bartenders struck up a conversation with the customer sitting next to me and began discussing their experiences with recreational drug use. This bothered me about as much as when I was here on Super Bowl Sunday, and a server turned up the volume to hear the National Anthem...only to have two other servers come over and scold her for it! While I suppose these occurrences are consistent with the "SoCal lifestyle", they are certainly not consistent with my personal lifestyle or values. To be honest, I usually am ready for a let down when I go to one of the restaurant row chains over here. Last weekend I was pleasantly surprised by Outback Steakhouse. I met a friend for dinner and we sat at the bar. The place was packed, we got to sit right away, and we had 2 or 3 games on TV. The bartender puts out these little bar trays that make for a fairly well positioned plate to eat from when served. I order what my friend was having 'cause he recommended it, and nothing was really jumping out off the menu at me. It was the Alice Spring Chicken (I think it's called that) with wild rice. You get this nicely grilled boneless skinless breast of chicken, topped with decent quality bacon and cheese. The wild rice goes very well with the moderately salty chicken dish by seemingly counterbalancing the saltiness with its lighter, herby flavor. If you are a meat and cheese lover, this Alice Spring Chicken dish will probably impress you. Beefless and all. It comes with some sauce that was pretty good too. I actually only had a couple of bites with the sauce. It was good but I was trying cut some fat out somewhere. All this is only $12.99 (I think), which I thought was fair. read more

So first let me say, we are NOT big fans of the chain restaurants that you see in every plaza in America (Olive Garden, BJs, Chili's, etc.) but we DO enjoy this particular location of Outback. What we like is that you can get in & out of there for dinner pretty darn quick, the food is highly decent, and the service is always good. Sometimes we just order the Baked Potato soup and a salad... along with that addictive squaw bread and bam your tummy is good to go. Also, my BF says they have the coldest beer in town hands down (Coors Light on draft in an icy mug - oh yeah)! If you sit in the bar, they have a happy hour menu I think from 4p - 6p. This place is a joke. Evidently, they like segregation. I've gone here numerous times and on every visit, we get taken back to the boonies and seated next to the backdoor or the kitchen--even though there are plenty of open tables throughout the restaurant! On my last visit, we were again taken waaayyyyy back into the corner by the kitchen. Funny thing is, as we were leaving I noticed that the minorities are all in the back corner. Terrible! The rib eye was all fat and grizzle. When I ordered the meal, I specifically asked my waiter to bring a glass of wine WITH my meal. ("I don't give it to me now or I will just drink it before my steak comes," I joked.) My cousin loves this place, so when she visits California, we have to go to an Outback Steakhouse. This time, we went to the Arcadia one. I had the Coconut Shrimp and a small salad with blue cheese ( I substituted that for shredded cheese) and the honey mustard dressing. Delicious! I ate here a couple of nights ago on a whim. I had a bad experience about ten years earlier and passed on this place until now. I can say that night I was really surprised as food and service quality this time were both excellent. We ordered the porterhouse and it was cooked to perfection, very tender and flavorful and probably better than what you'll get at most steak chain restaurants. As it's Outback we also have to order Bloomin' Onion and that again was done very well, tasty and addictive. Service at this branch was excellent, we were promptly taken care of by a server who knew the menu well and who didn't have to be constantly flagged down. If I have any downside it's probably ambiance - Outback hasn't changed their appearance practically since it was started, it felt rather quiet and unexciting inside the place. They'd do a lot better if they can at least liven up the decor or come up with something interesting inside the restaurant. I mean, it's an Australian theme restaurant: there must be something else you can do with it other than put up posters of Kolala Bears and the Sydney Opera House. read more

The quality of food and drinks are good but two stars for the service. It's super bad at the bar area. It took a long time to get our utensils and a long time for the server to bring us water and get our check. It sucks that now we have to ask for utensils if u haven't ordered food yet. My husband ordered a salad and they gave him one fork I had to use my fingers to eat some of his salad. When I asked the waiter for an extra fork they said they only give utensils with the meals and since it was one salad he got one fork. Wth! Right off the bat, even without trying the food yet (first time at this location) I am feeling negative towards this dining experience. The host asked if we'd like a seat on the right against the wall. That seat is fine but I couldn't see where he was pointing at unless I walked two steps over to look down the aisle. Aren't hosts paid to host? You know, lead the customers to the table and show them where you have an availability rather than pointing? We slow stepped towards the table, wondering if he was going to walk us over but he just kept on minding his own business at his podium. Bread came out fast and hot, which was nice. The soups also came out quick, which isn't nice because they seem pre-made and pre-heated. The French Onion and Chicken Tortilla soup looked and tasted like canned soup, except Campbell's is better. The blooming onion was burnt as all hell. Luckily I like a burnt, fried flavor, but my girlfriend found it too salty. It seems like they haven't changed out the oil in a long time (I used to work at my dad's restaurant for years and did some deep frying). By the way the coconut shrimp looked too, the oil probably hasn't been changed for more than two days (it should be changed often). Anything we got that is fried was burnt-looking and greasy. The steak was ordered medium but it looked more medium rare. That's fine but it was bland and runny with watery blood. You can't really go wrong with baked sweet potato so nothing to say there. Overall, the server was very nice, quick, and attentive, but unfortunately her performance cannot compensate for the poor quality of the food (and don't forget the host who forgot how to host). Bread: 10/10 Soups: 2/10 Blooming Onion: 3/10 Steak: 2/10 Coconut Shrimp: 4/10 Baked Sweet Potato: 9/10 Average: 5/10 I would not come back. I would not recommend to friends. Outback Steakhouse is my favourite budget steakhouse, introduced to me by my former room mate Barry when I was living/working at Santa Clara, I've been a longtime fan of the outback special and the prime rib. While most other budget steakhouses don't even bother marinating their steak, and serve the meat plain and sauce less, thus requiring the use of the disgusting concoction known as "steak sauce", outback rubbed their meat with a blend of spice (mostly salt and pepper as far as I can taste). This spice rub goes a long way in improving the taste. The meat is also extremely juicy and usually cooked to order, I mostly get my meat medium rare and they are pretty much always hit it right on the mark, which is more than I can say for certain higher caliber restaurants (will get to them later). Nowadays I mostly get only the outback special or the porterhouse if I am starving. The prime rib which I used to love no longer comes with the usual 2 free sides, so I don't get them anymore, it's not my style to pay extra for things that come for free. Instead of the usual soup or salad and some starch or cooked veggies on the side, I always opt for soup AND salad instead, skipping the carbs completely. Some people may not be aware of this option, but monetarily this is the better option and I have a desperate need to look svelt. Of the various appetizers, I never was a fan of the bloom in' onion, so I never take advantage of the free onion Mondays. However, they do occasionally offer free fried chicken strips (during march madness and certain Thursdays), and I always try my best to go as often as I can for my freebie tricks. The unfunny jimmy Fallon offered free appetizers for a week at outback, unfortunately I did not find out about that till the last day, so I was only able to make use of that generous offer once. I tried the ahi tuna because it was the most expensive appetizer, and was NOT impressed. Their kookaburra wings are my favourite, and I often go there just to get that as afternoon or pre dinner snack. Juicy, mildly spicy, and huge, they are much better than any wings than most wing specialty stores. I usually choose to pay an extra buck for their onion soup unless it is clam chowder on Fridays or if I am in the mood for chicken tortillas soup. The cheese is incredibly chewy in texture and the soup is always wonderfully flavourful and beefy, I had had some disgustingly sweet onion soup at a recent dineLA lunch that made me appreciate outback all the more. The only problem with outback is their tendency to serve all courses to you right at the same time, that is a problem because I am not a particularly fast eater and the cheese on the onion soup takes a while to chew, so the steak can get cold. Better restaurants would take time serving you each course and leaving time between each for you to chat with your mates and enjoy the food properly. I guess that this being more blue collar than real restaurants, their M.O. is to serve you ASAP so as to get your ass out the door as early as possible to squeeze in another table. However, that is a small nitpick and I have no complaints about anything else. read more

Wait was an hour, but they brought around ahi tuna for people to try. Service: The waiter was extremely cold to us. Never checked up on us if we wanted more bread or even if we wanted more water. The waitress who brought us our food just dropped it down all angrily. Food: The complimentary bread was super cold when it came (I remember it used to come warm). For appetizers, we got the wings and the blooming onion because my friend wanted to try the blooming onion since he said it looked good. Both appetizers were overly salty. The blooming onion was super oily and there were still unfried dry batter on it. After seeing the unfried dry batter, I totally lost my appetite. We decided to share a porterhouse because I wasn't that hungry, and it was extremely dry and meh. We ordered it medium rare, but it came out medium almost medium well. We got baked potato and mac and cheese for side and they were both just eh. We didn't even want to get dessert after the whole experience. I now know why my parents never take us back here.
