I got a cheeseburger with cheddar cheese. Medium rare- delicious . I got a tequila shot with no additives anejo tequila. Best , best night ever. Come over and enjoy a lovely early dinner.

Houston's has been one of my favorite steak restaurants in Pasadena for years, and I'm happy to say it is just as good today as I remember. Even though it's part of a chain, the restaurant consistently delivers quality food, reliable service, and a comfortable atmosphere that keeps me coming back. The steak was cooked perfectly and paired well with their classic fries, which were crisp, flavorful, and always a satisfying side. The salad was also exceptionally fresh, with high-quality ingredients that made it feel more thoughtful than a typical steakhouse starter. What I appreciate most about Houston's is its consistency--whether visiting years ago or today, the food quality and service remain dependable. Service was attentive, professional, and efficient throughout the meal. The only downside is the long line at the entrance, even for guests with reservations. However, the staff manages the crowd well, and despite the wait, we were seated earlier than expected. Overall, Houston's continues to be one of the most reliable dining spots in Pasadena, offering a great steakhouse experience with solid food, excellent service, and a level of consistency that is increasingly hard to find.

This was my first time at any of the Hillstone restaurants and it did not disappoint. We had reservations and was seated relatively quickly, highly recommend making a reservation. We absolutely loved everything we ordered: -nigiri plate -rotisserie chicken -prime rib sandwich Everything tasted amazing (surprisingly the sushi was delicious!). We got cocktails and mid-cocktail the server came by and refreshed my martini glass to a cold one. The food quality and the service made our first visit so great that we are excited to try the other Hillstone restaurants.

We made dinner reservations for Friday and found free parking pretty easily in their lot. Upon check in we were sat within 5min. Our waiter Madison was very attentive and had great recommendations! We tried the Hawaiian ribeye (10/10!) and the nigiri plate - both steak and fish were smooth like butter! Their chardonnay and hot fudge sundae were delicious as well. Will definitely come back for another date night!

What a fantastic birthday surprise! My girlfriend blindfolded me and refused to tell me where we were going for my 49th birthday. I had no idea what to expect, but wow... she absolutely nailed it! The pineapple ribeye was amazing packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The wood-grilled ribeye never fails: tender, juicy, and absolutely phenomenal. Every bite was worth it. Of course, I had to pair it with their regular margarita, and as always, it did not disappoint. Consistently delicious every time. Great food, great drinks, and an unforgettable birthday experience. My love made an excellent choice, and this place helped make the celebration even more special. We'll definitely be back!

I came here for an early Valentine dinner but everyone seem to have the same idea as us so the wait was long. Note to self: Make a reservation next time. While waiting, there was a waitress who took drinks orders for people waiting. Other than the long wait, when my bf and I got seated, we were seated at the Bar. I ordered the Hawaiian steak and he ordered the wood grilled ribeye. I kept stealing my boyfriend's fries, the baked potato was alright. However for the medium Hawaiian steak, I ordered it was really good, the marinate was sweet and flavorful. My bf's wood grilled steak was very juicy. The service was friendly and kept asking us if we needed anything.

We can't say no to Houston's, it's worth the wait. We also live the bar seating if it's only my husband and I. No matter where you sit, you always get excellent service. Food is always amazing and drink of course when you sit down first thing is to order the grilled artichokes omg I had the crispy chicken sandwich on a house made bread wow so good and I ate it all excellent food, service and location.

I wish Yelp had half ratings because I would give this place a 3.5. Some dishes were great but others fell short. Reservations are a must, it gets busy even for lunch. And honestly if I were to come back, I would only go for dinner. The price you pay is too high for lunch. Inside is dimly lit, another reason it's better to go for dinner, has a more romantic vibe. Service was really good 5/5. We got some sushi and the spinach dip. I would skip the sushi, it was mediocre, not worth the price. Spinach dip as also just ok. They can do without the sour cream on the side. Main dish which was the sole was actually really good. Amazing flavor, I would recommend it for sure!

I probably would have given the restaurant a 3.5 but the main entrees were delicious. Okay, so I think the appetizers and sushi were lacking, especially for the price. The layered sushi roll is 5 pieces of low quality sushi. The spinach dip is like eating Applebee's spinach dip. I was scared our main dishes were going to be similar. Fortunately, the main dishes were great. We ordered the Hawaiian steak, which was seasoned and cooked well. The prime rib sandwich was delicious as well. Don't waste money on the appetizers or sushi.

My wife and I came to Houston's for my birthday dinner, but we've actually been here many times because the food, service, and ambience are consistently top notch. Our go-to dishes are the Hawaiian Steak (medium rare) and either the Baby Back Ribs or the French Dip. The Hawaiian Steak is super juicy and flavorful, and the loaded baked potato is to die for. The Baby Back Ribs have a great barbecue flavor with a nice crisp texture, and the fries are always solid. The beef in the French Dip is also really tender and moist, which makes it another favorite. The service is excellent, from the hosts at the front to the wait staff. Everyone is friendly and attentive. The ambience is modern and dimly lit, which makes it a great spot for a date night or special occasion. Another plus is the free parking lot with plenty of spaces, which is always convenient. It does get pretty busy, so I'd recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Overall, Houston's is one of those places that's consistently good, which is why we keep coming back.

Spinach Artichoke Dip (tortilla chips, salsa and sour cream)

Reservations were easy and was made directly through their website (https://houstons.com/locations/pasadena/). I made reservations the night before for a late lunch and was able to lock one in. We were a couple of minutes early and they already had a table set up for me and my wife. Leilani was our server and she was simply amazing! From the time we sat down, to ordering and food arriving to our table, everything was quick. Our go to items are always the Pan-Asian Noodle Salad and The Hawaiian (medium-rare). Food was made-to-order and portions were large enough to share between the both of us. The Spinach Artichoke dip is a must for us, but we were so full trying to finish everything. EVERYTHING was delicious! Overall, the staff was extremely attentive and were always checking in on us to see if we needed anything. At one point, we ran out of chips for the artichoke dip and they brought some more for us immediately. Houston's is always a nice treat for us when in the area and we can't wait to come back again!

We've been coming here since the late '90s, and it continues to be one of our favorite places. The food, drinks, and atmosphere have always been consistently great, making it the perfect spot for any occasion. This visit was especially memorable as we celebrated the retirement of a dear friend, and everything made the evening even more special. It's always a pleasure coming back, and we highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food, drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere!

    Key lime pie

The Hawaiian ribeye flavor is on point, but 80% was fat which was dissatisfying. If this steak was edible, I'd definitely be able to recommend it. Until then I'm not sure it's worth the price. Hopefully they can step it up with the quality of their ribeye because it's an amazing flavor. The artichoke and the key lime pie were both amazing, and definitely recommend those items. Maybe I got a bad cut? Perhaps I'll go back to try it again and hopefully have better luck with the Hawaiian ribeye..

    Is there motorcycle parking?

I think there is. Their parking lot is ginormous.

Can it accommodate a party of 6?

The restaurant is styled for more intimate gatherings. Four are comfortably seated in some of the larger booths, six would be a squeeze. You can call to ask if their large circular booth would hold 6

Is there any dress code? Is jeans acceptable?

Is it true that Houston does not allow you to dine in when you have a family or party of more than 4 people??? I just called to make a reservation & a female hostess said they do not allow parties of more than 4 with or without reservations to dine.

Yes, not sure why, but the Pasadena restaurant has tables that are fastened to the floor which prevents multiple tables from being moved in together for larger groups. So, the layout is set up for tables with two to four chairs. When it's crowded… Read more

    Is the restaurant dog friendly?

Service animals only, but registered service animals, not some barking or easily distracted animal posing as one (which is a felony)

Are there high chairs now or a kids menu?

No there is not no high chairs or kid menus

Do you have to make a reservation or is walk ins fine?

With a reservation you will not have to wait if you just walk in it depends on how busy the restaurant is at the time you decide to go

Can my gf and I pop in here for a drink at the bar without having dinner? Is it realistic to think we could get a seat at the bar?…

    Yes, you can no issue.

Can you accommodate a party of 20?

No. You can reserve a table for two or for four, but not for a table of 6 which is walk-in (first come first serve) only. Other than those tables, there is seating at the bar.

Do they do anything special for birthdays or anniversaries?

Nothing crazy the regular like other restaurants but it's a treat to go there and I just visited the Irvine one where they had their key lime pie .... OMG now I felt like it was my birthday cause I got an extra slice to go.

Is there outdoor seating at the restaurant right now?

No unfortunately they do not. I'd go early or for lunch maybe not as crowded. But there is a bar so some people come in just to sit and have a drink. Next time would not sit so close to bar.

I was pleasantly surprised at the welcoming staff and warm ambiance. Going to slide one complaint in here, the noise level in the upstairs portion of the restaurant is LOUD. We sat upstairs and it was pretty difficult to hear my friends talk from just across the table. We powered through, and by the second half of our meal, most diners had finished and left us upstairs with only a couple of lingering parties. THEN this place became GREAT! Here's all that we stuffed ourselves with during the cacophony of chatter: flaky buttermilk biscuits, honey butter (3pc; please allow 20 minutes) - totally worth the 20 mins!! Super buttery and flaky, I might go back JUST FOR THIS! crispy calamari, horseradish cocktail sauce - great little kick in the sauce. Perfectly lightly battered. fideos, clams, chorizo, saffron, sweet sherry aïoli - mmmm, this was delicious. The Spanish chorizo enhanced the broth with a good saltiness. white shrimp from the griddle, aïoli - this was my favorite. The shrimp was not overcooked and peeled easily. The flavor was good enough to slurp the juices out. single burger, prime chuck, tillamook cheddar, dijonaise, egg brioche bun & crispy french fries - good meaty burger, love the dijonaise, GREAT shoestring fries. Parking is a little challenging during the day, not so bad in the evening. It's South Pas, a little neighborhood walk after dinner never hurts.

I wasn't super hungry and decided to order more of the sides. 1) French Fries with some skin on, looking rustic, had a touch of that ineffable earthy potato flavour. Asked for extra crispy, but just got a bit crispy so their default fries must be rather limp. Standard ketchup in a steel ramekin. 2) Roasted Golden Beet & Arrugula Salad had sweet, softer, smooth texture, Arrugula had a fibrous, good green herbal, peanut oil scented flavour. Not too funky, creamy goat cheese. Roasted walnut halves. All napped with a subtle Champagne Vinaigrette. Portion was about half of what would be expected in other comparable restaurants. 3) Bread Pudding: The bread was spongy, moist, eggy almost like a flan but lacked a deeper dairy, milkiness as well as lack of hints of warm spices such as cinnamon, allspice, ginger, cloves. ARTICHOKES: 7/10 Very dry. We had to replace it with another appetizer... SPINACH DIP: 9/10 Delicious!!! The dip's flavor and texture really stood out... AMBIANCE: 10/10 Nice and a bit dimmed ambiance. We sat at a circular table for a part of 6 on the first floor. It felt really nice and intimate and you can watch the game on the TV screen as well... They were warm (not hot) and it was difficult to get any meat off of them. I rarely ask for something to be sent back but especially for the price point here, these were not OK. We let them know that they were undercooked. The chokes were gone for a while and when they came back they were slightly better so we just made due and realized that they just weren't very good artichokes. Also, though the heart was good, the flavor of the leaves was not great and the dipping sauce was nothing special. They were covered with diced onions for some reason. When it's $21 for three halves, it was very disappointing.

Honestly, so surprised to find a restaurant like this in the middle of Alhambra. For appetizer, we really enjoyed the Chicken Liver Mousse. The house-made seasonal jam is so good (we just had strawberry) and pairs really well with the mousse. For brunch, we got the Grass-fed Hangar Steak Breakfast Plate which is an elevated version of your typical breakfast staples. Amazing flavor and they cook the steak perfectly every time. We also tried one of their seasonal desserts and it is a must-have. I forgot the name, but it was a melon sorbet paired with fresh mangoes, coconut milk, and sago. Super unique and refreshing. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for an upscale restaurant with a casual feel. Service is amazing, especially if you have Kai. We look forward to visiting again soon to try their dinner menu.

They don't take reservations for brunch, but they have a Yelp waitlist you can join ahead of time. There was only around a 15 min wait for us when we went on a Sunday for brunch. Service was friendly and attentive, and the dishes we tried were all delicious and thoughtfully prepared. - Cold sesame noodles - so yummy and flavorful! The sesame sauce was so good and nutty and the chili crisp added a nice extra kick. A big portion size so great for sharing too - Breakfast plate - comes with your choice of protein, so we got the grass-fed hanger steak. I love their take on the hash brown - it was hearty and thick with a delightfully crispy exterior - Cornmeal mochi pancake - was so excited to try this one! Loved the mochi texture with the cornmeal flavor, and it was not overly sweet or heavy. Very sharable! Parking: there's a nearby parking structure with free parking as well as an open parking lot directly behind the restaurant

I've heard some good things about this place and from other fellow yelpers friends, it must be…read moreworth it. Had a dinner reservation with some girlfriends celebrating two of their birthdays. The restaurant itself isn't too big but it does a pack a nice punch. Cute patio out front that takes some of the sidewalks and streets. Plenty of heat lamps which helped with the chilly nights. We got seated at one of the tables on the patios which was nice. Didn't really utilize inside area except for the restroom which it's quite cute in there. The rooms were pretty well decorated and executed. Nice bar area too. Like mentioned, we got seated on the patio and the heat lamps were great. Down to the menus, it's quite limited on dishes. Seemed like there were more shared plates versus the entrees. Drinks, it was fairly decent with their cocktails and wine. Service at the beginning was great. The staff were amazing and very friendly. We didn't order right away as we were still waiting for the last one to show. But did start off with some drinks. It didn't take that long for the first round which was nice. Food wise, the shared plate was a mixture of everything. Some of the olives, which is exactly what it is. The Belgian fries, nice thick cut fries with shredded pecorino cheese and a nice aioli sauce. We ended up getting a second order of it. The albacore tuna crudo was a hit which was really tasty. Chili ginger relish, mint and shallot, can't go wrong with that. Lastly the meatballs, tasty and very great for sharing. Entrees, the pan seared sea bass which I loved. Portion is pretty tiny which also seemed like they were a shared plate. Almost tapas styled. Nice chimichurri sauce and a side salad. The chicken Milanese also with a side salad of arugula. Simple dish but quite tasty. One of the salads that was somewhat hyped up by the waitress but it was just a salad. Decent but nothing major to rave about...lol... also the confit oyster mushrooms was major hit. Something that simple but quite tasty. And lastly the pan con tomate, rustic sourdough with tomatoes and burrata. Tasty as well. Overall the meal was good. From there, the second round of drinks did take a long time to arrive and with then plates that we shared, trying to get someone to clear the plates was another thing. Took a long for someone to clear the table before more items came. Even when the entrees came, all the empty starter plates were still there. And if someone did clear the plates, some was still left on the table. Finishing off the night, we did have the dessert which we tried all three. As it was two of our girlfriends birthday, they brought out a little bubbly for us to celebrate with the dessert. That was quite sweet and nice. Honestly opinion with the dessert, they were just ok. Nothing major to rave about. We tried all three on the menu and they were just ok. Overall, the food was great. Service was nice and the staffs were all very friendly. It did take a while for plates to get cleared from the table and second round did take a while, but it was manageable. It was a sweet gesture with the bubbly with the dessert which was greatly appreciated. The place is nice and great for catching up. Menu is limited and portions are quite small. You would have to get a good amount for sharing. Entrees, depending on what you order is small as well. But we enjoyed ourself.

Come here for the drinks, vibes and brunch…read more Their breakfast options are better than their dinner service. I can't eat here for dinner as a vegetarian, they have little to no options. Would it kill them to add a veggie burger? Service is consistently awful. I've been here half a dozen times and I've never had good service. Drinks and water are never refilled unless I ask. It takes forever to get our order and once we do our server disappears. Seriously so bad. But I keep coming back for their good food.
