We went back here after speaking with Beth. They gave us a meal to make up for the other two times we were there, when they were out of prime rib, and one other time when the onion was soggy/greasy. They have gotten some new people in since that time, and the food was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING this time. I'm a little tardy in writing this as it was a few months ago, but feel if I voice my thoughts hopefully it will help improve on the details that can make or break a decent dining experience. First of all, atmosphere: of course no surprises. All Outbacks pretty much the same and clean with lots of TVs at the bar. I went with a friend that was treating so I was hesitant to say anything, at first, then thought, man this is not as good as it should be. But nice as the bartenders were they sorta all disappeared or were so busy they never checked back to see how things were. I ordered their wedge salad with blue cheese, tomato, onion and bacon, with iceberg lettuce. I used to have them there before years ago and they were good. They were back for a limited time so my expectations were for a very good wedge salad. This was not. It was swimming in blue cheese that made the lettuce kinda soggy. When I ordered the waiter said I'll bring you extra with more of the bigger pieces of cheese on the side. I didn't need it as it was not brimming with blue cheese. Not even a little. The bacon and I'm not exaggerating were four-5 tiny tiny hard crumbles and the lettuce must have been rinsed but not dried because there was water in the bottom making the dressing even runnier. I also got a baked potato with sour cream and butter. It too for some reason seemed soggy and had a weird flavor. I ate about 1/3 of it and 1/3 the salad but no one asked why I didn't seem to like it when they came to get the plates. My friend ordered the whole slab of ribs and only ate half. Said they were fine just not as hungry as usual. The drinks were good. They just need to ask if everything is to your liking after you've had a chance to taste things a while and to work on the prep of things so they are as they should be. read more

We had a great time at Outback tonight. We stopped by on a whim, and shared the 3 course meal with French onion soup, medium rare sirloin, and cheesecake. Everything was delicious. The steak was cooked accurately medium rare, and the side of broccoli was flavorful and well-cooked. However, the service was better! Our server was sweet, fast, and attentive. Outback's are pretty standard across the board when it comes to the quality of the food, the variants are the cleanliness of the restaurant, the service, and the success of cooking steaks to temperature. The service was above and beyond. We were able to call ahead and get reservations on graduation weekend (they don't typically take reservations). From our interactions with the hostess to a manager checking in on our food, they were nothing but kind and patient on a busy and stressful weekend. The restaurant and bathrooms were decently clean and I have no complaints with that. I got the Chicken on the Barbie and the potato. The chicken was juicy, tender, and flavorful (5/5). The potatoes were good on the inside, but it's not always the inside that counts when the potato skins are seasoned to perfection. It seemed like the potato's were overcooked as the skins were hard to cut. We also got a filet mignon with Mac & cheese. The steak was cooked inconsistently but the server swooped in to quickly deal with the situation. She offered the steak be recooked to eat here or to go. We think this could be largely due to the kitchen being overwhelmed with orders on such a big weekend, and this would not deter us from going back in the future! read more

Every time we come here we are welcomed by upbeat and outgoing hostesses. Our servers have always been very attentive and timely to our needs and we receive our food very quickly. The managers are what really sets the visit off, periodically throughout every visit they come around to check on you and will strike up conversation and are genuinely friendly. Gene is by far the best manager I have ever had interactions with. There is a reason the parking lot stays packed here. I would rather eat here over Texas Roadhouse any day! read more

My son and I ordered the same thing (steak and shrimp pasta) the steak was disgusting and was so fatty it made me want to be sick! He was very pleasant and nice but would forget everything we asked for and we'd have to wait until we saw him again to ask for it again and hope that we got it. Not sure what happened, but my medium cooked ribeye was so dry and old. The outer layer was overcooked to well done, but the inner layer was okay. It is still very dry. The blooming onion was burnt. My wife had sirloin, which was good. The Sydney Mushroom a was good also. Overall experience was not good. No idea how you can make a medium cooked ribeye so dry and lousy, and it was not even hot but room temperature steak, disgusting. The supervisor told me she was going to take the ribeye off, but the waiter only gave me a discount. I only had two bites of that ribeye, and it was so bad that I couldn't eat anymore. Before I left, I called our waiter, he looked at me, and then he quickly turned to the close table to him. After he finished with that table, he stood there for a few seconds like he was debating if he wanted to help me or not, and he chose to ignore me, even the busboy was looking at him. This is one of the primary restaurants that my family dines in and carries out when visiting Christiansburg. Convenience has been a primary reason, but not the only reason. The food has been better than average and they are efficient in getting food out to the floor. What gets them to a 4 star review is their awesome customer service that I have seen time after time after time. The location on Peppers Ferry is the outskirts of town by hotel row. We typically stay at the Hampton Inn which is walking distance. The lot has always been tidy. On busy weekends parking is a challenge. They also have a curb side pick up which is exactly that. I have found no designated spaces and use this service frequently. It gets pretty inane with cars trying to park for staff to run the order out. The interior is typical Outback. I think the floor plan is identical on everyone. If not than it's the same as older plans. Dark wood, booths, bar in the center and restrooms in rear. Dining in experiences have been stronger than take out with order accuracy. Take-out has had issues which I will save and discuss. Service has been fantastic either way. The staff really clicks and works hard to please their customers. I have also had at least one good bar experience. So for me service is a 4.5. The food has always come correctly when eating in. Steaks hot and cooked correctly and salads fresh and yum! Sides of bake potatoes and veggies have been good. The quality of beef is good and my family has enjoyed the filets. Overall food 3.5. I saved the most critical aspect for last. The curbside pick up has been hit or miss. More hit, but the misses are huge when your in a hurry. The last issue was with a pick up using online ordering for the first time. Unfortunately it did not go well and some how it did not process. It was Saturday night around 830 and they were packed!!! We were in a hurry to get my son dinner and sleep after swimming finals. So to say we were frustrated is an understatement. The staff quickly got a manager to intervene without asking and kept me calm. That's impressive! Service Manager Anna Bowling immediately jumped into action to investigate. Once she learned of the mistake she quickly got the three entrees into the kitchen to expedite. She personally oversaw the order and provided updates. About 25 minutes later the order was out. We were delayed over 30 minutes total. Anna comped the entire order amounting to $50+ and apologized. This is what real customer service looks like. This is what taking responsibility looks like. Outback should be very proud of her leadership. There was never any hesitation, she immediately focused on fixing the problem. The staff got a $20 tip and deserved it. After around a dozen visits to the Christiansburg Outback we are loyal customers. The online/curbside pick-up can be improved for quality control. For starters when I first came into the restaurant I was greeted by a host that had on a belly first which I thought was very unprofessional. She also didn't have a very nice tone on her. Then got sat in a booth in the bar area which the bartender took her time greeting me. She seemed more worried about her coworkers who was standing around the bar not doing anything. She took forever to get me my lunch and then had to ask twice for the check since I was in a hurry on my lunch break. I do not recommend coming in when there's a skinny blonde working bar. She also never give her name until I saw it on the check! Please hire some better hosts and bartenders before I come in again! Well, okay, she may have but they fixed a sirloin. After several awkward silences and asking if we were sure it was a sirloin, she said she guessed she could get her manager. Several times we needed something, but had to wait to find our waitress. However, the waitress was extremely pleasant and quickly got us what we needed - so no complaints about our waitress. It's Outback. It's great. Not much more to say. If you like Outback, you will like this location. The steaks are always cooked perfectly and the side portions are robust. The loaded mashed potatoes are delicious, and the house salad with their tomato dressing is refreshing. The bloomin burger was pretty damn good too! We tend to do curbside pickup due to COVID and it's always quick and easy--and pretty cheap for the amount of good food you're getting. I feel like a visit to Outback Steakhouse is a right of passage. The "Blooming Onion" is exactly "as seen on tv". If fried onion is your thing, the flavor is nice and strong. For my entree I got the Filet Mignon and Lobster tail. The filet was cooked a perfect medium rare. The lobster tail was tender. For my sides I got the sweet potato with cinnamon and sugar. The sweet potato is something I will definitely be trying at home. Second, Zach, the waiter recommended broccoli. At first, I said "broccoli?", but I finally understood when I saw it arriving at everyone else's table. It is huge, fresh, and nicely seasoned.
