    Outback in Covington

My wife and I stopped for a weekday lunch at Outback in Covington. Burgers and sides were all good and service was excellent. Facilities were clean and well maintained, and ambiance was laid back and welcoming. I'm surprised at some of the low scores this location has received, as we have visited several times and have always had good experiences.

Very delicious food! Toowoomba salmon is a MUST TRY! It was hot & fresh! I chose not to have the rice and ordered steamed broccoli and a house salad with it. The server was very fast and friendly. Very attentive. Wished I could remember his name. The atmosphere was pleasant the music was not too loud. Great place to eat!

Untouched Wedge Salad from Outback Covington

I ordered a wedge salad to go and that is what I received. A brownish old lettuce that could give you E Coli. It made me wonder if they ever wash their lettuce because it seemed to me that they don't care about their customers. Too bad, I love their wedge salad but now, I'm afraid to get them again because they serve dirty brown lettuce in their salad.

I won't be back to this place the food is not very good and the manager is loud really makes you uncomfortable having to be here so I definitely will not be back backIn addition to that they're still giving salt and pepper in the military packets add an international steakhouse seriously?

I don't like much there but the well-done stack is amazing and so is the pumpernickel bread.

We were seated in the bar area where there were about 5 televisions on. Not what I expected from a fine dining restaurant. First the cocktail came out un-drinkable, that was fixed. We ordered the turtle soup and seafood gumbo, they were good. Less than 10 minutes after we ordered the meal it came out, it was like they were rushing us out. The steaks we ordered cooked medium were purplish blue in the middle. I showed it to the waitress and asked if that was their medium, she apologized and said no. They were brought back to the kitchen and of course now overcooked, because you can't really fix that. We ordered potatoes au gratin they were good. We ordered the brussels sprouts, which the waitress recommended. They tasted like overcooked boiled brussels that had been scooped out of a cafeteria tray after swimming all day in soggy bacon. Gross! They are a steak house, if you can't get that right...! The waitress did remove the un-edible brussels from the bill. There are too many wonderful restaurants in downtown Covington that don't claim to be steakhouses and can do them much better! I didn't see one local old Covington person in there which was very telling. Such a shame, they used to be so good! Guess this will go the way of the Winner's Circle.

This upscale Steakhouse is family friendly and intimate for special occasions. Everything about our experience felt "Big city" without being stuffy. This week we found Escargot added to the appetizer menu, as well as an Eggplant Napolean. Both were perfectly prepared and presented. My wife had the Sea Bass and I had Steak. The prices are competitive for the Mandeville, Covington and Madisonville areas. The Menu, Food quality and presentation as well as the service and ambiance make this a destination restaurant for your special occasion.

The tables all had white linens on them and the wait staff were all dressed up in black suits. Our waiter greeted us and took our order. The complimentary bread came out perfect and warm. The appetizer was the corn and crab bisque, which was outstanding. It was my favorite thing I ate here and I think this bisque is probably top 3 in the New Orleans area. The entrees were steak of course, I got the filet, hubs got the ribeye. I think both were beautifully cooked and tasted very good. We also ordered the steamed broccoli and au gratin as sides. Both were ok. I did like the extensive wine list, that included Garnacha, which is rare I find. I thought it was a nice, enjoyable meal with exquisite service and elegant ambience. I do not think it is the best steakhouse in the New Orleans area, but it might be the best on the Northshore.

I'm gluten-intolerant and thought the menu would be pasta, pasta and more pasta. Not the case! Our server, Shelby, helped me find a few really good choices and I went with the fish and grits (called something else on the menu). It was outstanding. Rich but not too rich. Large enough portion that I took half home. One friend had the fried chicken and raved about it. (Order early because it takes time.) Another had fried cheese ravioli Several had the Mac and cheese and everybody raved about their dishes. Took home some seafood-stuffed cornbread for my husband. The atmosphere adds to the experience. It's right in the heart of Historic Downtown Covington at the trailhead with huge windows and natural light. Really lovely! I typically go here every year for my birthday and then we typically make it back another time or two throughout the year. I always get the pork chop, as you can tell from the photos I uploaded which are all from different visits. The menu here is always changing which can sometimes be a bad thing however, all the new items and different preparations of the main stays are always delicious. The only bad thing about a menu that changes is your favorite dish may not always be available. Luckily, at this place trying something new typically pays off. I have only gotten something other than pork chop once and it was a braised beef dish, which was great. My Wife typically gets a pasta dish which is always fantastic. We typically try a new app or two along with a salad. Their salads are always changing but the flavor combinations they come up with are awesome. We had a salad one time with Gorgonzola, apple, shallot, candied pecans and a vinaigrette that was one of the best salads we ever had. Their desserts also change and some of them are seasonal. One visit they had a pistachio cheesecake available, which was 10/10. Last year their seasonal sorbet was muscadine, also 10/10. Their wine selection is great and the service is always the best! Food critics typically say a restaurant that gets a 9 out of 10 or higher is worth more than an hour long wait or drive that is a few hours. This place hits that mark for my Wife and I.
