Garcia's in Covington has a great atmosphere with décor that feels a little more upscale than your typical Mexican restaurant. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it a pleasant spot to enjoy a meal. The food delivered across the board. The fajitas came out sizzling hot and seasoned well, and the a la carte taco was fresh and tasty. The guacamole, while decent, didn't have much kick to it, but the bean dip and salsa with chips was excellent and one of the highlights while waiting on the entree. Where Garcia's fell short was with the service today . We experienced a long wait both when we first sat and again when trying to get the check. While the staff was polite, the delays took away from the otherwise solid experience. According to restaurant association standards, initial wait times are considered the biggest dissatisfier for restaurants--and unfortunately, that was exactly the case here. On top of that, the menu is a tad on the pricey side compared to other Mexican spots in the area. Hands down some of the better Mexican cuisine I've tried across the states. We stopped by on our way home from FL to TX on a whim and will be returning even with a 5.5hr. drive to get here. We were greeted by the owner herself and given a background on the area and culture of the restaurant. Which was a huge bonus since they were short staffed. The atmosphere was amazing with low music and just enough warm lighting to make us feel comfortable engorging on Mexican food. Our party of six dined at the Covington location for lunch. Our bill was over $100. The food was decent; the service was alright. I requested one bill for which I was paying. My personal standard tip is 20% and I aimed for that; however, I was $2.00 short of giving the full 20%. I had a large bill in my purse but did not want the waitress to have to break it for a mere $2.00. As our party was leaving the restaurant, I went to the bathroom. Imagine my shock when "Vanessa" the waitress was waiting for me as I exited the bathroom. She confronted me about "shorting" her on the tip. She said "We require 20% tip" (if this was the case, why does Garcia's not include it on the bill?). I told her I only had a large bill remaining in my purse and wanted to avoid breaking it for a mere $2.00. Her response was, "I have change." So she led me to a podium nearby where she apparently keeps cash and changed out my large bill. I was in such shock, I gave her an additional $10 tip. When I returned to my party waiting outside, everyone was shocked, not only that this waitress had the audacity to accost me for more money but to confront me as I exited the bathroom. Five of us drove close to an hour to meet here for lunch. This was totally unprofessional and NONE of us will be back. read more

Garcia's may have moved to a fancier location, but they still do a very good job at putting out good, high quality food. For many years Garcia's was my go-to Mexican restaurant on the northshore. When they decided to move to the old Bonefish location, I was a little sad. I really liked the old place. Now that I have been, I wish I had checked it out sooner. If you had ever been to Bonefish, the layout is the same. There is a moderately sized bar area where you can dine, or just have drinks. If there is a wait, this would be the best place to sit. I visited on a weekend for lunch. There was no wait and service was prompt and friendly. Garcia's starts you off with a very good salsa and refried beans with your chips. The beans are a very nice addition that most restaurants don't provide. I highly recommend you also start with an order of their white queso. It is one of my favorite things to dip chips into. For my entree I ordered the steak fajitas. The steak was tender and had a great grilled taste. Even though I ordered from the lunch menu, the portion was very large. There were enough meat, vegetables and toppings for nearly four full tortillas full. One order would probably be enough for two people. I really like Garcia's. If you are looking for good Mexican food in a casual environment, I think you should give it a try. read more

Used to love this place, but it seems over time that as the prices go up, the food quality and service goes down. Our last visit was $80 bucks including tip for a table of four with no alcohol ordered and it was just average. To add insult to injury, they wanted to charge us for a bag of chips to go, so we just ended up stuffing the chips we already had into a styrofoam container. So I just moved here from southern California. The Mexican food there is some of the Best in this country. Mexican food is regional just like most other ethnic countries. Your preference for the type of food you like and the sauce is just that, your preference. I like the food here. It is good and well prepared The tamales are not what I am used to but people from this area who grew up on Manuel s tamales will like them. They are good. I have eaten here twice and enjoyed the food. This is more of a tex mex place which people from Texas and Louisiana are used to. I was very disappointed the food was not as good as the one across the lake. For the price it wasn't that good and we were with a big party. They were out of things for some people like fries. The service was good but my husband asked for lemon to no avail. The dips and chips were great But it was a lot of people & one table of 15 for one waitress she did a good job. By far the rudest management/ownership I have ever seen. My family and I chose to eat at Garcias on a night that was supposed to be a special evening. We even called ahead to insure that would have no problem accommodating our party of 13. We sat around 5:15, and then an around an hour and 15 min later was asked to leave by the owner. Not because we were causing issues, or being obnoxious, but because she wanted to seat more people. My wife and I just assumed we were leaving because some of our family was ready to go. However when we stepped outside, we found out the real reason. My wife went to ask the owner why she would request guest to leave under the circumstances, and was confronted by the rudest restaurant owner in Louisiana. She got confrontational with my wife and when she stepped outside, the owner pursued her. I looked back to see this woman in my wife's faces screaming about her 40 year old business. It is a shame that her in laws are connected to this restaurant. I have attended Casa Garcia for years, with only the best of memories. But this branch of the main restaurant is a far from the original. I felt like I was watching an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. Gordon wants to know the problem... well Gordon we don't know the problem, everyone loves the food, but we only get bad reviews. "Cut to yelp reviews of people commenting on Connie's behavior at the restaurant" Don't worry, I know your coming to defend yourself. You do it across every review platform. For our Family get together some members of our group drove over and hour to meet us at Garcia's , we had a reservation , we thought we did everything right, well Mrs Connie one of the owners approached our table and asked us if we could please rap it up when she notice the waiter remove not all the plates just some because we still had at the other end of the table plates with food still on plates she had no idea if they had finished eating , her reason they needed the table, we had only been there for and hour and half total ! and by the way it took 45 minutes to get our food ....so no we did not over stay for a group of 13 , they did make good money from our big group . This lady Mrs Connie never apologized when she was made aware that it was wrong what she did , she tried to excuse her unprofessional behavior by saying this is a small business shame on us for getting upset at her request to leave ! she made it very uncomfortable for our group . Our get together was a night to help our father in law, this was his first wedding anniversary without my mother in law , we wanted to be together as a family and just have dinner with love ones in a nice place with food that he enjoys , sadly the evening ended with a very unpleasant event that was unprofessional, uncomfortable, unnecessary and her attitude at the end after she was approached by a family member in private was just as unprofessional as her request.
