We were in Indianapolis for a seminar and after came to the Outback for a nice dinner. This steakhouse is very popular and we did a online check in to eliminate the waiting time on a Saturday night. We still had a bit of a wait but it was worth it. We had the pecan encrusted blue cheese salad my husband and myself and the baked potato. My son had the regular house salad and chicken tenders and fries. We had the rib-eye and it was really juicy tender and delicious! Outback is a very good steakhouse and I've always liked dining here. I hadn't in a long time and had a craving for it. This particular location has been remodeled. The decor, seating, feel and look is all very modern now. The temperature inside was insanely cold. Our server was cool and friendly. Outback serves complimentary honey wheat bread and butter. This sets them apart from other steakhouses. The bread always comes to your table hot, soft and delicious. Even with a gluten intolerance, I still couldn't resist eating a couple of slices. Yum! I always start with my favorite appetizer, 'Grilled Shrimp on the Barbie'. It has always been a tasty appetizer and now they've added cherry tomatoes and cheese that makes it even more flavorful. I enjoyed the 'Drover's Platter' that includes a half slab of baby back ribs and wood-fire grilled chicken breast. I had a baked potato and broccoli as my sides. The ribs are juicy, tender and fall off the bone. With the added tasty barbeque sauce, the ribs are simply finger lickin good . The chicken is equally good and grilled to perfection. I stopped by Outback on my way home to get takeout. It was a last-minute decision, so I just waited while it was prepared. Andrew (who is an exemplary employee) helped me, and I can say with complete confidence that he is the best hospitality worker I've encountered in the 3 years since I moved here. He was friendly and accommodating, offering suggestions to improve the quality of our meal, all the while having a genuine conversation with me. As a former bartender, I sincerely appreciate his "above and beyond" approach to hospitality. I am certain that Andrew is a rare find. I called the night before and the phone rang for 5 minutes before someone finally answered it and then hung up on me so I just gave up. We had to call three different times the next night to even talk to someone to place a to-go order. The first two times, it rang and rang and rang. The third time, my boyfriend just called the restaurant directly, not the to-go order service and spoke to someone. Then, our food was horrible. The steak was completely burnt (picture included) and so were my pork medallions; the mashed potatoes were dry and tasted like the instant potatoes you buy from the dollar store; only half of the Mac and cheese was coated with cheese, the other half was dry and had no sauce at all. Not to mention, the butter they gave us had a huge chunk of brown sugar just dropped in it. This was our first time and last time, it was a horrible experience. Let me start this by saying that it's been years since I stepped in an Outback. My last time here was less than stellar. However...that all changed tonight. The margarita flight was delightful. Traditional, Blackberry, Mango and Watermelon. Blackberry was my favorite by far. The strawberry salad was refreshing and the added goat cheese was a nice creamy surprise. The steak was perfectly cooked and deliciously seasoned. The star of the night was our server Stephanie. Prompt, friendly and a delight to be around. My only complaint might be that I was really looking forward to trying out their new strawberry salad item on their menu, but I had no dressing that came in my to go bag cause I did order delivery. Ordered online. It said it would be ready in about 20-28 minutes. Got a text saying it was almost ready at 9:23pm and to stay in your car. I parked with the other dozen cars. At 9:46, I finally went up to the door where they said to drive around the side of the building. When I got the food, I mentioned that nobody would ever know to drive around the side of the building, the employee mentioned that they had signs but must have taken them inside. The person in front of me said that she had been there for an hour as well. I can only be thankful that I didn't continue to sit like the other dozen people in the parking lot. This place is just no good anymore. I tried to look for the redeeming moments during the meal but there really wasn't any. The bread tasted flavorless, old and dry. The butter was flavorless as well. The salad was fine. The salmon was oilier than normal and they changed the recipe for the remoulade which tasted bad. The brussel sprouts were burned and inedible. I hate leaving sub-par reviews, but a group of 4 recently went here for dinner and were not impressed. We made reservations on their website for 7 pm. We were not seated until 8:15. It appeared they were understaffed. We all ordered drinks and dinner. The bar drinks came out before the non alcoholic drinks. We all upgraded the butter for our steaks, we did not receive it, and I did not get my steamed veggie side. Steaks were not cooked great. Where do I begin.. We are seated by our waiter and she walks away for sometime, comes back and asks us if we are ready to order drinks but we advised her that we have no menus. Now usually at the tables there is a little card for you to scan and the menu will pops up on your phone.. Not this table. So then she leaves brings us our menus and we don't see here for maybe another 10 minutes. In the meantime three other families are seated and they are all met with silverware, menus and bread. My instant thought was OK maybe she's new. When she comes back she asks us again if we are ready to order our drinks.. I let her know that we will be ordering our food as well as our drinks but we have no bread and silverware. So she says that she'll go ahead and take her order and she'll get the bread and silverware out properly. It was a little strange I will say, only because she asked the surrounding tables if they would like more bread and we had zero bread. And the forks were dirty, not water marks but visibly had food on them. Of course we asked for new silverware. She comes back and takes our order. So now we're just waiting for the food to get done and it's great that we were able to have some type of conversation in the meantime. In total we ordered five appetizers, I order appetizers as my meal if I don't see anything on the menu that looks appealing. They only bring out two. We wait some more time and then they bring out another one. Now in most restaurants if you order appetizers they bring all the appetizers at one time, not the case. So now they bring out the rest of the food and one order they only brought partial out and another order they brought out the wrong food. So we let them know immediately and one order they have to remake the entire thing. For the order that they had to remake it took 45 minutes, so we waited for the waiter to realize that the food didn't come out and mind you we didn't see her for 45 minutes. The first time that we see her after those 45 minutes she asks was the food good and I reply and say well she still hasn't received her food. When she finally does receive her food, she no longer has an appetite and she is ready to go. Just like the rest of the table. This was a great outback however needs a bit of remodeling which I heard they are doing. The service was fantastic. We arrived and the line was long, however we called ahead for a shorter wait time. We got in after a 20 minute wait which wasn't bad. Our server was very nice and introduced us to the wine list. I got an amazing Red Merlot that I knew would pair perfect for my Victoria filet mignon and Lobster tail. The steak was amazing, cooked to perfection as a "Medium Rare" as every Filet Mignon should be. It was topped with the perfect amount of "Garlic Butter". The lobster tail was perfectly steamed which such tender meat, and a great butter sauce. The menu is decently priced for what you receive. $40 for a Filet and lobster isn't bad, especially in the Indy area. The wine pairing was perfect and served in a Quartino as proof of the 9oz pour.. If I could give this restaurant negative stats I would. The food was horrible! The host made us wait until she finished her text to even greet us. The waitress was horrible. She only came to our table about 3 or 4 times. When I called to complain I was told my bill wasn't paided in full when I left. We've been eating at this location for years. Tonight we did a curbside takeaway order, and were very disappointed. I ordered the center cut sirloin medium well, with baked potato and a house salad. My wife ordered a house salad and baked potato. My steak was way overcooked, and both my salad and my wife's salad were extremely small and had no toppings. The portion was so small I combined the two salads to have a normal size portion. I'm hopeful that this was just an off night, but I don't know how soon I will be back. read more
