First time here at this location. Haven't been to an Outback steakhouse in a long time. The bread, Ceasar Salad, the blooming onion and drinks were as good as I remembered them to be. The rest of the food was okay too, kind of small portions for what you pay. The service was friendly and helpful but could have been more attentive when it was time for us to leave and get the check. The food was awful. They did not bring plates with the bread. And when I asked for plates, they brought out two visibly dirty ones and when I pointed it out they retrieved clean ones and the person stated that he'd be speaking to the dish washer. The blooming onion was over fried and tasted burnt. I had to ask for napkins and straws. The burger tasted like old beef. I had to ask for mayo and bbq sauce since no condiments were on the table or brought with the food. I'll never go back and see why they are closing locations. Worst experience ever....Food: horrible. We came here on a Sunday night and were seated pretty quickly in a booth in the bar area. Nice interior and our waiter was very friendly. I ordered the Alice chicken with broccoli and a loaded baked potato. I thought it was excellent! It is definitely worth it. We also ordered the filet and enjoyed it too. Went there yesterday with family, wanting to just go out to eat for a change. We waited at least half an hour, not entirely terrible, but a bit of a wait for the quality of food we had. As we got seated, the server greeted us and told us that we'd be served in just a knick of time. She was incredibly nice, patient, and understanding. She served us our food in little to no time. As we got our food, the first thing we ate was the bread, it was warm and not that entirely bad. Then, we got our appetizers, the Bloomington onions, Aussie cheese fries, and Boomerang Mozzarella stick. Our appetizers in comparison to our actual meal were better if I'm being honest. Although, the cheese fries were a bit soggy. I got the lobster tails with broccoli and rice. The broccoli didn't have any seasoning on it, but the rice had a nice taste to it and was seasoned. The lobster tails wasn't horrible, but definitely smaller than expected. Two of my other relatives got the loaded baked potato, Bloomington chicken, and mac n' cheese. The mac n' cheese, if I'm being honest, was terrible. It was something that I could've made myself, it tasted as if it were from a packaged meal. The Bloomington chicken wasn't bad and neither was the baked potato. The burger that another one of relatives ordered was huge. But, not living up to the expectations of the mighty-looking burger. It wasn't cooked thoroughly, had little to no seasoning, and tasted like it cooked in a rush. The scenery was warm and comfy. Although, The women's bathrooms had barely any tissue. As we were traveling we saw this outback and decided it had been awhile since we had outback so stopped for lunch. I noticed that the parking lot was pretty empty for a Sunday afternoon so we thought we would get quick service. Boy were we wrong. Our server was extremely nice when she was available. Came to our table 3 times. Once for drinks once for food once as we were leaving. Food was less than okay but still edible. Havnt been to an outback in a long time. The service was great and the food was realy good to. The only thing I had that I didn't like was the creamed corn. It came out look warm, it had parmesan cheese in a little clump on top. I think they missed an opportunity here. It came in a mini cast iron pan, they should have had a layer of cheese on top and put it in the broiler and had it come out sizzling. Courtney was the name of our server and she was very good. My daughter and I were leaving the strip mall and could smell the food.....an aroma of deliciousness!!! My first time eating Outback -- I had been wanting to try for years. I placed a curbside pickup but the ease of ordering online was a bit clunky. I received text messages updating me on the order progress and there's a special section for pickup. The grounds were well kept and nicely decorated. We received our food quickly once we arrived and the employee was attentive. That's where the fun stops. We ordered bloomin' shrimp, a bloomin' onion and two bloomin' burgers. Well, they used too much bloomin' salt! The onion and shrimp were nauseatingly salty. Everyone agreed it was inedible, even my adult child who eats anything! The burger was just okay. The onion was also gooey at the base, so I suppose it was undercooked. I kept going back to try the shrimp thinking the next one won't be salty -- I was foolish. A headache was had the next day and I felt awful. Wife & I went to dinner - arrived about 4:45 pm Friday, 10/15/25. only about 15-20 % full with customers.- the rest empty - still about 15-20 minute wait to be seated "Short staff" (management problem).Been coming to this store for several years. Worst Steak - ordered Filet was served sirloin full of grizzle. Sweet potato was supposed to have butter, cinnamon and sour cream. Received less than a teaspoon of each. Was never asked if either of us wanted a refill of our drink (Unsweet Ice Tea with Lemon. Wife ordered ribs, Baked Potato with butter & sour cream. Served dry. Ribs were served wife had a different sauce from all previous visits. Spicey, not good. Management reversed charges on my steak. The previous time the food was deficient but we passed it off as a aberration as years of coming there, there were no issues. Today my friend and I had lunch in Merrillville, Indiana. I can't say enough positives about the service and quality of food. It was delicious. The service was great. Here are some of my observations: I am NOT a racist person, but I get tired of hearing that white people are racist, please don't stereotype. The waitress and bus lady were both people of color along with the hostess. If there was a table seated with people of color, (2 adults at one table, 2 adults and a small child at another) they received 2 loaves of bread, while my friend and I, and other white guests were served 1 loaf of bread (all 2 white adult guests at each table). I know if we asked for another loaf of bread, we would have gotten one, but it's the point. Everyone should be treated equal no matter what color they are. I asked the hostess about filling out out a survey. She wasn't aware of how to do that so went to talk to the manager. She came back and said I had to create an account. I created an account, but there is not somewhere to fill out information about my visit (at least that I could find). In addition, if you are wanting to complete a survey, wouldn't you think that the manager would want to come to check with us to see what I wanted to say? Came to Valparaiso for the weekend, stayed in Merriville, ate at Outback. Good news is the food was good. Table service as well. I mean, Outback isn't a high end steakhouse, with melt in your mouth steaks. This is Outback. This is when you don't want to fire up the grill at home. Having that expectation, the food was good. It's value priced for the quality. What was not so good? The kitchen. I ordered steak, cooked medium, with shrimp and broccoli. My wife ordered a steak, cooked medium, with chicken wings and a salad. My steak was rare, not even medium rare. I didn't receive my shrimp. My wife's steak was cooked fine but she didn't receive her chicken wings. Her salad was drowning in dressing and had French fries in it. That's not what the menu says is in the salad. The restaurant corrected the items but we had to wait for our second meal to be delivered. The table next to us didn't get what they ordered as well. On the upside, we spoke with the manager and she gave us 25% off the bill. So, in a nut shell, consistent quality of food but poor kitchen management. read more

A BRAND DOWN UNDER Decent steaks are always sizzling at this pseudo-Aussie restaurant in Merrillville, IN. I've visited this Outback Steakhouse several times over the decades, first as a teenager with my dad (as part of weekend trips to Camp Tecumseh), then as a student attending Purdue, and finally as a married man. My famished wife and I were able to snag a table reservation around 8pm as we headed to a downstate wedding on 7/30/20. Things started off on a sour note with a borderline undrinkable Foster's 20oz draft ($4.50). In addition to the beer being flat--which tells me that the keg hadn't been changed in a long time--it had a very bizarre, almost soapy undertaste. I've encountered this issue at MLB games before (when staff don't properly rinse/flush the lines), so I'm not entirely sure what happened here. Food wise, the signature bloomin' onion ($10) remains the best way to start any meal at Outback. Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, the battered wedges are easily tear-able and come with a zippy horseradish mayo sauce for dunking. It's the perfect appetizer for sharing among 3-4 people, but be warned: a single bloomin' onion clocks in at a staggering TWO THOUSAND calories. Crikey! Outback's 8oz sirloin ($16) w/loaded baked potato is the same terrific value I remember it being, simple and satisfying to the max. Nichole's 10oz mid-rare ribeye ($21) was flavorful and she loved the mashed potatoes that came with it. Her caesar side salad was a large portion but very light on dressing. I thought the chicken tortilla soup was tasty. Bread = 4 Circuses = 4 Service was fast, which is fortunate since we were hungry enough to eat a family of kookaburras! Our young server was friendly and attentive, her name escapes me though. Dining room was kept clean per covid guidelines, plates were cleared frequently, and the virtual menu (a QR code) did wonders to keep the table uncluttered. I'm hopeful more restaurants will make a permanent transition to e-menus. * TL;DR * That's not a steak knife.....*whips out blade*......now that's a steak knife! Receiving a soup/salad + choice of potato + entree for under $20 still feels like the best deal in town. Their steak grill must be hotter than hades in order to get a perfect sear on the outside that seals in the juices (500°F or more). It might not be the flawless USDA prime cut that you'd order at Morton's, but it's still a damn good slice of beef for the price. Most people know that Outback isn't really Australian -- they're an American chain based out of Tampa, Florida -- but like me, most people don't seem to mind (apart from possibly "shrimp on the barbie", a real Aussie would surely scoff at the menu offerings). What I care about is a tall cold beer, a wicked steak, and a big-ass bloomin' onion, all of which this Outback was able to happily provide. Sound like a pretty g'day to me, mate. read more

From the moment I walked in, it was clear that the management had a troubling approach to their staff. The waitstaff appeared overwhelmed and stressed, working tirelessly without any support from the managers. It was disheartening to witness them hustling around, clearly trying their best to provide a good experience for customers, while the management seemed completely disengaged. The servers were stretched thin, and it was evident that they were expected to operate like machines--constantly on the go, with no regard for their well-being. I saw several staff members struggling to keep up with the demands of the busy dining room, and it was frustrating to watch them work so hard without any recognition or assistance from the higher-ups. To make matters worse, when I tried to get the attention of a manager regarding a delay with me getting my check , I was met with indifference. It felt as though the staff was left to fend for themselves, which is not only unfair but also detrimental to the overall dining experience. The manager said," I let them be independent." Crazy. Both managers need to be terminated. While the food was good it was overshadowed by the negative environment in which it was served. I believe that a restaurant's atmosphere is significantly influenced by how employees are treated, and in this case, it was painfully clear that the waitstaff were being pushed to their limits without any support. In conclusion, unless there is a significant change in management practices, I cannot recommend Outback Steakhouse 1550, 1590 E. Lincoln Highway, Merrillville IN., Dining out should be a pleasant experience, not one that feels like you're witnessing the exploitation of hardworking individuals. Best food ever an the service was fast will order again very soon when I'm in the area

Haven't been to Outback in a long time. This one was pretty good but I see room for improvement. The hostess greeting me at the door with a smile and we got sat right away on a Saturday night at 7 pm. This may have been a sign since the restaurant was nearly empty! Our server was Simone and was very nice and cordial. They bring bread and butter to the table right away and it's warm and delicious. We ordered the Aussie cheese fries as an appetizer and the ranch that was suppose to come with it did not come until we asked for it. Dinner came out pretty quickly and the server didn't know who got which steak with a different temperature and told us to cut into them- we switched our plates. It was pretty loud in the restaurant as there was a large table party close to us and were there the whole time we were. The food was decent but not spectacular and we had to wait for our check. Food-cold, order incorrect, was told Earl Grey Tea, received a common Lipton Tea teabag instead, shrimp in dinner was nominal (instead of getting shrimp and steak, ordered extra shrimp without steak), my bread plate was taken away without checking to make sure I was done with it, I asked for a straw for my beverage, never got one and 20 minutes later had to flag down somebody's waitress to get one for me. I'm not a big carnivore, my dinner companion is so I let him choose the restaurant on a Sunday night. We arrived around 8pm at Outback and it was pretty busy with a mix of clientele, also families with kids. Their menu offers so many good options that it was tough to choose from. We both decided on the Filet Mignon since it's usually tender and a good quality meat. Our waitress told us we get to choose 2 sides with the entree which seemed like a lot of food and it actually turned out to be too much food for us. My dinner companion chose mushrooms and a steamed lobster tail. asparagus and a Caesar salad with his filet. I had a wedge salad, lobster Mac&Cheese. I tried the lobster tail; can highly recommend. Lobster tail alone would've made a great light and yet filling dinner. The Filet Mignon was excellent prepared, soft and just the way it should be for me. The Mac&Cheese was nice, chunks of lobster. It was just too much. My wedge salad was delicious. We shared a New York cheesecake, rich and too much but we had to have a few bites! Save room! We are in a gray minivan. We take it back. Again not a soul around. We put the wrong order back and take the right one from the counter. Get back and it looks like trash. Outback has a convenient location with plenty of parking. Inside the decor is pleasant with many comfortable booths They were a little short staffed but that is a common problem in many restaurants The food was delicious but I would have personally liked to see more healthy food options. Many people today are trying to eat healthier either by personal choice or by doctors recommendations. Lower amounts of salt,oils and sugar would be appreciated. I realize it is a steakhouse but adding a few vegan options would be great for those who are in a group and want those options. read more
