Went to this restaurant which moved to Dyer from Harvey, Illinois maybe 30 maybe 40 years ago and it was terrific. We had a great waitress named Jennifer who took wonderful care of the eight of us. My wife and I ordered a half slab of ribs for an appetizer they were terrific. Then we shared the brick chicken. She got a special salad with it because she's not eating lettuce until they start saying that it's healthy again and the bread on the table was hot and garlic and they give you these sweet peppers that they've been marinated and are delicious and Vesuvio potatoes came with the brick chicken, which were wonderful and then we shared a giant piece of chocolate cake for dessert and somebody passed me a taste of their Keylime pie, which was also terrific. There were eight of us. Everybody had different meals. Most of them had lobster bisque soup instead of a salad. One of them had chicken soup with tiny noodles in it which they said was the best they ever had couple people had scallops over spinach, which they proclaimed was excellent and three of our people had various mistakes which they loved Maureen who sat next to me had tiramisu for dessert and she said it was one of the best she ever had so this restaurant had everything right and is an easy five star read more

This was a wonderful date night. We were greeted and seated immediately. The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and friendly. We started with lobster bisque, which was a bit too thick and reminded me of gravy, but the bread was warm and very good. Next, we had the scallop wrapped in bacon, which was excellent. I ordered a coconut-mango margarita that was incredibly good. Our main course was filet mignon, cooked perfectly medium-rare and seasoned to my preference. The carb cake was okay. My husband had chicken parmesan served over angel hair pasta, which he found just okay--the pasta was quite bland. The Brussels sprouts that came with my steak were delicious. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful from the outside and makes a great first impression. Once inside, it has more of an old-school atmosphere. Our waiter, Tony, was friendly, personable, and very attentive. He was definitely one of the highlights of our visit. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was disappointing. One thing that immediately stood out was our seating. The restaurant had plenty of empty tables, yet my fiancé and I were seated directly behind another Black family. Looking around, it appeared that the Black guests were being seated together. I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't want to make assumptions or cause an issue, but it made me uncomfortable. For dinner, I ordered the lamb chops with lobster bisque and double mashed potatoes. My fiancé ordered the porterhouse steak with a salad and double mashed potatoes. We also shared the lobster macaroni and cheese. The bread and lobster bisque were filling, but the lobster macaroni and cheese was a huge disappointment. It was runny, lacked flavor, and tasted like boxed macaroni that had just come off the stove. I took my entrée home, hoping it would taste better the next day. Unfortunately, it didn't. The mashed potatoes were bland, and the lamb chops were mostly fat with very little meat. The final straw was finding a long silver hair in the lobster macaroni and cheese. To make matters worse, there were also fettuccine noodles mixed in with the macaroni, which made me question the attention to detail in the kitchen. At that point, I threw everything away. Overall, this was a very expensive meal that did not live up to the price or expectations. Aside from Tony's excellent service and the beautiful exterior, the food quality and overall experience left me extremely disappointed. We won't be returning. Next time, we'll gladly make the drive into Chicago for food that is better prepared and better worth the money. read more

I got chicken Parmesan and the hub got chicken vesuvio. They were both excellent and we tried each others! We had to try the crème brûlée for dessert and it was very good as well. I am not here to slander this establishment, but I am beyond disappointed in my dinner last night. I booked about a month in advance for mine and my boyfriend's first Valentine's Day. It took them about five minutes to find our reservation, even though we had our confirmation pulled up on our phone.When I looked up this restaurant, I looked at the pictures so that I can get what kind of vibes they have, if it's upscale or casual so I know what to wear because that's just something I do when I look up a place. They do not have a dress code. People were wearing baseball hats backwards. I can't even count how many hoodies men and women were wearing. I felt so ridiculous honestly in my nice dress and it was not even one of my higher end dresses it was a casual dress with heels, I felt so overdressed compared to other people in there. I will say that it's very nice inside, something you may find downtown. Only a very select few were dressed up. And I get it everyone can wear whatever they want whatever they are comfortable in. I just expected a little bit more especially because it was Valentine's Day and a weekend. It took maybe about 15 minutes for a waitress to get to us and I understand Valentine's Day dinner is busy. I don't know if they were short staffed. I am not sure what was going on there but as someone who used to be in the service industry I get it. I understand we were not even being rude at all to our waitress lovely person just was very busy I guess. We ordered our first round of drinks, they took a while to get to us as well and it was nothing crazy. I got a Prosecco, which they didn't even pour for me. They brought me the tiny bottle of Prosecco and the glass. That's fine. My boyfriend ordered a bottled beer and a glass with that I don't know why they took so long but OK fine. They gave us bread butter that was fine but you can't mess that up, they brought us over their complementary peppers, which actually was my favorite thing, that & the Prosecco. We ordered the shrimp de jonghe appetizer, which was OK. My boyfriend orders the ribeye. Medium I ordered the rigatoni à la vodka. he ordered mushroom and onions on top of his steak. It did not come that way. It came with their signature red onion on the side and his steak was so undercooked. I know how he likes his steaks. I know my steaks as well it was very undercooked. I like my steak that way, but he does not, and not to mention all the grizzle, and the fat that the steak was mostly made up of he could barely cut it. I was just watching him tackle that steak all night. I couldn't look away. Moving onto the rigatoni à la vodka. It was the worst I've ever had. Being someone that cooks very very well. I've made this from scratch and that just was not good at all. I gave it a try. I had a few bites and just moved my plate to the side. Didn't say anything to the waitress because what she gonna do. What's the restaurant gonna do? Change the recipe really quick? No I knew there couldn't be anything done, so I don't want to complain to them or make a big deal. I just ordered another round of drinks which took forever to get to us. We arrived there at 7 o'clock for a reservation, our main entrée didn't arrive till about 8:30. We were there for two hours and not because we wanted to because everything took so long to come out even the soups that came with our entrées took forever to come out and they were not good. It was like some watered down chicken noodle soup you get from a can. I literally just ate the green peppers and had Prosecco. Which was the only enjoyable thing for me and I don't eat bread so I did not have any of that. I had really really high hopes for this place, but for how long everything took, how it was not cooked properly & the taste & on top of that , there was some also very obnoxious people. I mean I couldn't even hear myself talk to my boyfriend over this table of four it was two couples and the one guy was just being so loud thank God we weren't right next to them, but the poor woman that was sitting next to them was literally like holding her head covering her ears. They looked so uncomfortable and not one manager popped their head in that section to say anything, I don't know if he was overserved or he just has a loud personality. It just made it more unpleasant. I really wish I had nice things to say about this place. If you read my other reviews, I rarely leave anything negative as I've said, I have been in the service industry as a server as a bartender & as a manager. I'm a stay at home mom who cooks and host many dinner parties so I'm honestly not just nitpicking here I was expecting more and I was very excited to try this place. We have been here few times and had a good experience Our waiter and the back waiter were super cool and very attentive. The complementary appetizer of sweet peppers was a perfect start to the meal. My wife had the lake perch and that was very tasty, unfortunately my New York strip came out medium well and not medium as requested. It's always disappointing paying a premium for a steak at a steak house only to have the steak come out at a different temperature. This was also our anniversary dinner. I stopped going to dinner there because they fried my filet mignon steak and would not take it off my bill as I ordered a medium well steak and they burned it. I visited Gino's Prime & Surf on a Saturday evening to celebrate my dad's birthday. The location is clean and has a relaxing atmosphere. Our server was prompt. We ordered 1/2 dozen of New Orleans style oysters, a crab cake, a lobster tail, surf and turf with a lobster tail, salads, sides and a piece of chocolate cake. All of the food took a while to come out. Even the table next to us started to ask for the manager. My dad visits the location often and said this wasn't the normal wait time. After about an hour after ordering our food still wasn't out. He asked our server what was the delay she responded "the other 170 other people here and 3 chefs in the kitchen" with a semi sharp tone. I def think there was a more polite way to answer that question. On to the food. The oysters and lobster tail were delicious! Very good. The chocolate cake was also very good! Moist and a great chocolate flavor. My filet was DRY and tasteless. Not even salt could be tasted. I ordered medium, yet the meat was still very dry and bland. My broccoli was bland as well. When reviewing the bill the next day, I see my server charged me for the incorrect surf and turf ($5 more than the one I ordered) and we were billed $10 for a non cash fee. I'd def pass on the steak if I choose to visit again, and stick to the seafood and the desserts. read more

This place is a classic for a reason. Old school food with remodeled ambiance. I've been here for anniversary dinners, birthdays, work events, and I've never had a bad experience. Parking lot is in the back or they do offer valet. It is a steak house so expect steak house prices. That being said the quality is always fantastic. They offer an appetizer called Gino's Mixed Grill ($26) Grilled octopus, with sauteed calamari & shrimp in a lemon vinegarette - it is the perfect start to your meal, charred just right. Steaks are well seasoned, tender and prepared to proper temps. Wrap it all up with a crispy creme brulee - what a lovely evening. To begin with our server with a wonderful. Our first steaks, one ribeye one fillet we ordered, medium rare. They were both well done. The texture of a hockey book. The baked potatoes that came out were ice cold. They brought us new steaks. The ribeye was almost un edible. It had so much gristle that it was difficult to cut with a steak knife, let alone chew.. Here for my brothers birthday dinner. I had never been here. The decor and ambiance is beautiful. I tried Alligator Bites for the first time and they were good. It was 12 of us our bill totaled $910 including the gratuity and the food in my opinion was good. The soup unfortunately was Luke warm so a couple people sent it back. A couple steaks 1. that was supposed to be medium well and 1. well done were sent back because they were still too rare. Other than that every body was happy with there food and drinks. This restaurant blew away all expectations that I had. Our server was very professional and friendly. The dinning area was quiet and very nicely decorated. I remember Gino's when it was in Harvey Illinois. I have to say I was rather disappointed in my rib eye steak. If I have to excessively chew my meat, it falls short of being a PRIME cut and ends up being a disappointing CHOICE cut. I know my steaks. I don't get fooled easily. Another thing that bothered me, there is a poorly enforced dress code in this so called upscale establishment. Some of the people dining here were dressed like slobs. Doesn't fly well with me. The culmination of this disappointing experience prompted us to escalate the matter to the manager, who, to his credit, promptly acknowledged the mishandling of the situation and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused. His admission that we could indeed have been accommodated on the patio only served to underscore the incompetence of the hostess's actions. A very nice experience on all points starting with the menu. One gripe I have about some Italian restaurants is the lack of a meat sauce and/or lack of sauce variety. I didn't see that here. Also the menu seems pretty well balanced. The service was good. It could have been better but I got the impression my waitress was new so there's some forgiveness there. Good attitude and atmosphere. The staff seemed to work together well. The food was good. I'd have the crab cake again. It did take a while for my entree to arrive though. There is a full bar. I would come back here. Te ranch was so good I almost drank it. Next was the entree. I struggled between the rib eye and the lamb. I ended up going with the 24oz bone in ribeye! Good lord that's the close to the best steak I've ever had. Lastly was dessert.... Adam brought out a tray of samples as a visual of the many different options. I'm really picky about cheesecake and just returned from New York where they DO CHEESECAKE. I had the New York cheesecake that Adam recommended.... We took a chance on New Years reservations and were not disappointed. We got there in plenty of time for our reservations and the place was jammed. We checked in and expected a wait. Snuck up to the bar and grabbed a couple of brewskis(the bartender took care of us right away) Half way thru the beer we were called and seated. The peppers and bread basket were great as usual. In spite of the madhouse our waitress "Lisa" was on top of things. Drinks and appetizers (stuffed mushrooms & nice size shrimp cocktail) made the expected wait very tolerable. A few minor glitches here and there were smoothed over by our gal Lisa. Donna loved her lamb chops the rest of us had filets. We left stuffed and happy. Can't wait to go back! Never even got to our table. Made a 7pm reservation for our anniversary dinner. We got married on NYE, so dinner reservations are always necessary. I replied a text and an email confirming my reservation. We got to the restaurant and the lobby and bar were packed. At 7:15, they seated a couple that had been waiting for their 5:45pm reservation! Several groups had been waiting an hour or more for their reservation. There is no way we could wait until 8:30pm to get to our table so we had to leave and cancel our reservation. Very disappointed. We couldn't just walk into another nice restaurant at 7:30 on NYE so we didn't get an anniversary dinner at all. Not sure how this could happen at an established restaurant. They should have called people with reservations and let us know that they were running extremely behind. With some notice, we could have planned on arriving at 8:30pm rather than our original 7pm reservation and maybe made it work. read more

It was extremely disappointing. We had an eggplant appetizer that was very overcooked, hard to cut. Then, our fish was overcooked. It was awful and a complete waste of money. We wanted to get a bottle of champagne and I recall there was Prosecco and then no offerings on champagne at a reasonable price. Sparking wine but the real bubbles were wildly overpriced, no in-between offers. Also, just constant interruptions from the waitress and bus staff throughout the entire dinner. Enough! Constantly pestering and interrupting diners is not good service. Unfortunately, it was a very poor dining experience and at those prices the food and service should be superb. read more

We liked the look of the restaurant & location convenience to our home, along with 2 private rooms with projection screens for potential dinner meetings/presentations & our . patio seating was nice. When we leave half of a crab cake, steaks ordered medium are brought out well done, we forget that we ordered salad because it took so long, wasn't good upon arrival and when the waitress tries to tell my husband he ordered a T-bone, not salmon....
