The steak that was supposed to be medium rare came out well. The manager was very nice and adamant about fixing it. Sent it back and it came out the same way. Don't waste you're time. We were seated quickly and the waitstaff was great. However... I was surprised at how run down the place was! Really a surprise for a national chain. We we changed booths because thebenches were all ripped up on the first one they seated us at. I expected more. Im not picky and I LOVE Outback. After deciding to splurge we bought $80 worth of takeout from your restaurant. I realize the quality of the food is better dining in but we could barely eat it. Her seafood pasta dish and maybe a spoonful of sauce and the noodles were rubber. I got a 22oz rib eye with crab legs. Loved the crab but the steak was inedible. I had to preheat my oven and RE-COOk ny steak myself. I asked for Medium Well and my steak was literally bleedng. I ordered a rack of ribs. the ribs looked and tasted like they were boiled or backed. and hit with a squeeze of sauce. They looked in appetizing and were missing the OB sizzling presentation. I ate the sides and chose to take mthe ribs home to throw an the grill the next day. They were great after being put on the grill. it was a busy night we were eating at the bar. our server was very nice.. If you like steak don't go to this location. Treat yourself and go to Longhorn steak house. We ordered the rib eye. It came out charred. Tried to cut it and it was mostly fat. Sent it back and the manager came. She said that the rib eye is their most marbled. I told her marbling is different from fat and when you burn the outside of a steak it ruins the taste because all you taste is the carbon. We changed from the ribeye to the new York strip. I'm going to start off this review with a bit of a background story. My family has a cottage in Wrightsville beach and we walked in this outback last summer and walked right back out. That was due to a hostess rolling her eyes at my Mom for not wanting to sit in the bar area. This trip, we decided to give it another chance since we love the outback in Cary NC. When we walked in, the hostesses never greeted us. We waited a solid five seconds waiting for them to say something. They never did, so we told them the size of our party and got lead to a booth by a moody hostess. We ordered our drinks and they bring me a sprite that has a bug in it. Plus our bloom and onion was hardly breaded and they left remains of the outside of the onion. It was hardly edible since the only sufficiently breaded part was the part of the onion that shouldn't have been included. My French and onion soup was very cold, and the wine in it was over powering. Alcohol put in food has never tasted as strong to me as that soup did. Both of my parent's baked potatoes were bitter, and the lettuce in the Caesar salad was very soggy. Our bread was stale and our steaks were very fatty. We love the outback chain but this particular restaurant fell very short for us. I would definitely recommend spending your hard earned money elsewhere. read more

I have never written a negative Yelp review before this. I have been working in the service industry for nearly twenty-five years. My wife and I had dinner at this particular restaurant earlier tonight, New Year's Eve. Now, I understand that people want to get out of work in time to celebrate the holiday. This is completely totally understandable. However, at 9 o'clock sharp the lights went from a very comfortable level to the highest possible cleaning level, very, very bright. The restaurant was not closing, people were still being sat. At first, we thought someone had bumped against a light switch. However when five minutes went by and there had been no change in the lights it became obvious that it was a choice. Our server came by to check on us and we commented on the lights. Her response was a strange, "They went... up." Not a question, just a weird acknowledgement. She went away and after a few minutes the level was brought down a very, very tiny amount. A few minutes later, someone who I can only assume was a manager, who was wearing very casual clothes, came by to see if we were OK with the current light level. We stated that it seemed pretty obvious that the lights have been bumped up to suggest that everyone leave. Surprisingly, she did not refute this. Instead, she said that they had been having problems with the lights all day. About 30 seconds later she said that someone had bumped against the lights. She walked away after suggesting to us that they could not possibly be brought any lower than the still very bright level they were at. Now, I realize this isn't the fanciest restaurant in the world, so maybe our expectations shouldn't have been very high. However, our bill was $78. And for us that's a fairly significant amount of money. Additionally, I should add that we tipped $22 on that $78 tab. A server should never be punished for the actions of their manager. However, the pumping up of the lights to get people to leave at 9 p.m. was extremely rude and, frankly, inexcusable. It would please me to no end if I were to find out that the manager responsible for this action were severely reprimanded, if not fired. It damn near ruined the only date night my wife and I were able to have for a very long time. We will never, ever be coming back to this restaurant. I strongly suggest you avoid it as well. read more

Twice in one week I tried buying food from the Wilmington NC location and twice I didn't succeed. I tried ordering online for takeout for the new blooming onion with steak and french fries but there was no option for it. So I called to order, I was told I couldn't order it to go because they didn't have a container large enough. Strange but okay. I really wanted to surprise my boyfriend with this because he has been talking nonstop about it. Tonight, we went to dine in. We got seated and our waitress never came! We waited 10 mins and just left. It wasn't busy. And a waitress kept helping the family a few booths down!The hostess wanted to seat us in the bar area and you could tell she wasn't pleased when we wanted a booth. The food was excellent so why only 2 stars? Maybe it is a Wilmington thing but most waiters we have encountered appear to have not been trained in any other way other than simply being order takers. This place is no exception. No proper greeting, no menu discussion, no recommendations, no up-selling. Looking around the restaurant every seated table had empty dirty dishes piled up. It was like pre-busing is a topic that was never discussed. The manager even walked up to our table and asked us how everything was. We had an appetizer plate, four bread plates and a cup of soup piled on top of each other at the edge of the table. We told him the food was great, he looked at our stack of dirty dishes and walked away empty handed. Waiters: I urge you to go on YouTube and watch training videos on how to be a good waiter. This will increase your tips significantly and earn you loyal customers that will return and specifically request your section. What got to me the most was that they have 1st come self seating in bar area.We had 2 different customers ask us to give us our table when we were done. First of all very rude of customers but why should they be allowed too do it. Why shouldn't they have to wait like other customers. Management needs too change there rules. I hadn't been to an Outback Steakhouse in years, but I remembered the last one was absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately, this one disappointed me a great deal. Service was wonderful. Our server was marvelous, fast and absolutely kind and understanding. I am an enormous steak fan. It is my absolute favorite food and I love nothing more than a good ribeye. Bread was great, bloomin onion was tasty. Sweet tea was nothing special and kind of sour to be honest. Really, it isn't that hard to please me with steak, but I do expect a level higher in quality for the price you pay at this restaurant, and the steak was not good. I have never once in my entire life sent a steak back and I did today...not once, but TWICE. The first one came out with this bizarre sour taste. I can not put my finger on it, but it simply tasted foul. Terrible after taste as if the meat had been absolutely saturated in sherry for days, which it obviously had not. The first bite made me blanch. I had to ask my girlfriend to try it and make sure my tastebuds weren't messed up because I couldn't believe it. The waitress was super nice and greatly encouraged me to switch dishes to another steak. By the time that arrived the rest of my party was done eating so I was extremely embarrassed and feeling a lot of pressure to like it. But I couldn't get through more than three bites. It was over cooked and absolutely covered in spices. SO spicy! A good steak, if it's a good steak, doesn't need that much rub. It was dreadful. My guess is that this cut was also sour so the spices were meant to cover that up? The first steak was at least tender, just tasted sour. I'd just eaten at Chili's last week and damned if I hadn't got a ten times better steak for a fraction of the price. This would be the end of it and the last time I ever bothered with this place, but the manager came up and sent me home with the items cut off the check, a 20$ gift card and a slice of cheesecake. I was very stunned by how kind that was! Perhaps the cook was simply having an off day. Or trying to work with sub par cuts the best they could. I'd like to up the stars to 4 simply because of how hard the staff tried to make it up to me and how kind they were. But I came for the food and it just wasn't up to par. I do give them points for how hard they are working. And I'd expect the girlfriend would give them full points as her chicken and pasta was quite tasty. Decided to try this steakhouse out as we typically eat at a different steakhouse in Wilmington or Myrtle Beach. It was late after taking our kids to hitting lessons and wanted a good meal. Parking lot was pretty empty (first red flag) so we swung in. Arrived around 8:15pm. Seated quickly. We were left to wait for at our table around 20 minutes before anyone approached us about drinks let alone our food order. I was getting saucy (I have an obvious RBF when displeased), I'm sure they could tell. We were about to leave and then someone approached, not our waiter, but she asked us if we would like her to take our drink and/or appetizer orders as well as our waiters name. She apologized for the wait. She took our order toward the kitchen and spoke to a gentleman before slipping behind the wall. He was our waiter. About 4/5 minutes later he comes with our drinks and apologizes too. Then asks if we would like a free appetizer due to the wait (um, yeah). We told him we ordered one already with the 1st lady and placed our meal order. Appetizer came relatively quickly once ordered, blooming onion was ok, kinda greasy for my taste as was difficult to pull apart. Manager comes out next and apologizes again and says they were sorry for the long wait and that they would comp our appetizer. That the wait was not descriptive of their normal service. Appreciated. Salad and bread come out. While drinking our sodas, I notice my glass has a crack nearly all the way around but I'm 2/3 through it so let's hope there's no glass in it. Hubs says wait until we get our food to say anything because he didn't want to risk "special sauce" being put on our meals (since we've already been marked as complainers...hoe sad. Food arrives. My Aussie salad was decent, kiddo could eat her philly because she didn't feel well so jury's still out. Hubs didn't eat most of his bone-in ribeye cause the flavor was aweful but the baked potato was good. Taking the steak home to feed the dog. We paid and even tipped decent (about 17%) despite the bad service. We eat at steak restaurants often and will not return to this restaurant again. My wife and I tried this "Outback Steakhouse" on College Rd. a couple of months ago. We really enjoyed the fast seating, courtesy, friendly staff and great tasting food. As a result of that very pleasing experience, we decided to return tonight at 6:45pm. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT ! It started with lack of silverware and napkins. We had to ask for them. I subsequently asked for one change to a "special" that was on the menu(replace the dessert with a less expensive dessert). I was prepared for an up-charge. I was told "No substitutions." As a result, my total meal was $7 less than if I had gotten the special. Go figure ! The fast seating was appreciated. Our waitress was satisfactory and the food was tasty (except for the Key Lime parfait which had no lime). I sent it back ! Consequently, the feeling of being a valued customer was missing and definitely not appreciated. There are far too many other choice restaurants where we are valued as paying customers. So we showed up right at closing time (which I do not condone) but they treated us like royalty! My husband and I came in 8 minutes until closing, after the hostess made us aware of that I go to wave them goodbye and thank them anyway! Well little to my husbands and I's surprise a waiter waved us through to a table!! The bartender was very pleased to get us anything we wanted there were no limits on the menu, this location went up and beyond to please us and make our experience special! The food was fantastic and we felt like royalty! Now I would never condone being late but little did they know we were there 2 hours prior but had to leave because of car trouble where we had to be towed back! So needless to say outback made our anniversary night spectacular!! Thank you everyone for going beyond what we expected! I have been a customer at Outback since the early 90's after waiting tables, bar tending and managing there. I know every aspect of this business and have spent countless hours working to produce quality food and service. Also, I have eaten at stores all over the country and have good knowledge of what a great Outback should be! I am completely disappointed in the quality of their steaks now. You used to be able to get a great, lightly seasoned, tender steak but those days seem to be over and done. Decided to try the "prime cut" sirloin special after a couple of other poor steaks served to me over the last six months. Well, they first need to cook it as ordered. MR steak was well done, tough, over seasoned (even after requesting light seasoning) and had tough stringy gristle running the length of the steak. Additionally, the steak had a foul smell to one of the corners and obvious discoloration of the old meat. Unfortunately, I ordered curbside so I could not have the order fixed by management. The one saving grace was the curbside runner who was efficient and polite. I should have taken heed to the other reviews and the half empty parking lot at 5pm on a Sunday. Never seen an outback with so few guests...now I know why! read more

We dropped in to order some take-out for the Throwback Prices sale. But is was nothing close to the quality we have experienced in the past and come to expect from this franchise. Very disappointing. We went in around 4:30. The takeout desk is terrific and the person running it was efficient, informed and very friendly. The food was not good. It all seemed to be left over from the lunch crowd several hours earlier. The Bloomin Onion was completely wilted, probably microwaved. The potato was so overcooked it was inedible. The Broc&Cheese had some sort of liquid cheesy substance in the bottom of the container. And the meat was so undercooked it was raw in the middle - and so chewy and tough I couldn't eat it. I ordered it medium. Yes I know how to order meat, have been doing it for forty years, so don't even start with me. I know raw, and I know horribly chewy, yours was both But our dog loved it! To contrast this with our recent prior take-out experience; Broc&cheese made with real shredded cheese and fresh broc, meat perfectly cooked and tender as could be and a potato so fresh and hot. Where did it all go wrong in a month? Was it the time we came in? What was it that went so horribly wrong between those two starkly different experiences? We were very disappointed in this experience. Our dog loved it though, after we chainsawed through the meat to make pieces for him. Tighten it up, Outback! I love your food, but this last visit was horrible and I will have reservations about coming there again when there are so many other options out there. read more
