He was not just knowledgeable about the Stio gear but also How to use the gear. By comparison, I stopped by the Arcteryx company store in SoCal. Sadly, the Canadian brand appears to have ventured far from the their rugged roots. The store felt elitist and pretentious. Stio is the opposite. Same quality without the stuffy atmosphere. Stio is the Anti-Arcteryx brand you want.

Now 4 months later it has turned into a nice red stain on the sidewalk. There is always dog poop smeared all over the sidewalk. Probably from people not picking up after their pets, then it gets stepped in and tracked everywhere. Lastly, there is usually a plethora of trash in their planters. Old masks, bottles, cigarettes, etc... I let the employees know about the vomit right away and a month ago I sent a note to their customer service but obviously they don't care what the outside of their store looks like. I cannot vouch for their products. They seem nice. But for a store that sells jackets for $700, I would think keeping the outside of the store as nice as the inside would be a priority. I guess not.

The huge corporate stores love to do that to the smaller stores like Big 5. Big 5 is a better store, but of course they don't carry as much. Their prices are certainly better and makes happy this location hasn't been forced out because of the giant Dicks (lol) right next to it. There's a Big 5 minutes from my house too, so I go there more. Dicks is across from the mall so if I am In that area I may think of going in, but like I said, this was the 2nd time in 6 years that I've been in that store. Whether someone agrees or disagrees with the message, it's not REI's job to tell customers how they should think or act. I came here for outdoor gear, not political messaging. Companies should focus on their strengths--serving customers and selling quality products--instead of jumping into virtue signaling and social posturing. This kind of messaging feels more alienating than inclusive, and it made me decide this will be my last visit. Sell gear, not ideology.

I've shopped for my husband, grandkids and myself and I have been happy with my purchases. I bought some great seasonings for myself, sports items for my grandkids, and lots of outdoor equipment for my husband. Everything has been used and enjoyed, and has held up well. The prices are comparable to other places. I absolutely think their seasonings are superior to grocery stores for outdoor cooking.

One dog slimed my hand when his owner raced up beside me on the stairs. I was there on Friday morning this time, hoping to avoid the crazy weekend crowd of people with their dogs. While it was not quite as overtaken, it was still too much. I just hope no child is ever hurt in the calamity of dogs there. Dogs are amazing, but they're unpredictable. I am not alone in my frustration, many dog loving people have complained. Come on, Scheels... your store is crowded enough without dogs and their inability to stay in their own lane.
