This visit we had the blue crab taco, scallop taco, steamed oysters, snow crab legs, and the crab bisque. The bisque was SO good! And if you order the sweet potato fries...GET THEM! They come with a brown sugar butter sauce that's absolutely delicious. Good food, fun atmosphere, and a great place to enjoy a meal with family. We'll definitely be back on our next beach trip!

It has always been good, and we definitely won't let this deter us from returning. Ms T had her usual Shrimp basket lunch. The issue was that the shrimp were not cooked through. They were still translucent. We totally understand not wanting to overcook shrimp, but these were not quite done. On the bright side she commented on how good the slaw was. I have been on a kick to try barbecue at restaurants that are not barbecue joints per se, to see if I can find some hidden gems. For example, both Sam & Omie's and Wanchese Marina serve a good barbecue sandwich. Black Pelican, at least on this day, does not. I must say, the serving was huge. This was more than enough for two meals for me. The barbecue was dry and not well flavored. The texture and flavor was more like dried out beef that has been over-roasted. This is not something I would order again here. All that being said, I am leaving the rating for Black Pelican as it is because we have always had good meals here. I accept that it can't be 100% perfect every time and sooner or later we will run into something that is less than stellar. We will continue to return. I just know this not where I will have barbecue and we are sure the shrimp thing was just a one timer.

We had a family reunion in Nags Head the first week of July 2024. We had 21 people in the main house and another 5 in a secondary house. Normally, we would all go out to a restaurant for dinner one night during our week, but since 100% of the family made it to the reunion trip this year, there were way too many. What to do? Our niece suggested the Outer Banks Boil Company which she has used in the past and highly recommended. They come to you with dinner - they cook it at the property, set up the eating area, serve the food in boil style fashion, and cleanup after the fact. What else could you ask for? We booked our reservation for the early meal. Beau showed up 15 minutes before his arrival time to scope out the place and recommend options for the best place to hold the feast. Normally, all food is cooked together but we had a situation where certain family members ordered additional seafood above the normal shrimp boil. To ensure the food was distributed properly, Beau went above and beyond and cooked two pots, back-to-back, utilizing the stock from the first pot to maximize flavor. What an experience! The food was magnificent and the service impeccable. Beau provided top tier service and represented his company well. Ironically, one of the favorite ingredients of the boil was the andouille sausage - was the first to be devoured. I would highly recommend, and we plan to do again. We had the most incredible experience with Outer Banks Boil Company! We hosted a small catered event with close friends and family, and everything exceeded our expectations. Joe was our server and he was absolutely amazing -- friendly, professional, and made sure everything went smoothly from start to finish. The food? Out of this world. The shrimp were some of the best we've ever had -- fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Everything was delicious and beautifully prepared. It was the perfect mix of laid-back and special, and it made for such a memorable evening. Highly recommend if you're looking for a unique and unforgettable Outer Banks dining experience. Doug's service was great, timely, and he made sure to clean up and package the leftovers. Would 100% recommend the service to friends. I'm use to a Cajun crawfish/shrimp boil where the food is submerged in liquid but I thoroughly enjoyed the NC steamed boil. All the components of the boil were cooked perfectly. I was so torn because this cocktail menu is extensive, like anything you could possibly want. I went with the hot & dirty because I love a good dirty martini, and this one did not disappoint. So perfectly spicy and briney. Other honorable mentions include the Red Sky Spritz made with fresh watermelon, and the Summer Nights made with lavender and coconut creme. We did also get to try some beignets here which were fluffy, rich and delicious. Tasted homemade right out of the oven. Would definitely recommend.
