We went up & ordered right away. This (our 3rd stop in Montana) was the 1st place to hand us the 3 stamp card. We, not being from Montana, looked at it as if he'd handed us a random appendage from his body, no doubt. All we were trying to do was pay for our drink - ha. His explanation was "that's our tab, if you decide you want another, bring the card up." We tried to explain that we didn't want another. We were only having one & we'd like to pay. He told us to hold on to the card & pay after we were done. We went out back to the permanent food truck and ordered Kels kryptonite, the pretzel & a chicken & Belgian waffle w/ hot honey. It took about 20min. While we waited, we sipped our beer and flipped these cards over looking for clues... then we took to Google... then we spied on other people. Maybe we would have enjoyed the beer more if we knew what these cards were for and what the heck we were supposed to do with them! Fossil Fuel IPA scored a 3.25 from Kel n/a from me The Capone Oatmeal Stout a 3.5 from Kel 3.25 me Both on the average side with no major knocks or stand outs for features. The food was fresh & tasty - we wrapped up & went inside. We were asked for our cards, our book was stamped, we paid for 1 beer & went out still lost... At our NEXT stop, the barkeep explained that by Montana law, there's a 3 pour limit & a lot of larger places uses cards to track pours (aha!) & a strict 8pm cut off for taps - which we came waaay too close to! read more

Outlaw Brewing is one of the considerable amount of breweries I experienced on a recent trip to Bozeman. I got rated the beer that I had very highly on Untappd because I thought it was excellent! The beer I had was the Pot Shot Pilsner which is a German style Pilsner that was excellent! With this beer you can enjoyablely detect flavors like hoppiness, some bitterness and a subtle natural sweetness and fruitiness. The layout of this beer on each sip is well done and makes this pilsner an easy one to have more than one of in one sitting. read more

Ok....where to start? Excellent service amazing beers. They even have a buddy board!!! I had the gambler amber which was really good and refreshing. The wife had some random IPA which she enjoyed as well. We then order food from the food truck outside that specialized in all sorts of grilled cheese sandwiches. This place has such a fun vibe! The service from the bartenders is always fantastic. Lowkey a book club I am apart of loves to hang out here almost weekly! They may not serve food but they typically have a food truck outside which is always fun! They do have free popcorn though! It's fire! My current drink of choice here is the Strawberry Sour. Outlaw Brewing was easy to find and well-marked which is nice after trying to track down some obscure breweries in various locales. They had big signs which is helpful for old eyes! That and a big fermenter out front, even I could find it... This place was hopping on a late Friday afternoon. The crowd was predominately young but with a few older folks mixed in. When I say young I mean the 20's to early 30's crowd. Kids are apparently welcome as I saw a few wandering around. Plenty of seating at the bar as well as quite a few high tops also. There was an upstairs area, which I didn't make it too. I liked the lights made from half kegs, those were cool. I ordered a flight, which usually includes four beers but I added a fifth due to severe indecision on my part. I had the PAPA or Passive Aggressive pale Ale, the Goemons Gold, the Gambler Amber, The Dirk, and the Russian Bill. The PAPA was a VERY mild pale ale. Light hop aroma and flavor to go with a very light color, though surprisingly it had nice body for such a light beer. This is one that even non-craft beer people could drink, well except for my friend Rick who is physically unable to drink anything but Coors Light... Next up was the Goemons Gold, billed as a honey lemon ginger braggot. Braggot is a style of beer brewed with honey and sometimes spiced as well. I didn't get much aroma from this which was surprising as I expected quite a bit with the lemon and ginger. What didn't come through in the aroma definitely came through in the flavor! The ginger came through really well and created a nice flavor on the back end. The Gambler Amber. Again, I didn't notice much in the way of aroma on this one. Perhaps my sense of smell had shut down after the long flight to get here and having to deal with the stinky guy next to me on the flight. There is always a stinky on the flight, if you don't think so then it's probably you... Anyway, the Amber had a real nice malty flavor but for my taste I would have liked a little more. Still a very nice beer. Onward, the things I do for Yelp! The Dirk was up next, a Scottish Ale. I have heard these referred to as Scotch ales which always make me think of my grandmother who when she heard me refer to us as Scotch when I was young told me, "Scotch is a whiskey, we are Scottish!" Forty some years later that still sticks with me. Anyway, where was I? Oh right, the Scottish ale right in front of me...duh! The menu describes this as malty and smooth and it definitely is. This is a really good, no weird shit ale in the Scottish style. I really liked this one! I was about to type, "Last but not least..." but I had since noticed on the menu something else I had to try that just didn't end up being the case. Before I get to the last one the Russian Bill imperial nitro stout was next. It had nice flavor a of chocolate with a bit of coffee, but the chocolate was center on this one. It had a bit of an off-flavor that I couldn't quite place but was still really good. The Mexican Puya is described as their take "on a classic Mexican Mole sauce." Supposedly using Cacao nibs, Puya peppers and imagination they brought us one truly unique brew. I am generally not one for "spicy" beers as they always seem a bit of a gimmick to me. This one was a little different as I actually liked it more than any other I have had. I only got the spicy heat on the back end and it was pretty mild but lingering. Not something I would usually drink and not sure I would want to drink a full pint of it but I enjoyed it for what it was. Last was the DIPA, the Summit Dog. This was a really, really nice DIPA. It had great flavor, but also was nice and smooth just like a...uh well, that's a story for another time! This was my first trip to Bozeman and my first stop into Outlaw Brewing obviously. I would definitely recommend a stop here if you enjoy good beer. Great old-school brewery. Beer is always good and they change it up a lot. Other breweries invest more in the food and Outlaw has stayed true to brew. Free popcorn is a huge bonus and there is a food truck. Outside seating is nice. read more

I really like the beer at this place, and the popcorn machine is great. The space is cool--nice that there's a safety valve for crowds upstairs. Service is friendly and knowledgable. One TV is mounted in a corner, which I like--not like a sports bar where you are surrounding by screens. My one issue with this and some other establishments is seating. Why, oh why, do owners/designers assume that everyone can or wants to sit at a hard flat stool with no back? A minor complaint about a good place. read more

Good place to hang out and have a few brews. I LOVE hops, so if you are like me, you can't go wrong with the Hangin' Judge. They now have a food truck on the back, so you can eat some food and drink a beer. It's not too expensive, and they even have a fireplace and coloring books for the kiddos. We visited Outlaw Brewing on a Thursday around dinner time. It was moderately busy, but we were helped at the bar very quickly. The bartender was very quick and attentive. He was also patient with me asking for a tiny sample sip since IPA's can be hit or miss for me. I ended up enjoying the Goemon's Gold Honey Lemon Ginger very much! It was extremely refreshing and tasty. We visited with our kids, and another couple and their kids. We ended up visiting with a couple and their kids sitting right next to us. The atmosphere was very relaxed, and the adults were still able to talk while the kids played. We will definitely visit again when we are in town. read more

This is a really nice brewery...they had 2 gluten free beers that were delicious, music, a food truck, and a nice selection of other beers to drink. I think that for ambiance, the only thing I would change would be to turn down the microphone on the singer as it was too loud to visit. We had a sampler of beers. My family was visiting Bozeman in March 2016 to do some skiing. My dad and I both enjoy trying local craft beers so we were looking try a few different local tap rooms. We were recommended to check out Outlaw Brewing by the owner of our rental property. Outlaw is located on the northern edge of Bozeman, which we thought might be a nice contrast to the busier downtown area. When we arrived the tap room was busy, but not packed. It's a comfortable atmosphere, some families even brought there small children. The bar is in the center of the room, so there is seating all the way around it. There is also an outdoor patio and there was always a food truck in the parking lot when I was visiting. The beers were excellent. The Horse Thief IPA was the best IPA I drank while I was in Bozeman. I also really enjoyed the Russian Imperial Stout and the Belgian Quad. And the Gambler Amber. All of Outlaw's beers were well brewed and tasted fresh. They had a good variety ranging from a Cream Ale & Lager types to a Belgian Quad, Imperial IPA and Imperial Stout. After we stopped at Outlaw, we decided that we didn't need to look for another tap room. So we went back the next night. We went to a few breweries in Bozeman and I think this was my favorite. They had a great beer selection and all the beers we tried were phenomenal. I had the mexi-Cali lager and a honey ginger pale ale both were super tasty. My husband had the revolver IPA and the horse thief IPA and he enjoyed both saying they were both drinkable but had their own hop profile. Excellent service. Exciting environment. We've been coming here for three years and it's always our Go-To when tourist ask for recommendations. It's a hidden gem with a patio and friendly staff. Alicia, Taylor, Max, Fred and Eve are all very knowledgeable and approachable. The brewers are always coming up with fun and delicious ideas. It's a place you must go to if you are a brewery lover. We visited for the first time over the weekend, what a delight! The service was excellent and everyone was incredibly friendly. I don't like most beer, but my husband loves breweries, so I went along and promised to try a few tasters. I tried a couple, but they were too much for me (I'm wheat intolerant) and the ladies behind the bar were so understanding and kind. They kept offering me water or soda and made sure to check on me in case I changed my mind. The husband loved his beer, he had a pint and 3 tasters. Great atmosphere, we were there in the afternoon on a Saturday and the place was really busy. Not too noisy, but not a quite date spot either. They had popcorn available and the place was (surprisingly!) very kid friendly with plenty of families there too. Tumbleweeds food truck was parked outside and they passed around a menu of what was available from 4-8 pm, a nice touch to be able to order food! A definite must try for beer lovers! Would love it if they offered even some simple wine options, but I know that's not the point of a brewery... Decent beer, but don't expect to get service if you sit in the dining room. We waited 10 minutes and eventually had to sit at the bar for anyone to talk to us. I also ordered a water to start, and got a cup of warm tap water with no ice. They're definitely not focused on customer service here.
