Excellent food and excellent service. Locally owned husband and wife run the place. It made it make amazing drinks and the food was on point we got the salmon which is always overcooked at restaurants and it was perfectly done at this one. The six of us at one table ordered, then when she got to the next table where our senior citizen parents were sitting. My sister's in-laws wanted to order a meal to split and she refused. I failed to notice the Trump flag when we sat down and ordered. We stayed, ate the meal and paid for the food with a standard tip. But I will never come back. The reason is that it's NEVER appropriate to regale your customers with your politics. They have every right to support whom they want, and if I ASKED them their opinion, I'd never blame them for telling me. But customers come to a restaurant to enjoy the atmosphere, service and food, not to be beset with the owners' political opinions. I'd ask them... if you came into a place flying a Biden flag would you be OK with that? Just walked in with 8 adults and 2 little ones. Little one got up on a bar stool partway and before she said anything to us, she said "first of all the little one's got to get off the bar". At the same time she said it, he got down from the bar stool and I said "done" and we have 10 people. I fully understood that we were probably going to be seated at two separate tables with our group size, especially when they're strictly doing outdoor seating. Her response, with an attitude I might add, was "not a chance" and she walked away. All of the adults were so flabbergasted we were just like "wow, amazing". Something had really pissed this lady off and somehow she didn't want our group to eat there. We all collectively kind of made comments like "wow, I guess we're not welcome here" and she responded like "yeah we don't need you here" or something along that line. I can't remember exactly and I don't want to misrepresent but she basically invited us to leave. We were all so pissed off by her disrespectful attitude, we just went next door. To a spot called The Embers Restaurant and Pub. We got the most amazing service and terrific ale. Me and my buddies ride motorcycles up here every year and we will never stop at the outlaw again. I read all the reviews, and no I am not paid for this. And Yes I'm brown! Middle East brown! I can understand if the people that work here were sitting around chatting and ignoring their guests, but this is not what is happening. This is a family owned restaurant, and I've had the pleasure of eating here for four nights in a row. During this time I've also had the pleasure of meeting the lovely family that owns this place. They work as fast as they can. They do what they can to the best of their ability. They're a closely knit family and mimic the Brady Bunch. Seriously, they've got each others back. I admire this quality. I admire their loyalty. I admire that they work super hard to take care of every guest. What these people are not, are big city kiss asses. They mean what they say and they say what they mean. They are honest, hard working, and if you have the pleasure of knowing them, you'd see they are completely, and whole heartedly genuine. I understand in a small town sometimes it takes longer to get service, but honestly ask yourself when you're sitting at the base of the Wallowa Mountains with 75 degree weather on a gorgeous evening, "why am I in a rush?" I find it absurd that people come to a small town expecting a big city rush on everything. It doesn't make sense. Isn't that why you leave a big city in the first place? I highly recommend you taking time to meet these people and eat at their establishment. Come in with an open heart and not on an agenda. Breath the fresh air and take things in stride. Stopped by on our way out of town. We had heard good things. It took forever to get the menus, even longer to get some water. While ordering, several of our questions were answered with I don't knows. My sister got her salad way before the rest of us and before our drink orders even came out. When the rest of our food came out, the waitress touched one of our sandwiches with her bare hands. My husbands Cobb salad was served with very cold chicken and some unidentifiable crunchy something in it. Honestly speaking, the food itself wasn't bad. The staffs reaction to us not liking the service however was appalling. The hostess accused us of trying to scam them from the minute we walked in. And continued to berate us while we were trying to pay for our food. I get it y'all, the food industry is hardcore. My husband and my brother in law are both chefs that started from the bottom and paid their dues. My sister and I have both have at least 10 years of food industry under our belts. One rule that is unanimous across the board is don't touch food with your bare hands. It's a health violation and it's unsanitary. I'm sure they're going to tell stories about the terrible Karen's and Kyles that scammed them but you refused our money. That's not our fault. And I have zero regrets for yelling at you on your patio after you got entirely too close to my body. There's a pandemic going around. It's the reason you wear a mask. Don't touch my f*cking food with your bare hands. Correct your staff. The customer is not always right and most often they are wrong. But the women in this restaurant are trash. Slower than molasses when I comes to service. We came for a post hike meal and we're seated promptly but 15 minutes later we finally had someone stop by the table to take our drink and food order. Sadly the side salads came before our waters. Apparently they had one person on working for the front of the house. Once the food order was placed it wasn't too long for it to come out. First off the food was AMAZING but the customer service was SHITTY! It was by far the worst customer service we have ever experienced. She seemed to be bothered that we asked for a refill for the kids lemonade. It was 86 degrees and hot so of course they finished their drinks quickly. We finished our salads and left the forks on the plate before the main course arrived and she was upset to have to replace our silverware. I would recommend any other restaurant in the area. Camping at wallowa lake with the family and went into town for a meal. The owner basically told us there was no room when we could see open tables then when we FINALLY got to sit down I walked up to the bar and asked for a high chair for my 1 year old the waitress went to grab it for me and the owner told the waitress to put it down and if I wanted it I could go and get it myself and if I didn't grab it I didn't need it that bad. We had a dinner at the Outlaw based on the recommendation of the motel we were staying at. The food and service was excellent and we had a great time. Having been traveling for 7 days we'd had a few bad dining experiences and the Outlaw was a real highlight of our trip, so much we came back a second night to try it again. Gave them another chance, they failed miserably again. This time the owners mother literally yelled at us for walking up to the restaurant at 6:45. What restaurant closes at 6.45 anyway!! Ok, I've eaten at this restaurant in previous years. But, tonight, my family and I went there after having a wonderful dinner (after they had been rude and turned is away but then said wait come back) last year. This year we were told by the waitress to go ahead and have a seat but the wait for food would be a little longer then usual. After talking about this we decided to stay, so we went back in to sit down. As we were entering a restaurant another guy, the father of the owner I believe, told us that they basically aren't interested in any more business tonight. We said we had just been told that we could be seated it would just be a wait, so he said he didn't say that and now he's saying he put 4 more orders in so there would be 12 in front of us. Obviously we chose a different restaurant. I've been coming to Joseph for the past 30+ years and I don't understand how this restaurant continues to be patronized when other restaurants which much better food and definitely way better staff fails to make it for more then 1 summer in business! I have recommended this restaurant many times to friends. I will never recommend it again (in fact, I will suggest my friends stay clear of it entirely). When we entered, the owner was working behind the outdoor bar. She was visiting with a friend and ignored us for a good 4-5 minutes. Then, she told us she had available only two tables for six (there were three of us) and could not seat us. However, she changed her mind and decided to seat us at one but said we'd have to leave it if more people than the three of us showed up before we ordered. She pointed out the table and waited 20 min. before she took our order. My husband, in a calm voice, told her he'd attempted to make a reservation but the waitress with whom he spoke told him: no reservations. So then he inquired of her why all the reservation signs were on tables. That's when she explained the policy of saving her tables for larger parties. She snarled at him: "Do you have an issue with that?" I told her no we did not, and I was calm and polite. She still got angry and suddenly in a loud, obnoxious voice, attacked me about my allergy (which I had explained to her upon ordering). Other diners were watching and listening to all this. She hollered at me that their kitchen couldn't fix me anything because of possible cross contamination. She got angrier and angrier, red-faced, practically throwing a tantrum, waiving her arms in the air, actually bullying me about my allergy to garlic (and I sat there, saying not a word). Then she hollers in an even louder voice: "GET OUT OF MY RESTAURANT!" People around us were stunned. In fact, as we got up and walked out (again, without a word spoken from any of the three of us), another couple walked out, as well. read more

We had been on a long road trip where we stopped in some of the most delightful small towns in Oregon and Idaho. We were on a streak of phenomenal meals and friendly people. Unfortunately, this place broke our winning streak. The food was decent. I really liked my cheeseburger. However, the staff seemed a bit tense and stressed. The owner and staff fought a few times in front of us and they were all a bit disorganized. My mother, who helps run a few restaurants, picked out their problems right away. The owner doesn't know what he's doing, the cook is slow, and the staff were not adequately trained. They were not friendly and their politics were hanging all over the walls, which made this cute restaurant seem very uninviting. Many patrons were getting angry because some were waiting for almost an hour for food. Our food came quickly and the bartender seemed very attentive to us, even though you could cut the tension in that place with a knife. I hope they sort their problems out, but my parents already have bets on whether this place will be there when we get return. read more
