This is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to!! We decided to head to Big Bear for the weekend and got super excited to know we get to eat at the Outpost on the way (when you take the back entrance into Big Bear - which is way less treacherous from the high desert side that the front mountain climb side BTW) Anyhoo...we got here early around 9:30 am and we've never had breakfast here - and it was freaking amazing! We know their burgers are among the best in the country and our waitress, a long-time employee said it is because he buys high-quality meat. I agree and put an exclamation point on that! Based on that statement, girlfriend got the Ground Sirloin & 2 Eggs ($17.99) anc d cones with 2 sides so she got the biscuits & gravy (because when biscuits & gravy are homemade you gotta get them!) our waitress warned us that the cream gravy is pretty "peppery" but we love pepper in our cream gravy - and it was wonderful. Reminded me of the biscuits & gravy that my grandma would make when I was a kid & we would go up to the mountains. Her second side was the flapjack which was everything a flapjack should be. I had never had the chicken fried steak here so I decided to get the Chicken Fried Steak & 2 eggs ($17.99) - and being a self-proclaimed chicken fried steak connoiseur, I give it 2 thumbs way up! My 2 sides were buiscuits & gravy (of course) and hash browns which were perfectly seasoned & cooked 2 a golden brown...and perfectly delicious! I also got my eggs over easy and these were quite possibly the best over easy eggs I've ever had! The Outpost is still one of the best truck stop diners...EVER!!

In the high dessert off the 15 fwy / Pilot travel center Truck stop Outpost cafe established in 1961 in the City of Oak Hills Ca. Area of High Desert / Hesperia Ca . Happy Hour Monday-Thursday 3pm -5pm All burgers $2 off All pie $1 off All liquor $2 off All beer & wine $1 off Breakfast all day (except for waffles) Lana our server was spectacular!!! Her beautiful friendly smiles were warmly received by everyone. Her attentiveness with refills and checking in on us was awesome. The reason why I stopped here on our way to Las Vegas was for their mushroom burger, generous amount of mushrooms and with each bite the charred grilled smoke aroma of the meat. The meat it self needed salt , actually I prefer sprinkling my own salt anyway . Glad she recommended their fried pickles, Fried pickles in spears shape was an excellent choice, the shape maintains it's crunch when fried, the batter / bread crumbs seasoning offers crispy texture . I would change the zucchini to the same spears shape as the pickles. When fried the zucchini was too soft / mushy and did not hold its texture well. Or maybe slice it just a tad thicker IMO Definitely order: fried pickles , sweet potato fries , BBQ chicken sandwich and mushroom burger.. oh don't forget their pies!!!

I have passed by the area a few times and never noticed this cafe before. I checked it out on Yelp and decided to try it out myself. Walked in and was able to seat myself. The girl that took my order was nice and friendly. Inside was a very diner vibe loved the old school feel to it. They also serve beer lol I ordered the Hangman Burger with sweet potato fries and a side of ranch. Let me just say that the burger was so delicious and full of flavor I was very satisfied and impressed with it. The sweet potato fries were so fire and the ranch was insanely good!! I would drive here just to get a bucket of that ranch haha. Overall the meal was amazing and very filling! I will definitely be back to try more items and bring the family!

The food we ordered was the prime rib, breakfast and the breakfast three meat scrambler. The food was good. It was a good type of breakfast café spot. The only thing I will say is the wait time is crazy meaning not to have a seat cause you can just sit yourself but being attended to there's only two waitresses and it's a full house there. I feel like knowing they're right off of the main highway close to the freeway. They need to hire more waitresses besides that it's a cute little cozy place but like I say you try and decide.

With all the traffic among the multiple gas stations here, you would probably miss this unassuming structure, which looks more like an old home from a bygone era. Lucky for me, my curiosity got the best of me. When I went inside, it's like an undiscovered diner where locals seem to hang out. I sat at the counter to review the menu. I saw they have biscuits and gravy and asked if they still serve breakfast during lunch time. The elder server said yes. So I ordered it with one egg sunny side up. While waiting, I noticed the signs posted around the walls, the t-shirt servers were wearing, the portrait of the most interesting man above the fireplace...they have a fun sense of humor. My order came, I ate it all up...which means it's really good. I paid the server and gave her a tip. I'd come here again even if I have a full tank of gas.

This cafe is located off of 395. It's a wrap around restaurant and you can seat yourself. The service was great, the food was really good. Must try the house made chips! I can't find a negative thing to say about this place. It's a new favorite even if it's out of the way.

So a girl that I was seeing, we decided not to do the traditional family gathering this year. We decided to take a drive up to Outpost Cafe in Oak Hills. A cafe located off the 395 & next to Pilot gas station. I ordered the Turkey dinner & a coffee. Not only the plate is was big enough for two, they plate was flavorful & tasty. The waitress are friendly , courteous & very attentive. I can't wait to go back to try other things on the menu.

As good as it gets! Outpost Cafe kind of went off my radar. Me and my friends were looking for a nice spot for dinner! Do not expect fast, rushy service! This place is not for that. My experience at Outpost Cafe was relaxing and cozy. The staff was very friendly. The food you get per dollar at this place... Is big! The food was very reasonable and the portion were huge! 3 out of my 5 friends could not finish the main dish. Take away is available. My advice is do not forget to check in Yelp for a -10% discount off the bill! Our waiter was very nice. I enjoyed my time and would go back again! read more

Just had a late breakfast with my son. We sat ourselves in the dining area that is to the right as soon as you walk in. If you are looking for a reasonable amount of quiet during your meal, DO NOT SIT IN THIS ROOM! There is a generator of some kind that periodically comes on and is quite loud. We waited about 5 minutes for the waitress to take our drink order and then another for her to return with my coffee and without my sons water (it was the only thing he ordered to drink). She returned 5 minutes later with his water. We waited another 10 minutes for her to come back and take our food order. He ordered the half ham steak and eggs and I, eggs, bacon, hash browns. We split a short stack of flapjacks. When our food arrived, I have to admit, I was less that excited. THE PLUS SIDE The flapjacks were great, thick and fluffy. The biscuits and gravy were good too. The ham steak was one of the best I've ever sampled. Browned on both sides and juicy without being wet on the inside. THE NEGATIVE SIDE The bacon was fatty and thin. My over-easy eggs were overcooked and the hash browns were mushy They looked like crispy delicious hash browns on the outside but were like mashed potatoes when you dug in. During the meal at one point, my coffee cup was completely empty for about 5 minutes. I really hate that. Our waitress was friendly and warm but unfortunately, she was also way too busy to properly service her customers judging from the service (or lack thereof). read more

Ordered 1/2 burger and Tri Tip @ Around 3ish... Tri tip tasted weird, I think the source on meat n marsh potato is rotten. I had it to go. Please taste ur food before pick up. 1/2 burger, nothing special.... Habit or in n ourt has better burger. People in this area may have different standard for hamberger. Service was good. Food came out fast. read more

Surprisingly good truck stop food just of I-15 at the junction with CA 395. I had the club sandwich and it was great--lots of meat and good flavor. My waitress was very friendly. It's great to know that you don't have eat at a chain restaurant in Victorville. read more

Summary: Great traditional American food at a great price! If you're in the area, try it out! (I.E: if you're on your way home from Vegas) It's a diner, like a mom and pops diner. The service is great, this place can get pretty busy. I haven't had to really wait the couple of times I've gone. You just seat yourself and the server usually comes up to your table not too long after to take your order. It has a very casual atmosphere. They have books you can read while you're waiting for your food. Food comes out in a timely manner and it tastes delicious. The servers here are pretty attentive, always seeing if you need anything. Good customer service. Disclaimer: I've only tried the breakfast food they have, BUT I'm sure their other food is just as tasty. read more

I was given wrong directions to this place, but found it anyway. I 've decided to try every breakfast burrito offered in the state of California. So the Outpost came up. It was filled with some delicious eggs, cheese and all sorts of veggies and breakfast meat. To say it was big would be an understatement. The service was great, waitresses friendly and efficient. My only complaint was leaving the place, I couldn't find the 15 freeway north entrance. So I drove south for 4 miles to make a U-turn. read more

Good quality food with large proportions that can easily be split. Went here the other day with the family and was consumed by the smell of BBQ. Ordered a cheeseburger with bacon and was surprised by the quality and size. The bacon was thick cut and the burger was also thick. Ordered sweet potato fries as the side, which were equal in quality and deliciousness. We were sitting next to the pie display and asked if we could get a slice of pie. It also tasted homemade and was not overwhelmingly sweet. The waitress gave it to us on the house. Overall, a delicious eat. I would suggest splitting a meal because they are fairly large. read more

Ok finally came by to visit this place to do a proper review in person and I believe they deserved a clean slate so here goes They lost a star at the very beginning of the meal, I ordered a water and my wife an orange juice, the water is terrible, I mean horrid tasteing and I love water, so I decide well maybe a lemon will help, not even close it was worse so I suppose there lemons are bad as well, my wife's minute maid was great it tasted EXACTLY LIKE WATER so order the orange juice if you want orange flavored water, my suggestion is get better drinks and buy a water filter a drink is a big percentage of the meal I enjoyed my food a whole lot less because I didn't have anything to drink with it They loose another star because the veggie omelette I had was the burntest egg I've had in a while I suppose the only thing that saved the meal was 3 good things about this meal Pros: Very delicious biscuits and gravy it was on point! The salsa was great it really did the job chunky and flavorful My wife and hi really enjoyed the Home fries! Yet again they loose another star because it took 15 of having my plates on the edge of the table all stacked up neat and nice for her to finally come bring me the bill, I say and watched her at the table next to us greet the table, get drinks, and take there order, this establishment's owner needs to train his staff to be more attentive to all the tables, I would have really liked to not have wait for 15 min to have to ask if I could have dessert, instead I was brought the check first, so very simple attend to your table ask if they would like anything read more

First off - this is a truck stop. I feel like that should be made clear (which was not clear to me in yelp). This is truck stop quality food. While the atmosphere was somewhat nicer than most truck stops - it's still a truck stop. Not for date night lol. May be better for breakfast but we went for lunch and were disappointed. Could have had a burger from in and out that was better and cheaper. Waitress was nice and attentive. Just not what I was expecting. read more

It was ok. Took mom and fam out for birthday breakfast. Service was slow because our waitress was overwhelmed. Food was good and good deal with 10% off with check in. We will probably come back. I got the Travelers Special - french toast, eggs, bacon and a side of well done hash browns. My hash browns were not well done. My mother's order was late and came out after everyone was eating. Not good - reason for the three stars. My recommendation is to try it. The decor and history are worth seeing. read more

This place has stellar reviews so I was in the area craving a massive burger and decided to stop in. I stood in the middle next to the counter waiting to be acknowledged by the waitress for over 5 minutes while she walked RIGHT passed me 3 TIMES!! She attended to her other 3 tables searching for ketchup and mustard (place was far from packed) and still never said a word to me. Needless to say, I did not patronize them. Service goes a long way and a simple greeting or acknowledgement would've done it. Don't spend my $ where its not wanted. The decor was an interesting mix of old school paraphernalia and cabin/ranch style. But can't say anything about the food. Guess I have to find another burger place in the HD. read more

Pretty pretty good. I love trying cafes/diners. Had the Philly cheese steak sandwich on a freash soft roll , salad was a great full filling size. The trucker steak was a good as it gets with mashed potatoes and gravy were absolutely delicious. About to have the strawberry shake and banana cream pie. read more

Great diner food and service!! What sets them apart from the rest is all of their ingredients/sauces/dishes are fresh and made from scratch and believe it or not everything I had was not salty at all. Nothing beats freshly grated hash browns! This place has a motto of "Warm Beer, Lousy Food, Bad Service". I get the tough mantra being next to a truck stop but I experienced the exact opposite. Well, their beer may be hot. I'll have to find out if that one is true next time at dinner :) read more

The breakfast I had was real good. Had the bacon eggs and choice two sides 7.99. I do believe and husband had a sirloin and over medium eggs for 11 bucks. And now his waffle after the main course of breakfast. All was real good and a new spot to stop before going home... Waitress with the short hair was on it. read more

Personal conversations between servers should be done on their own time, not when there are customers waiting to be served. When you have to say "excuse me" three times to a waitress, when they can obviously hear you, that's bad service. She could have at least said "One second, I'll be right there" but as your surveillance tape will show, we weren't even acknowledged. We were not disrespectful, your waitresses were.
