I am so torn about this place. The location is fantastic, but everything seems very outdated. They do have all the basic amenities: pool, gym, restaurant. However, everything feels and looks so outdated. With what they lack, their location makes up for. Great for people who are willing to WALk and WALK the whole strip of Wakiki. This hotel is walking distance to the beach, zoo and the main street, which is filled with stores, cafes and restaurants. Our stay had some great qualities, but it was honestly a mixed experience. The service was excellent, the staff was attentive, and the view was beautiful. The food was okay the cafe food was actually better than the restaurant food, and the restaurant felt overpriced for the quality. They have a restaurant on the third floor, a cafe in the first floor lobby, and a cute souvenir shop. However, the pictures made the hotel and rooms look much better than they were in person. Our room was small and outdated, especially considering the price. When our flight was delayed due to bad weather, we only needed the room until about 4:00-4:30 p.m. so we wouldn't have to walk around with all our luggage. Unfortunately, the hotel wouldn't work with us and charged us for an entire additional night, even though we weren't staying overnight. Overall, we enjoyed the service, and view, but the room and lack of flexibility did not feel worth the price. read more

Stayed here for the week for a wedding inside the hotel, and the rooms are way to small for the price. Everything is in desperate need of an upgrade or renovation. The air conditioning for the wedding ballroom is non existent. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO HOST A WEDDING . They flip 3 weddings a day and rush everyone out or charge extra but don't offer an easy way in and out of the venue ONLY 3 small Elevators to service the hotel. The vendors had horrible experience with trying to unload and reload their stuff into the venue because of the lack of parking and elevators. Although we enjoyed our stay at this hotel, I felt it was very outdated. The rooms were fairly old and had a weird humidity feel to it. We paid to upgrade our room to a king suite with a balcony and diamond head view. I mean.... I guess we got that lol. I think because the room was on a lower floor it looked a bit odd (see pictures). The room was clean, but because it was outdated it looked rusty or crusty dusty in some areas of the bathrooms, balconies, appliances. I was trying to make it romantic for my husband 30th bday so I added on dessert and champagne. What we got was a little tiny airplane sized bottle of champagne for an individual and a tiny little thing of pre-made cookies for $45. Champagne small travel bottle was $30 and cookies were $15. Kinda a rip off I wouldn't recommend upgrading. The amenities they offered were nice. There were restaurants (popular ones such as the Deck) and cafes on site. They had water filling stations which I liked. They gave free water bottles in the rooms which was a cute gift! They also provided luggage holding for a fee I think $2 per luggage. Complete rip off. See the photos. They represented the room as having this clear view, but the reality is the room is alongside a large wall of rooms with air conditioners so if you go out on the balcony, all you smell is the disgusting heated exhaust from the air conditioners. The air conditioners are so loud. It vibrates the room and you can hear them in the room. This is a complete rip off. I'm so upset. I got to stay one night and I got had to stay in such a horrible space. And I'm local so I will never come here again. I asked for her to be moved and they just said oh well we just move you down in the same row so they don't care. The place is understaffed. It's very outdated and not worth the money at all. Hotel on the very east side of Waikiki close to the zoo. Cute boutique beach vibe. Mezzanine floor smells moldy, room carpet was damp. They did switch us to a new room that did not smell moldy or have mold in the shower. Floor was dry. Rooms are small but comfortable and really you probably are spending too much time in the room. Nice places to sit on the second floor and main lobby to hang out and visit. Valet staff are awesome!!! Pool area is small but has a pretty good amount of seating. Sad that they just remodeled the pool area last summer and pool tiles are already missing all over the bottom of the pool. The Queen Kapiolani Hotel is a solid spot to stay while visiting Waikiki. The lobby is open and welcoming with plenty of seating and a coffee shop. There's also a water station. At check in they offer a can of Hawaiian Sun, make sure you grab one before heading up to your room. The elevators are right by check in and while I was here there was never much of a wait. I was in a Queen bed room on floor 7 with a view over the pool of the ocean. The room was a good size and utilized the space well. It was clean and had plenty of pillows and outlets as well as a fridge. The provided reusable water bottles as a nice little gift and you can refill them downstairs at the water station. The bathroom was a bit outdated, but worked well and their toiletries smelled great and worked well. I love that they had a large bottle of body lotion- I tend to get burnt so hydrating my skin is extra important when I'm in Hawaii. The pool is small, but you have the ocean steps away so it's perfect for a quick dip or to lay out. It's also family friendly. At night it lights up different colors and I closed my blackout shades to keep the lighting from keeping me awake. The air conditioning worked very well and the bed was comfortable. I slept well both nights of my stay. They have a restaurant right next to the pool on the third floor where I grabbed breakfast one day and the food was delicious and the portions matched the pricing. The location is close to some great parks and walking areas and a bit further away from the busier part of the area. We were easily able to walk places or grab an Uber. Stayed for one week in a spacious room with a king bed, balcony, and a gorgeous unobstructed view of Diamondhead. Staff and service is super friendly, especially our housekeeper, Mata. There's a restaurant on the premises and coffee shop and souvenir stores in the lobby. The vibe is very casual, and it's one block from the beach. Honolulu zoo is across the street and the aquarium is a little further down. Close to everything. Great value for the money. There's a gym, art gallery, and lots of places to lounge around. Free lei making classes. Surf class and yoga too. Free refillable water bottles and filtered water stations in the hotel. The pool is awesome, right on the deck with that stunning Diamond Head view. This hotel was decent value for the price and great location; we stayed for about a week. When we arrived, the front desk was friendly (we also got a welcome drink). We were within walking distance of Waikiki beach, the Zoo, and tons of restaurants and shops. There were also cute little shops in the lobby area (including a small coffee shop), and a nice dining area on the 3rd floor. They also had a small art gallery on the 2nd floor with a brief history of Queen Kapiolani and other Hawaiian royals. The rooms were a bit outdated and small, but had all the basic amenities we needed (although I wish there was a microwave and more storage space). Everything seemed to be in good working order throughout a stay, and the shower water pressure was nice and strong, though I also wish there was a vent in the bathroom. It was really nice there were water stations everywhere with with reusable water bottles. We were on the 18th floor and the wait seemed slow sometimes for the elevators. We also really appreciated the complimentary valet parking (that came with our booking through Costco), the valet and bell staff were pretty efficient and friendly, and recommended places for us to sightsee. Came here for a wedding event only so my review is based on that alone, including valet parking. It seems like this hotel has the appeal of being super close to the beach and also has a deck restaurant which has nice views of diamond head. The deck restaurant is where the wedding was held as their a private space in the back of the restaurant that is closed off for events. Parking is valet which shouldn't surprise anyone if you're familiar with this area. We were one of the lucky ones as the valet actually got full and so some wedding guests (and probably many others) couldn't even utilize the valet and were directed to park around the corner which had a bit more expensive rates. The current rates are posted in picture. The whole process of the valet seems ok but it is very clunky process and a bit awkward at times/ not clear. The sign clearly says 5 hr restaurant validation for 21$ which is pretty reasonable for a wedding, unless you are dancing thru the night. The valet people direct you to this link on your phone that is supposed to help expedite things but it is quite confusing as it gives you the rates but then automatically applied a discount (which I thought was the validation since the price was close to the 21$. Come to find out that just after the 4 hr mark it then went up to $26 which is based on the additional hour so I guess I never got the special 21$. I just went ahead and paid it since it was close enough then the app doesn't tell you but you have to check in with the valet guy otherwise they don't seem to get notified that you're ready, even tho the app says that request received and your car will be ready soon. It also doesn't help that these valet guys are being overworked and constantly seem to be filled with requests so the timing to get your vehicle/ service is quite delayed. Hence the stars off. The event was actually pretty nice and it seems the hotel capitalizes on the fact that they have views of diamond head and so people will probably keep coming despite mediocre service and okay food. read more

My favorite hotel. If you looking to stay close to the zoo and the beach, this is the right hotel for you. Conveniently located on the end skirt of Waikiki, across the street from Honolulu Zoo, 1-2 blocks away from Waikiki beach, on the strip of Kapahulu where a handful of popular local eateries are located such as Rainbows Drive Inn, Zippys, Leonard's bakery, and even Safeway in case you need groceries or what not. Kapahulu ave is also easy access to the freeway instead being in central Waikiki where all the hustle and bustle is. Some times, some rooms might be able to hear/see the animals in the zoo, from the balcony's, which makes the experience a little bit more enjoyable and fun. Queen Kapiolani is a beautiful hotel with an elegant, historic, art gallery, a 24 hour fitness center, business center, popular open air restaurant on site - The Deck, which has lots of photo opportunities with the beautiful Diamond Head background, Knots Coffee shop located in the lobby of our hotel along with a snack shop, souvenir shop, and surf shop. They also have a concierge desk in the lobby if you need to book activities during your stay. My favorite things about this hotel is the location, close to the beach, the beautiful art gallery, and the 24 hour fitness center. What I love about this hotel is the rooms, well depending which room you book and which room u get, the suites with Diamond Head and ocean views are phenomenal. We were so lucky and Blessed to get 1817 to celebrate a special birthday for the wife. I'm so thankful and grateful. I came here to attend a wedding, not as a hotel guest. I did go into some of the rooms my family was staying at, but I did not stay long. The rooms looked like regular hotel rooms. They didn't seem special for the price. I ended up staying elsewhere as the pricing here was too high. I paid about the same for a basic room here and got a suite elsewhere. Not sure what that's worth, but sharing. Anyway, back to the wedding. The actually staff that was facilitating the wedding was amazing. The wedding ceremony went off without a hitch. It was so beautiful and such a gorgeous venue on the 3rd floor. I did have a couple family members who could not attend so I FaceTimed them to virtually attend the wedding. There were no issues with service (Verizon). The photographer had such a fun, outgoing personality. The woman who I'm assuming was the wedding planner/coordinator let me know the reception started late so they ran the risk of going over time (extra charge), but she was able to accommodate my request to give a speech. I kept it under 2 minutes as requested. The other staff not part of the wedding was a toss up. Two woman were incredibly rude to the wedding guests and others were at least nice. I get it, folks were in their way as they tried to deliver food. But there was no need to give attitude especially considering many of the guests spoke English as a second language. Anyway, the wedding was PERFECT. And it was lovely attending. But I'm glad I didn't stay here. read more

3 stars due to allergic reaction. However Service and staff were accommodating. I was in room 1218 and had a pretty dramatic allergic reaction to the mold and mildew that seemed to have been coming through the air conditioner. We were told it could be serviced but we would have to be out of the room with the animals so that wouldn't work due to schedule- we were able to switch rooms the last night of our stay. Also wanted to note I had ordered a lemonade / salad to the room and received an alcohol beverage - took a huge gulp to then realized it was so. She didn't smile she just told us the total of everything. Gave our keys and that was it. No thank you or enjoy your stay. Second day. We asked for our room to be cleaned. No maid showed up until the following day. It's understandable maybe they're short staffs, I get it. The valley people doesn't like to be bother except if they know they get a bigger tip. I booked this hotel because it was a preferred hotel for a friend's wedding weekend, but I was kind of underwhelmed. Pros - - location: this hotel is a few blocks away from the beach which makes it super convenient, it is also across the street from the Waikiki zoo parking lot if you want more affordable parking - Beach equipment amenities are good, you can check out beach chairs and towels easily with no added - laundry facilities are available on site, which was convenient because we have a toddler. it is pricey to do a load ($10), but it is better than nothing. - the Deck restaurant has a happy hour everyday from 4-6, cocktails were pretty good as were the happy hour appetizers Cons - - the rooms are old and quite minimal - there is also no option to make coffee in your room, which is a huge downside for me - valet was almost always full, meaning we either had to street park or find parking elsewhere - in their amenities listing, they make it sound like there are a bunch of activities and benefits that are paid for with the resort fees, but the 'free drink and dole whip sampler' are really nothing special. the sampler is quite literally a spoonful of dole whip. we also signed up for a lei making course ahead of time and they still ran out of flowers for my husband and I both to make a lei.. read more

Had the opportunity to stay here as Kamaaina back in October of this year so that we could attend a concert at Waikiki shell & although we were comfortable with a decent room with regards to Hawaii Waikiki standards we were overall left with a bit of disappointment. Growing up I had a lot of visits frequently to this hotel as my family was close with a family on the mainland who adores this hotel and knew about it and its interior well before its newly renovated state that you see now. They would only stay here and came annually with big groups reserving the ballrooms for dinner as well in large numbers. The good: The Aloha spirit with the staff and the beautiful views from the room. The convenient location to destinations in Waikiki such as Waikiki shell, Waikiki aquarium, beach and Honolulu zoo as well as other restaurants and shops along the waterfront. The areas of opportunity: The shower and bathroom. I liked the idea of the shampoo conditioner and body wash trio dispenser and its convenience however it wasn't filled and the lever which dispensed it was rusty and sharp and very noticeable. Luckily our family and my daughter did not get cut from it as I let them know. The price was a bit high for the time of year as well. My family and I absolutely loved our stay here, we didn't have any problems and definitely recommend. We received complimentary drinks upon checking in, free dole whip samples, two free reusable water bottles, a beautiful room view, and so much more. Not to mention it's a very short walk to the beach, including Waikiki beach. The only reason I'm rating 4 stars is because the parking could be better. We had a rental car and arrived in the evening to check in. We were told the parking was full and we would have to find parking elsewhere. We didn't think we would have a problem with parking since it was included for our stay, but having to look for street parking on the first night was not a good way to start off. We didn't get reimbursed for what we paid for street parking for that day, but overall it was just a little inconvenient. The alleyway leading up to the valet is also very small, so if there are more than 2 cars ahead, they may take a while to come get your car and you'll have to wait. Just a block away from the beach. So many ABC stores and restaurants around. Very walkable to everything. Just a 10-15 minute walk to International Marketplace. Overall.. Not bad for the price. The rooms were not the biggest but comfortable for 2 people. Be crowded if more than that. The room looked clean, but when we wiped it down, it was not the cleaniest.. There was dirt on our towel. The pluses were: shampoo, conditioner, body wash was provided. Window in the bathroom. Friendly check in and out. Valet got our cars quick. The negatives were: small room, dirty surfaces, no dresser drawers to store clothes, they gave us a room on the mezzanine floor which was a bit noisy with no view at all. I was a bit worried going into this hotel given the negative reviews I had read online, but overall, I was satisfied with what I paid for and what I got. My partner and I traveled to Oahu for five days and four nights. We reserved an ocean view room and we stayed on the 9th floor which had some of the best ocean views: These are some of the things I enjoyed: - Great prices in the Waikiki area. Walkable to a myriad of different kinds of restaurants and shopping areas. - Greeted with a Hawaiian drink upon check-in at the hotel. - Small fridge available in your room. - Restaurants available inside the hotel. There's a small cafe where you can grab something quick in the morning, or a restaurant on the third floor right next to the pool area, best for dinner and drinks. - Valet parking available (additional fees). Do keep in mind that the rooms are small. We got a queen bed room and it was a compact space. We did notice that the bathroom tub and shower curtain were a bit dirty when we arrived. Additionally, the bathroom mirror is the only mirror available in the entire room! This was a little annoying because I had to wait until my partner was done getting ready for me to do my hair. I wish they could add a small mirror in the room. Just know, it's located near an intersection where there is a lot of noise- we heard ambulances every 5 minutes or so, even with the windows shut. We were given room 1614- our head board was right up against the wall of the elevator so it was constant noise of the elevator going up and down. The carpet was very old looking and our new socks were very dirty after just walking around in the room. The room also had a weird odor to it. We loved the lobby/coffee shop. So agreed with other reviews that the rooms are really in need of a renovation. The pics for the room online do not reflect what your actual room will look like just so you know. Stayed here for 5 nights and it was overall great stay! Our room had a city view, which was nice. The room did smell whenever we initially entered room, but expected due to humidity and tropical environment. The room was small, but spacious enough. Loved there was a fridge. We didn't get the reusable water bottles since they were out, but offered plastic water bottles. At check-in, we received some juices. Loved they offered lei making class! Pool area has a great view of Diamond Head. Restaurant, deck, on 3rd floor was great as we were able to get food there when we got lazy to leave for the night. I also appreciated the filtered water machine. I had to take a star down because they charge $2 a bag for luggage storage if you are needing to store your items while waiting for flight later in the day. This has to also be paid in cash only. I would say the bell staff is pretty friendly compared to other staff. Also, enjoyed how conveniently located it is. Zoo is across the street. Beach is down the block. This hotel is a bust! We booked a 9 night stay and left after the 1st night! Started off by arriving and Valet was full. We were told to park at the honolulu zoo (across the strreet) and pay hourly parking. Honolulu zoo is not a good place to be at night to say the least. The valet crew was very friendly but you could see the look on their faces when they were telling us the parking instructions. When checking into the hotel the room was very out dated, and in poor condition. Bathroom was tiny and again outdated, and in poor condition. Blinds in the room were barely operable. The in house Restauarnt was ("The Deck") was really good. This hotel is in a bad area on the far east side of Wakiki. There are so many better choices than this dump of a hotel in Wakiki!!! read more

We just got back from our first time in Hawaii June 1-7 It was a surprise vacation to celebrate our 48th Anniversary, a gift from my Husband Travelers, be sure to specify your room type! We learned the hard way that an oceanview room isn't always what you get. My Husband booked 6 months in advance, specifically ask for Oceanview room, he called 3 separate times to confirm the reservation with a Oceanview room He was told that we would have a Oceanview room. We didn't get the oceanfront room, we were very disappointed (I cried, because my Husband planned this and didn't get what he paid for) He even talked to the manager, she didn't make things right with us, she didn't care, said it was fully booked. It was graduation week and they had two weddings. Despite our disappointment with the mountain view, it was a partial view of the ocean, we loved Hawaii and enjoyed the tours - Pearl Harbor, Jurassic Park Adventure ,the Zoo and the Luau were our highlights. Room was a little small but nice. First thing they say pulling up is they only offer valet parking, thats fine. Wait in line a little more then pull forward, they follow up with their parking is completely full, how is there all these rooms and not enough parking, quite inconvenient. They suggest we park at the zoo or find self parking, doesn't help that just about every parking stall that exists in Oahu costs money. Unload everything and go to park at the zoo, $1.50 an hour okay not that bad...only 4 hrs max. If you park your car and go up to your room to sleep at 10pm and don't come back down at 2am to put more money in the machine and print a new parking pass, boom ticket. Idk if it was just a bad time to be there or sum but just had a inconvenient experience, staff was still quite nice and i know its not their fault theres probably no parking but the higher ups/management needs to improve on their spot read more

The location is the only redeeming quality of this hotel. It's close to the zoo and the beach and offers a great view. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The room was very disappointing. The king bed was completely lopsided and extremely uncomfortable. I brought this to the attention of the front desk, but the staff member simply looked at me and took no action whatsoever. The overall energy among most of the staff felt flat and disengaged. This was especially noticeable at the coffee bar, where my coffee was barely warm and the barista seemed uninterested when I mentioned it. Later, when I went to the restaurant for dinner, I was told I needed a reservation for one person--even though the restaurant was half empty. It felt unnecessarily rigid and unwelcoming. I will not stay here again or recommend this hotel, especially when there are plenty of other first-class hotels that actually deliver first-class service. read more

Pool is COLD with limited seating Rooms are not sound proof -- All in all we really enjoyed our stay here. Pricing on the website is pretty straightforward. We splurged for an ocean view studio. The room is definitely smaller than I expected, but then I remembered I went for the studio and not regular room. Our Oceanview was fantastic. Staff are incredibly friendly. The location is perfect. The perfect accommodations. Located in a prime spot in Waikiki beach with a friendly staff. Our room accommodations met our standard, especially with a balcony to relax on and have our beer. Our room was able to stay extremely cold, exactly what we needed after our numerous hikes. We also enjoyed the coffee shop on the first floor of the hotel, the only thing we didn't like was the valet parking fee of $70/day so we did the parking in the street hassle. Other than the valet fee issue the restaurant and pool area was booming. What a nice hotel especially for this price. We've paid a heck of a lot more to stay just two blocks down the road in Waikiki. read more
