We stopped here on our way to Arkansas, and this is an amazing sports bar! This is by far one of the best for food, drinks, and TVs. We ordered the buffalo chicken nachos, the philly cheese steak nachos, and our kids split the chicken alfredo pasta. Declious food, and huge portions. I would highly recommend this place. Extremely slow service, good food, messed up check. So let's start the story from walking in. Seat yourself. Okay easy, we go sit down. Meanwhile there's two people working behind the bar and no one else on the floor. So these poor women are being asked to tend an almost fully bar and work the floor on a night that we found out was trivia night. We waited 15 minutes for menus. Ordered drinks and the appetizer. Then put the food order in. Those all came out super quick and were good but the staffing is a major issue. Meanwhile a guy, I assume a manager or owner, was just standing around then sat at a table to hang with his friends. If he wasn't an employee or anything there he was wandering behind the bar and changing channels so that's a whole other problem. I hate going places and seeing a manager or owner watch his staff flounder while grabbing some drinks and chilling. Then the check came. I was charged more tax than my guest who had a higher bill amount. Riddle me that one. My bill was about $16, there's was $22 but my tax was .60 more. Not sure how that works out. Also if you pay by card be prepared they up charge you for that because the owner is too cheap to eat the credit card charge for swipes and wants cash, likely to sweep it under the table and not report it for income. The amount they charge is also more than what the fees would be so note that too, just seems like a crappy owner. read more

My first time here was for a game watching party. I must say it proved to be a pretty good environment. I'm not a fan of watching games out because some fans get too serious but there was nice friendly fun to be had. The service was pretty good and so was the food. If I'm in that side of town, I would definitely eat there again. Look forward to visiting them again soon. read more

This Sports Bar is a great casual place to visit most anytime for a cool refreshing cold drink/meal with your friends or co-workers. Staff is always friendly and will make sure you are taken care of when you arrive with the food of your choice or a cold beverage. We have a regular group of people that visit here quite often as they keep different specials for everything whereas it is the food specials, the drink specials or upcoming events. We enjoy visiting each and every time. The location for us is nearby so we can round up the local neighbors and drop by to watch the different sports on TV or enjoy the weekly Trivia contest. I love coming here. Not only do they have amazing food, but you could not ask for better, friendlier service. Not only are the people who work here nice, but so are all the other people who come in. During Happy Hour, they offer (6) wings for $5- which pair great with their vast selection of beer which includes local favorites. Food service is usually very slow so I rarely eat here. Fries are usually bad /soggy. When you do get the food it's good. I do like their wings. They have or had some ridiculous signs up about being one of the top restaurant bar in the entire country on Urban Spoon. They aren't even a top bar in their zip code. So they obviously manipulated the results and are proud of it. With service this slow your food will be ready to eat even if the game goes into overtime. read more

Overtime is a cool bar on Lakeshore that seems to be kind of underrated. You can tell that they draw a lot of locals and that several customers know each other, which is a great sign for an out-of-towner like me. They have tons of flat screens to watch sports, which is great in the south in football season! I tried the jalapeno corn nuggets, which were phenomenal and went perfectly with the ranch provided. I haven't had any corn nuggets this good since! I didn't get any drinks, but they have a large beer selection. They also have several specials on weekdays, including trivia (which is great!). Love this place! All the food here is good, which is bar food and my favorite is the Buffalo Chicken Salad. It's a good place to grab a drink and there are plenty of tvs, pool table, and I think corn hole outside on the little patio. There are cell phone charging stations at the bar if needed. I was torn about giving Overtime 2.5 or 3 stars, so I rounded up and went for 3. I've only been here twice, and both times I just wasn't satisfied when I was finished eating. Sure, the food is okay, it's nothing bad. But its nothing great, either. It will fill you up and essentially get the job done but I just haven't found it to be enjoyable. The first time we went for lunch and I had a burger, and the second time I had chicken tenders in teriyaki/honey BBQ. I thought since you get 2 flavors that I would get a few teriyaki tenders and a few BBQ tenders, but instead they mixed the sauces together and put it on all of them. As you can imagine, it wasn't the greatest. On the up side, the staff is all really friendly, and they serve Red Bull which is always a plus for me. Overtime is hands down my FAVORITE bar in Birmingham. It has an atmosphere unlike any other. I am currently a student at UAB, and they make it possible to enjoy a great meal and a drink at a reasonable price. My favorite dish is the buffalo chicken nachos, and the cheeseburger quesadilla is a close second. It's always clean, and my food has always been hot and served within 10-15 minutes of ordering it if not sooner. They host trivia nights, and a large variety of other events to keep things lively. Definitely one of my new favorite places in Birmingham. The staff is great. You can't just come once. The place is like cheers. The more you come, the better it gets! I love having a waitress and owner even that know my order before I sit down. I also love how they partner w/ local charities to help them out with fund raisers and events. This place, feels and sounds like a bar but offers food. Location wise, it's a way off lakeshore heading to the industrial area. I first learned of this place through some friends and other reviewers. As I work at an operations center on lakeshore, this is the closest bar/restaurant to the center. Looking around the crowd is a bit thin, which only means you'll receive quicker service. Space wise, they have adequate seating and several pool tables. If you're looking to take a break then this is a great place to stop and have a "beverage". In all fairness though, the servers are very friendly and personable, but a little slow. The food is very well prepared and the bar tender was very good at making recommendations. Every time a new customer walked in the staffers were very prompt and greeted the guests cordially. Myself & 4 other classmates took advantage of our extended lunch today and chose to dine at Overtime Bar & Grill on lakeshore, I can honestly say I have NEVER experienced such disrespect, ever. I'm sharing this story because I truly witnessed racism with my own 2 eyes today as I sat in denial observing the workers trying to justify it by just being busy since I am a current employee in a restaurant. However, it's undeniable. Paul, the owner, got our drink order. Ryan, the server, delivered them, took our order, and was never seen again. 25 minutes later I stopped as she passed our table and asked if she could check on our food because we had been waiting several minutes she responded and said the kitchen was running about 15-20 minute ticket times and she politely stated it would be out shortly. I said thank you and then Paul came over in passing to let us know the food would be out momentarily. About 5 minutes later he dropped out food off and asked if we needed anything else, one of my classmates needed more Sprite, he removed her glass from the table & once again didn't return. After sitting there without her drink for 5 minutes I went up to the bar to find it had been refilled and not returned. Okay, so honest mistake it's lunch hour. Well another 17 minutes go by and no one has been back over to the table to see if everything was okay. Meanwhile, The same Girl who needed her Sprite refilled had ordered a cheeseburger quesadilla that was extremely greasy & she had wanted to order something else because she couldn't stomach the excess grease dripping from her food but as unfortunate as it is we were never provided the opportunity. So after sitting there for a solid 15 minutes... From 12:02 to 12:17 I observed everyone else in the restaurant being cared for with smiles and attentively. After finally getting upset I walked BACK up to the counter to tell the blonde lady I had no idea who our server was because due to the lack of service it was unclear but we needed our checks. So she comes to the table with them, I tried to explain to her that Alicia did not like her dish because of the grease, she identified herself as the day time manager but said she would get the owner... Who was Paul. He came over with ZERO intentions to hear anything anyone had to say. And proceeded to say my classmate would pay for her food because just because she didn't like it wasn't going to fly and get her free food. I then spoke up and told him that had we had any kind of decent service he would know it wasn't that she "just didn't like it" but that it was drenched in grease. He stated it had been served several times that day with no complaints & my attitude wasn't getting us anything. So I shut up and Alicia spoke. He snatched the receipt from her hand & balled it up. Starting grabbing plates from the table INCLUDING my food I had requested a to go box for. So I gladly told him to give me back MY food and proving yet again his lack of customer service offered had not given me my box. To top everything he added gratuity to our checks. I am a server, I am fully aware of how to tip. Seeing as how that's the way I provide for my 2 year old. I tell him I wasn't paying the $2.19 gratuity on my check and I wanted it removed. He said & I QUOTE, "That's unfortunate because this is my business and yes you are because you didn't read the menu and it states parties of 5 or more will have gratuity added." I told him legally he couldn't make me pay it and he told me yes he could and he was going to. Not only that BUT pictured in the comments is two different websites with his mine that CLEARLY STATES PARTIES OF 6 OR MORE. Then Paul proceeds to tell me I am BANNED from his business and not to return. With a smile on my face that was of no concern anyway. However, the 4 ladies I was with HAD NOT SAID A WORD YET & he looked at them And said by the way y'all are not welcomed here anymore either. Don't come back. Working in the restaurant industry for 7+ years privately owned or not I HAVE NEVER met someone who provided such customer service. No one wanted anything for free. In fact everyone but the one was super pleased with their food. But it has nothing to with my attitude, or any of that, it had to do with me Sitting at the table with 4 black individuals. Even in some of his reviews on Facebook this can be identified. So why is this important to me? Because it makes a TERRIBLE reputation for servers who provide their way of life with a job like this who truly face inevitable situations like the kitchen crashing, or the bar being in the weeds because of a keg change, or the dish machine breaking, or another guest had a severe allergy, so they may not be providing outstanding service to a certain person but it's not because they JUST SIMPLY DONT CARE, but because they're going above and beyond for someone else and they're not superman.
