View from the dining room

Windows on the Water in Morro Bay nails the fundamentals of a great evening out. The views are perfect, and the second story setup with the big windows is a smart, fun feature, especially at sunset, when the whole room benefits from the light over the bay. Food was universally above average across what we ordered. The fish was cooked well, and the chowder was a clear step up from standard. Our one disappointment on the menu side was that the already small, focused list was missing a few items we'd specifically wanted to try. The real issue of the night was the wait. Over 30 minutes for bread, and well over an hour for a meatball appetizer. We're not sure if that was a one off problem or something more systemic, but it was significant enough to become a defining feature of the evening. The front of house staff was understanding and clearly doing what they could, which helped, but it doesn't fully make up for service that slow. Not bad enough to keep us from coming back, the property, the food, and the views are worth it, but the kitchen pacing needs real attention.

This place had so much potential to be a phenomenal experience! My husband and I came here for our anniversary, and had high expectations especially because of the raving reviews. We made a reservation for 7pm, and didn't actually eat until 9:30pm. The server didn't offer to refill our drinks or water that we had obviously finished by the time our food came out. The actual main part of the dishes were incredible, we got duck and pork loin and they were cooked to perfection with amazing flavors. They told my husband when he booked the reservation they would provide a complimentary dessert (didn't request, they insisted), and he had to ask about it since it was overlooked. The view was gorgeous while it lasted, but if you're there after the sunsets there's nothing to see, so I'd recommend coming around 5pm for dinner or for lunch instead.

We made a reservation for windows on the water for our anniversary. We requested a window seat and we received the window seat. Service was amazing. Very welcoming very good atmosphere amazing views with amazing food. Everything was top-tier very great experience.

Good food and service, but the real reason to come is the expansive views of the bay and 'the rock.' The ambiance is somewhat dated but perfectly pleasant. We came in without reservations and were told there were no tables even though the restaurant was mostly empty. Perhaps they were just gating the restaurant. Whatever. We sat in the bar area where the full menu is available. The drinks and the food were good, service was even better.

This restaurant was just amazing. Staff greeted up immediately and views of the water were in every direction. Our waitress came by and told us the specials. Waters were kept filled and service was impeccable. I had the sand dabs which I had never had or even heard of on a menu. My daughter had the steak. The food was so good. The sand dabs were white, flakey fish. Almost melted in your mouth. We finished the meal with the ganache. It was excellent. We will definitely return to this restaurant.

Panoramic view of the Morro Bay rock in the dining room. Watched a sunset while we were dining there. Enjoyed the wasabi-induced crabcake, Bouillon styled chowder (not thick enough compared to the NE variety), and the very fresh seafood Cioppino. The crème brûlée was also authentic and creamy.

View was nice, and that was about it. The food was super fancy, but not worth the exorbitant prices. Staff were friendly.

I ordered the Calamity Jane burger, and wow, it was absolutely delicious and HUGE. You will honestly get full after eating just half of it. I also got a side of their potatoes with the spicy garlic sauce for dipping, and it was so good. Definitely a must-order! They also had a great selection of sangrias, which was a nice bonus. The only thing I'd mention is that it can be a little pricey if you're dining solo, so if you're going on a date, be ready for your pockets to take a little dent. Next time I come back, I definitely want to try the shrimp tacos because they sounded amazing. I was torn between those and the burger, but I went with my default order. Overall, delicious food, fast service, and a great spot in Morro Bay. I would definitely come back!

Had to park across the street in the surf shop parking lot for a handicapped space, luckily the traffic wasn't too bad crossing the Embarcadero. Waited quite a while to be seated. Loud concrete floor with metal chairs, could hear the conversation of all the other diners!! Distractions from people walking by on the Embarcadero, but great Rock view. Ordered cheeseburger with potatoes. Salad was "mixed greens" so I didn't order a salad. Next time I will get their wedge salad, but I didn't know if I could finish it with the burger and potatoes this time. Server said no fries or chicken strips becasue they don't have a fryer. Free refills for sodas, but only a little bit of ice. It was a bit syrupy and had a lack of carbonation, might have been Pepsi instead of Coke. Steak knife included with utensils, which came in handy because the burger was really slippery and I had to eat with a knife and fork!! Potatoes looked overcooked but that was because they are purple potatoes!! They tasted ok, luckily not too spicy like everything is these days. I liked the non-purple potato's texture better. Slow to refill my drink. I will come here again and have the wedge salad, from the pic it looks smaller than I expected this time around so it will be able to be eaten with a burger!!

The view of morro bay rock is beautiful while you enjoy your food. I ordered oysters and a clam chowder bread bowl. We saw otters from our table! Sadly, our experience with less than pleasant after first impressions. Our server was nice, but after waiting over 30mins after ordering, he finally informed us that the kitchen actually lost our order. He was apologetic, but that didn't make us feel much better after receiving our entire order nearly 1hr of ordering. I wish the food was good enough to make up for it, but I'm sad to report that it was just ok. I've had better elsewhere. We were offered an apology at best, but other than that, there was no other effort to right the wrong. Only reason why I decided to give 2 stars was because of the views, and the staff were not rude.

Cute gift shop, decor with country tchatchkes, doing some minor handiwork during open time - was a bit distracting. Loud with echoes due to concrete floors. Lots of loud local conversations heard across the restaurant, including discussions about city council meetings, etc. 3% Credit Card fee not posted in the menu, but rather on the board at the entry. Some people might miss this posting, which is unfortunate. Sat at a small table even though several larger ones were available and no one waiting. Seem to specialize in breakfast, which I have had here before and it was fantastic!! Friendly folks. Bottomless sodas, but they were flat and tasted too syrupy. Could have also been diet even though I ordered regular. Green leaf lettuce so I ordered a salad with my bacon cheeseburger and fries on the side. I appreciate that the server knew it was cheaper to get fries on the side instead of the salad on the side. Fries were seasoned a bit too heavy-handed, the burger was great., bacon cooked perfectly. Server quick to refill soda as I ate my meal. I will probably return here, especially for breakfast, but will pay with cash next time. We were greeted immediately by a very friendly waitress, who set us up at a table for eight with a spectacular view of Morro Rock in the back bay. My husband and I had been here for hors d'oeuvres before, so we had scoped out the menu. I knew whatever I had should involve some coconut shrimp. I ordered a Sauvignon Blanc while we contemplated the menu. One couple of our party ordered pasta with shrimp or pasta with salmon. My husband got the grilled chipotle salmon, and a couple of us got the captain's plate which had a big assortment of fried coconut shrimp, calamari, and fish on a bed of fries. It's the most spectacular view on the coast and it is perfectly set up as a happy hour hors d'oeuvre bar. There's a long bar, many different sized tables and even an outdoor area with tables on the porch. The food might be kind of standard fair but it's well done and it's very generous portions. The bartenders very skilled at making drinks. The server even suggested a honeybee martini which sounded very tempting, but most of us stuck to wine. The servings are very generous. The food is crisp and succulent seafood. The extravagant chipotle salmon was a little bit spicy, but well cook cooked throughout with delicate rice under it. Several people in this group have a prodigious sweet tooth, so we perused the desert menu after the meal. One couple got the triple berry tart, while my husband and I split the cheesecake. As a former New Yorker, I have high standards for cheesecake and this was a good B+ effort. It could've benefited from some caramel sauce or maybe more fruit on it. It was the perfect place to gather, to share lots of jokes and fun!

The restaurant has tremendously fine views of the bay and has additional parking for non guests. The Fish n chips was very good with the fish in contention for the best I've ever consumed. The fries were prepared with the upmost craft. Regrettable, the Cole slaw was a miss... dry. The shrimp tacos and the beans were also favored but, like the previous dish, the rice was also in need of moisture. The Steak Frites was the highlight of the table and a must order. The deserts were both fantastic but the Apple Cobbler was to die for. If you traveled 100 miles only to order the cobbler... it would be worth your time. Clearly there was a master chef behind the scenes wielding magic. Being the first night at the Inn, the Inn seems to be a hidden gem of Morro Bay. I would recommend venturing to this peaceful refuge.
