Made a reservation in advance and came here with family for a dinner and thought overall it was a good experience. There's no dedicated parking but there's plenty of street parking around the area. The restaurant is located on the second floor of a building with windows facing the ocean, so the name was very fitting. A lot of the seats allowed guests a nice view of the outside/ocean. We were able to get a window seat and was able to enjoy a nice sunset view and take lots of photos by their balcony area. We ordered the halibut, black cod, cioppino, dungeness crab cake, mixed greens and all the dishes were all decent but I can't say I was blown away by any of them. The dishes were on the pricier side as well. Overall the service was good and they were attentive with checking in on us and refilling the water. The only surprising thing about the place was that there was an additional 3% fee on credit card transactions which they apparently indicate on their menu (which I missed), and the waiter didn't mention either, so I was taken back when I saw it on the bill. While I understand they're trying to offset their costs, it is pretty rare these days and I wish the waiter gave us a heads up. Overall, the view was great and the food was decent. read more

This place had so much potential to be a phenomenal experience! My husband and I came here for our anniversary, and had high expectations especially because of the raving reviews. We made a reservation for 7pm, and didn't actually eat until 9:30pm. The server didn't offer to refill our drinks or water that we had obviously finished by the time our food came out. The actual main part of the dishes were incredible, we got duck and pork loin and they were cooked to perfection with amazing flavors. They told my husband when he booked the reservation they would provide a complimentary dessert (didn't request, they insisted), and he had to ask about it since it was overlooked. The view was gorgeous while it lasted, but if you're there after the sunsets there's nothing to see, so I'd recommend coming around 5pm for dinner or for lunch instead. read more

We called in a reservation for 7pm and requested a window table. We got a window table, but unfortunately it wasn't face the morro rock. Perhaps it was due to time of reservation. The weather was a bit foggy so we couldn't really see the rock anyway. We had the Burrata appetizer, along with the local oysters on the half shelf. We also had the salmon dish and the lobster linguine. I'd say out of all of that the Burrata was the best part. The servers were nice and joined in our silly jokes and were very accommodating to our seven year old daughter (who also had the salmon. I did not see a kids menu). We are staying at the Ascot Suites hotel, so we walked a block or so to get there. Very quick walk. There's no parking at the restaurant but you can basically park along any joining street. The lighting and ambiance was quite nice and relaxing. Great for an after Disneyland experience like we had. read more

We came to Morro bay for Mother's Day weekend and tried out Windows on the Water. The service was pretty good and the ambience was amazing on the water. The food was way overpriced and had no flavor. We had the crab cakes and fresh sourdough for appetizers and maybe a 2/5. Then we had the fresh halibut and lobster linguine and it was a 1/5. Absolutely no flavor. $55 for the linguine and $46 for the halibut. I'm a big foodie and don't mind paying a high price for great food but I would highly recommend going somewhere else . read more

This review requires some explanation. Two years ago my wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Windows on the Water and the experience was lovely and memorable. The food and views were amazing. It was everything we'd hoped for. Since then, however, we have been unable to book a return because they seem to close for private events on the weekend around our date. We don't live locally, so the visit to Morro Bay is part of our splurge and we can't come mid-week. I'm not blaming anyone, just reporting my experience. This restaurant was just amazing. Staff greeted up immediately and views of the water were in every direction. Our waitress came by and told us the specials. Waters were kept filled and service was impeccable. I had the sand dabs which I had never had or even heard of on a menu. My daughter had the steak. The food was so good. The sand dabs were white, flakey fish. Almost melted in your mouth. We finished the meal with the ganache. It was excellent. We will definitely return to this restaurant. read more

Upon arrival you can't help but notice the amazing view of the bay from every seat in the restaurant. Staff were kind and professional throughout the entire experience. Had a wonderful time dining here for dinner this past weekend. Ambience was nice as we sat by the window. We started off with a burrata & it was delicious! As for our main course, I ordered the scallop dish & scallops were cooked to perfection however, the seasoning of the entire dish was a bit salty for my liking otherwise, flavorful. Husband ordered pasta & he enjoyed it. We ordered a bottle of red wine & it paired so well with our dish. I just wish there was a sommelier who had knowledge about wines & that could've recommended one for us bc our server & other servers had zero knowledge about their wine list which I thought was odd. I have made reservations for 5 o'clock, but a play we were at ran over. So I called the restaurant and told him we wouldn't get there till like 5:30 and Paul said no problem. Laura was our server and she made recommendations and was just the right amount of being attentive. I was looking forward to The Halibut but they were all out. My girlfriend had the White Wine flight and said she liked all the wines. I had 2 Old Fashions, which were pretty good. The husbands were the designated drivers, so drank water. My husband and I both had the Bread service and the Salmon, which was just right. I do love black rice and goes well with Salmon. My girlfriend had the clam and shrimp linguine and said it was good, she was the only one that had leftovers. I forgot what her husband had. We were looking for a restaurant that specialized in seafood while we were staying in Morro Bay and this place exceeded our expectations. We had their seafood cioppino for our main course which was fantastic along with a nice salad and their version of clam chowder which really surprised us because it was so good. We really enjoyed our dinner and the service was just excellent! A few details. Due to my own fault, the reservation I had requested for our 35th anniversary did not go through. We walk in to the beautiful restaurant overlooking the harbor and Morro Rock at 5:30pm on the Saturday evening thinking all is set. A very nice young woman looks at the reservation book and cannot find my reservation. She also informs me that a wedding party is coming in and so would not be able to seat us until 8pm at the earliest. I explain that I had submitted my request about a week before, but had not seen any confirmation. After a quick search on my cell, I did find a response from a Paul Merkle, general manager, advising that my requested 5:30pm time was not available. To be fair, I let the receptionist know that this was my error and that Mr. Merkel has sent me a note 6 days ago saying the time was not available. Without any request by us, the receptionist said she would speak with Mr. Merkel to see if something coukd be done. Upon her return, she said with a smile, we can seat you at 6pm..OMG, we were overwhelmed with appreciation (saving my hide from a not so good 35th anniversary blunder!) We walked over to the lounge area to wait and were immediately greeted by a server who brought us water and then our ordered ice teas. At 6pm, a nice waiter came over to us to inform that our table was ready. When I approached the server who brought us our ice teas, she motioned to follow our waiter as the teas could be added to our dinner..very nice. Our waiter led us to an outstanding cozy table adjacent to a window with a fabulous view of the harbor, and Morro Rock. Just the best! We ordered the Burrata as an appetizer (recommended by our waiter) and we were not disappointed. Then onto a Mixed Greens and a BLT salad, which were both excellent in flavor and presentation. I then ordered the Local Halibut and my wife chose the Coho salmon. Again, excellent choices for flavor and the large portion of fish (some restaurants serve paper thin filets of fish..NOT here!!) Both filets were tasty, very moist, and prepared just perfectly. As if the evening could not get any better, we ordered two outstanding desserts, the Kaffir Lime Creme Brulee and Lemon Mousse. I loved the Lemon Mousse; tart with just the right amount of sweetness and two of the largest raspberry, some large blackberries and strawberries.. My wife's brulee was equally adorned with the giant raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries!!! Many thanks to Mr. Merkle, our waiter, louge server and receptionist for making our 35th anniversary dinner just perfect, in spite of my blunder. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the Morro Bay area!!! read more

We had our 40 year class reunion last night at Windows On The Water. The entire experience was flawless. The room looked beautiful. The food was delicious and the restaurant staff were top notch. I was so impressed with the ease and constant attention the staff took with the care of our party. They began with passed appetizers and then we sat down for a beautiful four course meal served without a single wait period. Paul, the general manager made sure to address our every need. He checked in with us periodically to make sure everything was going okay and we were happy. I'm so glad we chose to have our reunion at Windows on the Water. We stopped for a light dinner on the way from Hearst Castle to Pismo Beach. Service was ok, our waiter was a little snooty in the beginning but his attitude improved through the evening. You are definitely paying for the view. The food is on the pricier side. Two of us ordered the soup of the day which was vegetable and beef soup but one of them had no beef in it. The kitchen should have ensured each bowl has proportionate vegetable to beef. Well I was very sad to say my excitement on coming here left me sadly disappointed. The absolute best part of our whole experience was our server. He absolutely made our night amazing. Came here to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday. Her one wish was some delicious seafood. Unfortunately the first 2 dishes she was hoping to order were sold out. While I respect and understand that fresh ingredients may mean limitations due to local availability I think there is probably another way to handle this with a bit more grace. 3 out of the 4 of our party members had to order something different due to the entrees being sold out. Mind you we did not arrive late in the evening. One of my very favorite items to get is fresh shucked oysters. Since no one else was really interested in having any, I was on my own. So I do what I have done many a time, pivoted and ordered 2 appetizers for my dinner. Started out with Oysters. I've shucked my own oysters only once and had less shells in the presentation. I had to choke a few of them down after I found there was so much shells it made me want to gag. I'm all for the occasional shell because lets be honest, oysters can be fickle to shuck. In a restaurant of this caliber this was certainly not what I was expecting. We had the perfect night to dine al fresco and their upper deck was perfect for that, The night was clear and surprisingly warm so we didn't need the heaters. The pork chop and shrimp dish were raved about from the rest of my crew, I just happened to have not the same experience. Far be it from me to judge from my two apps alone so ignore me if its not your fav. I still will be back just based on the pure experience from our waiter who made our experience so amazing. I only wish I could remember his name - to the Cal Poly grad who thought a court room was your life path, you made our night and are the main reason we will come back for another try. Food here was very tasty. I would definitely come back here especially on a Tuesday for their $0.75 oysters on the half shell or fried. Service here was also exceptionally good. Our servers name was Eric and he definitely made our experience here very worthwhile. His recommendations of food were definitely on point. We ordered the clam chowder, soft shell crab, oysters on the half shell, fried oysters, diver scallops, steak, assorted ice creams(seasonal flavors: pumpkin, strawberry, and amaretto), and the creme brulee. Would definitely come back here the next time I'm in the area. Oysters were super fresh and the fried oysters were resting in a very tasty bed of tomatillo creme sauce which Eric, our server, gave us a basket of bread to soak up the delicious tomatillo creme sauce. Soft shell crab was a nice surprise. Wish there was more than one crab but it was bursting with crab eggs. The soft shell crab was reminiscent of shisamo(little anchovie looking like fish that are filled with eggs). Clam chowder is definitely one of the best in the area. We went to 2 other places (The Galley and Giovanni's) to compare chowders. The one here at Windows definitely had a homemade feel to it almost as if "Giada" made it herself haha. Rather than go for the biggest clams on the market I like how they used smaller clams so every spoonful was bursting with potatoes and clams. The added bacon was also a very welcome addition. Diver scallops were very fresh and flavorful. The scallops and the cauliflower puree were definitely paired perfectly. I've never been a fan of quinoa buy their red quinoa was prepared perfectly. The steak was cooked perfectly. Asked for medium rare and was served exactly at medium rare. The balsamic caramelized onions worked very well with the steak too. read more

Beautiful view of Morro bay at sunset. Being celiac we really appreciate the gluten-free options on the menu as it makes ordering a whole lot easier. Started with the crab cake, which was absolutely delicious except you only get one! I feel for the price 2 would have made more sense. Second course was the duck salad which was a total fail for us due to the fact that the rare duck is served ice cold on a cold salad of spinach. Honestly, if they would wilt the spinach, and serve the duck breast warm, it would have been so much better. Did not even finish the salad, which was a shame. Third course.....the sand dabs! First time trying this particular fish, and the way they prepared it knocked our socks off! Win! Would definitely return for dinner, but rather than the salad, would order another crab cake. read more
