We called in a reservation for 7pm and requested a window table. We got a window table, but unfortunately it wasn't face the morro rock. Perhaps it was due to time of reservation. The weather was a bit foggy so we couldn't really see the rock anyway. We had the Burrata appetizer, along with the local oysters on the half shelf. We also had the salmon dish and the lobster linguine. I'd say out of all of that the Burrata was the best part. The servers were nice and joined in our silly jokes and were very accommodating to our seven year old daughter (who also had the salmon. I did not see a kids menu). We are staying at the Ascot Suites hotel, so we walked a block or so to get there. Very quick walk. There's no parking at the restaurant but you can basically park along any joining street. The lighting and ambiance was quite nice and relaxing. Great for an after Disneyland experience like we had. read more

We ate here for our 30th wedding anniversary. Reservation went smoothly (they'll call you back). Table was a window seat looking right at the Rock - as requested. The lady that sat us was delightful, and our server "Trina" was fantastic. We were in no hurry, and she was as equally accommodating. The Lobster Bisque was so yummy! For our entrées we had the halibut and the pork chop. Perfectly prepared with delicious sides. After watching the sun go down and completing dinner, we finished with the chocolate raspberry ganache. Happy hour at Windows on the Water exceeded any expectations! Got in line early as locals recommended, were went at 4:45 and there were already two people in line. They opened at 5 on the dot and I thought there would only be a few seats at the bar, with so many in line I was happy to seat there was a bar area and all of us were able yo sit. At the bar everyone was friendly so not only can you enjoy wonderful pizza, oysters, and other specials at great prices you can enjoy speaking with locals and staff to get to know more about the area. The view is spectacular, water just outside the windows. Highly recommend! read more

Made a reservation in advance and came here with family for a dinner and thought overall it was a good experience. There's no dedicated parking but there's plenty of street parking around the area. The restaurant is located on the second floor of a building with windows facing the ocean, so the name was very fitting. A lot of the seats allowed guests a nice view of the outside/ocean. We were able to get a window seat and was able to enjoy a nice sunset view and take lots of photos by their balcony area. We ordered the halibut, black cod, cioppino, dungeness crab cake, mixed greens and all the dishes were all decent but I can't say I was blown away by any of them. The dishes were on the pricier side as well. Overall the service was good and they were attentive with checking in on us and refilling the water. The only surprising thing about the place was that there was an additional 3% fee on credit card transactions which they apparently indicate on their menu (which I missed), and the waiter didn't mention either, so I was taken back when I saw it on the bill. While I understand they're trying to offset their costs, it is pretty rare these days and I wish the waiter gave us a heads up. Overall, the view was great and the food was decent. read more

Windows on the Water in Morro Bay nails the fundamentals of a great evening out. The views are perfect, and the second story setup with the big windows is a smart, fun feature, especially at sunset, when the whole room benefits from the light over the bay. Food was universally above average across what we ordered. The fish was cooked well, and the chowder was a clear step up from standard. Our one disappointment on the menu side was that the already small, focused list was missing a few items we'd specifically wanted to try. The real issue of the night was the wait. Over 30 minutes for bread, and well over an hour for a meatball appetizer. We're not sure if that was a one off problem or something more systemic, but it was significant enough to become a defining feature of the evening. The front of house staff was understanding and clearly doing what they could, which helped, but it doesn't fully make up for service that slow. Not bad enough to keep us from coming back, the property, the food, and the views are worth it, but the kitchen pacing needs real attention. read more

This place had so much potential to be a phenomenal experience! My husband and I came here for our anniversary, and had high expectations especially because of the raving reviews. We made a reservation for 7pm, and didn't actually eat until 9:30pm. The server didn't offer to refill our drinks or water that we had obviously finished by the time our food came out. The actual main part of the dishes were incredible, we got duck and pork loin and they were cooked to perfection with amazing flavors. They told my husband when he booked the reservation they would provide a complimentary dessert (didn't request, they insisted), and he had to ask about it since it was overlooked. The view was gorgeous while it lasted, but if you're there after the sunsets there's nothing to see, so I'd recommend coming around 5pm for dinner or for lunch instead. read more

Let me start by saying the drinks are great! The food is another story. Happy hour the pizza is solid,not much love. The veggies aren't even cooked . Had the shrimp,steak bites and oysters. The steak bites taste freezer burned and old,taste so nasty. The oysters yum and wish the pizza had just a bit more love. Our waitress was okay. What I mean she was missing and kind of there???? The clam chowder at $18 is a sad joke just watery and 5 claws. So sad. The shrimp was okay. I have come here for dinner and we spent $450. But didn't realize you need to pay for bread service and no butter and no oil. Just be aware. It's definitely disappointing We used to live in the bay area and this is disappointing . Will bot be bringing family or friends here. Do better! We paid over $100 for happy hour and was not good. Another couple walked out and said they hated the service. This review requires some explanation. Two years ago my wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Windows on the Water and the experience was lovely and memorable. The food and views were amazing. It was everything we'd hoped for. Since then, however, we have been unable to book a return because they seem to close for private events on the weekend around our date. We don't live locally, so the visit to Morro Bay is part of our splurge and we can't come mid-week. I'm not blaming anyone, just reporting my experience. This restaurant was just amazing. Staff greeted up immediately and views of the water were in every direction. Our waitress came by and told us the specials. Waters were kept filled and service was impeccable. I had the sand dabs which I had never had or even heard of on a menu. My daughter had the steak. The food was so good. Had a wonderful time dining here for dinner this past weekend. Ambience was nice as we sat by the window. We started off with a burrata & it was delicious! As for our main course, I ordered the scallop dish & scallops were cooked to perfection however, the seasoning of the entire dish was a bit salty for my liking otherwise, flavorful. Husband ordered pasta & he enjoyed it. We ordered a bottle of red wine & it paired so well with our dish. I just wish there was a sommelier who had knowledge about wines & that could've recommended one for us bc our server & other servers had zero knowledge about their wine list which I thought was odd. I have made reservations for 5 o'clock, but a play we were at ran over. So I called the restaurant and told him we wouldn't get there till like 5:30 and Paul said no problem. Laura was our server and she made recommendations and was just the right amount of being attentive. I was looking forward to The Halibut but they were all out. My girlfriend had the White Wine flight and said she liked all the wines. I had 2 Old Fashions, which were pretty good. The husbands were the designated drivers, so drank water. My husband and I both had the Bread service and the Salmon, which was just right. I do love black rice and goes well with Salmon. My girlfriend had the clam and shrimp linguine and said it was good, she was the only one that had leftovers. I forgot what her husband had. Upon arrival you can't help but notice the amazing view of the bay from every seat in the restaurant. Staff were kind and professional throughout the entire experience. We came to Morro bay for Mother's Day weekend and tried out Windows on the Water. The service was pretty good and the ambience was amazing on the water. The food was way overpriced and had no flavor. We had the crab cakes and fresh sourdough for appetizers and maybe a 2/5. Then we had the fresh halibut and lobster linguine and it was a 1/5. Absolutely no flavor. $55 for the linguine and $46 for the halibut. I'm a big foodie and don't mind paying a high price for great food but I would highly recommend going somewhere else . read more

We were looking for a restaurant that specialized in seafood while we were staying in Morro Bay and this place exceeded our expectations. We had their seafood cioppino for our main course which was fantastic along with a nice salad and their version of clam chowder which really surprised us because it was so good. We really enjoyed our dinner and the service was just excellent! A few details. Due to my own fault, the reservation I had requested for our 35th anniversary did not go through. We walk in to the beautiful restaurant overlooking the harbor and Morro Rock at 5:30pm on the Saturday evening thinking all is set. A very nice young woman looks at the reservation book and cannot find my reservation. She also informs me that a wedding party is coming in and so would not be able to seat us until 8pm at the earliest. I explain that I had submitted my request about a week before, but had not seen any confirmation. After a quick search on my cell, I did find a response from a Paul Merkle, general manager, advising that my requested 5:30pm time was not available. To be fair, I let the receptionist know that this was my error and that Mr. Merkel has sent me a note 6 days ago saying the time was not available. Without any request by us, the receptionist said she would speak with Mr. Merkel to see if something coukd be done. Upon her return, she said with a smile, we can seat you at 6pm..OMG, we were overwhelmed with appreciation (saving my hide from a not so good 35th anniversary blunder!) We walked over to the lounge area to wait and were immediately greeted by a server who brought us water and then our ordered ice teas. At 6pm, a nice waiter came over to us to inform that our table was ready. When I approached the server who brought us our ice teas, she motioned to follow our waiter as the teas could be added to our dinner..very nice. Our waiter led us to an outstanding cozy table adjacent to a window with a fabulous view of the harbor, and Morro Rock. Just the best! We ordered the Burrata as an appetizer (recommended by our waiter) and we were not disappointed. Then onto a Mixed Greens and a BLT salad, which were both excellent in flavor and presentation. I then ordered the Local Halibut and my wife chose the Coho salmon. Again, excellent choices for flavor and the large portion of fish (some restaurants serve paper thin filets of fish..NOT here!!) Both filets were tasty, very moist, and prepared just perfectly. As if the evening could not get any better, we ordered two outstanding desserts, the Kaffir Lime Creme Brulee and Lemon Mousse. I loved the Lemon Mousse; tart with just the right amount of sweetness and two of the largest raspberry, some large blackberries and strawberries.. My wife's brulee was equally adorned with the giant raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries!!! Many thanks to Mr. Merkle, our waiter, louge server and receptionist for making our 35th anniversary dinner just perfect, in spite of my blunder. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the Morro Bay area!!! read more

Windows On the Water was our favorite place we ate during our trip to Morro Bay. Everything about this place is absolutely fantastic! The views are spectacular of the harbor and Morro Rock. The food was plated beautifully and was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend The Dungeness Crab Cake starter. Best crab cake I have ever tasted. The New York Steak was also fantastic, tender and cooked to perfection.The Avocado-Chimichurri, Bordelaise paired great with the steak and Yukon Mashed potatoes and garlicky broccolini. My partner got the ahi tuna and enjoyed it. The service was awesome. I will be eating here from now on when we visit Morro Bay. read more

We had our 40 year class reunion last night at Windows On The Water. The entire experience was flawless. The room looked beautiful. The food was delicious and the restaurant staff were top notch. I was so impressed with the ease and constant attention the staff took with the care of our party. They began with passed appetizers and then we sat down for a beautiful four course meal served without a single wait period. Paul, the general manager made sure to address our every need. He checked in with us periodically to make sure everything was going okay and we were happy. I'm so glad we chose to have our reunion at Windows on the Water.
