Ralph N Rich's was one of my favorite restaurants when I lived in Connecticut. It opened around 1990 and still serves some of the best food I have ever had. My go to dishes have always been and continue to be the Prince Edward Island oysters and the slow roasted prime rib, served with Italian au jus, swirled mashed potatoes, and sautéed vegetables. I really enjoyed another meal here! We started out at the bar for happy hour. Bartender was amazing and made me a delectable chocolate martini. I also tried the toasted coconut martini, which was excellent. For entrées, I had the chicken Parm and spaghetti with a Caesar salad and my friend got the pasta Bolognese. I'll Definitely Be Back for Round Three! This was my second visit to this cozy gem, and I'm already excited for the third! The service is truly exceptional--warm, attentive, and genuinely helpful. They've mastered that perfect balance with the ambiance too--background music that's enjoyable but never too loud to drown out conversation. I kicked off the evening with a delicious dry vodka martini, while my companion enjoyed the house chianti, which was more than fine for a casual night out. We were welcomed with complimentary bread and butter, a nice touch that set the tone for a great meal. We both started with the Caesar salad--super fresh and flavorful. A quick tip: if you prefer a lighter touch on the dressing, ask for it on the side. The eggplant rollatini? Pretty solid. The chicken francais was very good, with perfectly sautéed carrots and zucchini on the side. However, the mashed potatoes were a bit underwhelming for me. Just butter, milk, salt, and pepper would've hit the mark. But the meal ended on a high note with a great cup of coffee and their house-made apple cake--a sweet and satisfying finish. Bonus points for the location: just a 10-minute walk from the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater, making it a perfect pre-show stop. Will I be back? No doubt about it! read more

Doesn't get much better than a nice meal over at Ralph and Rich's. Came here on an early Saturday night with my wife and we're seated in the lounge. Started off with some drinks I got a beer and she got an expresso martini which she loved. Bread is delicious as well, good service from both the waiter and the bus boy. It's a cozy Italian place, dimly lit, red painting on the walls, doesn't get much more Italian. They have parking in the lot behind the building which they validate just as an FYI. I ordered the chicken parm, how could I not? Two good size cutlets with cheese and there rich sauce, drooling thinking about. Loved the portion of pasta that comes with it, just enough. My wife got the chicken piccata which came with veggies and a mixed mashed potato mix which had some sweet potato in it, she liked it but maybe would opt in for something else as a side next time. Sorry to say Ralph and Richie is not the same. Not sure what happened, but we went there last night for dinner and we're disappointed . Bread came out not warm and probably day old . The calamari appetizer tasted fishy . Next we ordered the sausage and meatball special. If you know good Italian, you know by texture and taste when a meatball is made in house and when it's made in a factory,, these meatballs were not homemade. Probably supplied frozen from a restaurant supply house. This was one of our favorite Bridgeport restaurants, but hey, if an Italian place can't make a good meatball , that's enough said for me. I had dinner here before a concert. A family friend suggested it. The restaurant is nice and the service was good. Sadly the food was not enjoyable. We ordered a few things and shared. I'm usually not a fan of mushrooms but the stuffed mushrooms were good. The filling was flavorful. The eggplant rollintini and coconut shrimp were okay, nothing special. The spicy steak was good. It had a little spice but not overpowering. The sauce served with it was not good, I don't think it compliments the steak. The Mozzarella was horrible. No one could eat it. I think the food here lacks flavor. I personally wouldn't return. But the important thing is we had a good night together. read more

This is an amazing restaurant, you might not expect to find one like in in Bridgeport - CT, but it's definitely one of America's best restaurants, and it is definitely there in Bridgeport. Both Ralph and Rich are tremendous restaurant proprietors. Ralph is a truly gifted and accomplished chef - top, top category - and he also has the remarkable quality of really caring what you think of the dishes he prepares. How do we know ? Because he comes out and asks, and socializes with the guests a little bit too. I think this is a way great chefs retain their standing as great chefs - they always want to make their creations even better, and not all chefs are like that. Rich is the "front of the house" partner, and imparts an atmosphere of genuine welcoming, and I think he is the glue that keeps all the necessary parts of the restaurant joined together, especially the front-of-the-house, so that the whole place presents itself literally as a work of art, and keeps itself moving forward as a commercial establishment, and culinary institution both at the same time. Also, an intangible small or maybe not so small point. Both Ralph and Rich - make sure that not only are disabled people tolerated at the restaurant - they are welcomed by management (both Ralph and Rich contribute to this unique intangible quality of the place) to a point where disabled guests KNOW they are welcomed, and that is rare in a restaurant, or anywhere for that matter. Warmly and fully welcomed, but without an undue fuss. They are special people, and it is a special restaurant. Literally one of America's best, and not a moonshot place price-wise. I think they pass along some of the cost benefit of being in Bridgeport to the guests. In total, probably the best restaurant we've ever visited, definitely one of the best ---- although there have been some other special ones. Ralph 'n Rich's is one of the best of the best. Super disappointed because we were trying to enjoy a nice saturday out. the filet mignon was ordered as medium, just pink inside. it came out completely rare. I sent it back, they waitress returned a minute later, and I swear it was never put in the oven. It was still rare. I gave it to my husband and left hungry. My server said, "was it ok"? I visited again with colleagues for a holiday lunch. The dining area is very nice and was tastefully decorated for the holiday season. We were instantly given water and our glasses never went empty from start to finish. Our waiter was friendly and efficient. I ordered the chicken Marsala with whipped potatoes and mixed veggies. The portion size was generous (I took half home) and the chicken was moist and flavorful. The potatoes and mixed veggies were also tasty and went well with the dish. The price was very reasonable at $15.00. My colleagues ordered the swordfish lunch special, the polenta dish, gorgonzola salad and coconut shrimp. Everyone very much enjoyed their meals and left satisfied. The bread was fresh and the accompanying softened butter was excellent. All in all a very nice meal. While there is a huge parking lot, you now have to enter your license plate into a touch screen when entering the restaurant which is definitely an inconvenience if you do not know your plate by heart and have to go back to the parking lot to get it. read more

Amazing prime rib ; a reminder of my childhood days at my grandmas house in New Haven. Nothing fancy just salty buttery goodness all In the right spots. New-York-Italian style food. The food was very good, and the service was excellent (some one came to the table every few minutes to check on water, etc.) Food came out reasonably fast. Prices were reasonable. Ambiance for the outdoor patio was pleasant (note: it's "downtown" so expect typical city noises in the background, as part of the "atmosphere"). Also, they offer free extended parking if you ask (but, ask BEFORE you are seated!) In summary: good NYC style Italian food at good prices; good service in a nice atmosphere. What's not to love? Huge disappointment. I had a previous dining experience here with my company which was extremely delicious and the service was impressive. However, this past weekend that was not the case. It was good, but not worth it. Here is why: 1. There was a dead fly on the side of our table next to the window. 2. The Service: even though the dining area was not full, the waitress was not attentive and we had to wait forever for our drinks. She was also not helpful in answering questions or providing information about the dishes. The waitress waited for about 40 mts to tell us that the chicken required at least 30 mts. to cook. So we had quite a wait. 3. The food: We ordered half a chicken (tasted good but when you see the picture it looks more like a thigh and a leg). We actually laughed about it. I ordered lemon chicken piccata and traditionally at other restaurants it is paired with pasta and the sauce from the chicken. I requested pasta and they brought me a plate with marinara sauce and the chef didn't even bother removing the water from the pasta. It seemed like soup, something I'd expect from a cheap buffet, not from Ralph and Rich's(see the pic). When I mentioned about the sauce and the water, the waitress said: "Well, the chef would have to make a new sauce." At looked at me like it would be a bother. BUT it wasn't all bad. The coffee was delicious, and the dessert as well. I would consider this place good for a casual meetup, coffee and drinks. Per the food, it is not great. read more
