Seriously one of the best Turkish restaurants I've tried. Everything we ordered was so fresh and full of flavor, and you can tell they actually care about the quality of the food. The kebob was cooked perfectly, the bread was fresh, and every bite was amazing. The staff were super nice and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. It's a little pricey for sure... beyond that it's a really well decorated, Lots of options in the menu. It was very busy tonight and you could tell the staff was at a higher pace than normal. Our server was polite and professional, helpful w explaining dishes. This is not a package or microwave type place. The food is authentic and if your a Turkish food fan then this will be a treat. Fresh bread cooked on premises. The flat bread w cheese and added the egg was delicious. The cold app Med tour was delicious and we added the garden eggplant and that was a table favorite. The lamb was tasty but I'm not a big fan of chops, usually too dry. I'd like to see them do a rack of lamb instead but still the chops were good. The chicken Kebob was tender and well seasoned. The Turkish coffee is strong... the desserts all have a Mediterranean twist, even though it says tres leche or tiramisu Expect nuts and pistachio powder sprinkled about. We've been trying to come here for a few weeks but have never quite been able to make it happen, which was okay because based on some of the early reviews, it seemed like the place had potential but needed to find its way. Fast forward and today we had a clear calendar so we thought we'd give it a shot. Walking in, you'll be struck by the lovely design. The decor is really appealing and fresh and the music was good. The vibe started very nicely, but diminished considerably as the meal progressed. We had a reservation so we were seated quickly and the place was very full. One thing I noticed was that they had a lot of staff on the floor, which I thought would bode well but it didn't. There were a lot of people but the service was not very coordinated...more on that later. We wanted to try a variety of things so we had a meze sampler (eggplant and hummus were the standouts, both very good), some cheese wrapped in phyllo (pretty good but would have been better if more crispy), beyti (excellent!) and lahmacun (very good). Across the board, the food was solid, but the service was just kind of spotty. For example, we had our first course but still nothing to drink. We had tiny plates for the dips but when the mains came that we were sharing, it was a challenge to get clean, larger plates. The thing that was a real atmosphere killer was how the service was being directed. There was one guy whose role just seemed to be to yell at everyone. It was just uncomfortable to be sitting there while someone is getting spoken down to. If there are service problems, I get they should be addressed but do it in the kitchen, not in front of the customers. It was such a mood killer, we just boxed up our remaining food just so we could get out....I was getting second hand angst just being there and I felt bad for all the staff who seemed very nice but just not effectively managed. Dinner should not make you feel that stressed. As others mention, it's BYOB so if you want some wine or something, you need to bring it. That wasn't so important to me as I'm fine with soft drinks and I was able to get tap water, which some previous reviewers mentioned was not an option. Anyway, the food is really good here and maybe if the restaurant is not so busy, the service is more refined. I'll keep an eye on reviews to see if those kinks get worked out because if the service game was improved, this would definitely be a must-visit place. Went apprehensively to Blue Fig last Thursday. My wife and daughter had gone opening week and they felt that although the food was good the service was sub-par. I guess that's why you let restaurants find their sea legs and always give them another shot. Not only was the service spot on but the food was as authentic and well prepared as I had hoped for. Also a shout out on the redo from the previous space. Beautifully redone. My only slight negative is the white ring chandeliers throw off more light than needed and slightly dimmed would bring a different more sexy vibe into the restaurant especially at night. Also not nuts about the plastic greenery hanging down, cheapened it up a bit because unfortunately you could see they spent some good money on the decor. Stuffed grape leaves were absolutely hand made and perfectly spiced. The garden eggplant cold appetizer and accompanying fresh hot pitas were also delicious. For dinner I had the Fig Garden salad, nicely dressed and good attention to the small details. My wife had the Beef Kabobs, perfectly cooked, good spice level and the side miniature purple and white potatoes with asparagus were delicious. The hit of the meal however was the rice pudding for dessert. Recommended by our server it is served crème brûlée style but in a deeper dish. The torched top gave the vanilla a more complex slightly deeper flavor than traditional rice pudding. Just super. Prices are more than fair and being a BYOB restaurant is always an added plus. All in all so glad we retried the Blue Fig, we will be back again....soon. read more

We've been curious about Blue Fig Garden since they opened, so my husband, mother, and I came for dinner on a Wednesday night. It took a little bit to get water, and I was surprised that they bring over bottles rather than tap. They did apologize several times for service delays as they said it was busy. Ultimately, all of the food we had was delicious. Perfectly cooked meats, and I really loved the tzatziki and the fig and feta flatbread. Fun glasses for the juice drinks too. If they can nail down the service this will be a great spot! read more

The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful inside, creating a welcoming and elegant dining experience. Every dish was presented beautifully and tasted just as good as it looked. I tried the mixed appetizers, Fig Garden Salad, Blue Big Signature Dish (the kabob platter), and the lahmacun! It is a great new addition to Southbury, and I hope to see it continue to grow. Good day Yelpers! I used OpenTable to make the reservation which I love doing. This evening we sampled the fare at the Blue Fig Garden in Southbury, CT. The facility itself is Turkish and "BYOB". The Fig is nestled in a shopping plaza, in an upper scaled area. Upon entering the establishment we were "greeted" by a very un-entertained looking young lady, not much personality or welcoming attitude there, but I digress. (.5) We were led to our table in the spacious and tastefully decorated facility. Walking by everyone's tables I glanced in to see how their foods looked and I got even hungrier. Upon being seated, we waited roughly 10 minutes with plenty of staff walking by without saying a word before I made uncomfortable eye contact with who I assumed was the owner, when he finally came over and asked if we'd been helped yet. (Strike-1.5). As the owner started walking away to get someone to help and waiter finally approached and asked what type of water we wanted, sparkling or flat. No introduction or nothing.. ok...... (.5) I was unaware that it was byob and asked for a wine menu... luckily there's a package store nearby. I returned from my walk with a bottle of wine and was given a cup for my wine. Not a deal breaker, but also not very classy. We ordered a tasty dip platter with all the hummus and tzatziki we wanted. Points for presentation and flavor, which made up for the lack luster attitudes we'd received thus far. To be quite honest I was ready to leave because of the wait time on the initial contact. The rooms humidity wasn't much different than outside, which by the way was pretty uncomfortable. Maybe the A/C was broken, idk. There was an abundance of fruit flies all around which was not cool at all. Anywho, the meals came out, I had ordered a meat platter that was just perfect. The meats were tender and flavorful. "Thank God"! I finally asked the waiter what his name was well into the meal. Kadir my friend, you work for tips. Time to level up my guy. You're saving Grace was that the food was top tier. I really love Turkish, Mediterranean food and I will give the fig another chance but y'all need some fine tuning on the customer service side. I've been to Sultans many times and If I had to choose a Turkish spot to go to, I'd probably choose them based on the customer service, and I really don't like Waterbury. Decor & seating were very nice open style - comfy and stylish. The service was ok , NOT great ! The food needs help ! The food falls flat ! No pun intended - for 3 hummus your given 9 tortilla chips that were burned and tasted bad, even tho waiter said they're freshly made and seasoned. The fresh made pitas were good , but plain , no flavor, no seasoning no flavor, just warm & fresh. The flatbread pizza was very good very flavorful! We asked for a side of olives thinking they'd be great and were given 5 black canned olives in oil ! I ordered a strawberry lemonade and received a glass of concentrate lemon juice - beyond consumable ! I had to ask for water, and stated I can't drink it. Staff ignored smiles and walked away. When we got no call, I called to ask if they had our reservation. They told us that because they were overbooked our online reservation did not go through. We were able to be accommodated, yet we were seated right next to the restrooms. When our server came over, she told us they may be able to move us but we never moved. I also had to re-explain the reservation situation again because she was telling me a different story than what happened. In comparison to other reviews, our service was rather attentive which I appreciate. We started with the cheese phyllo rolls which were probably the best things. I had the stuffed grape leaves which were weirdly cinnamon flavored but good with tzatziki. The falafels had good flavor, but came with a weirdly nutty sauce. My sister got the beef kabobs which were disgustingly dry & inedible which we had to return. We asked for sides of mayo and had to ask like 3 times. Presentation is nice. Both mine and my husbands' napkins had dried food particles on them (utensils rolled in napkin). I kindly asked for replacements and we were brought a stack of paper napkins. The hummus trio, including a hummus of avocado, looked exposed to air (grayish hue on a portion of the hummus). The hummus trio was served with approximately 8 triangle -shaped 'chips', not nearly enough for approximately 6 oz. hummus. My husband asked for more, never came. Alcohol is not served. Chicken wrap my husband ordered came wrapped in tin foil, like cafeteria style. My husband grew tired from chewing the chicken, as it was tough like jerky. I ordered cheese-stuffed falafel as an appetizer. It arrived after my entree salad. My salad was a beet salad with goat cheese and was 80% arugula, accented with beets and goat cheese, as well as pistachios. Cheese stuffed falafel tasted ok, however there was only one tiny 'chunk' of cheese in each, like 1 cubic centimeter. It was barely detectable. I'm just getting more and more irate that I had to pay for water lol. I'll nail them with a bad yelp review now too. How in the world can you be in the restaurant industry and are willing to accept the barrage of negative reviews bringing your overall rating down and do nothing about it?! This is such an easy thing to fix. Clearly they have drinkable water in the kitchen or they would not be able to cook. This is just a horrendous management decision. Will not be back until this is fixed. Also their idea of how to serve a 2 pound hummus platter is wild (nothing to dip in it, besides a tiny plate of 4 pita triangles that came out beforehand with olive oil). We had reservations for a party of 8, but when 10 showed up, the staff sprung into action and added another deuce table... (On a Saturday night!) Great service, excellent food. A wide variety of hummus and dips for the pita. Not sure what every dip was, but all amazing!! Butter-soft lamb chops, excellent kebabs. It's a BYOB with (apparently) no corkage fees. Let's start with the one positive, The Restaurant is beautiful, vast, spacious, and extremely comfortable. The chairs, booth are really pleasing and offer a lot of comfort and a sense of privacy. There's ample room between tables, that you don't feel like you're squeezed in. The waiter came pretty quick to our table and that's about where all the positive aspects end-his first greeting to us was: what would you like to drink bottled water, sparkling water, or anything else but we don't have tapwater. Who does not serve tapwater? Is that even legal-am I in Mexico? Ok, let's move on because it actually does get worse So, unto the order-We ordered babaghanoush as an appetizer the Greek salad with chicken as a main course and the lamb kebabs with vegetable and rice. The best part of the entire meal was the bread... The bread is homemade, soft, chewy, but great flavor and texture. The babaghanoush was probably one of the worst ones I've ever had no smoky flavor to it, No taste to it other then cumin and extremely bland. The salad was simply disgusting, the tomatoes were not even close to being ripped as a matter of fact, they were pale and color and hard in texture. The feta cheese was extremely salty and it was excessive of green peppers(by the way what Greek salad has green peppers in it? Peppero pepperoncini, yes but unfortunately it was not that!and the dressing had no flavor whatsoever-it was more like a garden salad with feta cheese, and a lame dressing As for the kebab, no taste other than gaminess. The rice was probably the worst rice I've ever had. The vegetables had no flavor. I don't understand how food can be this bad and yet this expensive. This place is not cheap!! It cost $75 and was absolute garbage and to boot the service was even worse! The waiter never ever came to check on us and see how our meal fared with us. I had to get up, go to the register, and inquire about my bill and I was told he'd be right with us, five minutes later he still didn't come to give us our bill... I had to stop another waiter with a little bit of a temper and ask for my bill immediately. I will never come back to this place again because nothing here was worth it. It's beautiful and that's where it ends. generally I believe in second chances, but clearly there's no second chance to be given to this place, not even a free meal! I can't say about the ambiance because we got it for pickup. The service was ok in that they forgot the tzatziki sauce for the gyros and the one I got was watery without much taste. They also forgot a $20 flatbread and we had to drive back for because they couldn't issue credit by phone??? On the other hand my friend ordered hummus and loved it. The falafel was very tasty and seasoned well. I had the suvlaki kebab that was good but not quite enough for the price. I would try it again but double check the order before I left. read more

The presentation was nice, but the food just wasn't good. The adanna kebab was rubbery and cold. Definitely not fresh and probably microwaved. The chicken kebab was not cooked through and weirdly soft. The tea was hot but had a weird flavor. The entrée is supposed to come with a free side such as rice or grilled veg but comes with grilled veg anyway. So instead of rice I ordered a side of grilled veg but it only came with the standard serving so I just didn't get a side I guess. I also didn't like how they overcharge and nickel and dime their customers. They took my daughter to select a dessert. I was expecting to see a menu with pricing but she came back having ordered something that was suggested to her and it turned out to be a stale slice of something that looks like baklava for $15. I checked the menu later and I did not see any dessert for $15. I just feel like they took advantage of her for an extra five dollars . The ambiance is lovely - very relaxing and spacious. The bread with dipping oil delicious and fresh. The service is subpar. We had to ask for water even though there were water glasses on the table. No tap water option - I consider that a money grab - one that can be easily fixed by offering free tap water. My salad with an add on of falafel was good but very small for the price. My friends mashed potatoes were cold; they were replaced with hot ones. The chicken was chewy. We had to go up to the counter to ask for our check. Diner food and service at restaurant prices. Grain of salt here - it's only been open for a few weeks, but.....charging $6 for water is ridiculous. We asked for tap water and were told "we don't serve that" - $6 bottled water or nothing. Food was good, however they "lost" 2 of 3 orders for our table. It took multiple asks of the waiter and manager to finally get our orders over an hour after the first entree came out. The Mediterranean Tour appetizer was really good, as was the salmon entree. The beef kabob was nice cubes of beef, cooked well, but nothing special. As a make up for the lost entrees we were given free dessert, which were all tasty, but we were asked to walk to the counter to peruse the offerings and choose what we wanted. Weird and to make it weirder, when you want to look at the left end of the dessert case, you are leaning over a table of diners - it was a strange experience. Overall, I am on the fence about going back due to the very strange vibe, however, it was their first 3 weeks or so of operation so we may give it another chance in a few months. read more

Having eaten here for lunch two times, the food is excellent! The service, however, is extremely lacking. Lots of staff standing around not doing anything, looking at phones, and generally socializing. The hostess, both times we've eaten here, seems to have an attitude that she can't be bothered. Overall, this place has been open long enough that their service issues should have been resolved. It's uncomfortable as a guest when you are made to feel like you are bothering the wait staff to do their jobs, interrupting their scrolling or general socializing with their co-workers. The management needs to seriously do some training with their staff on how to do their jobs correctly. Will I go back? The food IS delicious! Maybe it's a take-out place only until they fix their service problems. Also, upon reading the other reviews, I find it so interesting there are several 5-star reviews with similar, generic descriptions while there are even more 3-star or less reviews that are unique and helpful. I do suspect they are "priming" their Yelp rating with fake reviews. Oh, and this last time I was there just a week ago, we were provided tepid tap water in a small glass upon being seated - so it looks like they may have taken all the comments about being forced to pay for bottled water seriously. We wanted so badly to like this place but no amount of positive thinking could fix our experience. The food was vastly under-seasoned and undercooked but the prices were exorbitant for what we received and the hostess was miserable. We arrived a party of 3 (1adult, 1 high schooler, 1 middle schooler.). The hostess seemed annoyed we were there without a reservation (although there were plenty of open tables at 6:30 on a Sunday night.) Our server was friendly and pleasant. As expected she offered us water for the table. We said "yes" and she followed up with, "still or sparkling." We chose "still." She never mentioned they charge $6 for water! I found out when I went to pay the hefty bill at the end of the meal. We ordered the fried calamari and tzatziki for appetizers. The calamari was pale, unseasoned and slimy. The tzatziki came just as a sauce in a bowl- nothing to dip into it- no veggies, just sauce in a bowl. We told the server about the calamari and she apologized and said she would let the cooks know, but she did not remove it from the table. It just sat there uneaten. For our meals we ordered the beef kebab, chicken kebab, and tabouli salad with shrimp. The veggies that came with the kebabs were undercooked and too hard to eat (not raw- just undercooked as in potatoes that are soft on the outside, hard in the middle.) The beef was good. The chicken was unseasoned and bland. The tabouli salad was tasteless. I don't think there was any dressing or seasoning on any of it. They charge $10 extra for 4 very small, unseasoned shrimp. The entire meal was lackluster. In addition to the above, we ordered 2 ice teas. The bill came to $150!!!!! They still charged us $17 for the uneaten, slimy calamari that we told them we could not eat. This was a very disappointing and expensive experience. read more

I decided to give Blue Fig a chance, since it's been open about a month and I had the time. I was seated promptly by a friendly hostess. I was the only customer in the restaurant aside from one couple by the front window who had clearly already finished eating and were just chatting. After being seated, I sat for 5-10 minutes without anyone approaching, despite at least two servers and someone working behind the counter being visible the whole time. Bread and olive oil eventually arrived, which was fine. But from there, things stalled again -- it was at least 15 more minutes before anyone returned, and I had to ask for water myself when a server finally came by. I used the wait to decide on an appetizer, the roasted mushrooms. Another 20 minutes or so passed. No new customers had come in, and the one couple in the restaurant was getting ready to leave. I had to make a point of catching the waiter's attention before he seemed to register I was still there. Around that same time, two or three more parties -- all older couples -- arrived and were seated and greeted promptly. It was roughly another 15 minutes before my order was actually taken. What happened next was the most frustrating part. A couple seated next to me, who arrived well after I did, had their order taken around the same time as mine -- and yet by the time my appetizer finally reached the table, they'd already been served a full course (a separate rice dish) and were well into it. Shortly after I finished my appetizer, they were served a second course: two full, beautifully presented entrées. So in the time it took staff to bring me a single $15 appetizer and then check on me again, the table next to me had been served two full courses. I decided not to order a main course -- the mushrooms were fine, but clearly not a priority for the kitchen or the staff. When I was done, the waiter passed my table several times before asking if I wanted the check. After I handed over my card, it took another 5-6 minutes to get it back, despite the restaurant having fewer than 10 customers total and multiple staff on the floor. I was there over an hour, most of it spent waiting. I don't know whether I was intentionally deprioritized, but the difference in how quickly nearby tables were served was hard to ignore. The food itself was mediocre. Overall, it was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. If I had gone to a McDonald's in the worst part of Danbury, I would have had excellent service by comparison. read more

We were the only people in the restaurant (6 of us) at the time and then another couple of people came in later, so it wasn't crowded. There were 3 young people - 2 male servers and 1 female hostess - who were glued to their phones. The waiter didn't check on us to see how our meals were. We had to wave down the hostess to get more water and condiments. We also had wave someone down to get the bill. Really poor service which is disappointing because the food was very good. read more

I was excited to visit this restaurant but was terribly disappointed. True, the ambiance and decor are lovely, but the service is subpar and inattentive and the food is expensive. You have to pay for water--one of the first things the waiter said to us was they didn't offer tap water and we had to buy a bottle if we wanted water. Seriously? My salad was very good but the falafel was very dry and lacking in taste. Isn't that a Middle Eastern specialty? The waiter asked if we wanted everything at the same time and we said yes but he brought the flatbread way before the hummus. We finished our cold mix app and sat with the plates in front of us for an hour and a half. Finally our dinners came out and I was told at that moment that they don't have my liver entree, WTH??? Why didn't you tell me this after I placed the order but you wait a hour and a half when you bring the rest of the entrees ??? I could have ordered something else right away. Really disappointing first experience. Food was ordered at 11:30 for a 12:50 pickup. Food didn't come out until 1:20. Bag was missing an item. Then they had to make it from scratch. Missed my entire lunch break waiting. They knew I was not happy and still unwilling to even discount the item they forgot. Not a great way to introduce your new business to the community.
