    Special order sushi boat

I love Oyama! The food is awesome and the restaurant is very nice and clean. Friendly staff and I like watching them make and slice the sushi. For my birthday I decided to order a lot of sushi for my sushi party. I bought a few sushi boats and had Oyama fill them up with some of my favorite rolls, nigiri and sashimi! Turned out awesome. Fish is fresh and they have real wasabi too. The dishes I like the best is Hamachi Kama and their California Crunch roll. The salmon, hokkaido scallop, toro, and ebi sashimi/nigiri are my must haves. They also have really great uni that is savory and sweet! I like to bring friends here whenever I get the chance or order on doordash when I'm lazy haha!

Mike was our server and 100% amazing--we love coming here and him greeting us and making us feel like family. As usual, we order Lion King, Jalapeño Jumper, sake nigiri, hamachi nigiri, maguro nigiri, cherry blossom, under the sea, edamame, tempura, etc.... Oh and the large hot sake--like a few of those please. Everything so good! We always love Mike and his amazing and friendly service, the hello and good bye and sweet care he gives us. We will always come back as we love this spot--best in Lafayette. Highly recommended!

Haven't been here in a while so figured I'd give this place a review. First off, beware coming here on a Friday night. It gets crazy. And I mean, crazy. Limited parking poses an issue in the first place. Then, because there's one door and one walkway, there were so many people the staff couldn't tell who was waiting for a table and who was waiting for a take out order. So it took us quite a while before staff figured out my bf and I were waiting on a table. No one to greet, no one to ask. And staff was running around dealing with customers who were already seated. Hence the -1 star. Something should be done about the efficiency of trying to sort sit in customers versus take out. That said, once we got seated, service was quick to ask what we wanted and given it had taken awhile for us to get a seat in the first place, we put our order in fairly quickly. Kitchen staff works fast so we got our orders one after another in a fairly streamline manner. I ordered the edamame for appetizer, and then the rainbow roll and lion king roll while my bf ordered the Godzilla roll and the 49ers roll. Their rainbow roll and lion king roll are really good. I think the lion king uses some cream sauce similar to Alfredo sauce so it has a fairly strong garlic taste to it. Not that I'm complaining. Fair warning on Godzilla, it basically is straight sriracha on top so it's spicy so I didn't bother trying it since my bf said it was spicy. The 49ers roll was good...although I'm not sure how I feel about the lemon on top. I know this roll is served at other restaurants but given I'm not one for straight lemon, I'm not sure if it's really needed on top. Or whether lemon juice would suffice. That said, edamame was good since I haven't had it in awhile but I suppose it's nothing special. Just fun to eat. All in all, I'd come back...just probably not on a Friday night.

i really like this place for when i am in the area! the spicy mamacita roll is my favorite and the food is fresh. the service sometimes can be questionable because w had an awkward experience with one man who pointed out how big my friend's ears are. gave us a good laugh but did recognize the weirdness

This place is the best! We love it. We love the misou soup and edamame and sea weed salad. The people are the best because they made all the food for us. Sushi is fresh and yummy. You have to try this place.

I ordered delivery from Oyama Sushi over the weekend and was very happy with their sushi. I had gotten their Rainbow Roll and Rock and Roll. They were so good!

    Chirashi Don

I went on a Tuesday around noon, and the restaurant was not very busy at all. Only two other patrons were there. The staff outnumbered the customers, and they were talking/arguing very loudly with one another. The ambiance was sterile and casual. Everything was clean lots of natural lighting though. My server was very attentive and got my food out quickly. Miso soup comes with most entree options on the menu. When I got mine, it was lukewarm and had only a few pieces of tofu, which had a strange melt-in-your-mouth texture. The flavor was lacking the umami flavor all miso soups must have, only being a bit salty but no other depth. I know that it's the default soup of this restaurant, but I wish they had put more effort into it... I ordered the chirashi don (pictured). I only enjoyed 3/5 of the proteins provided by the chef. The tuna and salmon were soft, thick, and fresh-tasting. The mackerel/saba(?) was very tough/almost crunchy, and it feels like they gave me a weird cut and tried to cover it up in the presentation. I couldn't even bite through the huge piece, and there was a large red bit that went down the side. The shrimp was tasty (idk how you can mess up shrimp), but they only gave one that was butterflied. The sweet egg was okay, just not my personal preference. Overall, there are higher quality, tastier places to go to in the area for this price point.

So delicious! We devoured everything! I will definitely be eating here again. We ate the Lafayette roll, spider roll, fire star roll, 49ers roll and spider roll. My only suggestion is to switch to compostable take out containers please! It's better for the environment.

Ordered delivery through DoorDash tonight and even though it came a little late (not the restaurant's fault), the food saved the day because it was really good! It was my first time trying their sushi and I'd definitely order again. The fish was fresh and buttery soft. I thought the portion size was great. They made sure everything was there for me like the sauces, lemon slices, utensils, etc. I'm happy to support these local restaurants that are working to keep us fed. Thank you Oyama!

This is a little gem of a restaurant with a cute interior dining area with television for people watching the FIFA games, a good bar selection of you imbibe, and a delightful patio where you can sit under a covered awning. The place has a small parking lot along the side of the restaurant located in the back. If you're shopping at Whole Foods or Mount Diablo Foods, this restaurant is located down the street from them on a side street on Lafayette Circle. I spoke to the owner, they only use the best quality sushi: Atlantic King salmon, bluefin tuna, the shrimp is cooked here, white tuna is from Korea, the onso hamachi is from Hokkaido. The onagi is high end, and ordered from Thailand. There are two other Kiku Sushi & Vegetarian locations, one is located in north Berkeley, 1416 Gilman Street, Berkeley, CA, and one is located at 538 Valencia Street, San Francisco. The food is absolutely delicious, nicely presented, and the sashimi is cut into very thick slices. I ordered my favorite go-to dish, chirashi sushi, and a specially ordered eel handroll with rice and veggies. The matcha tempura ice cream was delicious, too. You must absolutely come and try out this place, they play relaxing, nice jazz music in the background, it was good for a very nice before-the-250th-anniversary of our country, the 4th of July! Check out this place, you surely won't be disappointed!

Tucked away in Walnut Creek, this is the perfect intimate, casual sushi spot for a relaxed date night or dinner with friends. The welcoming atmosphere, attentive service, and fresh ingredients made for an outstanding dining experience. We started with the shrimp and vegetable tempura, which arrived hot, crispy, and perfectly light without feeling greasy. It was the ideal appetizer to share. For our rolls, we ordered the Volcano Roll, featuring spicy tuna and shrimp tempura, and the Arizona Roll, made with crab and topped with seared albacore. Both were beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The freshness of the fish was the star of the meal. The seared albacore on the Arizona Roll practically melted in your mouth, and every bite had a clean, fresh taste that showcased the quality of the ingredients. The Volcano Roll delivered a delicious combination of textures and flavors, with just the right amount of spice and crunch. Nothing was overpowering--you could truly taste the freshness of the fish and the care that went into each roll. The restaurant was spotless, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming throughout our visit. Service was prompt without feeling rushed, allowing us to enjoy the meal at a comfortable pace. Fresh fish, crispy tempura, creative rolls, and exceptional hospitality make this a standout sushi destination in Walnut Creek. The only downside? Once you finish your last piece, you'll wish you had ordered more. We enjoyed our experience so much that we're already looking forward to coming back to try the omakase, which will definitely be on our next order.

Delicious, and the best thing on our table. First visit for us at Toyosu, over on Locust in Walnut Creek right next to Matsu. The sushi menu runs deep, from straightforward nigiri up to omakase and A5 wagyu, and the quality was very good across everything we ordered. Long sake list too, plus beer and wine by the glass or bottle. Plan around the size of the room. Small place. If you want to sit down without waiting, be there when they open, otherwise expect around 30 minutes. Parking is paid street parking with a big garage nearby, so you won't circle for long. Service was the standout. Nothing was open inside when we arrived, so we took the covered patio out front, and they asked whether we'd want to move indoors if a table opened. We said yes and ordered. A spot freed up after our first round and they came straight over and moved us. Doing that on a full night, unprompted, is not nothing. Noise was better than I expected. The room fills up, but we talked normally the whole meal. Ask for the soy paper wrap. Not printed anywhere on the menu, but clearly an option, and a good change if you're tired of nori.
