We were seated quickly. You're given a choice of inside or out. We chose inside. The decor is very Caribbean vibe and artsy. Our server arrived and gave us daily specials. I opted for the tropical salad with jerk chicken. The salad was crisp, fresh and perfectly dressed. The chicken was warm, spicy deliciousness. My husband had the chicken tacos. I cannot express how much I love this place. This place exudes a positive vibes as soon as you walk in. All the staff I've interacted with here are wonderful. Also kudos to the owner. I've seen him in the kitchen cookin' up some delicious food to working the front of the house bussing tables. To me, that shows me that he truly loves his restaurant and cares that things, on all levels, are done well. My most recent visit was a little special because they started doing dinner experiences with local wineries (check out their social media because looks like they're going to continue doing this). We were seated right away when we arrived around 6:15 pm on a weds night. I got the paella oyo and the husband got the jerk chicken. I loved the jerk chicken. It was perfectly marinated and the right amount of spice! So juicy! The paella was a little on the small side and didn't have as much of the crunch on the underside of the rice. It was still good and it keeps well for leftovers. The jerk chicken doesn't keep well and gets dry so I recommend eating it all at once if you can! Found this place on Yelp since we were in the area. Right when we walked in, it felt like we were at a restaurant in South America/Caribbean. Their decor was very festive and colorful. We didn't make a reservation and was immediately seated since it was way past lunchtime (around 3pm). I was excited to try their jerk chicken and paella since that was all I saw on Yelp. The paella didn't disappoint! The shrimp was every flavorful and very crunchy. The rice itself was very soft. The jerk chicken was alright. I think I should've asked for more sauce. I've eaten at Oyo's about 5 yrs ago and it was great! We don't live in Pleasanton and an event came up in the next town over so we made an effort to return to Oyo's. The food is South American /Guyanese cuisine. The ingredients, spices, herbs are like a flavor explosion in my mouth!! I ordered a braised sea bass dish cooked with coconut milk. The dish also included red bell peppers and spinach(I think) , it's called the Run Down Fish....i don't know why but ohhh my it was wonderful. The hubby ordered a paella type rice dish, I believe It's called Guyanese rice. It included chopped meats in rice with spices and herbs that made it very flavorful. Both dishes are generous in their portions. My issue was with the appetizer. We ordered the fried plantains and I was not a fan. The disks of plantains seemed to be soaked in oil too lond and then they added too much salt at the end. I have had fried plantains at other restaurants, and this was subpar. Will not order that again. Well, the sauce that came with it was very good though Service : excellent the staff was very nice and very attentive. We did come early though so that may be your best option as we were not rushed and they were very attentive. My brother is back in town so we decided to come here for dinner! This is my third time dining here so I already know food and service will be fantastic. Made online reservations for 7:45 pm and once we got there, we got seated right away. It was my first time sitting indoors and I really enjoyed the ambiance and music! I've tried the jerk chicken and oxtail stew before so those two were delicious as always! Oxtail was super tender and fell off the bone. I think out of all the paellas, my favorite is the seafood paella! It came with salmon, shrimp, scallops and mussels. That was sooooo rich and flavorful! The curry goat came with peas and rice (it's spicy!) and it was surprisingly good! I'm not a huge goat person but it was so tender and NOT gamy at all so definitely try it! Unfortunately the skillet bread was just a huge slice of bland, dry bread that was not warm. I thought perhaps maybe they had other reservations which is why we were not seated in the middle of the dining room or even at a slightly larger table. No. We were just seated in the corner. And as the day turned into night, my husband and I sat in the dark. We could barely even read our bill and the waitress didn't even seem to notice how dark it was. There wasn't even a candle to give us light. Food was hit or miss. We ordered: Grilled Octopus Salad - Tasted delicious but the plating was not appealing at all. (See my pic) Tropical Salad - beautiful and lovely. What a great savory salad with many different fruits. Street Food Doubles with chicken - Not my favorite. A lot of flavors on a piece of bread with big chunks of chicken. Seems like the chicken was just thrown on top of dressed shreds of cucumber. Not sure how they went together. This was served along with our 2 salads and by the time we got to eat this dish, it was cold. Oxtail Stew - tender, flavorful and spicy. Really good. Guyanese Cook-up Rice - This dish was cold when it arrived. The rice was hard and dry. The meats were dry. Hard to chew and swallow. Best part on this plate were the plantain slices on the side. I wasn't sure if the dishes are supposed to be family style or individual entrees. Either way, the waitress or servers should ask us or let us know. We told them we were sharing everything yet we were only given appetizer plates. We had to ask for clean plates after our appetizers, then we had to ask for spoons so we can eat the stew and rice properly. The service from our waitress was fine. She was nice and professional but from the servers it wasn't so professional, especially when the server's thumb was in the middle of my appetizer plate as he laid it in front of me.
