What a great steakhouse in Tri Valley! It's an old steakhouse but the flavors and service is 10/10. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is definitely outdated but I think it adds to the experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Different from the newer steakhouses in the area but shows that they have experience. The steaks were nicely and juicy and cooked to perfection!!! Highly highly recommend !!

Went back and we are so glad we did. Walked in on a Saturday and we were seated right away. We ordered drinks and had some bread. The service this time was so much better and our waitress was great she was attentive and nice. I do have to say there are way too many dinner specials after a few she mentioned you just loose track of what they have maybe it's just me. I got the beet salad with the honey balsamic and it was amazing. I would eat that everyday! I had the filet which was cooked perfectly. The Mac and cheese or liquid gold as I call it is always a go to. The asparagus are fine we always change vegetables when we go. Glad we stopped by it was busy but we were able to get a table pretty quick and the service was a lot better than our first time. The drinks are good and price overall is comparable to other steak houses.

Had an amazing experience at this gem. My love surprised me by taking me to this spot on my birthday. I love a good steakhouse and he had been here about 20 years ago. Since it is still open this tells me the place must be a popular gem. I loved the fact that when we got there we got front row parking to the entrance right in downtown. When entering we were greeted right away. He had reservations and we were sat right away. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Now the place is a nice atmosphere but I felt the tables and chairs needed an upgrade.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our waitress was very nice and attentive. She amazed me how she knew all the specials and prices to their meals and appetizers. I noticed the waiters and waitress stand close by in case you need anything so they are always on alert. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bathrooms are close to the seating area and they have a back room for events so the place is pretty big.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Now the food was amazing. We started with the calamari and it was so good. The pieces tasted fresh and were thick pieces of meat. The surf and turf was delicious and the lobster again tasted so good. We matched our food with some delicious wine. I will definitely come back to this spot again. It was a hit.

5 stars for Hap's Original Steaks & Seafood. I've been here before, but I'm finally getting around to writing a review after such a special night with my family. Last night was the first time my wife and I brought our four sons to experience what a true "fancy dinner" feels like, and Hap's absolutely delivered. First and foremost, a massive shoutout to Shelby, our waitress. She was simply incredible. She immediately recognized that our younger boys were a little wide-eyed by the whole experience, and she made the night feel warm, welcoming, and unforgettable. At one point she called our 9-year-old "sir," and his eyes practically popped out of his head. It was such a small thing, but moments like that are what make hospitality special. The food was phenomenal. The prime rib was honestly even better than I remembered -- unbelievably tender, juicy, and flavorful, especially with the au jus. We also got the peppercorn sauce, which was fantastic. The mac and cheese and scalloped potatoes were divine, and even the sautéed spinach was outstanding. My wife and I each had a couple glasses of Cabernet from Paso Robles that paired perfectly with dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Between the incredible food, the old-school New York steakhouse ambiance, and that timeless feeling where you walk in and genuinely don't know if it's 1950, 1980, or 2026 (in the best possible way), this already would've been a memorable night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But the service from Shelby truly made it special. Thank you, Hap's, for giving our boys a night they'll remember for a long time.

Last review was over 9 years ago- just went back to Haps. Matt was our server and was 10/10 stellar service. The attention to detail, attentiveness, helpful, and knowledgeable bout the history of the place as well as the menu! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance has not changed. Clean, old money feel. Moody lighting, old school decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] FOOD! The food. Wagyu beef amazing! Foie gras TENDER, delicious. Center cut filet mignon little tough cut but amazing chew and flavor. Ribeye- huge and delicious. Season veggies are delicious. I like simple. Don't complicate green beans. Not over cooked, not undercooked. Perfect. MAC AND CHEESE- is unbeatable. No one comes close, hands down the BEST SIDE!!! Cheese cake is perfect. Chocolate cake is delectable without being over sweet. Drinks- Old fashioned tasted like straight whiskey, but who minds if it's good whiskey. Haps 79 (I think is the name) not too sweet and YUMMMM! It's held up. It never disappoints.

We had our wedding rehearsal dinner here a couple weeks back and had an amazing time! Staff was very efficient in dealing with such a large group (21 people), taking orders, getting appetizers distributed, accounting for several different allergies/dietary restrictions, and more. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They also put us at a large table in the back so it was relatively more private and comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I really appreciate the effort they put into setting up for us! For the food, almost everyone ended up ordering the signature prime rib for the main course, and we split several different appetizers (calamari, cocktail shrimp, scallops which was the special appetizer of the day that was not on the menu, and more that individuals might have ordered). Appetizers were all solid, with the standout definitely being the scallops! So if those are on the menu when you go, I'd definitely recommend ordering it. The signature prime rib was HUGE but at the same time I think finishable by most people. Everyone was pretty shocked and intimidated when the plates were first put down but I think most of us ended up finishing, even with all the appetizers we ate beforehand. The rib itself was so, so soft and tender, with my only complaint perhaps being that the gravy could have had a bit more flavor--but I may just not be used to eating prime rib as I usually order leaner cuts of steak. I'd also recommend getting the prime rib cooked medium instead of medium rare if you typically prefer medium rare for other cuts (but I think this applies to all prime steaks and not just this restauarant). For dessert, we tried the bread pudding (which was seasonally flavored as a pumpkin spice bread pudding) and the chocolate creme brulée. I was a huge fan of the chocolate creme brulée, and found the bread pudding to be solid but not standout. Overall, I am really glad that we chose this restaurant for our rehearsal dinner! Pleasanton is a ways away from me, but if I'm in the area again I'd probably stop by and try some of their other steak!

At Haps again sitting at the bar with Eric having our usual Sunday dinner. Starting off with the crudites then Grilled artichokes. Both come in a reasonable time and we enjoy without being rushed. Then our main prime rib sandwich and crispy French fries arrive served spot on. Eric our bartender on Sunday evenings is such a pleasure to have serve us. He is Professional and so Personable. No matter how busy it gets he is always aware if you are in the need of something. He is quite the mixologist and has excellent recommendations. It's such a relaxing time sharing good conversation with Eric and Enjoying flavorful offerings from the kitchen. Well Done

No need to go to San Francisco for a great steakhouse. Hap's is much closer with food and service just as good. Traditional, elegant dining room but a more impromptu meal is also available at the bar. Have only eaten in the dining room once, prefer sitting at the bar. Come right at 5 pm opening and have a good chance of snagging a seat there. Love the crudite. Kind of ignore it at other restaurants but here they serve the veggies simply chilled with ranch dressing for dipping. So yummy. I've never raved about plain raw veggies before. Love the Caesar and always ask for anchovies. Steak Diane is a regular order. Juicy steak, luscious sauce. I could go on but for a traditional meat and potatoes or surf and turf, Hap's Original is the place.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]First time at Hap's and I would have to say it is a classy dining experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was well-prepared and flavorful, but what really stood out was the service. In addition to the service, each dish felt thoughtfully prepared, with fresh ingredients and balanced flavors that really stood out.

A-okay spot with a classy dining ambience and stellar customer service. What's disappointing is the overpriced food and drinks. The steaks are well cooked but don't have much flavor, and the sides are pretty disappointing for such an expensive meal, i.e. several pieces of bell pepper and string beans. The saving grace was the prime rib sandwich; plentiful of real steak and au jus. I'm not sure why it's not a staple on the menu, but I would definitely come back for that!

Review #841 Posted on 12.16.24 We came here for our annual company Christmas party this year on Friday night December 13th. Hap's has been around for ages, I ate here once before, but it must've been 20+ years ago. They've got good steaks, & good customer service. One thing over the years I've paid attention to, is if something is still in business years later, it's probably a good establishment. At first the menu was limited as we had a big party, my guess is around 50 people or so. But then it got shortened to around 30, so we were able to order off of the regular menu. We had a private room pretty much, all the way in the back. There was another party there, but much smaller, probably about 10 people. Tricia was our server and honestly was excellent, so were the others helping her out. But Tricia I was impressed by how well she was on top of things for a party of 30, not an easy task. Food was great. Easily one of the best prime ribs I've ever had, it had tons of flavor, was perfect density, tenderness, temperature. Most people don't eat sauces with prime rib, typically just the au jus it comes with, but I got the peppercorn sauce, and gravy sauce and had more than a few bites of my prime rib dipped in those. Sides are huge, so if you go with 4 or less, 2 sides is enough, like spinach & mash, 4 people easily could share those 2. I would dine here again hands down.

Nothing was acknowledged, which is fine, but it does make you wonder why they ask. We started with the calamari, which was actually really good. It had a nice balance of sweet and spicy. The menu has variety, and the rave seems to be their street noodles. I didn't want a full plate of noodles, so I asked our waitress for guidance while deciding between the ribeye and the jambalaya. She pushed the jambalaya hard, saying everyone returns for it and that "you can get a steak anywhere." For me, that's not true -- and it also tells me their steaks are average or worse. I ordered the jambalaya, and it was a disappointment. It looked like Spaghetti-O's, with no visible meat and a heavy tomato sauce mixed directly into the rice. The texture was mushy, and the presentation wasn't appealing. I ended up returning it, something I never do. Although, it does have potential if they would ease up on the tomato sauce and serve it around the rice not mixed in. I asked to switch to the ribeye, but they were already out -- early on a Saturday evening. At that point, it felt like the restaurant really leans on selling street noodles because they're cheap and profitable. The drinks were great, but the food experience missed the mark. After everything, all I could think about was Oasis across the street. I won't be returning.

Plus I've heard about their Happy Hour and unlimited salad and bread. While I didn't go for Happy Hour for this edition, I went for dinner at their Saloon section. I'd recommend that section if you just want to sit down quickly since it's open seating. Jack was our server for this round. My partner and I decided to share the 2lb Sirloin steak with fries and calamari. The partner was hangry, but the salad and sourdough, which is unlimited made him satisfied, until the steak came. It was cooked medium rare and to my standards, so not too raw, but also not overcooked. For a sirloin, it was tender. I didn't need steak sauce. Just went in. Our calamari came later than our steak, and Jack was super apologetic and offered us dessert. We assured him it was ok and I joked that he made it a "surf and turf" now. We didn't finish the calamari since we really took advantage of that salad and sourdough combo. I personally wasn't a fan of the calamari though. Overall, I think the two of us loved the unlimited salad and bread that came with the steak. It definitely made us full. As athletes, we needed to fuel up after our respective sports (him-cycling, me- swimming). The salad was definitely a palette cleanser after the steak. It was reasonably priced, something my partner really liked. We ended up turning down our free dessert because we were very full and we didn't mind the error. We took home the calamari. We walked in with smiles, and we were seated in an excluded area where it felt very intimate. The ambience was dim so I gave it that romantic feel. We were greeted by our server, Kathy. She was all smiles and very detailed about the menu and drinks. We ordered the appetizers, which was the calamari and the prawns and the spring rolls. The drinks came up first which was nice and then our fresh platter which was nicely presented came out. What can I say? It was a burst of flavors all over this platter! Compliments to chef! After we were done eating, our amazing server came back to take our order. She was so kind and polite very detailed. She was interested in what we were celebrating and talking about it which I thought was really unique. We had told her we were there celebrating me finishing school and finishing up the year teaching. Then we went to order our main entrée which was the steak and lobster tail with the mashed potatoes. We also got an order of the asparagus and mac & cheese. When I say the food came out popping hot, it came out hot and ready. Once we were able to dig in, it was some of the best lobster main tail melted in my mouth I have ever had. The steak was cooked perfectly. It was so soft and delightful with the fluffy mashed potatoes. The mac & cheese burst it with flavors one of my favorite mac & cheese yet. I have had mini mac & cheese and this one was incredible! This area was cooked perfectly and it was soft but had a crunch still to it. My hats off for this chef! The chef here can really cook and they have a unique presentation, which is very professional and mind blowing! Then it was time for dessert which we had the blueberry cheesecake and the chocolate lava cake! They were both also yummy and had caramel drizzle, and the chocolate lava cake was oozing with chocolate. We loved every minute of this experience it was such a good way to build a core memory. Kathy was the best server yet. I would highly recommend asking for her when coming to the steakhouse for her service. Also, I would like to give five stars to the chef. This place is truly blessed with an amazing chef. He's probably definitely the backbone of this restaurant. We will definitely come back, and we want to thank Forbes for such a great experience. We couldn't have been more pleased with how our party turned out. I highly recommend Elia if you are looking for an excellent meal or party venue.

Love how open the restaurant is with windows and natural lighting. The food was alright and pretty expensive. We individually ordered, but shared like family style including appetizers. We tried the Saganaki $17.00+ Skillet-fried flaming kefalothiri cheese, brandy, lemon? It was okay. To me, it just tasted like cheese topping from a slice of pizza. It was cool to see it being lit on fire though. I did like the fried calamari, that was delicious especially with the sauce. I ordered the mushroom and spinach omelette $19. It came with potatoes and fruit like watermelon. It was decent, I mean it's an omelette so what can I say, lol. The serving size was perfect to share. Our server was good. The woman who helped us clean our plates and refilled our water was very attentive as well. The bathrooms were clean, two stalls. Parking is available in the back or on the street.
