The roasted red pepper dip was a clear winner and the pitas were fresh and delicious. Rest of the food was super mid. Underseasoned. They were out of the walnut crust for the salmon so it came plain. Updating this review. At first I thought this was a a nice Middle Eastern Restaurant. 3 of us shared the combination platter that had beef, chicken, shrimp and Adana skewers. Had grilled vegetables and fries on the side with an order of tzatziki with pita. Everything was delicious. The service was slow and it took a long time to get the side of fries that came at the end. They charge a 3% surcharge. At the bill I gave 18%, which is good considering 15 is standard and they added the surcharge. They asked for 18 minimum on the check. So later I checked my credit card and they added $3 more than I signed for. That's theft. Luckily my credit card quickly corrected this and I kept a picture of my signature of the bill. This is why I don't like write in bills. It's time for all electronic payments. I'm not ever going back and dealing with people who steal again. It's very expensive and the service was just standard. The review has been pending for a while now. We have been here now for a few times and it's a vibe to go on Friday or weekend night. We have tried mumhmarrah at many places. But they serve it the best. Our kid loves the kids pasta and we definitely like the chicken shashlik kebab platter. It was surprise this time coz we were able to experience the lovely performance which they started in last September. Drinks are also amazing. They are one of the best places serving middle eastern food. Only concern I had was our serve last time was eager to pick up our plates for some reason while we said we were still working on it. I will leave it to the place being noisy due to music and crowd. Definitely worth going as a family / guys night out or girls night out. What an experience! I've been back 3 times and it is such fresh and flavorful food. I can't say it's for everyone because the menu is very different. It is not your standard Mediterranean menu with the same flavors and options. I am telling you the artichoke dip is so unique and my entree of choice is the Adobo Shrimp Pincho!! It is spicy and such a great flavor and delicious juicy shrimp. The only reason you don't see a 5 star is because of the price. $33 for a few shrimp is a steep price. Yes you get amazing staff and the food is that good but affordability has to be in the cards. I'd love to see a special where you get an app and entree or more of a sampler variety cause when you visit you want to try it all!! I'll obviously be back and I recommend it but check the menu first and make sure the options align with what you are looking for. They have unique flavors and food combinations but they will surprise you by how good it is. read more

The food was half as good as the first time we ate here. The spaghetti the kids had were done really well and chewy. I liked that they were long hollow strains of spaghetti. Surprisingly this was one of the best dishes. The salad was mediocre as the flavors were not really Mediterranean and lacked flavor. The dressing is fine and there was salt which was nice but something else is missing. Quinoa seemed undercooked and not flavored well. Roasted garbanzos were not crunchy but tuff and hard and flavorless. The focaccia sides wasn't as buttery and flavorful with spices as before. The drink I ordered was nice but not exceptional, although I liked the rosemary smell / flavor, the drink just wasn't done well. More like a hard soda than a fancy beverage. The small ice cubes made this even more apparent. They were also out of the seafood sauce my wife wanted from her last meal so we had two other dishes and they were not impressive. We had to order multiple additional entrees since the dishes had also gotten much smaller in size compared to 6 months ago. The top it off, service was lacking. Alex at the bar was amazing the last time. We were with our children for Mother's Day today and we sat at the booth and our server wasn't horrible, but just wasn't any good. I know it was busy but she had time to be on her phone instead of providing better service kind of irked me. I wanted to give her some tips during our meal, but I hadn't brought cash with me, so my wife could enjoy her meal better. I made a comment about it being busy and all I got was one dismissive ha - no engagement. Kind of disappointed. Not sure what I was expecting but I guess more of Alex's energy and engagement and caring went a long way the last time and today's was missing. I didn't see Alex today at the bar. Decided to take the family out for dinner during the holiday week. I will admit the vibe seemed off with the staff. Highlights: Go with the shareable items. You get more bang with your buck to order the sampler dips and try everything. Same with the family platter, it was an assortment of meats and a choice of two sides. This is why a star dropped. We got our french fries (good) but the rice didn't arrive until I asked and by then we were finished with most of the platter. On the plus side, the ride was good, with the right amount of flavor. While the food was some of the best we've had in San Ramon, the service and management left a lot to be desired, which is why I'm rating this a 4 instead of a 5. Ambiance & Decor The interior of Alora is stunning. The decor is very tasteful, and the restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating for guests. It has a great vibe for a night out--on paper, it's the perfect place for a celebration. Service & Management (The "Could Be Better") Unfortunately, the hospitality didn't match the beautiful surroundings and quality of food. The hostess was not very accommodating or friendly, and the manager on duty that evening lacked the grace you'd expect at an upscale establishment. There was a mix-up regarding our table, and the management handled it with a very "stiff" attitude--insisting we wait until the specific person who made the reservation arrived before adjusting the table. For a family celebration, you want to feel welcomed from the moment you walk in. I'm hesitant to recommend this for special occasions until the front-of-house team adopts a warmer, more hospitable approach. The Food (A Perfect 5/5) The kitchen is the absolute star here. The food was phenomenal: * Octopus Souvlaki: Hands down the best we've ever had. My fave items here were the lamb lollipops and focaccia! The lamb was juicy and flavorful, perfectly cooked. The potatoes that came with it were also delicious. And we were recommended to get focaccia with the fusilli - for sauce dipping purposes and omg, the focaccia was SO good. It was nice and fluffy on the inside and toasted nice and crispy on the outside. With some sauce--it was perfection! And unfortunately I didn't love the octopus and I usually love the octopus! Tried Alora Social with a large party on a Wednesday evening for dinner. We had a reservation and the table was ready when we arrived. They have indoor and outdoor seating, but it was a hot day so we opted for inside (after being seated outside). Ambiance: inside is very cute with bright pink floral displays and greenery. Service: Out server was fantastic! I didn't catch her name, but she was funny and provided great descriptions and recommendations for our large group. Drinks: I ordered the white sangria, which was refreshing and not sweet. They have a variety of cocktails, mocktails, beer and wine. Food: We started with the appetizer sampler platter that came with a small portion of all of the dips, pita bread, vegetables, dolma, and spanakopita. This was great for our large group and I enjoyed each of the dips. We also ordered the brussel sprouts, which were tasty, and the focaccia bread. For my entree, I ordered the Adana Kebab, which was a house made lamb and keep combo along with rice pilaf and some sautéed peppers. The dish came with a lot of rice pilaf and I would've liked to have more vegetables, but the kebab was great. Everyone seemed to enjoy their dishes. For dessert, we tried the chocolate hazelnut baklava with vanilla ice cream. It came with a chocolate sauce to pour on top. The bill was a bit pricey, but it was a good meal with excellent service and a fun atmosphere. I would've liked definitely return when in the area. Alora Social is a great place for a special occasion dinner. For regular affairs, it seemed a bit pricey. We gathered for a friend's birthday dinner, and ordered a lot. Vodka martini, Ruby and Phoenix, and Alera spritz started us off. It's an expensive cocktail menu. But everything was well done, and I asked the bartender details about the martini she made for me. The wine bottle and Sandeman port prices were reasonable. We had tzatziki dip, falafel, and brussel sprouts for appetizers. So darn good. We had to order extra pita for $6 for the tzatziki, which was a bit annoying. For entrees, we had one shrimp poncho, two walnut salmon, and one ladolemono chicken, and there were no complaints. For dessert, we had cheesecake and baklava, and again, while these were good, the prices were not reasonable. Baklava for $17? On top of all this was a 3% percent surcharge for...I don't know. In SF, they tell you it's for mandated employee benefits. Does San Ramon also have that? I hate to dwell on prices, when the meal was so good. We came here for lunch on Father's Day without a reservation, and had no problem being seated. The restaurant was about 60-70% full. They are located where Chow was. It's nice inside with seating, a bar, and a small market/cafe. There's also a nice patio dining area outside, and today there was live guitar music. We enjoyed our food, and the service was good too. However, it's a bit pricey for casual Mediterranean food. What we ordered: + Kale with green tahini salad with ladolemono chicken - good salad and the ladolemono chicken kebabs were really tender and juicy, but $30 for a lunch salad is a bit much. + Pita pocket with ladolemono chicken - for a side, you get a choice of fries or salad. The salad was crispy and fresh, and the pita pocket was very good. There's a market/coffee cafe inside that's pretty small and not entirely stocked, but there's some drinks, chips, and lunch meats, like salami. I love Mediterranean food. I have been wanting to try Alora especially since I've been to Turkey. The restaurant is beautiful. The decor is elegant yet hipster. It could be a nice place for date night or for a group of friends for girls night out. The music was a bit loud and played a variety of different genres. We asked to move to a different table because ours was wobbly. Food and cocktails came out fast. The only cocktail I wanted to try from the menu was not available. So I ordered a zero-proof drink instead. Our server was polite, nice, and thoughtful. At the end of our meal, we weren't offered to see the dessert menu. We had to ask for one. At the same time, the manager asked us how we were doing. While we were chatting with him, our server came with the dessert menu. She started talking to me at the same time as I was trying to converse with him and it was very awkward. I really wanted to talk to the manager and ask him about the restaurant and the food, but I didn't want to be rude. Our server wanted to tell me that they only had one dessert option because they were out of the rest. By the time that conversation ended, the manager walked away. It's a Friday night. How are they out of ingredients for a cocktail and out of desserts? That was off putting. We ordered: Salted Tangerine: Thoroughly enjoyed this zero proof cocktail. I asked to swap the Sprite for club soda and it was perfect. Not too sweet. Thank you for modifying it for me. Octopus: Beautifully plated. Delicious flavors. The octopus was a tender. The sausage and twice cooked potatoes complimented the dish well, although not all potatoes were cooked enough. A bit undercooked. Izgara Aile Tarzi: This was a sampler of 4 different skewers and a great way to try most of their dishes: Beef Shashlik, Adobo Shrimp Pincho, Adana Kebab, and Ladolemono Chicken Souvlaki. It comes with 2 sides of our choice. We went for the Rice Pilaf and the Local Lettuces and Greens. The beef is Filet Mignon. It was medium to well done and not a lot of flavor. The Toum (garlic dip) made it better. My husband thought the shrimp was the best out of the 4. I'm allergic to shellfish so I was unable to try it. It looked delicious though. I liked the Adana the best. The seasoning was great and had a strong lamb flavor. The chicken was okay. Tender but I feel like it could've been grilled more to get more of a char flavor. The sides were fine. I hope the serving size of the sides are just smaller portions because it came with our dish. Otherwise, I cannot imagine paying $11 for the rice and $15 for the salad. Overall, Alora was hit-or-miss for me. Consistency is key. For the prices they charge, I'd like to be convinced that the food was worth it. read more

I'd say I'm at about a 3.8 on Alora Social. Walking in we were seated at their large comfortable patio. For me live music is frequently a negative and although I enjoyed their singer, overall I think I would have preferred no music since I like to be able to chat during my meal. Food wise, we enjoyed the complex flavor profile of the pea hummus with fried lavash bread ($16), the buttery side of potatoes ($12), the flavorful chicken wings ($18), as well as the apricot-rose refreshers ($7) and full bodied Sangria ($13). But two of our dishes weren't a hit - the Kumpir ($22) (a stuffed baked potato with sujuk) wasn't that flavorful, and the brussels sprouts ($15) were over fried with too much vinegar. Price wise, you're absolutely paying for the location with everything being about 2-5 dollars above norm and the service was friendly, but not practiced or smooth. Overall, we enjoyed our meal, but at the end of the day we prefer Sipeos in Walnut Creek. read more

Great new addition to City Center Bishop Ranch. I enjoyed most of the dishes we had, the service was attentive throughout, and there was even live music when I visited on a Saturday. Out of everything we tried, the octopus souvlaki, kumpir, and sigara borek were my favorites. I would order these three shareable plates again if I were to visit again. They are also great portions for sharing with 2-3 people. The lamb agnolotti and fattoush salads were a bit underwhelming for me. Although, they are Mediterranean-style eats, we still really enjoyed everything. I made a reservation for 12:15 but arrived by 12:30 (thank you Alora for still taking us in). Thankfully, it wasn't as busy for a Friday lunch so we were seated right away. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with bright colors that really open up the space. They have seating indoors and outdoors. They also have a cafe starting at 8am! I regret not trying anything from their cafe because the menu sounded amazing! They also have a vast selection of wine bottles for purchase. Unless it's for wine tasting? Honestly, I didn't look much into it. I just saw a wall of wine and thought, "wow!" Once we ordered, food came out in a timely matter. Portion sizes are shareable for at least 2 mouths and in my opinion, inexpensive. Definitely quality AND quantity! Each dish lived up to its name and what's expected of it. Everything tasted fresh, tender, very well seasoned/ marinated. We ordered: - Kale Salad + Shrimp (This one's my fave! The kale was crunchy and fresh. I loved the chickpeas and tangerines(?) added in the salad. It was dressed so well that every bite did not disappoint!) - Salmon (the walnut crust is a great idea! It adds so much texture to the tender salmon) - fried burrata (the focaccia was buttery, airy, crisp and a perfect pair with the burrata!) - fried (omg, these were perfect! We loved the airy-ness yet crisp and tenderness from the fried. They're Greek Tavern style fries tossed with lemon, garlic, parsley, oregano. The sauces it came with, 10/10!) - frutti di mare (honestly my least fave, but it was still tasty. A bit spicy but the noodles were tender and you get a good amount of noodles and seafood.) The tender octopus, smokey flavors, accompanied by the potatoes and sausage it was just the perfect pairing. DD ordered the fried burrata bc she loves all things fried AND burrata. Lots of flavors. Chili oil gave it a bit of a kick. Not sure if this dish was supposed to be HOT HOT but it was warm and delicious still spread of grilled foccacia bread. Yummy. This time I saved room for dessert. Something light and sweet to finish the meal. Decided on the soft serve and lemme tell ya; This wasn't your typical, overly sweet, run of the mill ice cream here. Alora Social is a gorgeous space - elegant and airy, though maybe too spacious, which made the atmosphere feel a bit impersonal at times. Service was attentive and friendly, even if not the most knowledgeable about the menu. The mezze sampler was a visual standout, truly beautiful, but the flavors didn't quite match the presentation. Each dish seemed like it was close to great but slightly missed the mark, and overall the food was quite salty. I don't mind small portions, but these were tiny! We're talking maybe two tablespoons, including the hummus, which unfortunately wasn't memorable. The za'atar crackers were flavorful and satisfying, but they were served in an unlined wood caddy that didn't look dishwasher safe... kind of an odd choice for food service and a bit of a red flag. I came in really wanting to love this place, something like Oren's Hummus or Dishdash if you're familiar with those South Bay staples, but it didn't quite land for me. Still, there's enough promise here that I'd consider coming back in a year to see how things have evolved. We recently had a family dinner here and had mixed feelings about our experience. On the positive side, the restaurant has a beautiful ambiance that creates a warm and enjoyable atmosphere. The service from our server was friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations. Several dishes lacked seasoning, and my chicken entrée was served raw. I immediately notified our server, who took the dish back. However, the most disappointing part of the experience was the complete lack of management involvement. The manager never came to our table to apologize, check on my well-being, or attempt to make the situation right. To make matters worse, I was still charged for the raw chicken--even though I was unable to eat my dinner. A restaurant can occasionally make mistakes, but how management responds is what truly leaves a lasting impression. In this case, the lack of concern, accountability, and customer care was extremely disappointing. I was excited to see a new Mediterranean restaurant with great ambience pop up in city center. The outdoor seating area as well as interior decor looks great. I ordered the Brussels sprouts and they were delicious. I also had the muhamara which tasted amazing but with a funny finish. I'm not sure if that's the molasses or date syrup? The service was excellent!! She was very sweet. The I also loves the fried eggplant and the shrimp salad. The fish was cooked well but the couscous was not as good as I expected. The meatballs were my least favorite and the baklava was home made recommend by our server and excellent!! read more

This is a fun restaurant in San Ramon. Tonight we had the fried burrata. The crunchy case and tasty fox is made this appetizer great. We had a special Mary's chicken tonight with veggies and rice pilaf. The chicken was nicely flavored. With the strong flavors on the chicken we wish the rice pilaf and veggies were more bland. All tasted very similar and over the top. A nice flavor contrast adds a lot of intrigue menu choices. Our server was a true gem. She stopped by regularly to check in without being overbearing. Alora is a large, Mediterranean restaurant offering up cuisine inspired by Turkey, Italy, Greece, and Morocco. So yes, expect lots of grilled kebabs, pastas, and innovative bread and dips. It takes over the huge spot previously occupied by Chow. So the restaurant is huge with bright lights, a few indoor trees, huge central bar, and tons of indoor and outdoor seating. We came here for lunch and enjoyed the food and service. They don't offer booster seats for toddlers, and their kids menu just seemed like smaller portions of the adult menu. They also forgot about the free frozen yogurt, so -1 star. Some dishes were great: 1. Zaatar Walnut Crusted Salmon is a winner - perfectly juicy salmon underneath that wonderful crispy crust. Our 4yo took a few bites and actually loved this dish more than his Chicken rice plate. 2. Chicken Wings were also perfectly cooked and juicy, and it was a spectacle to see our server unload all those wings out this gigantic skewer. Thought I was at Fogo De Chao for a moment. Good, not great Dishes: 1. Octopus Souvlaki was tender and food but I agree with other Yelpers portions were a bit small since it was all served on a skewer with potatoes and salad as filler 2. Kid's Menu Item: Lemon Chicken Thighs.. Chicken was moist and juicy, but our son wS not a fan of the rice. Brown basmati rice with some chopped nuts and noodle-like things. For adults this is perfectly fine, but our son likes classic basmati rice with saffron or turmeric like they offer in most Greek/Persian/Afghan places 3. The Pita bread was crispy and pillowy, though most customers around us favored the crispier Lavash bread, which is better for dips. They offer a nice red peppery, candied walnut dip that was spicy and sweet, similar to Mexican Mole. I would definitely consider coming back, but perhaps as solo workweek lunch or maybe a lunch date with the wife. read more

Wow this place infuses flavor for sure with beautiful presentation. I am on a diet where I had to eat very Mediterranean so eggplant. How in the world can eggplant be amazing!? And yes, Alora did. That was the best eggplant I've ever had. (note I am not a fam of veggies). The flavors were amazing and it was nice adding a pita to go with it. I have been watching to try Alora and since I have now I have been back 3 weeks in a row! I always request for Caesar because he is a amazing waiter! He always remembers my daughters food allergies. The kids meal here is a hit! For $15 you get a entree, drink and a ice cream. I recommend adding chicken for a couple dollars more. The ambiance is beautiful and they even have a cute mini market on the side where you can purchase fresh pasta, sauce and even a bottle of champagne. read more
